The restaurants vibe and decor are honestly really nice!! But my personal opinion the food lacks flavor. My torta didn't taste like al pastor it tasted like some other meat and there was so much fat "meat" in it I had to spit so much meat out. The green salsa it came with was good and really spicy. My friend's plate with the Gizo and beans and rice was okay she said she didn't understand why there was just one random tomato with the plate. Overall I wouldn't go here for authentic Mexican food. read more

In the heart of historic downtown Ennis, Texas--on the corner of W. Ennis and S. McKinney--sits an awesome Mexican restaurant. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with the look and feel of true authenticity. There are two dining areas, and we chose the street-side patio. Here's something I've never seen before: they have a section on the menu specifically labeled "Tex-Mex"! Our waiter, Enrique from Ecuador, was amazing. The chips were fresh, hot, and crispy. They brought out two salsas--one was your classic red, and the other was a warm salsa that was absolutely divine. We finished both! We ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and the Camarones Momia (bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapeños). Hands down, the most flavorful I've ever had. Everything was piping hot and delicious. We ended with a flan for dessert that easily made our Top 5 list. Comfortable, delicious, and amazing. And get this--it's only 1.2 miles from our home. That could be a problem!! Highly recommended! read more

I have nothing but good things to say from my visit. I did take a look at some reviews before coming but i was going to eat here regardless. Sometimes you cant let the reviews dictate your experience!! It is clear that El Mexicano has been around for quite some time and i think that says enough. They have certainly made some changes throughout the years, they no longer have an open outdoor patio like they use to but instead it's an enclosed patio now so you are still kind of outside but not really. That is also where the entrance is, can be misleading a little bit because it doesn't quite look like the front door. The menu is extensive with several pages of drinks and food. The prices were great, the service was great and the food was fantastic! My tacos tasted like they were straight out of the taqueria and were packed with so much flavor. The drinks were made to perfection. read more

We moved from a metropolitan area back to a small rural West Central Louisiana town and haven't had good Mexican since. We wanted to try some as soon as we hit town. El Mexicano Grille was it and the visit was terrific! We ordered off the lunch menu. She had the Beef Enchiladas (3 enchiladas topped with Mexican gravy & melted cheese) with a Sangria Margarita and I had the Grilled Chicken lunch plate (chicken with rice, beans, and flour tortillas) with a Paloma. The server was prompt & friendly. We were seated out on the patio and it was a gorgeous noontime. The food was out after a reasonable wait we spent enjoying the drinks and the fresh and crispy tortilla chips and two cooked salsas: one spicy and one not. Both orders were fresh, hot, and delicious. The enchilada tortillas were fork tender and the meat was not over seasoned. The grilled chicken was cut in strips and well-seasoned as were the peppers and onions. Even the beans and rice were great, not over seasoned but tasty complements to the entree. We plan to return to town next year and this is definitely a spot we'll revisit! read more

This is a very Tex-Mex place, so if you're into that, you will probably enjoy it. Got the poblano fajitas, super cheesy and oniony, honestly never had anything like it before. Pretty tasty! Their waitresses do a good job and the indoor patio has a unique vibe. If your looking for your Tex-Mex fix and some chips and salsa, this is not a bad option. I'd give it a 3.8 read more

The food and the service was great with a fun atmosphere. They have the best coffee in town too.

Went here for late lunch after doing business at a title office close by. I ordered the lunch special and my wife the tampiquano plate a margarita and a couple of beers salsa chips good the food was great service excellent and the price decent will return again. Note:I see a lot of picture posts on yelp with negative experiences...but they all look like old dates, Give it a try now might be better. read more

Food is just the worst you can imagine, zero freshness and the food as a whole has a weird sweet taste to it as if someone confused sugar for salt! The drinks are all from powdered mixtures and not mixed well enough to dissolve all the mixtures. The bathrooms are a science experiment gone wrong. The chips are stale and the dipping sauce tastes metallic. The cheese may possibly be cheese whizz or plastic cheese. The fajitas chicken and beef are tough and tasteless with freezer burns. We've eaten there off and on and have gotten sick every time. The low life Mexican staff mostly undocumented attacks you if you complain on line about the restaurant along with the undocumented immigrants in the community. Just don't eat at the place, five minutes down the road there's a great place, good food and great service. Ambiance is like a crowded dirty subway car. read more

