I came about 3:30 in the afternoon with my dog. It took a while for me to be waited on outside. I inquired about the dinner plates and what was available was enchiladas mole. Perfect. I didn't order chips and salsa since that is an up charge. Besides, I don't eat very many. They have a choice of black beans or refried. I chose the refried. The enchiladas were very good and the mole sauce a little spicy! I loved it. While the service was spotty, the food was very good. I'll be back here during my trip. read more

Chile Loco is a must stop for me in the Highlands-Cashiers area. It's a local family owned authentic Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Cashiers. The restaurant features booth, table, and bar seating. We opted for the bar, which has 6-8 seats (I think some are added as needed). My go to drink is their house sangria. Delicious, fruity, and made to order! The margaritas are incredibly popular and have heard rave reviews from some trusted margaritas aficionados. The thing you must try. And when I tell you must try, please factor in I have thought about this everyday since our last visit 4 months ago. (Not local to NC). TORTILLA SOUP. It is perfection. Simple. The broth is warm and spicy, but not hot spicy. The tortillas are fresh and crispy. How are they crispy in a soup?! Not sure but it's amazing. And topped with some fresh avocado. A nice creamy addition. While I have had (and love) the tamales. Our go to is the carne asada tacos. We like the Mexican style, just tortillas with the meat of your choice topped with onions and cilantro. They are served with a hot sauce and salsa verde. Hit with a fresh squeeze of lime, they're perfect! All in all, a wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant nestled in the mountains. Would definitely add to your list to try! read more

This place is excellent. Great food, great drinks. Best Mexican in Cashiers by far.

Back again, and still sticking with 5 stars. Gus was our server, and he was so funny in addition to being efficient. We ordered the salsa and chips, which yes, are often free elsewhere, but they were fresh thick cut chips and better than freebie ones. We had Nacho Beef Fajitas, which I've never seen on menu, and they were tasty and the beef was tender. Love their food! read more

Very disappointed. You have to pay for chips and salsa. Really??? Such a shame. Chimichangas were small. Burrito had more rice in it than the other ingredients. The 1 server couldn't handle the tables he had. I'm not going back! read more

We ended up stopping by Chile Loco at the recommendation of a friend. I will tell you: it was PACKED! I always take this as a good sign. We did have a bit of a wait for a table, but it was worth it as everyone we saw dining there seemed to be really enjoying their meals. We were a table of 5. We ordered the tacos, the beef & chicken fajitas with a side of rice and refried beans, the nachos fajitas, the ground beef nachos and a cubana. All were fresh & delicious! We also had a couple of margaritas (well prepared) and a strawberry daiquiri... also delicious. Our server was Jorge and he couldn't have been any nicer or accommodating. We are already planning a return trip. Highly recommend! read more

Food, Service, and atmosphere are all Fabulous! I love the shrimp quesadillas and my daughter loves the 3 tacos!

This is a quiet restaurant in Cashiers. The staff are friendly and food is made to order. There is a bar in side and also a small space to sit outside if you want to enjoy the mountain air, the servings are very adequate and comes out hot. There is also a nice variety to chose from. We enjoyed a margarita, they make their own mix. Was light on the Tequila but still good. We have been twice now and the food is consistent. I am sure we will be back before we head home. 2018 and back again. What a great place for Mexican food. The atmosphere is happy and again the staff, food and drinks were very good. Everything comes out hot and made to order. The salsa is the best I've had. Looking forward to retur next yest read more

Chile Loco - Great place to meet friends for dinner!! - Mexican Near Me - Cashiers, North Carolina

We were looking for a good place to eat after we were not able to ski. This is a very small town, so I'm sure everyone goes to the same places. The lines were crazy and there was no parking in any of the two other restaurants for lunch. We decided we were going to go for the good stuff, Mexican. I'm Hispanic so I can tell you. This place is authentic. The spicy margarita was 10 out of 10. the tejana fajitas were outstanding. Not one single person had to complain about their food. The watermelon Agua Fresca was also a 10. The service was stellar and the staff was quick. This is a great place for lunch or dinner. This is definitely a little gem. read more

Terrible service and incredibly rude staff and owner. Food is mediocre and greasy at best. They take their phone off the hook so you can't call in an order. Packed our to go so poorly it spilled all over the bag and in the car. But here's the kicker -- when my parents went in for the refund on an item they were promised over the phone, they accused them of making it up, then said never come back we don't want to deal with "people like you." Honestly never experienced anything like that. Unfortunately there aren't a ton of choices in a small town but give your business to one of the other gracious, hard working restaurant owners and wait staffs in Cashiers. I recommend Slab Town pizza, Whiteside Brewing company, and when it's back in business, Haps! read more

