I scheduled an appointment with Highline's Financial Aid Office two months in advance, but because I arrived 15 minutes late due to work, my appointment was canceled on the spot. I then checked in at the office and was given a 108-minute wait time through their outdated sign-in system. After waiting over an hour with no update or email (despite a sign stating that we would receive one upon check-in), I asked about my place in line. I was told they couldn't help me. When I asked again about the missing email confirmation, I was told I'd need to sign in again and start my wait all over, essentially wasting the hour I had already spent. At every step it felt like I was hitting intentional barriers rather than being helped. The lack of communication, transparency, and empathy for students -- many of whom are juggling jobs and classes -- is unacceptable. This office badly needs a modernized system and staff who are willing to assist students instead of pushing them back to the start. read more

Through my AS degree completion, I came across with ONLY two awesome faculty's: Aleya and Terry from physics and math department respectfully. If you are looking to learn about the subjects and its contain they are an excellent professors. I recommend taking their class. Thank you for teaching me, welcomed me on your office hours always. Bad sides, the International Student Program, discrimination exists. I was forced to pay double health insurance fees. The one I provided outside the school was not accepted instead they wanted me to keep the one I get from the school which was triple expensive from what I had form outside the school. I clearly provided the more coverage form the outside insurance and still not considered. Instead I was given lip service and cliche response on multiple email I sent. Done nothing about it. You didn't care at all. No thank you for messing up my mental wellness. read more

I absolutely love Highline. I am reluctant leaving this review as I am afraid their financial aid office will screw me even more. It's like they like f***ing with you. I have never had this much trouble with financial aid. They are jerks who keep making me jump through hoops for no reason. I gave them everything they asked for... now they want me to take off work to go in and fill out fotm IN PERSON. Never been asked to do this anywhere else. Honestly I wish I would have stayed at CWU. Their financial aid staff were awesome. Again I LOVE Highline but their financial aid staff are horrible and making me regret my decision to transfer. I went to HC for two years in high school with running start. The classes were set up well and the instructors were good. The communication was not good. When I was set to graduate I was told I was missing credits, I went through the process of figuring this out but kept getting different answers. I was told I completed everything and was set to graduate. I paid all of the fee's and just waited. The summer quarter came to an end and I didn't hear anything until I contacted the school and they told me I don't have the credits so I can't graduate. I showed them the email where Karen said I can graduate and they said she made a mistake. I have went through loads of stress figuring this out just to find out I wasted my money trying to graduate. read more

This is an amazing college! But their financial aid DEPARTMENT SUCKS HORRIBLY. They're not on top of their stuff. If you get financial aid make sure you check at least 2 weeks before your quarter starts that you'll get that paid for bc they won't let you know unless you ask. I really like coming to this college! I am in the personal training program here at Highline. My only complaint is the financial aid department my first quarter here they left my file sitting for months. I didn't even get aid until Spring I started in Fall quarter. They don't tell you deadlines and some of the people working there are extremely rude. Other than that I'm enjoying my time here. My advice before starting here though is look at the catalog for what you want to do and then look for who the advisor for that program is unless you plan to just go for your genre AA degree! Otherwise you will be wasting your time as the main advisors will just tell you they can't help you and to schedule with the advisor for your program. The staff is very friendly, however financial aid SUCKS here. If you are using financial aid, I don't recommend going to this school! I've had my FAFSA submitted for MONTHS now and haven't heard anything back. Financial aid isn't on top of anything and it's ridiculous that I've had to send so many emails. And I definitely qualify for financial aid as I'm a single mother on one minimum wage income. Financial aid slacks at their job and doesn't care about their students, it's really sad. 10/10 would recommend not going to school here. read more

I'm a new student at Highline and my experience with admissions, financial aid, and registration has been an absolute nightmare. I transferred as a post-bac student from Gonzaga University where the administrative faculty actually helped the students with the admissions process. So far, I have encountered endless unreturned phone calls and emails and no one is willing to go above and beyond. I am frustrated with the lack of responsiveness from administration and hope that this is not every student's experience. Luckily the professors seem intelligent and willing to help the students learn. read more

