What made it worse is that both times, the groups next to us were visibly drunk. There didn't seem to be any staff intervention to manage the situation or maintain a respectful atmosphere. Another frustrating point was the check-in process. I brought my own Brunswick bowling shoes, but I was still told I had to rent a pair anyway. The employee even said I could "just do whatever with them," which honestly makes no sense and feels like an unnecessary charge. Policies like that don't feel customer-friendly. To be fair, Big Al's is a fun place overall. The arcade games and general hangout vibe are great, and I'd still come back for that. But the bowling experience itself just isn't worth it based on what I've experienced.