Never had the food. Been here for chips and salsa and queso and beer probably 20 times. The beer is cold. The chips and salsa and queso is outstanding. The chips are extra crunchy and the best I've ever had and the mild and spicy salsa are homemade incredible. Queso is nice too. Service is always friendly. Our favorite Mexican, not just in Cashiers, but everywhere! The grilled shrimp tacos (which aren't on the menu but they will fix for you) are the best I've ever had. And anything else you order will delight you. It's be remodeled recently and is a really pleasant atmosphere. And what to say about the waitstaff? The friendliest and most attentive we've found. Overrated. Two of us: late lunch, 1 order of quesadillas and 1 tostada, plus 1 margarita each. Quesadillas literally dripped fat/grease when picked up. Inedible. Tostada was better, but far from good. Margaritas were passable, but tiny. At least it was EXPENSIVE. Bill for this well below average snack was north of $50, before tip. Service? We had some, but like the food, it was poor. There aren't many places to eat in Cashiers, but all of them are better than this. read more

BEWARE THE EXTRA CHARGES - The food was pretty good BUT...watch out for the margs. Notably, the menu clearly says "$39 pitcher of margaritas with top shelf tequila OF YOUR CHOICE". I was shocked to see $160 for the one pitcher! I showed the manager the menu, she agreed it was confusing. She said the tequila we chose was more expensive, "that it was top shelf" (her words exactly) which I agreed and explained that our $39 pitcher per their own menu should NOT cost $160! She was disinterested in any discussion, seemed to agree the menu was misleading, but would not make any adjustments. So the "cheap Mexican night" was almost as expensive as our previous dinners at Winslow's and the Orchard! I will do my best to discourage any/all my Cashiers visiting friends to AVOID CHILI LOCO. I don't mind paying fair prices, but the wording is so shady, it makes me wonder if it's done on purpose. read more

Excellent addition to the restaurants of Cashiers. The chips were thicker than I was used to (I admit, I have no clue what authentic Mexican is), but hot and delicious. The salsa was good. White queso was yummy! Had the special fajitas with chicken, beef, and shrimp. I would have liked more green peppers in the mix. The beef was quite fatty, but once I cut a few pieces, it was very tender and delicious. The rice kinda lacked flavor, but the beans were pretty good. I even scooped some on my fajitas! Overall, an excellent restaurant! read more

We usually skip the two Mexican restaurants in Highlands to go to Chile Loco in Cashiers even though we live in Highlands. The food here is excellent, affordable and the staff is very welcoming. Today I had the grilled chicken guacamole salad. Delicious! Sophia had the chicken fajitas and thoroughly enjoyed it. The great thing about this restaurant is that they have lots of daily lunch specials 7 days a week. We have tried many of the dishes here and they all have been expertly prepared. The complementary chips and salsa are not greasy like other Mexican restaurants. The owners claim they serve "authentic" Mexican food and I believe they hit the mark. The interior is very colorful and festive. Don't be put off by the strip shopping center. There are two other very good restaurants here and it sits on the fringe of Cashiers. A combination of great food, attentive service, friendly atmosphere and fair prices earns Chile Loco 5 stars. read more

just now The enchiladas were average. The margaritas were extremely weak. The waitress at the table next to ours did not wear a mask. She also helped move some tables together in the center of the room for a large party, closer to our table . I asked if they could move it back a bit as there was about 6 feet on the other side. They moved it slightly back, but it could have been quite a bit further without a problem, and she gave me a dirty look for asking. I would not go back, even after Covid. read more

Delicious authentic Mexican food. Clean bright atmosphere.

The food was ok as expected from the reviews. Tortilla soup very salty. But other dishes were good and fresh. Beware of their math. Note that they do charge for the thick-style chips and salsa ($3.50) and will bring extra without you asking and will KEEP charging you. Somehow our two baskets added up to $10.50. Don't get me started about how they charge for their "top shelf" margaritas. Best to drink before you come. Trust us. read more

I have been coming here since they opened 10 years ago. We are always greeted with a big smile and great service. The placed seemed clean and nice when we walked in. As we sat down, we asked for chips and he told us it would cost $5. I have been to Mexican restaurants all over Florida and Georgia and North Carolina and have never had to pay for an order of chips as they are always complimentary. But nonetheless we still got the chips. The worst part is paying for the chips, and the chips being the worse tasting chips I've ever tasted, alongside a small bowl of canned salsa that was enough for maybe three chips. The server then proceeded to tell us we could add guacamole with it for an additional $3. This place a ripoff and nobody should come here. read more

Chile Loco was a real surprise -- we tried it last week based on strong reviews, and we enjoyed it a great deal. Having eaten my fair share of Mexican food in CA and AZ, Chile Loco is now in my top-five favorite restaurants. We tried the bean dip and nachos to share as starters. The bean dip had whole black beans (not refried), along with a light cheese and salsa...it was extremely good, not too heavy, and a great starter. The nachos (albeit not light inherently) were excellent as well. As for entrees, our table was fortunate with what we ordered. The fajitas were fresh and light, the burrito was very good, and the camarones a la diabla very good as well. We enjoyed the dinner enough to return a second time in a week :-) Highly recommend Chile Loco. read more

I walked in stood there trying to talk to the waiters for 20 min. Then 3 guys come in and before they can get thru the door they ask them how many people they have. At this point, I made the decision to exit the establishment and belt out "adios amigos". As a respectful and aged individual, I would like to apologize if the term amigos left out the women of the establishment. If they see my review, I would like to reiterate that they were also included in my adios. Namaste and shit read more