Ugh. This school drove me crazy. The secretary in one office would send me to another office and then I would get sent to another and on and on. The employees were often really rude. I never got answers. I applied and turned my papers in way before the deadline. Online, it said that all of my paperwork had been turned in. Then right before registration started, all of a sudden it said I hadn't completed my paperwork. I contacted the school and they never gave me a straight answer. In addition, I applied for a scholarship and when I hadn't heard back from them, I figured I hadn't gotten the scholarship. I had to un-enroll in classes because I couldn't pay for them. The day after I unenrolled (and just before classes started), they called to tell me I had won the scholarship. However, it was too late because I was already unenrolled. They lady who called me told me to call her back. I called back three twice and every time I got another rude lady who told me that she was gone. Oh yeah, and the couple times that I contacted the admissions office via email, I got the most ridiculous responses back. They never answered my questions. I will say that an advising counselor that I talked to was awesome and really helpful. read more

Don't ever take anyone's word for anything they loose paperwork which seems more of a dishonesty type move however always get a copy of proof that things are as they say because you will be told your good to go with a smile ...then-when the quarter starts you can't go. It's a school population control game they do to student aid Students only. Sounds like Discrimination to me but keep it all documented or you will miss out quarters of your school plan, and that's the point on their end to discourage and cut down aid. I seen many students yelling and crying and told they are missing things and can't attend for the quarter I also heard and been through myself it's so common it should be investigated. read more

Once you FINALLY get to your classes, this place is fine. However, the website--even after many years--still continues to be unorganized and unhelpful. This is further reflected in the office staff that will continue to mismanage your information delaying your ability to register on time. I just came from the HCC office *today* to try to obtain a 'registration appointment time' which you need to register for class online. I did this because I wasn't getting any response from their admissions office via email. After filling out a paper, the woman told me I could register, but it would be in about two business days after she processed my paper. Now, compare this to another local CC that I've also attended--you give them your information and you are able to register IMMEDIATELY after calling them. No need to walk into the office. Not so with HCC. Now I have to wait after my medical class has filled up to get on a wait list of I-don't-know-how-many people because someone can't be bothered to click a few buttons to punch in my ID number. It's not like they have to mail my paper out. Furthermore, as a medical student I'm disappointed many of the science buildings are in poor shape. I took some biology classes here a while back (like last year)and none of the buildings have been updated, they are still using microscopes from the 70's and there aren't enough anatomical models to check out for the nursing/bio students. On top of that, hunting down a professor's office is a nightmare. Your class might be in one building, but you might have to hike clear across campus to find them during office hours--and they might not even be there. Further cons: 1. Staff (specifically office) is consistently rude. Not to mention there are so many phones, but no one seems to know how to work them when you call. You'll always get an answering machine. 2. Mismanagement of student funds. I've had two tuition checks that were issued from my bank magically disappear forcing me to be placed on a waitlist for two core classes when I was fully registered in both. I had put both checks in the drop box for the registrar's office. I was offered no apology, no one offered to look for the checks, we had to call the bank after I got my classes and void/reissue a check. 3.Good luck trying to navigate the poorly designed website/office areas. This isn't 1995, the internet is not a newfangled thingamajig. Surely, you can spare some funds/coerce a poor digital arts major into designing an attractive, user-friendly website. Pros: 1. Biology and English classes here were a blast. History was also pretty amazing. Take Woody (Moses) for Bio and Angie (Caster) for anything English/Writing related. They will work you, but you will also learn amazing things. 2. Some of the buildings are quite nice, provide eating space and study areas. 3. Nice views of the sound. 4. Diverse population 5. Lots of clubs and activities. I met some friends here in the first half of my undergrad that have stuck with me.I've had great social experiences and many of the professors are really there for you. Yes, this college has a lot to work on. If you're going to choose Highline, demand results--because that's what you're demanding of yourself, right? read more

