Ashby has been a phenomenal resource to us. His services and expertise are top-notch. We were looking to refinance for awhile; thanks to Ashby's recommendations we timed it just right and received incredible rates. It's not easy dealing with lenders these days. Ashby was on point throughout the process to make our refi as hassle-free as possible. Would recommend Highlander Mortgage without hesitation. read more

Five stars from start to finish. This is the second time we have used Ashby to help set up our mortgage. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly and available. Ashby worked hard so that every stop was easy and understandable. We got a great rate, a great loan and a great house! Kudos, Ashby! read more

Ashby was very very nice person and very helpful during our home buying. He even came to my closing just to make sure everything went smoothly. When I bought my previous house, my mortgage broker did not even come to my closing. We definitely recommend Ashby for our friends. read more

We worked with Ashby at Highlander to secure a loan for our first home purchase. He not only got us the best rate we saw out of all our shopping around, he was a full-service helper throughout our house-buying process. He was always available, offered wise and not just self-serving counsel, and over-explained every part of the process and transactions. I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

Ashby helped me several times to refinance my loan and every time he made sure I get the best deal possible. Ashby always looked out for our interests throughout the process and made a complex process seem so simple :-) I highly recommend Ashby for his honesty, integrity and above all great customer service. read more

My husband and I recently sold our home and purchased a new one and it was basically all made possible because of Ashby. He was able to secure a loan that was hand-picked perfectly for our specific situation, with a great rate and lender credits at closing. We were thrilled to find Highlander Mortgage on yelp and their quality of service lived up to the rave reviews. Ashby is quick to respond, thorough, and really knows his stuff. He is extremely straightforward, which I have to admit I was initially a little thrown by, but by the end of the process I grew to appreciate and really like! All of my questions were answered and I felt like he really listened to and understood what I wanted and needed. I also felt like he was working in my best interest. For example, he applied for a loan in the amount of $1 more than we had asked for (literally $1) because it got us $500 more in lender credits at closing! He was happy to offer advice when asked, but I always felt like I had ultimate control over the final decisions. I wanted to be very involved in the entire process, but I believe that Ashby's services would accommodate any level of customer preference of involvement. I would highly recommend Ashby and his team at Highlander Mortgage and will definitely come back to them in the future with any mortgage needs. read more

Ashby and his team were fantastic to work with. They are extremely knowledgeable in how to navigate the confusing and tedious tasks associated with securing a mortgage. They were able to close in record time and my wife and I could not be more happy with the process. We have gotten compliments on our mortgage company from our real estate agent as well as our title company. We highly recommend Highlander Mortgage! read more

As first time homebuyers, my husband and I had no idea where to begin looking for a mortgage. Ashby did an amazing job explaining all of the terms and options available to us and got us an amazing interest rate for our home mortgage. From the start of our search - even after we closed! - Ashby was supportive and patient, answering all of our questions and helping us feel at ease. read more

As first time home buyers for a new construction, Ashby was extremely helpful! I would rate 6 stars if I could. He helped us beat any comparable rate by finding us a program that beat everyone by 0.50% (without paying for points). On top of that we got a lot of help through the process for everything from what documents we needed to get and tips and references all along the way, and he saved us a lot of money. (Also had good contacts for home insurance guys). Even when Ashby was out of town or on vacation Crystal was able to help us (who was also great)- and Ashby would always follow up with everything. Highlander was by far the best entity we worked with throughout the home buying experience. I would highly highly recommend Ashby as a mortgage lender and look forward to working with him again. It is always a joy when you find someone who will work hard on your behalf and enjoys what they do. read more

As a lot of people here have mentioned, you can't find a better broker than Ashby McDonald at Highlander. He's extremely professional but also very calming and friendly. I also felt like he was very honest with his opinion and guidance. The whole experience was the best part of what is often a difficult journey for a homebuyer. read more

I have completed three house purchases and two refinances with Ashby at Highlander Mortgage and I couldn't be happier. I have also recommended him to friends who were equally pleased with the results. Ashby handles everything you would expect from a broker and makes it as easy as possible for the buyer. I had previously used two other brokers, so, I have a reference of comparison. He is very friendly and great to work with. Another thing I like about Ashby is that he is a numbers guy at heart. Ashby will give you options and suggest which ones will work best for different situations. Since I like to know all the details, he has always worked them out with me so I felt confident in my decision. At my last closing the realtor said that she was so impressed with Ashby that she added him to her preferred list of brokers. After my last home purchase, I found out that the land behind my house was going up for sale and there was already an offer. This was after 6pm and since I wanted to make an offer on the property ASAP I left a message with Ashby. Within about an hour, my Realtor had received a pre-approval letter from Highlander Mortgage and I was able to make an offer that evening. Great service, great rates, always happy with the results. read more

Never thought a refinance could be pain-free. I went for a consultation to see if a refi was even doable and an hour later (about 6 p.m.; he stayed late), I was in the process of significantly lowering my interest rate with a new lender, thereby lowering my payments. ALSO saved money on my Homeowner's Insurance AND car insurance by going with Ashby's recommended Gooseneck. Of course it took a few weeks after that, with digital paperwork going back and forth, some phone calls, and some digging into my own (not perfect) records. Ashby was available, knowledgeable, and encouraging every step of the way. It almost seemed too easy, but all is well! Highly recommended. read more

Ashby McDonald of Highlander Mortgage could not have been more expert, hard working, creative, and devoted when it came to arranging for our home mortgage. He is the best in the business! He want out of his way to find just the right deal for us. He was organized with our information and helped get our information in order so that we could qualify. He even fixed a mistaken item on our credit report so that our credit score improved. His service truly went above and beyond. read more

Ashby is great! A friend from work has used Ashby when he bought his house and insisted I wouldn't find better rates or a better mortgage broker. I was skeptic but my co-worker was right. Ashby definitely had the best rates, and the final amount was less that the initial estimate. And his service was even better than the rates. He was extremely responsive with both calls, emails and txts. Ashby is incredibly knowledge on the process and was there to help with some caveats that came up. I will call Ashby again when I buy another house. read more

I was referred to Highlander Mortgage for a refinance through coworkers at my husband's work a few years ago. Having worked with other lenders in the past, I was so impressed by the transparency and customer service at this company. After comparing fees and quotes I can tell you that Ashby does provide exactly what he promises in a more than fair rate and great service. We had a small hurdle with our refi and several lenders told me they couldn't help, but Ashby was the only one to help us accomplish our goals. It was clear to me that he actually cared about helping us get through the process. This year we are purchasing a home in another state and although we couldn't use Highlander due to being out of state Ashby offered to consult with me on the local lender estimates we got. He saved me a ton of money and prevented me from using a lender that was completely ripping me off. I can say how thankful I was to have someone I trusted in the business to consult! If you are shopping for a mortgage or refi, I highly recommend that you check out this company first! read more
