The receptionist Lily handled my call, understood my concern, and was able to accomodate a same day for the last time slot of the day! As a new patient she made sure to follow up on the phone with my concerns, insurance, and intake forms to make sure the process is speedy and convenient. Dr. Nguyen seated me almost immediately after checking in, and understood my concerns. The checkup process was routine and as soon as the doctor discovered retinal tearing, she let me know and immediately attempted to call numerous ophthalmologists to see if they can conveniently see me while I was dilated despite it being 5PM in the afternoon. I truly appreciate the efforts from Doctor Nguyen in making sure I get the optimal treatment for my visit. I'm also appreciative of the Doctor and receptionist both for staying late and taking extra care and effort for my appt without me having to ask. The following day the Doctor even left a voicemail to follow up and let me know that they've retroactively inquired with my insurance and found valid vision coverage, offering to refund a 200 dollar visit to a simple $20 copay, again, without asking! I can't ask for better service and treatment from both the office and optometric staff. If they hadn't taken me in that day, I wouldn't have known to seek a next-day ophthalmologist and gotten immediate surgical care, which could've lead to more serious issues if I hadn't!

I wasted a lot of time for multiple calls and emails with them and the insurance company to find out the order status, get a refund, and restore my coverage to go elsewhere. The doctor was hard to reach and never apologized. Also she is always looking for new ways to scare you into costly and unnecessary exams and treatments. I suggest going to another Optometrist who focuses on patient care over profit. Update in response to business: Notice there is no apology in the owner response. The owner uses the glasses customization (what should be a basic standard of patient care) as an excuse for their poor choice of a lab that made a mistake and delayed the order. "Their best" to keep me informed was me having to call and email several times to follow up. They did NOT offer a full refund. They offered a partial refund for just the glasses, I had to negotiate for the exam cost which I had to retake with another doctor, and that does not make up for the wasted time and inconvenience. As for treatment recommendations, they start with what will be more profitable to them. This place does not accept accountability for their actions.

Meanwhile, my other healthcare providers were successfully billing the same insurance without any issues. When I finally got through, they scheduled my appointment another month out. During that time, I decided to switch plans. Before doing so, I specifically confirmed that this office accepted both plans. My existing coverage was guaranteed through October 31, with the new plan beginning November 1. Despite my appointment being scheduled for October 29, they refused to see me because my insurance would be changing three days later. I even contacted my provider directly and confirmed that my coverage was active and there was no insurance-related reason to deny the appointment. Nevertheless, the office insisted I pay out of pocket to be seen. This is completely unprofessional and raises serious concerns about compliance with California's insurance regulations. Under California Code of Regulations, Title 22, § 51002, providers are generally prohibited from demanding payment from beneficiaries for covered services. It's unacceptable that after doing everything possible to verify my coverage and avoid disruptions, I was still denied an appointment unless I agreed to pay cash for services covered by my insurance

They will tell you the only way is to put you on their "cancellation waitlist" which they don't know how many months out. They are NOT an honest trustworthy business, period. I called my doctor's clinic only to find that the wait to see an ophthalmologist in my medical network (UCSF) take weeks if not months. My only option, I was told, was to go to a walk-in clinic or the emergency room, in either case I would be waiting hours for an on-call ophthalmologist to show up. Then it occurred to me to see my optometrist - Dr. Carrie Lee. She saw me that very same day (a Friday), and I can only imagine she had to really juggle her schedule to squeeze me in. In the event, she was able to identify the problem. It was bad, but not any of the terrible options suggested by Dr. Google. Later I emailed her (on a holiday) with a question about the application of a treatment for an unrelated issue. To my surprise she responded with the answer in about 5 minutes (!). Dr. Lee is a treasure who really cares about her patients.

I was looking for an optometrist for my young kids and based on the convenient location and…read morepositive reviews of this practice, I chose this one. During what should have been a routine eye exam for my 6-year-old son, Dr. Lee accidentally poked him in the eye while putting eyedrops in his eyes. This wasn't a minor incident - my son ended up in the emergency room with a swollen eye and a bacterial infection that required medical treatment. I should have trusted my instincts when we first arrived - the office had a noticeable stench and didn't appear clean. Given that my son developed a bacterial infection from this incident, I now suspect the unsanitary conditions played a role in what happened to him. Eye exams for young children require extra care and attention, and this level of carelessness is completely unacceptable. When I requested that he be seen to assess the damage, her office told me it would cost $158 for the appointment because it wasn't covered by insurance. What makes this even worse is that while she acknowledged poking him in the eye when it happened (which is how I knew it even happened), she later denied it ever occurred. This lack of accountability and honesty is deeply concerning from a healthcare professional. As a parent, I trusted this professional with my child's vision and safety, and that trust was violated. The pain and distress this caused my son, not to mention the additional medical expenses and trauma of spending all day in the ER, could have been avoided with proper care and technique. I cannot recommend this practice to anyone, especially families with young children. When it comes to your child's eye health, you need someone who will be gentle, careful, and competent. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.
