Looking to get pre-approved for a loan so went shopping around for mortgage lenders. Found Highlander Mortgage highly rated on Yelp so reached out to them and two others on Feb 5th. The other two lenders got back to me right away. As of March 3rd, still have not heard back from Highlander Mortgage. So I don't think their high ratings accurately reflect their current level of service. Ashby was recommended to me by a trusted friend so I already knew that he was someone I could trust. I was not disappointed. I was pretty "green" so I had many questions about the entire process. Very pleased with Ashby. He's a really great guy and has always been very responsive either by by phone, email, and even text. He is persistent in a good way, detailed oriented, and knows what he's talking about. He'll explain stuff you might not understand if you ask and he stayed on top of me when I over looked something or if it looked like I was going to forget to get something taken care of by a specific time. I've done 2 mortgages with and referred him multiple times and will continue to keep him in the front of my Rolodex (to use a dated term). My last closing was an absolute nightmare, and Ashby handled it like a 'bawse' (like a Boss for you Baby Boomers / like a champ for you Octogenarians). We had to switch lenders mid-process due to some complications and Ashby was all over it like white on rice. Then the new appraiser screwed up THREE times and Ashby identified their(!) problems and really knew how to talk to the appraisers company to get things back on track. One estimate to Ashby's greatness (w.r.t. being a broker, he'd probably be a terrible ballerina) was a story he was telling my realtor at the closing table. The whole reason I needed a loan was I was moving out of my old home and converting it to a rental and moving into the new place. The lender calls up Ashby the Friday before our closing on Monday and demands a copy of a signed lease agreement for my old home. LOL_WAT.jpg? Less than 1 business day before??? They had never once said they needed this previously, my credit is great, my old home is very cheap so I could handle the payments even w/out renters no problem. There is no reason to go anywhere else. Highlander Mortgage is the best. Actually, you SHOULD go shop your mortgage around to get the best rate which is how I found Ashby in the first place. My co-worker told me to call Ashby when I started looking for a house, but I didn't listen at first. I had family in the mortgage business, so I felt bad not going with them. That was a HUGE mistake! I put an offer in on a house and started the mortgage process with my family. A week later I got the paperwork that showed a higher rate than I saw on Bankrate.com. I finally listened to my friend and called Ashby. Within 5 minutes I knew that I had to get out of my current deal and move my business to Highlander Mortgage. Ashby started moving quickly since the clock on my house was already ticking. Everything was so easy compared to what I had gone through with the previous company. We ended up getting everything done ahead of schedule. When bad weather caused the closing date to push out a day, there were no problems.
