It was a great experience. They were extremely short staffed, however our server was still on point and amazing. We were here with a group of 7. All of our orders were exactly how we requested. I was with some picky/dietary restricted people. The food was hot, delicious and the portions were super generous! Our beverages were consistently filled - we did have to ask for one person, but overall we didn't have to chase for service. My favorite item we had were the chips/queso dish. Sooo good. We did have to wait to be cashed out because they were short staff and our server was busy delivering food. The restaurant - huge, plenty of seating options for large groups. TV Screens everywhere. My fiance treated me to a night at JW Marriott as part of my Christmas gift on December 23rd. When we checked in, we were given a coupon that allowed us to get two free beers or glasses of houses wine from any of the bars. We decided to get a beer at High Velocity. The place has a casual feel with many TVs throughout, all of them displaying a game. The biggest TVs are above the bar, and they have ticker below them showing the scores of other games. The server greeted us soon after we were seated. We both ordered a hopadillo. The drinks came out shortly after that. The place seemed fun, so my fiance and I decided that we would come here for lunch the next day. The following day, we showed up shortly after 11. Once again, we were seated immediately. It is important to note at this point that these were special hours for the holiday. I looked up the hours, and it looks like they normally open at 5. The server once again greeted us shortly after we were seated. We ordered more Hopadillos to drink. I ordered the Extra Hot wings, and my fiance ordered the nachos. I am always skeptical when a restaurant says the food is spicy. I have seen too many restaurants that did not live up to the claim. I am happy to announce that High Velocity was able to back up their Extra Hot claim. My fiance also enjoyed her nachos. There is an area on the other side of the bar that has two golf simulators. For such a nice place the service was very slow and no one seemed to care. The bar drinks took forever to come out and then were very watered down like they had been sitting. We ordered food. It came out fairly quickly and was hot. Order the wings with two different sauces only got one of them right but the other one was still good. It can get a little crowded and loud especially on a Saturday night. Our server, Valeria, recommended the elote dip, and it was a hit! Cheesy dip with Hot Cheetos sprinkled on top definitely a great starter to share. I ordered the brisket mac and cheese. It was good but a little heavy for me. Others in our group got classic burgers and they were super juicy and fresh. My kid ordered the buffalo chicken mac, but it was a bit spicy for him. I'd say classic burger was my favorite. We were celebrating three birthdays (mine, my kid's, and a friend's), and they made it feel really special. We got delicious desserts. Great sports bar if you are in the TPC vicinity. Watched the World Cup and Olympics here as the amount of tvs to watch events is excellent. Food is very good and priced according to the JW Marriott hotel so expect to pay a little more. The hotel is very nice and is decorated during the holidays And very enjoyable just to walk around and then enjoy a drink. Hostess told us there was a 30 minute wait so the kitchen staff could catch up. That should've been my sign. The restaurant was less than half full. Most of the tables without people were full of dirty plates that needed to be bussed. Took 20 minutes to get drinks and another 10 to get apps. Wings were cold. Fry's were too. Brisket Mac and cheese was served in a room temperature skillet. The food must've all been sitting under a heat lamp until they were able to make my kids grilled cheese. That was the only food that was warm and edible. Asked to speak to the manager and she offered us 15% off. They were overwhelmed for a Saturday at 3 pm and less than half capacity. Really fun place to watch sports. TV's galore. I highly recommend taking a group and watching a sporting event here. They have a great bar selection, but check the prices of drinks. You can drink the same wine elsewhere for about $7 less a glass. There are drinks that are affordable, but it's easy to drop $100 here. The portions are big so it's fun to share different items. High Velocity is nestled within the sprawling Marriot Resort in Cibolo Valley, halfway between Stone Oak and Natural Bridge Caverns. The most striking feature of eating here are the stunning grounds and facilities. Just outside the front door of High Velocity is a beautiful flickering fire place with a broad view of the hilly vista. Stepping inside High Velocity the tone three-sixties, while the quality remains high. One continuous