Came in on Saturday for a quick bite and cold drinks after the market. The patio is large, covered, multiple tv's, and air conditioned which is great to beat the heat. We tried the Cazuelita (Saturday special) that had refreshing tequila, grapefruit, and fresh fruit, with a spicy straw and tajin rim. We enjoyed the chips and salsa and the crispy tacos. The shells tasted fresh with loads of meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. The ladies were friendly, quick, and accommodating. We will be back! read more

Both salsas were flavorful, and while the chips were a bit on the thicker side, they were still enjoyable. I ordered the #4 El Tampiqueño, which comes with a cheese enchilada, steak, beans, and rice. The steak was excellent--tender and full of flavor. The cheese enchilada with gravy was just okay, and the beans and rice were pretty average, nothing special. My husband had the taco and enchilada plate, which he said reminded him of a TV dinner. It seems the quality can really vary depending on what you order. I have a feeling their fajitas are probably amazing, and I plan to try them next time! read more

I got food poisoning from eating here so I highly recommend not to bring anybody here especially children! Service was also poor, took 15-20mins for someone to take my order and over an 1hr to receive my food sadly. The ambience was very nice but I felt like it was all a disguise after what I had experienced. Definitely won't be a returning customer and I hope it shed light for the ones who were interested on dining here! read more

What a disappointment for a Mexican restaurant! Came here really hungry would think anything would taste good as hungry as I was. The most bland chicken and beef fajitas I've ever had Queso Flameado had hardly any cheese (queso)! Way overpriced for mediocre food A shame cause their location is great! read more

We went to Ennius and so far is a good town.. however, the Tex- Mex is a slow on the draw. We had taco salad and the lettuce was soggy, the chicken was tough.. I only took 1/2of the salad.. it was pitiful.. I could had gotten a better salad on the corn field.. I would say 1.5 but the water was pretty good.. read more

I would give no stars if I could. They are all RUDE! They just stare at you as you stand there and wait for your to go order. At least 5 servers past me standing in the line for my to go order, not one said hello, we will be right with you. NOTHING. Will never be back! Haven't even ate the food. Not even the lady over the phone could speak English. Maybe that's where I fucked up to begin with read more

Nice family place to eat. Our waiter was pleasant and the food came out quickly. Good price and generous portions.

First time there..... No Hostess.....sat at a table and waited and waited and waited. Finally I had to call someone over for menus and water....Ordered a Pinot Gregio... the waitress couldn't speak English and didn't know what I was ordering... I had to settle for a white Zinfandel... ( to sweet)... 20 minutes later we get our drinks... Had to ask to order our food... Enchiladas looked and tasted 3 days old. Cold and greasy..... they never ask if we needed anything or more drinks... Terrible Service and food and drinks...... We will NEVER go there again... it was AWEFUL!!!!! read more

The house margarita saved this location. It, excuse me...they were very good and hit the spot! Service was subpar. Chips were stale. Warm sauce was excellent! My taco salad was in fact a taco shell full of everything but salad. Bad. Great patio!. Wife loved her Chili Relleno. Did I mention the house margaritas were very good? Another shot they will get. read more

The food was great, hot, fresh, and served quickly by an awesome waitress named Nelly. She had a wonderful spirit and beautiful personality. My wife and I enjoyed her so much because she was very attentive. I had the fajitas with Chicken,Beef and Sausage. My wife had the tamale dinner. I also had a pineapple jalapeño margarita which was very tasty. There was a Mariachi band playing that night too! We look forward to returning soon. read more

TLDR-Wife brought me here because she felt like Mexican food. Something different than our usual places to eat. First off ill start with the atmosphere we ate in the covered patio, to no fault of theirs, the traffic was littered with juveniles that revved their engines at that intersection, almost seemed on purpose for attention. Anyhow i feel like the music was out of wack because Mexican music was barely present. More regeaton, bachata, etc than mexican but whatevs, no biggie shake it up a little i get it. Now lets get to it. Service. Great. Server was attentive, drinks topped. Great. However. Food- looks a lot better on the menu. And this is based on what i ordered. But fajitas. Boy... these were not it. Not even close. I know its common for fajitas to be precooked, and weighed. Order comes in heat up the skillet, slather the oil/butter whatever, and let them sizzle a bit so they come out smokey and sizzling. Well they didn't cone out. Barely an audible sizzle. Some of the veggies were still cold. The meat was over cooked and under seasoned. Only the shrimp was cooked right but also no flavor. To their credit they have a nice looking selection of alcoholic drinks. Me and the wife had mangonadaritas. And i had a ceviche tostada appetizer. Taste and presentation on that alone 8/10. I said nothing because i most likely won't be back since i like my mexican food a little more authetic, but looks like a good hangout spot w the family with variety. read more

