Ambiance is good. It was a Thursday night and we ate in the bar at a high top. Nobody else in the bar. Had to ask more than once for a club soda. Poor beer selection if you like IPAs. I got the Wisconsin cheesesteak. Was just ok. Nothing special. Truffle tator tots were very good though. Hubby got the chicken sandwich. Said it was only a 6 out of 10. We were really surprised when we ordered the bruschetta and were given an oil and balsamic vinegar to pour on top ourselves. When I drizzled the balsamic, I noticed several fruit flies floating inside the serving jar. It was honestly disgusting. When I told our server, she didn't really acknowledge it--no apology or concern--which made the whole experience even worse. One of my favorite restaurants period. Every time I come here it's a special experience with unique flavors that pack a punch. Recently I had a cranberry ginger mule with lime which was the perfect balanced tart and refreshing compliment with our food. We started with the Gilly Goat - which is my absolute fav! I love the roasted garlic, goat cheese and special blend of peppers and olive tapenade served with baguette slices. Just heavenly. I had the ahi tuna tacos with garlic tater tots for my main. Both were amazing! The tacos had edamame and cucumber which provided complementary texture with the tuna. Our waitress recommended some hot sauce which sent it over the top delicious. The garlic tater tots were unexpectedly amazing with roasted garlic crumbles. Yum! I love their seasonal menus as well. They always have an amazing range of fresh and innovative options. The vibe can range from casual to fancy it's up to you. There can sometimes be a wait but the downstairs bar is usually open while you wait. Always excellent service and clean facilities. High Rock Café is located in the downtown area of Wisconsin Dells. We easily found street parking which was free in the winter, but I can imagine parking is trickier during the busy season. We went for lunch on a Saturday and were quickly seated upstairs. I felt like the place had a funky, yet intimate setting. From our window on the second floor, we had a great view of downtown. The menu had some interesting choices. I had a portobello sandwich, and my husband had a pasta dish. Based on the smells and appearance of other guests' dishes, I had high hopes. But ultimately, the food was lackluster. I really wanted it to be better than it was. Maybe it was just what we ordered? Based on the atmosphere, I would return. Went in for a Sunday brunch based off of the old Sunday bunch menu on here and it's no longer served. That's fine, we decided to try their lunch/ dinner that's served all day. It's very much a full bar downstairs but I'm not sure of the upstairs since our part was unable to climb the stairs. Still decorated beautifully. We had a variety of foods from the Mac and cheese, potstickers to the burgers. Burgers were juicy cooked beautifully and everything came on the side. The burgers had to be more than a quarter lb. Fries were excellent as were the garlic tots- highly recommend these. The potstickers were great, tender and crisp in the right places. Mac and cheese was ok, I wouldn't say it was out standing but still good however the breadstick with it was very bland and on the burnt side. I've been here a handful of time (including my bachelorette party) and I'm not sure I've ever left a Yelp review. My daughter and I were in the dells on a Thursday. At 6 pm we walked right in and had no problem getting a seat. The waiter (while lacking in personality) was prompt and efficient. We had a kids Mac n cheese (nothing fancy there) and the Waldorf salad. I don't normally order a salad for dinner but this one was huge! The chicken was cooked well and the salad had a lot of flavor. Before I came to Wisconsin Dells I googled where to go for a dinner. There were just a few places that were rated as a wanted. High rock cafe was one of them. We stopped by and decided to give them a try. We were sitted right away, without any waiting time. Everyone seems so kind. Our waitress looked a little bit lost, but doesn't matter. Ordered two virgin cocktails - humu humu nuku nuku apua that were delicious, and two beers. For appetizers we got gilly goat and fish tacos. Gilly goat was sooo good, but since i am not big fan of taco's, I didn't like them that much. I also ordered pan-asian pork chop and my partner took a bruschetta chicken. Pros: on a fairly busy night, it didn't take too long to get a table, about 10 min. The check was only $50 for three people. Cons: we were seated directly below a fan