The previous reviews are true! Absolute worst financial aid office EVER!! My daughter is unfortunately currently enrolled here and has struggled EVERY SINGLE QUARTER with their financial aid office. The current issue, and why I am taking to social media and placing a review is because they are putting their mistakes on my daughter, telling her that she owes THEM money for their over sight and supposed over payment to her. She's 19 and they want her to pay back OVER $5,000. She hasn't even finished her pre-requisites yet! We have even met face to face with the Associate Director of Financial Aid, Kathy Day and my daughters current financial aid advisor and NOTHING! It was honestly like talking to a brick wall. They were disorganized and admitted that they had no idea about what was going on nor did they have answers for us and would need to review everything from our meeting. So what did they do? They reviewed all their OLD paperwork and none of the new information provided. I am confused as to the point of the meeting. I have written a letter to the Director of Financial Aid in hopes that I can get some answers but it appears that she will be "in and out of the office sporadically over the next few months" WTF?! Who does one go to if they have any questions or concerns about the incompetent staff? This is infuriating not only for my husband and I, but also for our 19 year old daughter whom this "mistaken" debt is being placed on. She trusted this institution to provide her with true and accurate information on all of the forms requested of her only to be penalized for their incompetent actions. Furthermore, they keep requesting documents from my husband and I from a time period in which my daughter didn't even live with us. We told them that we would provide no information to them that would result in them further penalizing our daughter. In response to that, her advisor wrote a letter stating that if we did NOT provide said documents they would in turn FALSIFY information to benefit them and their records! I am confused how it's ok for them to falsify records to meet their needs. This seems extremely shady and illegal. It saddens me that my daughter is experiencing such great difficulty with an educational institution that is suppose to be on her side. Be very wary of this school. Having gone to Bellevue College and a 4-year university, I feel like I have some pretty good experience with rating schools. Highline didn't disappoint but I think there are some things they need to do to make it better. Parking is a mess, with two entrances and one exit at the main lot. Expect 15 minutes to get out of the parking lot if you leave right after class. The faculty is incredible, full of wit and wisdom. I loved my physics teacher so much. Even if he was forgetful, his passion for the subject and charisma really made learning fun. The school layout is awful, with dozens of separate buildings and no help desk at any of them. It is very challenging for new students to become acclimated. The student body is incredibly diverse racially, economically, and educationally. I really enjoyed that coming from Bellevue. In terms of education, this school is not nearly as rigorous as Bellevue College. It doesn't prepare you to transfer to a 4-year as well, hence the low rating. read more

so I'm taking the compass placement test and walking in to HCC because they offer the test from monday thru friday- and for 10 more dollars you can use the test for any college. I've been bouncing on which college to attent but when I walked into the highline campus I felt in love with its design and greenery and dome auditorium. awesome architecture and being able to see the sound overwhelmed my sense of delight. I Was delighted!!! I happily approached the woman in the main office. i told her i wanted to pay for the compass test. she asked for my id. asked for 20.65 took my money gave a receipt then shuffled papers in discomfort. i was confused but walked away. could you at least direct me in the right direction. instead of stitting there hoping i leave quickly? I tried to ignore her so I went to the testing center. and wanted to verify that i was able to take the test tomorrow. the woman ignored for a while shuffling papers. maybe hoping i would figure it out my self and leave. but really how often happens when you make plans and they dont announce their holiday schedules. I just wanted to make sure. I asked her if the center would be available tomorrow. she points the door and says. "see it says it right there" obviously annoyed. I was kindly asking. there was no reason for her to make me feel like i was bothering. ugh. yeah I walked back to my friend who had accompanied me and I told him about the frigid response i keep getting from the staff. he say my expression. and said. If i was in india. i would come home crying everyday. because all personnel acted like that but worse. well i was thoroughly demoralize by the time i left the campus. and NO i will not be attending this demeaning school. because i don't live in india. and I do expect people to treat me as I treat them. courteously! my butt is going to South SEATTLE! read more

I graduated from HCC in 2005 with an emphasis in geology. Take Eric Baer's geo classes. ALL of them. He's adorable, his classes are fascinating and interesting. I'm a geologist today (lucrative and cool profession people!!) because of those classes. Carla Whittington also offers great courses. Baby college were the best of my college experience. My first school in the U.S. College overall is good and cheaper than a university so that's a plus but the books are way overpriced. Library resource was limited. Also parking should at least be free to students because is impossible to find a spot during morning hours while the quarterly parking pass costs 50 dollars. For new students who are on budget, you can park in Lowe's parking right next to the school. I love this school, but I have to give 2 stars is because the campus is not safe. Many cellphone robberies were reported when I attended there, but the school doesn't seem like having any idea to deal with the issues. My friend was robbed in broad daylight right in the campus. Someone also stole the car of this same guy again in the school parking lot. I guess may be he got bad luck or the school is not safe. Also don't walk alone in the small road connected the north parking and the 20th if you are females when it's dark. Bunch of sexual abuse stuffs happened there. read more

