Pescados is the best Mexican restaurant in Highlands! I've been frequenting Pescados since they opened and try to make it there every time I come to visit. They have amazing quesadillas and fantastic guacamole and pico. Every ingredient is fresh and you can't beat the simplicity of their menu. I highly recommend Pescados for a quick lunch or dinner and the best seats in the house are on their side patio. They also have great cookies for dessert. I would also recommend getting extra pico to add to their cheese dip, although good flavor it is extremely thick and needs something to cut the density. I will definitely be back in November during the wine tasting festival! read more

Really bland food but seemed like good ingredients. House margarita was not good; tasted artificial and sweet. Employees were nice but not able to answer questions about ingredients in the food for dietary restrictions. On the website it said the veggie option was steamed broccoli, red pepper, and zucchini. I was given raw zucchini, red pepper, and green pepper (which I cannot eat). Guac was about $2 extra and they gave a really tiny amount. Serving size overall was not very big. I have not been here in years. In fact, it was Pescados the last time I was here. I am sorry that I let that much time pass! It was still amazing! It is set up like Moe's, but fresher. Serving locals for 20 years. Prices are reasonable for the area, and there are good GF options. Blackened tilapia taco on corn tortilla is really good and grilled shrimp is even better. All meats are gluten free except chicken. They do not even have a fryer on site. Their corn tortillas are made in house and pressed on a grill which they will clean before your order in addition to using foil to insulate your food in the press. They also have chips and hard taco shells that come prepackaged and the label indicates that they are gluten free. Queso is GF. read more

While every other restaurant in Highlands has a wait or is short staffed, this spot is a gem on the mountain. Three ladies behind the counter making your meal 'Subway' style - place your order, add your protein, choose your toppings, add a beverage (let me suggest the margaritas), pay and eat! If you want a sit down, catered to restaurant experience, there are plenty of other options in this town. Just bring your wallet and more importantly your patience as the staffing shortage is a real issue here. But if you just want some good, fresh food at a reasonable price, this is your place. Moe's / Chipotle style restaurant that, for my tastes, does it better than the others that do it the same way. Staff is always delightful and the place is always clean. Well, I went here for lunch with high expectations after having an incredible meal at a different Pescados Burrito a few towns over, thinking they were related. Not sure if they are or not, but I was disappointing by my food here. I ordered a vegetarian burrito with the steamed veggies included inside. The lack of goody choices (things that go inside the burrito) was saddening. No banana peppers, no sauteed onions and peppers, only one type of salsa/tomato, no unique ingredients like cabbage or corn. The steamed veggies added to the burrito had no flavor whatsoever. There were three types of sauce on each of the tables. Aside from that, I didnt see any dressings or sauces in the burrito making line-up. These sauces on the table were a mild verde, medium red, and hot chipotle. I'm not a fan of smoky sauces, but the chipotle tasted legit. The medium red and mild verde had hardly any taste to them at all. I ended up using about half the bottle of red to try to get some flavor in my burrito (especially since the steamed veggies were blander than bland). I tasted no spice and finished rather disgruntled. Overall the flavors were rather nonexistent, such as when I have a stuffy nose and can't taste worth a darned. On an up side, the prices are good and the workers were approachable and friendly. The service was fast. My friend had a fish burrito and said it had flavor and the other meats looked good at least. My suggestions for them would be to flavor the steamed veggies, add some kick to the sauces, and broaden the ingredient choices. read more

Five stars because my wife said it was the best burrito she ever had. Also the service is very accommodating, the kind you only get from a locally owned eatery. The Highlands food scene is filled with uppity, foo-foo cafes. Pescados is a nice escape from all that nonsense. What a delightful lunch spot! If you crave a burrito, taco or quesadilla, this is where you want to go. I love that they offer a whole wheat tortilla upgrade for only 25 cents more. The ingredients are very fresh and you get to choose what toppings you want on your order. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is plenty of seating inside. Plus, it is in a convenient location in Highlands close to The Old Edwards Inn. There is nothing to fault here and plenty to be happy about. Unlike some restaurants where you wonder how clean they are, Pescados has earned a 100 % sanitation rating. For what it is, there is nothing better than this. Oh, and did I mention that the iced tea is excellent? They're open 11 - 3 Monday through Saturday, so plan your visit accordingly. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite lunch spots in Highlands. I moved away nearly a year ago and still crave it. Good, fresh and simple ingredients add up to tasty, REAL food. No processed junk here. For chip munchers: unlike many Mexican restaurants you don't automatically get a side of free ones, but if you order a burrito you'll be so full you won't miss them.
