It's also one of the easiest for parking -- if you can't park on the little lay-by by the Post Office itself, turn quick right before the Beehive roundabout and you'll be able to find somewhere that doesn't annoy the neighbours. In short, the owners do a great job here and deserve our support.

The couple who run it are wonderfully friendly and have made themselves an integral part of the local community. Opening times are posted clearly on the outside of the main window. Unfortunately, I have forgotten what they are! The only real problem here is that it is situated right on a traffic-light operated crossroads, with very little chance of safe parking anywhere close. Personally, I walk there, but some do park in the public carpark about 30 metres down Marsh House Lane.

Wigan Post Office is now located inside WHSmith on Standishgate in the town centre, now I usually…read morehate Post Offices which are located inside WHSmith stores which are becoming more and more common now, but this one was a rare example of it done reasonably well. The staff seemed friendly and happy to help, possibly down to how quiet it was due to the UK lockdown, but I still had to return something so visited here. The self-service machines are quick and easy to use, although the prospective screens between them could have been managed better, it gives very little room to balance parcels and then actually use the machine, adding more space between the two machines would have been a better idea if they are trying to become more COVID secure. I would have thought that given WHSmith is open until 5:30 on Saturday's, it would give a chance for the Post Office to open later but it doesn't... I find closing at 12:30 pm to be far too early. They are also closed on a Sunday, but this is pretty common. The overall area was spacious, clean and rather nice for a Post Office inside a WHSmith, but still it could be better. 3*

It doesn't seem to matter when you go in here - whether its pension day or a quiet day you could still be queueing up forever and they just don't seem to be bothered. Mind you, you can't blame them as their working conditions are dismall. It is such a shame as this would definately be a post office that would be shut down and we dont want our post offices closing - save the post offices!! A bonus is that you can get all your big things sorted here like your car tax and passport and they also offer the check and send service here. You can also get your foriegn currency here although it would be an idea to know yourself what you need for what country just in case. I suppose its okay and they are doing their best - it just doesn't seem to relate to what the post offices service used to be about.

The post office itself is modestly sized and stocks greetings cards, chocolate, stationary and scratchcards as well as offering all the usual post office services. Also noteworthy is the fact that they have a cash machine which doesn't charge you installed inside, this is a rarity in Breightmet as my nearest machine charges £1.75 per withdrawal. However, the machine is crammed in at the back and right next to a service counter so you may have to push your way through the queue for the counters. The staff are friendly and expedient and offer good customer service.

They have a good amount of counters, and also had a good amount of staff working meaning the queue seemed to go down pretty quickly, so the wait wasn't too bad. They didn't have any automated self-service postal machines, I would have liked to see them here as most Post Offices, even those within WHSmith locations do seem to have them. It's a shame to see Altrincham Post Office shut on Sunday's, even though the store it is located in does remain open (WHSmith), so that makes little sense in my opinion. 3* - Decent Post Office, facilities are minimal due to WHSmith location, but quick service and pretty good for a small town.

Where was I to get my Euros? What about that unfathomably large parcel I wanted to ship to somewhere silly? They might as well have trod upon my heart. And then I moved to the South Suburbs, and discovered this little gem en route to the Wilmslow Road section of Withington, approximately 30 seconds stroll from my new home, right next to Deco. How boss is that? I can pop along, do something boring and Post Officey, and then treat myself to some vinyl or a classic 80s movie on DVD. This Post Office is a good-un. Instead of simply being a small concession in a shop, as they so often are these days, Withington's tiny treat offers everything the quintessential suburban Post Office should. Random accessories like scarves, rolls of Munchies and those After Eight sweets, a tiny bit of pick n' mix, cards and stationery. Plus the people who run it are nice. Everyone comes here, from students to old folk (who usually arrive at the same time mid-afternoon), and it's housed in a quaint little building. I'm definitely a fan. Withington Post Office, please don't fall victim to this Post Office Plague that seems to be claiming so many victims. If I ever have to take a bus to post a letter, I'll cry.

The staff working are in Asda uniform as they operate the Post Office, but you can still get most the features as you would in a regular crown post office, something which has been fading rapidly within the past few years. The opening hours are fairly good, with the Post Office staying open until 6 pm daily, apart from Sunday when they're closed, as the main store is open I don't see why they remain closed on Sunday's and it would be nice for them to consider Sunday opening in the future. The inside of the Post Office feels pretty old, they have a large number of counters, but there never seems to be more than three or so in use, I think the most annoying part is they have protective screens between every counter, even ones which aren't in use and never will be, this means all it's doing is getting in the way and making it difficult to actually get to the counter and move about the Post Office. Again, it's a shame they haven't put in any newer facilities such as a ticketing system for queuing to avoid the dreadful barrier round and round style which this location and many others have, and they also don't have any self-serve posting machines (many other Post Offices have them now), even though there would certainly be enough room. 3* - OK, pretty good for a non-crown post office location, the staff seemed friendly and I was served quick.