It is true parking is a bit of an issue for day students. If your an evening student you should never really have any issues finding parking. This is my first Quarter and I like it so far. My Paralegal teacher Ms Neilsen is awesome! It's a smaller campus with a lot of foeign students. The downside is the registration process. If your new to the campus expect to be on a wait list for more popular classes. I also like the system they have for seeing an academic or financial advisor. You basically pull a number to see someone. You know like in the deli line? Overall, I recommend this campus. read more

Having attended several colleges (including 2 community colleges), I'm very impressed with Highline College. My 16 year old is a Running Start student and the resources they have for these kids is AMAZING! I wish I would have had access to 1/4 of the services they have available for these students. The staff really wants all the students to be successful and sets them up for success. They also have done a lot of remodeling/building in the last few years (when you pull up though it is still the crappy old building that greeted the masses 30+ years ago - they really need to redo the main office building - Building 6. read more

My sister is attending here this Fall. We came in for orientation and to check up on some paperwork. The building # system is pretty easy. Everything is very walkable. The main office could be a little more organized however. We were going around to find out where we could purchase an Orca card, but they sent us on a wild goose chase. We walked from the main office, to the Student building, back to main office, back to the student building, back to the main office. And in the end, we didn't get it cause they don't sell it (and we found this out by going online). Except for that mishap, the campus is very accessible and has great views of the lake! read more

This campus is a very diverse one. A lot of different people from different cultures and races. It is my first quarter and so far, it's been really nice. If you are a first timer, you get what's left of the classes so, it's tough luck to get into the classes you would like most especially if it's popular such as the 1st Aid, CPR Class. Parking is tough most especially on the hours of 10am - 12nn. So my advise is you get earlier classes or later ones. :) The professors/teachers are very helpful if you approach them. They will entertain all your concerns and would advise you well. Two things I don't like is that it is hard to gain friends because everyone has classes of their own to attend to and the fact that there's always bad news from the college news such as someone getting robbed in or around the campus. This school has put me through the ringer and now my 2 year degree is taking 5 years due to their inefficient processes and lack of cohesion between other departments and their lack of understanding their own policies. THE WORST administration I have ever encountered! I'm a Nursing student at South Seattle, and was accepted into Highline CC. I regret the transfer now as the administration offices (Financial Aid, Counseling, etc) are awful! I've been to 5 different colleges too. Big thumbs down. I'd be more specific but it'd entail writing a book. It is like waiting at a DMV with rude service and an un-sympathetic outlook. They forget students are CUSTOMERS. I had to call the VP of Student Services multiple times to have them nudge the appropriate staff to help me in specific matters with my grant. Awful. Rude. Ghetto (there is a security problem where students are getting robbed of their cell phones, hooligans come by afterhours and break windows, etc.). read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE Financial Aid Office!! If you want quality education - DO NOT INVEST YOUR TIME/MONEY HERE. My husband has been enrolled here on and off for the past several years completing prerequisites while working full-time in hopes of getting into either the Nursing or Respiratory Therapy program. We've had issues with their Financial Aid Office in the past, but this Quarter - Spring 2014, is the absolute WORST! I just gave birth to our son last Fall, and my husband had to take a few quarters off because of my very difficult pregnancy and we knew life as new parents was not going to be conducive to continuing with school. Now that our son is several months old, my husband decided earlier this year to return this quarter. He was pro-active in submitting all of the requisite information/documents as he was instructed and understood them to be, and beginning a month or so prior to the quarter beginning, had followed-up with the Financial Aid office 4 times in person and over the phone to confirm that everything was in order in time for Spring Qtr (the reason for the multiple follow-ups was because of historically horrible customer service and poor knowledge of these representatives). He had been told on conversations #s 2-4 that everything was in order. Well, that Friday prior to the qtr beginning, he went in for visit #5 and lo and behold ... he was informed by a representative he had not spoken to prior to this meeting that in fact he was not all set for Spring Qtr. He explained the situation to her, and apparently she was able to see on her end that there were 3 visits prior where he was told everything was kosher, so she was able to make a phone call to get the ball rolling on his behalf. THANK YOU to the incompetent idiots he had spoken to beforehand for the misinformation. I'm glad you are able to sit comfortably behind that desk and sleep well at night knowing that you can interfere with people's livelihoods, and still get paid for being the epitome of incompetence. I blame Highline's Administrative entities for allowing this type of precedent to be set. In most institutions/corporations, these individuals would be F.I.R.E.D. for their uncaring and lack luster performance. Although the last representative he had spoken to was able to get us past that first hump - we had to be setup on their tuition payment plan because being that it was the day prior to the quarter starting, his loan would not have come in on time - he went in yet again today (visit #6) and we are still unable to get any cooperation from their office as to when his student loan would be coming in, and his next payment plan payment is due tomorrow. Perhaps it's another eff up cover up? We don't know. All we know is that we are going to have to literally scrounge up the funds to pay for this next payment if his loan does not come in. After just having paid thousands of dollars for my medical bills, and financially catching up from being only on short-term disability for approximately 6 months, all we have left to tap into without applying for another loan is OUR 6-MONTH OLD SON'S SAVINGS ACCOUNT. We are responsible adults who were dealt a financial hiccup and did our due diligence to make sure everything was in order to have things go smoothly for both us and this office. If he were given correct information from the get-go, we could have saved time and effort for both parties. What a shame that Highline doesn't put quality as a priority for their employees and students. At this rate I hope that area institutions are able to open up more programs and make room for increased classroom sizes in order to accommodate individuals who are seeking quality instruction and quality administration and leave this institution in the dust. Maybe that's already the case and perhaps why it's the lesser who are left working here. I hope and pray my husband is accepted into a quality institution and we no longer have to deal with this nightmare. read more

