We started at the giving tree over the summer after having a bad experience at another daycare and it's been great!

We brought our son there at 1yr of age and it has been one of our best parenting decisions yet. The staff has been caring, communicative and extremely helpful. The nap training alone has been worth it! I could write more and more, but mostly importantly, our child is happy, constantly learning and hasn't lost an ounce of his bright personality. The first drop offs are the hardest, but the 50th start feeling pretty freeing. A feeling you only gain with trust your child's in good hands. Thank You Kent Campus. It's been a good year!

From the infant room all the way up to the elementary school age kids, my 4 kids ABSOLUTELY enjoy their time here every day. I have 1 kid in the infant room, toddler room and lastly elementary. I have used this center as well as the previous Learning Land center on 256th street for a grand total of 5 years and counting. All workers here are diverse, friendly, informative, safe, empathetic, supportive, nurturing, patient, experienced and licensed. I would HIGHLY recommend this childcare center to all parents needing childcare over anybody and any other center. -Raya S-

Our experience with this daycare was extremely concerning and unfortunately very short-lived…read more Within the first week (my child only attended four days), there were multiple safety incidents involving classroom doors that children were able to open. On the second day, I received a call that my child had opened the classroom door and exited into the hallway. Staff told me they were changing a diaper and didn't notice right away. Thankfully he was found quickly and had only made it to the first lobby door. When I picked him up shortly after, a staff member told me he had attempted to open the door several times within about 15 minutes. I asked what I could do to help prevent this from happening again and was told there was nothing needed from me and that staff would just remain on "high alert." I was also told that the center had discussed changing the door handles before but had not done so. A few days later, I received another call that my child had exited the classroom again while the class was cleaning up and only one teacher was present because the other teacher was on break. Earlier that same day there was also an incident where the children were outside playing and my child was able to walk to another classroom door and open it before being redirected. During the phone call about the second incident, the director stated that while they could redirect behaviors like not wanting to sit during circle time or meals, my child opening doors was "too much" for them to handle. She suggested we find another childcare provider and recommended a home daycare where there would be more one-on-one attention. This was confusing because the class only had about six students. What was frustrating is that all of the behaviors they raised concerns about were things we **fully disclosed during the tour before enrolling**. We explained that our child had never been in daycare before, does not talk yet, does not always follow verbal commands, and had recently discovered how to open doors. At the time we were reassured these were common toddler behaviors and that staff would redirect and work with him. There were also inconsistencies in the information we received. During pickup after the second incident, one teacher told me the situation happened while he was in her care, while earlier the director had told us a different teacher was responsible at the time. We were also told about an additional door incident that day but never received an incident report for it. I completely understand that teachers are responsible for supervising multiple children and cannot focus all of their attention on one child. However, when staff acknowledge that doors are not childproof and a child is able to open them multiple times within only a few days of attendance, that raises serious concerns about safety and preventative measures. Ultimately, we were advised by the director to find another childcare provider. We will be doing that and hope to find a program that is more willing to work with toddlers who are adjusting to their first daycare experience.

TTM is a pedagogically-observant Montessori school, which will come as a relief to those parents…read morewho believe in the method and seek something more for their kids (and their expense) than a glorified day care. The classes are appropriately sized and more than adequately staffed with Montessori-trained guides & aides, and feature a full complement of beautiful wood, metal, and fabric Montessori-specific works arranged to allow curious minds instant access to meaningful, self-directed learning. The administrative staff is exceptional, led by a 20+ year veteran of both Pacific Crest Montessori & Northwest Montessori School. While transparently placing the student experience first (as they should), this administration takes great pains to accommodate the needs of parents by being respectful of the scant spare time available to most parents, and by reaching out to parents with lots of pertinent information & updates. The building itself is a high-security cruciform arrangement where toddler, primary, and elementary classes are housed in their own wings. It appears to be a former hospice or nursing home, the practical upshot of which is wide hallways and doors, bright sunny rooms, and lots of 'safety' hardware in common areas. The outside play areas are securely fenced (with locking, key-coded gates) and include play structures, gardening, and opportunities to get messy in real dirt in the time-honored tradition. The location is a quarter mile off WA-509 in Burien at 160th Street, just down the street from Highline Medical Center. We make the drive from Capitol Hill every day in 20 minutes. The location is also served by several bus lines from downtown Seattle (#131 & #121 pass 1/8 mi. to the east @ 160th & 1st; #123 1/8 mi. to the west @ 160th & 4th).

I am also incredibly proud of our administration and board of directors. They have weathered many storms through the years well and led us through difficulties with wisdom, always putting the children and their care first.

Miss Felicia, the owner,…read moreis dismissive of parents' concerns, often discusses inappropriate topics in front of children, and is fully aware that there are bullies in her daycare but does nothing about it. Felicia is often unreachable during business hours, including during the frequent times the van fails to pick up kids from school on time, leading the schools to make phone calls to confused and panicked parents. Felicia is aware that many of the parents she serves are immigrants, have low incomes, and/or have few options. She exploits this to take generous state subsidies while being rude and officious to parents without actually addressing their needs. The outdoor play area is very small, mostly made of concrete, and has only a very small play structure and very few toys. The indoor space is maze-like, extremely cramped, and claustrophobic with no natural light. It smells bad. There is minimal actual "learning" done at the daycare; it's staffed by babysitters--many of whom are under 18 and unsupervised. There are no cameras in the facility. The food offered is inadequate and unhealthy.

He felt so comfortable there even though he had never been out of our sights. I would recommend parents to give this preschool a chance! Every teacher had their own age they teach and a set curriculum. It was clear from the start what they do with the kids.

Ms. Pedersen and Ms. Knight, along with all of the aides and assistants who have helped throughout the years, are nothing short of incredible. Their dedication, flexibility, and genuine love for what they do shines through every day. Both of my children have benefitted immensely from their time at the school, and our family will truly miss the teachers and our time there. Thank you South Preschool!