I love the environment. Just less than 30 miles from the hustle and bustle of Dallas, the environment is laid back. The servers are hospitable. I felt welcomed the moment my family and I walked though the door. The food was pretty decent. The salsa and margaritas are fresh. Definitely will add this to my place to frequent! The only drawback is the length of time it took me to get my check. read more

what they call Queso Flameado looked like dog food. Hardy any cheese. enchiladas were bad: guacamole had no taste; fajita was bland. I live in south Texas where the Tex Mex is to die for. This was undoubtedly the worse I have ever had. read more

Came to eat with my friends after disregarding some reviews we saw online and the food was okay but we had a horrible experience because my friends husband choked on a bone that was in his food so hard he had to go to the restroom and vomit it out because it was stuck in his throat. My friend asked to speak to a manager about what happened and after waiting a long time no manager ever came to our table and they still dropped off the check like nothing happened. Server also didn't come check on us after the food was dropped off while we needed more refills. Do not recommend this restaurant at all. read more

We took my mom to eat here for her birthday after hearing how good the food was. I won't say it's the worst I've had because once I had a torta from a booth at a state fair that was probably the absolute worst I've had. Anyway, I had the La Mexicana plate. It was a bland grease fest and the food was cold. We chose to sit inside so they seated us way in the back, almost to Corsicana. Maybe that's why we hardly saw our waitress and received cold food. The iced tea was great and the chips and salsa were good, thus the 2 stars. The food was both overpriced and underwhelming. The service was slow. We won't be going back. read more

I had the mini taco plate with Al Pastor!!! Incredible food!!! Loved every bite, a lot of food for your money. Grilled potatoes, onions and pepper were perfect! This place was horrible.Took forever to get somebody to get our drink order, another hour to get cold food and when we told our waiter the rice tasted like cinnamon he looked at us like we were crazy. When I asked for a manager he apologized said his cook confused cumin with cinnamon. I told him if I was the cook or manager I would not serve that, he said he was sorry nothing else basically did not care. my bill was $198 they just lost a customer. this place is busy now but I hope with this type of incident they will not be for long. read more

We had such a bad experience at rooftop101(across the street)so we went to Mexicano grille . They sat us down promptly and food came out super fast and piping hot! I had a toddler that was fussy and hungry. The waiter put my daughters order in first and she was eating in less than 5 min after arriving. I had the mocajete and it was the bomb! Great food, great atmosphere. We went for an after church late lunch. Of course we didn't know it was The Bluebonnet Festival - so it was quite busy. You get in line at the entrance to the patio. Although at times it looked like it would take forever, it really wasn't. The patio being full we were seated inside near the bar. Holy cow - it winds around a rather large indoor dining area! We had a new waiter who was still working on his spoken English. I volunteer as an ESL teacher so I wanted to help as kindly as possible. Having waited tables in college I suppose I can be critical of things that make ordering or getting things in a proper sequence difficult. Our waiter was very conscientious and wanted very much to do well. The ONLY reason we I gave a 4 and not a five is because one of our items was not correct (fajitas vs. fajita quesadillas). To be honest, as an English speaker the menus names could easily be misinterpreted. As a result we paid a bit more - but it was an acceptable issue regarding the situation. Mixed fajitas were awesome! The frozen margarita and the margarita on ice we're also very good. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Good food great place great place for after church staff are nice pretty good service nice place

My brothers and mom stoped here on our way to Dallas and we were super hungry like has not eat breakfast hungry. So we stopped the waitress was super nice! She let us sit were we want , always had a smile on , and she was very patient. And all drinks came out super quickly. Me- I got the taco salad and I was blown away. The steak was good and well cooked , guacamole was good , everything was nice and neat and the jalapeño finished the dish. But I think there is a little to much sour cream. All around really good. Brother one- "every thing is good. The rice the taco and the drink " Brother 2- "The quesadilla was great and the sprite was really good" Mom - "service was quick, great and outdoor patio made the lunch. My fajita lunch special had no peppers, onions or fixings- just chicken w tortilla." read more