Went here for a test, and I was not impressed. The staff seems to always be playing catch up. I've been to other testing centers that were far better. The campus is starting to show some age, but overall it was a fairly well maintained from what I saw. It is out of the way for me, but if you're local I am sure it is super convenient. If I were in the market for a community college, I would probably move closer to a better one. read more

Students seem pretty good so far, though I look their age... But, the staff has been excellent since I've been up here checking things out. There surely needs to be a better usage from the janitorial department, or I guess that would be the parking lot janitors (... or whatever), because each time I've came up here it seems to be infused by trash. This school is so unorganized. Really slow when it comes to processing paperwork. They never answer the phones or answer emails. The main office staff are uneducated with their responsibilities and often rude. I had to come to the campus multiple times about the same problem with my paperwork not being processed on time and now i cant get my financial aid money on time. During my time at highline in 2002, my experience was great. Loved meeting the older more mature crowd, no more clicks! Hooray!!! BUT! 11 years later trying to get my transcripts was nearly impossible (I am still trying to get them!!!) Same thing with my other College (CTU in Colorado). It is my personal opinion that transcripts are the PROPERTY of the STUDENT, and that ACCESSIBILITY is the most important thing. The colleges have our money, so why can't we access a few pages of our own information?? It took ALL day yesterday trying to get someone on the phone who could help me and was transferred 3 times to voicemails. I also left an email. Not one phone call has been returned nor have I gotten an email reply. I do NOT care if "staff is low", I want access to my information as other colleges do not revolve around the staff at HCC. Not being able to get my information causes me to have to start later at my new college. I gave an earful to every person (to include every staff members I talked to at CTU and as you can guess they were all deaf ears). I know this isn't hardly a true review....but I want the systems to change!! And I want everyone to chime in and stand up for what is right. I haven't even said everything I had to go through and really the point is that we need access to our information in an easy way without having to deal with issues. I tried logging in online but it does not recognize me (maybe since it's been 11 years since I last attended). This is unsatisfactory!! Please people, if you have the ability, try and make a change in the school systems to make it easier for students to obtain their information. As easy as putting in your SSN along with other info that you can't forget. I was able to get my military transcripts in literally 5 minutes!!! On a site I had never visited before and I got BOTH my Army and Navy transcripts to pop right up!! It was amazing! So basically, the once horrible and broken military sites have now surpassed the school systems when it comes to accessibility and user friendliness! Unbelievable!! read more

I enjoyed this campus , and felt welcome. It was easy to find where I was going. This was my very first visit at the Highline campus. I attend another school and was attending for a conference which gave me fieldwork hours. It was also an informative conference. It was a sunny day when I was there which helps my overall mood ! read more

After having attended Tacoma Community College first, I liked this college a lot more. First, location was a lot nicer up north than down south. I enjoyed all of my professors here! Most classes I took were science, and humanities. I think that it's important to look up professors online at their ratings so you can avoid or be prepared. It will definitely make the experience better! I never really used financial aid or advising, so I can't give any useful information on that matter! read more
