OMG! Hilda's has the BEST food in town! Try their breakfast burritos, you won't regret it!!

I personally think this place is gross. Just go to linebackers if your looking for good breakfast burritos.

Went there for breakfast last Saturday morning ordered the Ham & cheese omelet. Shortly afterwards I received my breakfast however it wasn't mine should have been someone elses. They asked me if I wanted that breakfast instead. I replied I would like what I ordered. My plate finally came out. My Glass of tea was picked up for a refill never came back. I had to ask for it. We went for breakfast this morning, awful experience from the time we walked in, the girl at the front was very rushing & just told us to go to a particular table, didn't walk us to the table or anything, waitress came to the table & says what do you want. The food came & it was not the best. Charles had to wait forever to get his coffee, he even had to wait longer cause they used all the coffee on other people that came in after us. & this was not a $5.00 meals. Was so excited based on reviews but unfortunately was not a winner for me. I would give the food 2 stars but gave an extra star for the service which was great. The burritos, aren't really "burritos" at least not in my book. Huge flower tortilla folded in half with with filling, in my case, eggs/chorizo. It was just very plain and bland. Needed something else to tie it all together, maybe cheese or a sauce or refried beans... something. Asked if they had a hotter sauce/salsa option, they brought out a green one that was less spicy than the chip one. My son got kids pancake, wasn't very good either. Best fajitas burritos, one of those thick homemade hot tortillas wrapped around peppers onions and fajitas meat.

I initially came here stopping on the way through town. The food was great and I would recommend the barbacoa. So, tender, flavorful without the stringiness in some places. Tortilla chips are thick and just taste more home made than the average restaurant and the tortillas around their burritos is also thick and high in quality. Aside from the food. I left bag here with my laptop, wallet and pretty much everything. I called after they had closed and they still picked up the phone because they thought I might be me. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold. The air conditioning was cranked up so high my wife went outside twice while waiting for our food, just to warm up. We told the waitress and the hostess a couple of times each, but they never did anything about it. The floors were filthy. The other tables sat for almost the entire time with piles of dirty dishes. They were not busy. There were only 6 seated tables other than us. The women's restroom was so dirty and smelly that my wife refused to use it. We were given incredibly salty tortilla chips with hot salsa. The chips are the really thick kind and the salsa was pretty tasty with a good spice level. After a 30 minute! wait we finally got our food.the flour tortillas were made from scratch and were warm, thick and really delicious. Those flour tortillas were the highlight of the experience. I had the chicken mole. The chicken was tender and the mole sauce was pretty good, but nothing amazing. The Mexican rice was moist and delicious. I liked the re fried beans, but my wife thought they tasted odd. She had the steak tacos on corn tortillas which were pretty good other than how greasy the tortillas were. The servers were friendly but between the filth level of the tables, floors and bathrooms, and how uncomfortably cold the room was, I can't say we will ever be back. Very good. From the outside the building doesn't look real fancy but when you walk inside the service is great, and the food is even better. I got the huevos rancheros and David got chili rellenos. Both were cooked to perfection. And the homemade flour tortillas are fantastic. Just as I remember my mama's!!! Stopped here as a back up to our initial breakfast choice which had not opened for the day. My wife and I enjoyed our meals, good portions for the price. Reminded us of my moms meals - good flavor. The tortillas were also good. Very attentive staff, everone serving came by to check on us, something that we have never experienced at any restaurant. If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a joke, everything just doesn't seem organized at all.. I will never go to this place again. You should always check your food before you start eating it too, the last time I ate here I found a long piece of hair cooked into my food. The manager gave me a new plate "free of charge" and I should've gotten my entire meal free. It is absolutely disgusting... DO NOT GO HERE PERIOD. read more

4 stars is for the food only. The attitude and service is definitely 3 stars. I love the breakfast burritos, and that's mainly what I order from here. I have had the beef tacos and enchiladas and they are pretty tasty as well. My complaints are as follows: the service when you dine in is either feast or famine. They are all over you every 5 minutes or non existent at best. The owner never smiles or acts friendly when you are spending you're money there. She acts like you are an inconvenience, especially when they are busy. I am going to have to find somewhere else to get my burrito fix read more

One of my favorite local spots - Love the chorizo and eggs - and the awesome tortilla that comes with - not to mention the great chips and salsa - this is as good as homemade gets. Nothing fancy - nothing over the top - just right all the way around - from the food to the service. Oh the the prices aren't bad either! Been eating here for 13 years now, my dad used to come to school during lunch and bring me and my friends Hilda's--back when it wasn't so strict to bring your kids food. The beef gorditas were always my go to. With their spicy salsa it's amazing. Their chips are thick and homemade. read more

Very very good food and loved that they had a drive thru. We had to spend a few days in a hotel waiting to close on our home and this was close by. Service was good and so was good. They did leave out my hubbys tortillas but I shared some from mine. The parking lot could be bigger and the drive thru turn around could be in working order but it looked like that was being worked on. Main reason to go is for the food not the parking. No ambiance and not at all the sort of place to take a date if you wish to "woo" them, but definitely the sort of place to make a quick drive-thru run or have a casual sit-down with an old friend. Their breakfast burritos are under three bucks and are HUGE. So much better than egg mcmuffins or whatever else fast food breakfast you might pick up. So good in fact that Hubby and I often enjoy them for lunch. My only complaint is the inconcsistent pricing which you often find at small Mexican food establishments for some reason - I ALWAYS order the same thing (potato and egg bfast burrito) and have been charged anywhere between 2.00 and 2.85 depending on the day, the server, the weather, and who knows what else. read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while working in Ennis last weekend. The restaurant was very welcoming and very clean. The servers were extremely pleasant and attentive. I would like to give this five stars because the food was excellent but there was a language barrier when ordering and I don't think fried eggs should be that hard to understand. Passing through on our way to Galveston and decided to stop here for breakfast. After perusing Yelp and Google, we decided to stop here. Don't let the building fool you. The service was 5 star!!!!! From the moment we stepped in until we left, they were super attentive. Homemade chips and salsa!!!! So good. I got huevos rancheros and my hubby, migas. My husband and I were on our way home from the fair so we stopped in. The reviews were good. The service was really awesome. The chips and salsa were better than most places that I've been. That is where my complements stop. Our food took way longer than it should have for 2 migas plates that were on special. They did not ask if we wanted a la mexicana (with peppers and tomatoes) so I just assumed it was. It wasn't. So we finally got our plate of eggs mixed with tortilla (not migas in my opinion). My husband said his refried beans tasted like burnt griddle. So did mine. And my eggs. Now on our way home I have the taste of burnt griddle in my mouth. It honestly rivals cigarette butts. Hilda's is a Mexican food restaurant & there's nothing fancy about the place. It appears to be in an old Dairy Queen building, complete with drive-thru service. But the burrito on the lunch special was very good. They serve breakfast all day, & many locals seemed to be enjoying it very much. This is a hidden gem in Ennis, TX. The service was excellent. We couldn't drink our coffee fast enough. We each had a breakfast burrito and the tortillas were the best tortillas we've ever had.
