Tonkotsu Ramen

I ordered Japanese Tonkotsu Ramen for take out. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes on the phone. It ended up to be 45 minutes. I sat there waiting for 25 minutes. This is what I got, there is basically nothing in the broth, just a piece of onion, a piece of red pepper, a couple pieces of bean sprouts. Egg is over cooked. It is nothing like authentic Tonkotsu Ramen. It is extremely salty. I added a lot of water and some mushrooms in there to fix it a bit. And it is expensive. Totally not worth the time and money.

Very friendly staff; we changed the time of our booking multiple times and they cooperated really well. It has a very nice and quiet ambience with great customer service. We started with Shrimp Tempura and Sashimi Salad. Followed with Dynamite Roll, Green Dragon Roll, Red Dragon Roll, Philly Roll and Crunch Spicy Salmon Roll. They were all fresh and tasted great. I definitely suggest trying the Sashimi Salad.

Nice place and good food, definitely visiting again if I am in the Windsor and Detroit area~

Mango paradise Maki roll 10/10

Went here 3 times, for a special occasion dine-in and twice for take out. The Maki rolls are to die for, definitely best Windsor has and the quality is consistent every time. Appetizers like tuna and beef tartaraki (is that how it's called?) Were great too. It is on the higher price side and there's a chance of a long wait for the food, but fully worth it. The specialty fusion rolls are great, but pricy . They have 2 cheaper combos as well, Maki dinner and deluxe Maki dinner. Even these "generic" or simple rolls are better than any specialty high end rolls elsewhere. The rolls are big and have excellent balance of fish, sauce, veggies and rice . You will pay around the same price as you would at an AYCE but get far better value and a memorable meal.

Hands down, the sushi place! Everyone I have introduced this place too always comes back. To start off, the owners are amazing and take such great care of their customers. The Sushi is always fresh and amazing. My favourite rolls Double double Crispy Crunch Cali Oceans rolls (not on the menu - assortment of raw fish wrapped in cucumber) Lobster roll (I forgot the exact name) The tempura appetizer is amazing, as well as the house salad and the meal soup.

Great location, decent food, poor snobby service.. if the rating was just for food, would have given this 4 stars. Service was horrendous to a point of spoiling our mood - we went together as a family, reserved ahead.. all went well till we landed at the hands of a snobby server who seemed disinterested.. food came late and she never ever bothered to ask once if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything.. we felt isolated and were left wondering if they truly cared.. only towards the end another employee took good care which helped a bit.. Coming to the food, it was fairly decent - well presented and flavourful- we ordered quite a bit and the starters came through first and then the main course came through one by one. Personally, I would not go back to this place - pretty disappointed!

Honestly maybe my favourite restaurant in Windsor? Really enjoy the sushi, Korean dishes and overall house-like ambiance here. Service is always friendly and I love the convenience of the location, just minutes from downtown and steps away from the riverside. I love bringing my parents here to try new sushi plates, really great variety and hasn't disappointed yet. Sundubu-jjigae tofu soup is also pretty hard to come by sometimes, but happy to know they serve it here.

Looks like they changed owners! Came here and the menu was completely different. Had a lot more korean dishes. Was excited to try the different things on the menu. We ordered 2 rolls, which i can't remember the name of now. One of them had mango in it, which adds a nice sweetness to the roll. the rolls were nicely presented, and very packed. The other roll had seared white tuna on top. The seared part is what makes the unique taste of the roll. Nice smokeyness, with the natural fat of the fish coming out! However just like before, it takes a long time for things to come from the sushi bar. I don't know if it's just because they have 1 sushi chef, but it's always a waiting game, thought it would be better with the new owners. Overall, a great little gem in a small town! Definitely will come back again and try the different items!

Hikari is a rare gem in Windsor in terms of Japanese cuisine. I'd say it is by far the best I know in town if you are up for authentic Japanese food. Thumbs up!!!

Hikari is a Japanese restaurant located in Downtown Windsor. It's located inside a house. They offer seating at a sushi bar, dining room, and a couple of tatami rooms. There are stairs, so it's not accessible. Most of the people I've spoken to in Windsor regard Hikari as the #2 sushi restaurant, behind Sushi California. Personally, I prefer Hikari for dinner. Both restaurants offer the typical, sushi with a little bit of traditional Japanese food restaurants. They both offer traditional decor, updated with modern necessities. Both also offer tatami style seating. I've had great service at both restaurants. Hikari offers a few "pan Asian/Chinese" dishes for those who not necessarily ready for Japanese food. Both restaurants offer vegetarian options, and with a little explanation, even vegan food. The only reason I hold any preference to Hikari over Sushi California is the price. I find the quality of both restaurants is comparable to what I've eaten in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal. However, the price for these dishes is anywhere from 20%-100% more expensive. Hikari offers a VERY reasonably priced lunch menu, starting at $5.99. I've also eaten here for dinner on a few occasions. My man and I ate a ton for around $35.00, including soda, tax and tip. Not bad for a Saturday night dinner!

Just ok. Super location and space. Their service is a little pretentious, but they get the job done. Their prices aren't too bad, particularly with a Groupon, which they offer frequently. The fish isn't the best in town, and it certainly isn't the worst. It's fine. You won't write home about it. You'll safely arrive home and have enjoyed a decent night out at a cute place.

Consistently fantastic quality food and outstanding service. Always find great options like the Black Dragon roll, which was amazing. Why can't the rest of Windsor's sushi restaurants be like this one?

I think most of my paycheque is spent at Hikari :') My most recent order was the Crunch roll and Godzilla roll and they were fantastic! My favourite picks are as follows: Tuna salsa (so much love for this) Godzilla roll (10pcs of bliss) House Special Nigiri lunch special (for the price, yes pls) Tempura udon (their soup is bomb af) Sushi dinner Beef tataki And service is phenomenal!

This was my first time, trying the yucky udon miso butter noodles, and it will not be my last. The noodles were so buttery and delicious and hot. You can add any kind of egg or any other toppings any kind of meat and it just increases the deliciousness of the bowl. The chicken karaage is so well seasoned and goes perfectly with all the items in the bowl. And if you don't eat chicken, the tofu karaage is just as crispy and delicious as the chicken and I do not love tofu. It was slower than I would have liked when is not as busy, but our waitress was kind and were very supportive in our food decisions. It can be very intimate inside of the place when it's busy they do have an outside patio, but it gets very hot in the summer.

I got the robata sampler: some notable standouts were: -the triggerfish jerky: thin cut and with a hint of sweetness, the fish flavor was delicate and tasty. It reminded me a little of the dried cuttlefish I ate growing up in Hawaii, but a much more refined version - chicken meatball: this was juicy, hearty, and had great flavor. The teriyaki sauce was flavorful without being too sweet - shrimps: these were expertly grilled. They were tender inside, and had a nice hint of charcoal flavor from the grilling - pork belly: this was a great cut of meat. Very decadent and rich, with lots of umami from marinating before grilling We also got some appetizers that were quite serviceable. Overall I'd give this place a 4.5 stars if I could.

The staff are fantastic, friendly, and very skilled at their jobs. Beverages were refilled, we were checked in with, and felt taken care of. The real star of the show was the food. I came with two of my sons, and we all really enjoyed our ramen bowls. I had the pork belly tonkatsu, one of my sons had the catfish tonkatsu, and the other had the red curry. I absolutely recommend this restaurant, and will be returning very soon!

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
