Night walk in DTLA
Mark M.

Possibly one of the most fun entertainment social centers in SoCal. Restaurants, bars, clubs, bowling, hotels ... and not to mention home The Lakers and clippers. What's not to miss during the pandemic.

Gohar K.

Overall a great place to spend some time at. Lots of restaurants to chose from. One of our most favorite is the Wolfgang Puck specially in the winter time when they set up the big Christmas tree and the ice rink .. it's right in for of it. Sitting outside watching people skate is just magical with all the Christmas decor all around. This review is long overdue but decided to finish it today. Kobe and Giannas memorial was also set up here last January and it was the saddest hour we spent there. So tragic and heartbreaking. We miss you Kobe and Gianna. RIP to everyone in the tragic accident that took place that horrible day. Summer night at LA Live gets really busy. There is always something going on at LA Live. Great tourist place as well. We always take our family when they come to visit.

It's been a long time since I've been to LA Live. I was just recently there for a Lakers game and there was a bunch of stuff set up out front to rally some excitement from the passersby. We decided to take some photos, shoot mini basketballs for Lakers swag, and get a signed photo with some Lakers girls. We even went to the Yard House, Fixins, and Lucky Strike. There is a lot to see and do here if you haven't been. But maybe you have like me, and still want to take in the excitement. While parking can be a pain, you can find some nearby lots for a discounted price. I prepaid and saved myself some money. Do yourself a favor and wear comfortable shoes while walking around LA Live.

The confines of LA Live turn any visit to this area into fun, lots to see and do. A favorite aspect is all the restaurants. I finally decided to write this review after enjoying the Super Bowl fan events. See a movie, a concert, or a sporting event at Crypto arena all on the same day. There's a reason it's called LA live there's almost always something fun and exciting going on. Once you're there you may not want to leave. And that's OK because they have a JW Marriott Ritz-Carlton right in the complex. Parking is not cheap, but I recommend finding something offsite, there is plenty of independent lots on the perimeter which can range from $20 - $50.

Yes. It is a tourist spot. Yes. It can get crazy crowded. And absolutely YES. It is a place worth checking out! Plenty of restaurants to choose from should one desire food (small and big bites alike) and more importantly, happy hour! (Check out their website for participants and menus.) Hubbers and I came through recently to meet with a colleague and take advantage of the Yardhouse's HH specials. Since it was the season, they have laid out the beautiful Christmas tree right in the middle of the ever so popular ice rink. This place is always poppin'. Even without special events, there's something to do - you can check out a museum (Grammy), catch a movie (Regal Cinema) AND go bowling (Lucky Strike) all within walking distance of each other ALL WITHIN ONE DAY. And then some! Underground parking is VERY pricey ($20 for a couple hours' run) but you're paying for convenience. If you don't mind the walk, there are many parking lots surrounding the entire area who charge less. I usually find myself here find a spot to kill time and let both vehicle and foot traffic die down post-game from the Staples. I also find myself here whenever the role of "tour guide" for out-of-towner family and friends come through. TIP: Take time to go through their website for everything LA Live! It'll come in handy! Definitely a place to checkout for both Angelenos and non-Angelenos alike.

It's been awhile since I've been here but came for a concert this past weekend. Lots of eateries and the concert venues all within close proximity to each other:the Novo, the Microsoft theater, and Staples Center. We didn't eat here because I wasn't sure about the timing, but I have a feel for it now. Yardhouse is here, as well as Conga Room, Wolfgang Pucks and more. Prepaid parking made it easy -we parked right across the street. Easy in, easy out.

Doreen M.

Always such a fun area to hang out in. I come here mostly for the staple center either for a game or a concert. I've gone to the Grammy Museum a couple of times. And I've tried a handful of restaurants here. It's nice because they have different price points for all the places you can eat. I wish there was more to do in terms of shopping or seeing things, besides just eating.

Chain zone
Brad W.

A mix of national chains and some local concepts including Shaquille's and a local Mexican restaurant. Most places on a recent early Friday night were quite packed and we could not find seats. No sporting events were scheduled that night. Also, it seems the prices are quite inflated in this area with most entrees hovering above the $20 range. This is definitely a tourist trap area, so there are plenty of normal priced places just outside of the LA Live perimeter if you desire. Ice skating rink was impressive though and a nice tree as well.

With restaurant owner Kevin Johnson!
Stacia W.

Good times. Great food at Fixin's --Kevin Johnson's (former NBA star) soul food restaurant. Got to meet him and he was a really nice guy! The place was packed but it was a great vibe because a concert was happening across the way at LA Live so I assume most people were eating there before attending the concert. But Mr. Johnson literally got us a table himself so we didn't have to wait! As a girl from the south I had to try the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were delicious!

Ice skating

So happy the ice skating is back at LA Live. Really puts you in the Christmas spirit . I only wish they didn't pack the rink with so many ppl. I took this photo in the very beginning so it's not bad here at all pretty empty

LA Live is located across the street from the Staples Center. It is a fun, upbeat place to visit before or after an event at Staples, or just for the heck of it. There are many dining and entertainment options, ranging from high end to casual. Food-wise, I have been to Katsuya (very good), Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill (very good), and the Rock'N Fish (good). I have also attended events at the Microsoft Theater (formerly known as Nokia) and The Novo (previously Club Nokia). There are plenty of parking options but it can get expensive. Some places charge $30. That said, some restaurants and venues do validate. It is best to contact them and ask before you go as policies change often. All in all, LA Live is a well-maintained and pleasant entertainment complex. I will definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area!