ten-foot-tall television hugs the hundred-yard length of the restaurant. Game three of the World Series played across most of the screens, interspersed with a few college football games. But though the aesthetic screamed sports bar, the crowd, not so much. We sat through two home runs without so much as a murmur. We were seated quickly, and attended to by a knowledgeable, friendly, accessible waiter who helped us with everything we needed, and otherwise disappeared into the background. The menu was simple with a four appetizers, and a dozen entrees. We were after "Cheeseburger." This was an $18 hamburger. But we're not after value, we're after best. Susan wanted some fried pickles, so we munched on those as an appetizer. Dinner was out quickly. The hamburger came on a clean, well composed plate. The star of the show here was clearly that top bun. It was light and buttery, and crisply toasted. The sesame seeds provided crunch and brought more flavor to the party than you'd expect. The bacon crunched like iceberg lettuce, giving way to the cheese draped patty. The patty was about as thick as my thumb, and dominated the burger. But the cheese--an aged cheddar--ended up doing most of the flavor work. While the patty was perfectly juicy without making a mess, it just didn't bring much to the flavor party. It wasn't highly seasoned, and the beef was entirely serviceable but no more. The veggies (shredded lettuce and onions, with a crisp slab of tomato) served as an effective light balance to the heavy meat and cheese. But the burger really fell apart (literally) with the bottom bun. While the top was toasted, the bottom bun had a thick mayo spread, which was ultimately more than the bun could handle. Within two bites it started going soggy, and it was falling apart before I was half done with the burger. The fries, if you care, were seasoned surprisingly well. I just realized I had not updated my review for High Velocity which sat at a 1 star after a particularly bad visit - however I remiss in not doing so as I have had several really great experiences since. Tonight was one such example - seated immediately, we had fantastic service from start to finish. It was lovely and seasonal and despite the hotel being packed due to an event and Christmas festivities, service was fast and on point. We stuck with appetizers and drinks - the peel and eat shrimp are delicious - super fresh with great zesty sauce. The kids enjoyed the loaded fries and the nachos are really good and plentiful with shredded lettuce as a nice topping which freshens them. The kids ended with a banana split sort of desert which in all honesty was enough for 4 with caramelized bananas , cookies and ice cream - pretty delicious. It was so much fun watching football with my buddy on a Sunday afternoon. The food was plentiful and delicious. I got the crispy chicken sandwich with fries and I made the sandwich Nashville style(Spicy). The piece of chicken was ginormous. The chicken was very flavorful and had a nice kick of spice. The beer selection was good not great. I wish that they had more beers available in tap. I was very pleased with my whole experience and I will be back there again to watch football soon. We went to dinner at High Velocity with a party of 6 and the wait was reasonable for a long weekend. The service was okay but the food was less than average; add the resort pricing to that and I left feeling like I was robbed. I tried the fish tacos and they were basically flavorless - thank goodness for some Cholula hot sauce on the table to add some spice. The chips were stale and tiny cup of salsa unremarkable. Others in the party ordered wings, tenders, and the southwest Cobb salad and the unanimous option was that we would never eat there again. I do not recommend this place and felt they were a bit on the racist side. First we go to the front desk and it was just two of us. This was about 8:45 pm. They said a 30 min wait but the bar is open seating. So we head to the bar because there were plenty of open seats. While walking to the bar we noticed there were a ton and I mean a ton of open tables scattered throughout the people dining. No they were not practicing social distancing. Nonetheless, we head to the bar and have a seat. So we are sitting and sitting and sitting and the bartender never acknowledged us to after about 12-15 min. Mind you the bar was not busy we had almost 1/2 of the bar to ourselves. She eventually acknowledge us, but another 8-10 min went past and she still never came down to even take or drink order. So there are two sided to the bar. I happen to notice a group of 4 people sit down and immediately the bartender approach and within seconds they had their drink orders. These for individuals happen to be Caucasian. We got up and left. I would never go to this place again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more
