The gentleman working there was very attentive and happy to help. There is such a wonderful selection of items here, ranging from jewelry, clothing, Buddhist statues, singing bowls, journals, wall decor, incense, and gosh so much more! I've been a regular shopper at the Culture Shop for almost 4 years now. They have such gorgeous, unique pieces that are always highly complimented. The owner is a gem too, very old school, paper receipts & travels to Nepal & India every couple of months to restock the store. All of the staff who work here are just so lovely too!! Another one of my favorite little things about the shop is they give you these cute, simple little bags to take your purchases home in, I reuse them all the time! Wow! What a quaint shop with a lot to look at and for. I was greeted the moment I walked in and invited to look around. There were many handmade items that were lovely. I was drawn to the many hand woven hats they had. I saw a beautiful turquoise hat that would have fit my locs perfectly. Unfortunately, it was not silk lined (I am trying to be more loving to my hair) but fleece around the inside front. There were also gloves to match. There was silver and other clothes for purchase. I found some beautiful leg warmers for my daughter. And my bag that my purchase was put in was a beautiful reusable cloth bag. I'm glad I decided to go ahead and get one. Love this spot!! I actually heard about this place while in LA while hanging at a cookout and a woman had on pants I loved. She told me about getting them a a store in Pittsburgh. We looked up the store on yelp and when I got home 2 weeks later I came to store and found my favorite pants along with some must have incenses!! The staff member was kind and helpful. I knew this place existed, but for some reason or another, I never visited it before, until yesterday. I was actually searching for a very specific item for some time, and had no luck finding it online. I just happened to be riding my motorcycle on Carson Street yesterday after shopping at REI (for something completely different), and I saw Nick's Imports, and stopped real quick, as I saw the owner outside his shop on the sidewalk, and asked him if he had any miniature Himalayan Prayer Flags, and he said no, but he did recommend that I go up the street to the Culture Shop, and that is what I did. When I walked in, a very kind and helpful store associate helped me find exactly what I needed, and for a very reasonable price too, so now I have exactly what I had been searching for, a miniature prayer flag for my motorcycle (see photo). I was supposed to be on a two week motorcycle riding adventure in India up in the Himalayan mountains, originally scheduled for 2020, but because of COVID, it was rescheduled to August 2021 (NOW), but again pushed to 2022, because COVID is still a major problem in India. So, even though I cannot be in the Himalayas right now, at least I can bring a little bit of the Himalayas here, whenever I ride my motorcycle . . . Cheers / Namaste!! read more

I walked in, explained to the person working what I was looking for and they helped me immediately. There were some really great options and the person working gave me some recommendations based on my interests/likes. And then left me alone, which I really appreciated. This place is kind of an amazing place. It's like a magical portal to view yourself through a different look. Granted, the clothes are for women, but I'm fairly sure if you are a guy like myself, you can find something for you as well. Aside from the clothing they have rugs, blankets, jewelry, journals, scarfs, and the list could go on and on here. Heck, I even saw some hacky sacks...that takes me back to my teen years. The staff are easy to approach and very knowledgeable about the products they have for purchase here. I was intrigued by the wood earrings they had for gaged ears. I love this store so much! It has such a cool, relaxed vibe. The girl that waited on me was really nice and did not pressure me at all. I have bought several tops here, and not only are they super vibrant and unique, but they are so comfortable and flattering. On my last visit a few days ago I got a beautiful handmade handbag and some Egyptian goddess essential oil. This is one of my favorite shops in the entire city. Bohemian jewelry, clothing, and knickknacks galore! When in South Side, no matter what I'm down there for, I make it a point to stop in. Even just browsing is a real treat! There is everything from a wall of various types of incense to a room of billowy patterned and tie-dyed dresses and skirts. Balls of hemp string, elephant adorned handbags, and paper lanterns also line the shelves, walls, and ceiling. My personal favorite though is the broad selection of ornate gem jewelry, which, to be honest, is the main reason I pop in. From the flashy labradorite and moonstone to the swirly bumblebee jasper and agate, there is serious eye candy to be feasted on. It's the first room you walk in to, and you can spend an hour in there, EASY. I've introduced so many people to the charms of this shop. I hope they're there for years and years to come. read more