Jingleball preparty performance

Ended up coming here on Jingleball's weekend, and boy were there A LOT of people. Despite the crowd, I really liked the beautiful Christmas tree in the center of the Holiday Ice rink. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=38hovBMcoArGH4fM-SFXwg&userid=a7K8yNKMI_-BnUgIOepLaA Christmas season...There's a Holiday Ice Rink - http://lalive.com/events/festival-detail/222 - check it out There are restaurants all around L.A live, events, concerts, big sport games, lounges, and much more if you explore! Would I suggest this place as a date place? I might :) BIG note: Parking is crazy over the weekend. As for weekdays, not as much. Weekday date recommendation! That is, if you don't care :P

All lit up!!!!
Mike B.

First time here for me and the wife last weekend. Pretty cool place conveniently located across from Staples center with a nice selection of eating / drinking establishments. Place seemed pretty festive but then again, there was an upcoming game AND the weather was absolutely bitchin'... Nicely lit in the evening hours and home to the Nokia Theater as well. I'm not well versed on the parking costs, (as we had a parking pass for the Laker game), but if I had to guess on the cost, I'd guess it wasn't cheap. Definitely want to try again tho and see if it really is as cool as it seemed. But... If they are striving for a "Grove" like experience / atmosphere, they have a long, long way to go...

Any free parking relatively close to the venue?

I didn't see any free parking when I went last Friday for the Tupac museum experience, but I did see some parking meters which may be cheaper than parking in the parking garage.

The live music also made everything so special. The performers were absolutely incredible. It was a little bit crowded in there, which would be fine if people didn't keep crowding standing around where they shouldn't be. Last call for drinks was 1:30am, and I think last call for food was 12:30am. At 1:30 we were told to move away from the games area and go upstairs. Everythung was great until I heard a bartender say that me and my friend were overstaying our welcome ... it was barely 1:45 and we were finishing our drinks. That was rude... After that we were told we still had 5mins. I guess we'll leave early next time. It was just rude to see bartenders point at us and loudly say we weren't welcome ...

Food wasn't too expensive with all things considered. I paid $15 for a chicken tenders meal that was delicious and filling. They gave me more information on how while they have their own rules and regulations, each event also have their own set of rules and regulations which makes sense. Spencer a General Manager was very concerned about my experience and validated my experience. Spencer was professional, listened to my experience, but mostly gave me a plan of action of what they can do moving forward. I appreciate the management there. Also I was not paid nor did I take a compensation of any type for this update. It was very upsetting that I got kicked out of the venue because I had a medical emergency and was trying to get out of the crowd. I had to go over the front of the barricade as that was the fastest way for me to get out. I was not told where medical was located only that because I went over the barricade I needed to leave, even though I had a vip access. I was 100% sober, I was non combative, I was very polite. I was there with my wife which is why I got vip access so she didn't have to be down in the crowd. Despite telling the security, calmly, that I had an emergency and I was there with my wife I was still escorted out. But not out entirely as he just showed me the door and the security walked away, I could have easily just went back in. This is also something that is concerning because if I were a combative person, for them not to walk me out fully is concerning as a person opposite of my demeanor could have easily gone back in. I think two things should happen Explicitly put signs that state "if you go over a barricade regardless of emergency or medical emergency you will be escorted out." If people are being escorted out, they need to be monitored and ensure they actually get escorted out. If a person says they have a medical emergency the staff should be conscious of that and escort the person to medical not out of the venue. I had a medical emergency last night and was kicked out vs escorted to medical. I'm glad that I'm okay, it's just unsatisfactory the way I was treated when I explicitly said I had an emergency.

This really cool intimate venue has been around for a while as the spot where old and new bands from Band of Skulls, Unwritten Law, NIIS, SCOWL, Joker's Hand and Destroy Boys (right before they got bigger, opening for Blink 182 on tour!) have all played at. The sounds, acoustics and everything are all dynamically set up by their amazing crew of technicians and staff. Custodians are on their toes keeping things clean around here as well. Security around here are very fair. They don't trip about moshers and stage divers as long as they keep things peaceful and fun! Huge plus! Parking can be a toss up, but that's normal and the price around here isn't bad. Lines usually wrap around the building and into the residential area nearby with peoples' houses. It's pretty damn funny, IMO. I was able to see NIIS, Scowl , Destroy Boys and other awesome bands here . Super chill, fun venue! Parking is street or there is a lot across which I think charges way too much - 30 bucks for the evening in this area is high way robbery. That's what you pay down by the crypto center and there is way more to do down there. But that's not the venues fault of course.

Second, the beer was way over priced. You're looking at $17 + tip for a decent sized beer, or paying $11 for a cheap can. That's like Coachella pricing, absolute robbery. Third and probably the biggest turn off, was that the second the last band played their last note, the bar immediately closed and started kicking people out. No final call, no grace period to hang out, just gtfo. Zero hospitality. Overall, I liked the space itself, especially the upstairs lounge / balcony area, but the cons just far outweigh the pros with this place. Logistically terrible location and zero hospitality to speak of paired with overly expensive drinks and not particularly friendly staff did not make me want to come back here.
