Absolutely wonderful experience today at Highland Axe Throwing from start to finish. I reached out to them on social media to inquire about their league as I learned I had somewhat of a knack for throwing (compared to other things I do anyways haha). They gave me an email and told me to ask for Brian, and when I did he responded the same day and told me I should come in and introduce myself so we could chat. I was eager to throw again, so I scheduled for this Sunday and had let Brian know via email and he responded politely and in a friendly manner. When the boyfriend and I came in to throw, a woman with dark hair came over to check us in and get our drinks- a primarily alcohol-based selection. I asked about non-alcoholic options and she said coke or water before pausing and stating they also had sprite but it wasn't cold yet and wouldn't taste very good, so she had be reluctant to offer it (which I was thankful for). I got a Coke and he got a Sam Adams, and I mentioned my interaction with Brian and it seemed almost like she knew of our interaction and became even friendlier. She got Brian over who was awesome, he gave us some extra coaching for our second time and really worked with me to get a good fit on their lanes with their axes. He placed us near the league throwers as well, so we could observe and get to know them. After a little practice I felt right at home and was hitting my targets left and right! It was a great date night in addition to a therapeutic way to get some energy out on an otherwise lazy Sunday. Cool vibe, great staff, absolutely recommend. Although it's a little pricy (about $32.21 per person with taxes and fees), it's been enjoyable enough that I'm willing to pay that to throw and enjoy myself. Plus, what feels more empowering as a woman than being able to throw an axe well? It's pretty awesome. Come try it for yourself, I think it'd be hard to be disappointed doing something this cool with a staff this amazing.

My oh so loving husband knows I have a propensity to hurl things when I'm frustrated, so being the ingenious person he is.... Let's hurl some sharp AF axes at a target while we drink some beers! Great idea dear! Needless to say, it was just what was needed; a great night out away from it all the BS of the previous weeks stresses. Don't let the men in kilts intimidate you. (It's just a can of beer in those holsters.) They're gentlemen (and one lovely lady) who will not only teach you techniques on how to throw, but share lumpia recipes with you as well. (Lumpia are Filipno egg rolls if you haven't had the pleasure....I'm referring to Dave, the comedic Jason Momoa look alike.) Apologies, I digress Located on the second floor across from Treble Makes in the Grove, we wandered into Highland after Friday night dinner just to check things out. (Wretched parallel parking can be found ground level right out front. ) The owners, Brian and Rebecca are super nice and hospitable, so we decided to stay and throw down a little. After signing an online waiver stating it's my own fault if I chop my big toe off, we got into it right away. Not only do they sell beer and merchandise with their logo, but that night, they offered a selection of girl scout cookies, mmmmm. My kind of ax throwing joint! There are 12 bays seperated by wire fences to throw in, so no worries about your neighbor's blades flying past your nose. There are also laminated placards that give suggestions on different games to play and score keeping. If you're a newbie, like me, you're just trying to get the ax on the board instead of ricocheting in the opposite direction! So stop in to blow off some steam, grab a beer or two, and give some love to the cute as hell labradoodle puppy, Rey, while you're there. (Side note in reference to one of the other reviews, I myself am a person of color and I felt very welcomed here and NOT one bit as if I was being segregated. )

I've been to many places to do Axe Throwing and this is one that did not feel right to me. Again, it might be different for many people, but considering I'm a woman of color I felt like I stood out like a sore thumb and it being 2021 makes it upsetting. Don't get me wrong, the place is clean and beautifully aesthetic, however there was one employee that rubbed me off the wrong way and there was another employee who was pleasant enough to ask us if we had fun and if we needed anything. I'm upset I couldn't get the name, but the man (the first employee) that I mentioned previously asked us if we had an opened tab multiple times thinking my party and I are simply walking out without paying. Also, like I've said before it was all clean, but not tidy and up to date. The rubber floor on every isle of where you throw rises and it's extremely easy to trip and fall. Considering that this place is newly opened (2020) they might still need to do several changes and learn more on how to run a proper business that feels inviting rather than segregating people by color. Again, I do reviews to voice my opinion and share my outlook so do with this information what you please. Come and enjoy the axe throwing on your own accord, but you have been warned.

We visited highland this past weekend and had so much. Met the owner and she was so nice and the coach was great. We really had a great time and the owner even cheered me on as I actually hit the board. Fun place and the staff make it even better!!

Such a fun date night! The Saturday night we went it was packed! Had to wait to get started (prepaid reservations required) but we were able to stay and get our full hour. Our "trainer" Dave (Jason Momoa lookalike ) was amazing. Great music and bar. Would highly recommend.

Plenty of lanes to throw. Compete in a game or just have fun.

Addicted... Came in with reservations for my group of 4- signed the waiver on the website ahead of time. Entered immediately & a Coach came to introduce the safety rules and demonstrate how to throw. After some practice we started competing in some games of various degrees of difficulty. The music was fun & added to the experience. Nothing creates a long wait so everyone gets ample time but I do strongly suggest reserving two hours and not just one. We had so much fun we were reluctant to leave! Park & head to the second level of the building. Sign the waiver online to move quickly and make reservations. Wear closed toed shoes! BYOB, BYO-Kilt (nope, not a typo have fun with it!!); take home a shirt on your way out. Cash is great but they do have the ability for card transactions.

Just celebrated my 50th birthdat over the weekend at HIGHLAND AXE THROWING My wife set up a guys night only doing manly things. What is more manly than throwing a sharp axe? Not much. The entire staff, including the owners (Rebecca and Brian) were great! I hope I got their names right.. They set us up with a nice corner section of the place where we could just be men, have some cold brews, and throw axe... I will definitely be back! Tom

An absolutely wonderful time. My wife and I were looking to break up the monotony of the typical dinner and entertainment. Right away we were greeted by the owner who thanked us for coming. They instructed us on how to throw and the safety rules, additionally giving 1 on 1 coaching. Overall a very enjoyable experience, and we will definitely be coming back!!

Venue is very small, owner's act like they created the sport. Find a better place in Tampa. Don't waste your time.

We hung out after and played corn hole, got some food from the food truck, which was good, and played pool and played cards while listening to great live music. They have an awesome outdoor space with all sorts of different games and seating areas. From corn hole to UNO cards, Jenga, backgammon, etc. Definitely something for everyone! Everyone, and I mean everyone at Southern Axe House are all great folks! Great axe coaching, taught us all to throw until we were sticking them in no time. The owners daughter even helped our son's girlfriend on another throwing lane showing her how to throw the axe and even got her a lighter axe to make it easier as she was having a difficult time. We dove down from Inverness and it was for sure worth the 40 minute trip. We will DEFINITELY be going back! It was a great out-of-the-ordinary thing to do. For sure some place to consider taking guests that come to visit. Definitely an experience If you're looking for something different to do and want to hang out with some amazing people, take your friend and family and go to the Southern Axe House, you'll be glad you did!!