Some of the clothes are a bit out there but it's mostly all one size fits all. I was able to catch them on a sale day that brought a dress down from $31 to $16. I love this shop. I stop in periodically to browse and shop. The last time I visited, they had a full stock of great winter gear at really affordable prices. Big thick mittens in bright colors, animal hats, scarves, you name it. I love this kind of stuff. I believe the big mittens were $12, which is really cheap compared to other places. The clothes at Culture Shop are really adorable and well made. You can tell by touching them that they are quality. Unfortunately, none of them come close to fitting me. They are mostly one size, and that one size leans towards the small side. I still like to admire! One of my favorite things in Culture Shop is their tapestry collection. There are tons in varying price ranges that are absolutely stunning. I basically want them all. The jewelry upfront is always nice to look at, but I question the quality a bit. They say that the jewelry comes from the owners private collection that they picked up in Nepal, India, etc, but I don't know if it's really as romantic as they say. My boyfriend bought me a beautiful ring with two elephants that was supposed to be sterling silver, but it wasn't pure. When buying jewelry here, ask a lot of questions like "What is the purity of this piece?" "If it's not all silver/gold/etc, what metal is mixed with it?" The staff here is generally pretty friendly, but sometimes they can make you feel uncomfortable because they will follow you around. I understand why they do it, it's just really bothersome. Today was my first time at this place and I have to say it's on my list of favorites now. My friend and I were walking around and she asked if we could stop in and browse. She has great taste so I followed along. HOLY CRAP what have I been missing?! This place rocks! There's so many things to look at and try and feel and buy. It's split up kind of in three sections. In the front in an area with some jewelry, the middle and back rooms have clothing and head bands as well as other accessories to check out. I saw sage and incense and other cool stuff. The place smelled so good and I loved the holiday-themed music that was playing. I found myself singing along to it. I thought the jewelry was pretty unique and something I would go for. I bought a pair of earrings and a nose ring. My friend also bought some jewelry. I will be back again to spend all my money. read more

Can't believe I never wrote a review for this store. It's been YEARS since I've visited the tapestry-covered walls, but this place was always neat. It's stuffed full with bohemian clothes and accessories, but you can find things that will work for the more-mainstream realm, too. I bought a black dress here in 2009-2010, that I'm actually wearing today (it's what made me realize I should write a review). You'll find clothes, hats, gloves, jewelry, rugs, home decor, accessories, etc.--all wonderful for gifts for your world-traveling friends. The clothes styles may dance dangerously close to the noveau-hippie trends of the mid-nineties, but that just may be me having flashbacks to the Craig Street of that time. At Christmas the shop carries really pretty ornaments that stick to the super colorful palette of the shop's stock. Even though the store is on the small side, there are so many different items and the layout of the store is smartly designed to display the wares without it feeling overwhelming or cluttered. I love it here! Great goodies like incense silver natural stone jewlery, and cute clothing. I bought a hand made head wrap for the cooler weather which is lined with fleece and I love. Also great selection of silver jewlery which I have not been able to find elsewhere in pittsburgh. I bought two labordorite rings here I adore. This is a great store for people who enjoy living a hippie or gypsy life. Lots of incense, eclectic jewelry, leather journals, and tie dye. The prices range from reasonable to "you've got to be joking" and everything in between. When you first enter you're greeted by a small room full of jewelry, the employees, and a heavenly aroma. The next two rooms hold clothing, knick knacks, and accessories. The racks hold mostly the same clothing design in different colors. I go mainly for the jewelry. Two problems: the employees will follow you around like you're going to steal something and I'm crossed on this. On one hand I understand they lose a lot of inventory due to shoplifting but on another hand it doesn't make one feel welcome. Second problem is the store hours. They open later than the other stores on the street which means if you like to go there right after rush hour traffic died down you still have to wait another hour for them to open. This place is so cool! Definitely my favorite shop in south side! The first time I went here, I went a little hog wild. I bought a pair of $8 earrings, a henna kit, a tapestry and some fun stickers! They have a large variety of items in such a small space. A couple of years ago they expanded and now carry purses, head bands, skirts, tops, journals, drums, wall hangings and quilts.
