I'm so excited for HRV because they just moved to a new, bigger space on Carson Street! More clothes selection, yay! This has always been a fave of mine because it's not only well curated, but I can usually always come out of there with at least one fantastic find. While the shop leans towards the 70's-90's, I'm more of a 50's-60's gal and am always so excited to pick out that one perfect dress that I"m in love with. I honestly think some of my fave vintage pieces have come from here... and I really do lend that to the fact that Kate is such a good vintage buyer. It's a nice little vintage shop in the heart of the South Side. The owner was really nice. No matter how good or bad a store is merchandise wise, you have to give props for good employees. The store was small but had some interesting items inside. I thought the men's selection was sort of lacking. I guess women tend to thrift or shop for "vintage" gear more than men? Either way, what they had was solid but there just wasn't much to choose from. It's definitely a place for a girl who loves vintage clothing. A guy? Not so much. The South Side of Pittsburgh is home to several eccentric shops including a handful of ones that sell vintage clothing. Highway Robbery has been the one that left me feeling like I hit the jackpot after almost every visit, so without a doubt I'd say it's my favorite in the area. If you are in need of an eye-catching, conversation-starting vintage piece, please go here. Make sure you have a little bit of spending money as items aren't the cheapest here, but they aren't necessarily overpriced. My boyfriend and I are avid thrifters, and sometimes I feel like you can get lucky at a thrift store and find a good item for a cheaper price, but you do have to do some picking to find the real prize pieces when you shop at thrift stores. Highway Robbery eliminates having to do some of that picking, but you'll pay for it. Some of my favorite finds from this store include a vintage Pittsburgh Penguins sweater with a satin logo from the 90s stitched into it. It was $25 from what I can remember, but every time I wear it I feel like the bee's knees and I get a ton of compliments. Other things from here that I love include a retro floral button down, a sterling and onyx ring, and a few vintage blouses. My boyfriend graduated from McKeesport and was fortunate enough to find a bright red screen-printed 1994 McKeesport crewneck sweater in his size last time we visited which was right after Thanksgiving. I could go on and on about the cool vintage finds I've gotten here over time. The best thing about shopping at vintage stores like Highway Robbery is that you'll always walk away with something one-of-a-kind. Going through racks of clothes from days past is always fun, and you just never know what you might find. This is the finest vintage clothing store in the region. Upon entering the shop you are immediately struck by the amazing selection of beautiful, unique items from yesteryear. Whether you're shopping for a summer dress, a hip leather jacket or a funky pair of sunglasses, you're probably going to leave with a new wardrobe of vintage goodies. Highway Robbery prices are very reasonable too - so why shop at boring everyday stores like Gap and H&M when you can shop here for less and leave with items no one in town will have? I really wanted to love this shop, but the couple of times I've been through, it just hasn't really impressed me. First things first. The organization. Oy. Ladies' items are sectioned out by garment category and then sorted by color. Although this results in a lovely rainbow display, it's not exactly ideal for shopping. While the inventory here is small enough that this isn't a BFD, it does kind of force you to go through every single item, at least for us serious shoppers (so perhaps this is actually a mad genius marketing ploy, though...I doubt it). However, I do appreciate that the dress selection is relatively well-labeled by approximate decade. While the prices seem fairly reasonable for dresses ($36-$42 for most items), it seems a little steep for separates, but that's just me. This store is just kind of an odd duck in that the inventory doesn't seem selective enough that it's highly curated but also isn't broad enough for a full shopping experience. Perhaps they simply need more time to grow and find their niche. Finally, I was super excited to venture out here for their $10 "Stuff a Bag" event and left quite disappointed. I wasn't exactly expecting a treasure trove of items for that price but at least a fun shopping experience, but the entire selection was either super well worn slash ratty or like, random t-shirts--frankly, a little sad. Perhaps I was late to the game, coming early the 2nd day of the 3-day event but honestly, I felt super let down. I may be back to check this place out from time to time, mainly as it's only a block down from my beloved Three Rivers Vintage, but I definitely won't make a special trip for it again. read more

This store is a bundle of smiles and sunshine, and has the most raw, down-to-earth staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Although small, this little gem of a store has a wide range of styles and every piece is guaranteed to be in near-perfect condition. This store caters to both men and women through clothing and accessories, and also has fitting rooms that're clean and roomy. I found the prices extremely reasonable for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that, again, are basically brand new. The design of the store is heavily DIY and really adds to the experience of shopping here, and truly embodies the artistic expression that the owner posses. I found place completely by chance while stumbling around South Side. My luck had never been better. I was trying to find another clothing store in South side (which we were barred from entering, because apparently, they don't open on Mondays) until I found this vintage store. Anyway, we started to trudge back to the car when this store happened to catch our eyes. The place was impeccably designed with local artists and while they did not have a large selection of clothes, what they did have was impeccable. I'm always, always looking for vintage/thrift clothing stores - now I have finally found a shop to call "my place". Great location on Carson in the South Side, this place is truly incredible and the prices are pretty great. They have a little of everything (patches, accessories, dresses, jackets and an amazing selection of vintage t-shirts sorted by color). The men's selection is decently large and I always leave with at least one or two items. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, which only adds to the like-ability of the place as a whole. I stop in about every 2-3 weeks and look forward to browsing and seeing what new gems I can add to my closet! read more

Some seriously awesome vintage shopping. Not only is every piece in the store actually vintage vs. thrift, each is incredibly well curated, cared for, labeled, and fairly priced. On top of that, the neighborhood and owner are awesome, too. I walked in just to browse and emerged hours later after trying on countless one-of-a-kind pieces from the 40s up through the 80s. Highway Robbery is an adorable vintage shop that you need to visit asap. They have so many unique items- their selection of unique jewelry is what keeps me coming back. Currently, they have Christmas sweaters for $20 & they will buy them back from you (for cash OR store credit I believeeeeee but don't quote me)- which is awesome, because most people wear their sweater once a year. I found the cutest sunglasses there over the summer for just $10 & adored their $10 "fill-a-bag sale" that they held on Black Friday in 2014. They not only sell vintage items but they will purchase vintage items from you. Their customer service is awesome as well. I can't get enough of this place! read more

This store is exactly what the southside has needed! Casual, wearable vintage clothing for guys and girls and the prices are great. The guys section is filled with cool, cheap t shirts, everything from 80's hair metal band shirts to old steeler shirts from back in the glory days. I'm happy to see there are more clothing boutiques opening in the neighborhood. I hope the trend continues! read more

Popped in here today during an impromptu visit to the South Side and was really impressed. Vintage shops can be all kinds of intimidating and/or impractical but Highway Robbery has a really "pruned" selection of vintage pieces. The store isn't bursting at the seams with "stuff", the racks are easy to browse and they label each piece with hints about it's attributable decade and how it might fit in terms of modern-day sizing. The pricing is reasonable and almost everything in the store was extremely wearable and on-trend. Staff was helpful and very accommodating. I'm looking forward to another visit soon! read more

Highway Robbery is welcoming and organized inside. Everything feels like it was purposely placed to be in that exact spot in that moment. There are treasures galore, and its curated like a fine museum. Shop Owner Kate, is welcoming and delivers some of the finest pieces to be found in Pittsburgh. Can I also mention, they change their windows almost daily! Even though it's a vintage store, the care and the thought that is behind it, doesn't make it feel tired or old. It's fresh and exciting! Definitely worth a trip to the south side! I went with my girlfriend, and was pleasantly surprised to see there was an awesome mens section.