upstairs, and upon looking around, there were fans everywhere so it didn't pay to move seats. Temperature was cool and service was a bit slow. The food was fine but rather bland. Two of us got the fish fry. Mine was beer batter and needed that tartar sauce. My friend got panko breaded, did a taste test, and said it was better than mine. I came here for lunch with my mom today while we took a day trip to The Dells. We arrived at about 11:30, and the restaurant was pretty busy (but still immediate seating). We were seated upstairs which had a really nice view of the goings on if the street below. Our server came out right away, and was super friendly. We ordered drinks and our meal at that time. I don't remember the name of my cocktail, but it was a fruity, champagne cocktail and tasted really nice. I did find the cocktail menu to be a little bit pricey, but not overly so. I really appreciated the fact that they also offer an extensive "Mocktails" menu. My mom got an NA Watermelon margarita thing that she loved! Not many restaurants in Wisconsin consider the non-drinker like this, so props! Our food arrived SUPER quickly! My mom and I both ordered the Alpine Grilled cheese, which is a grilled cheese with goat cheese and fig jam (and maybe one other kind of cheese,) and fries. The sandwich was really good, a little messy with the jam, but definitely a must order if you like goat cheese. The fries were next level good!!! The were crispy outside and fluffy inside and you could really taste the sea salt and pepper! These are among the best fries I've ever eaten. Only criticisms are we found it to be quite cold at our seat (upstairs and by the window). I actually put my coat back on at one point. Stopped in for the fish fry Friday night. We both had fried haddock. Wifey had the baked potato and I had garlic mashed potatoes. We ordered a side of mixed vegetables to share. Fish was cooked to perfection, nicely breaded and a generous two piece serving. Meals came with a red cabbage coke slaw dressed with a light vinaigrette and a small homemade fritter. The meal was simple, delicious and nicely presented. For dessert we shared the warm brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Tiffany was our server. She was friendly, helpful with choices and recommendations and very attentive to our needs. I highly recommend without any reservations. I might add we sat upstairs in the front window area which gave us a nice street view and allowed for people watching. You can't miss at the High Rick Cafe. My mom and I live in the Twin Cities, and we have family in Chicago and in Rhinelander, so we got the idea to all drive to Wisconsin Dells just to meet up for lunch. This was the restaurant where we met, and we are very likely to return to this restaurant for the same purposes in the future, which should tell you something. This eatery on the main drag in the downtown area has a bar and a good amount of seating options across two floors and a patio area. They promise a modern and unique approach to their cuisine, suggesting that they are playful and creative with their recipes. I think they should feel they have accomplished this; our table represented a good range between standard macaroni & cheese and a chicken sandwich that was hard for my taste buds to fully figure out. Most of what we ordered received high marks, notably the mac & cheese, the potstickers, and the Plant Power Plate. The latter dish is more of a superstar than you'd think, with its cubes of cheesy fried polenta that taste awesome. The garlic tater tots were also appreciated by all, and my easy-to-please uncle was indeed pleased with his fish tacos. I wish I liked my Fire Bird chicken sandwich a bit more, but I appreciate that it's inventive. The service was outstanding. We spoke to a number of staff during our time here and the professionalism was off the charts. I want to come back and try some of their other offerings, like that thing that sounds like meat loaf stuffed with cheese; I'm kind of surprised I didn't order that the first time. Was looking for an aesthetic place to eat in the Dells which is actually very hard but High Rock Cafe was exactly what I was looking for I'm glad I found it on Yelp. Super cute inside here and they have fun and healthy options for food not just the typical boring American food you see everywhere else in the area. We ordered the truffle shuffle, loaded potato soup, side salad, Harper Pasta and bruschetta chicken. All were very good large portion sizes enough to make you full definitely. We ordered the Bruschetta and ahi tuna to start with and had the steak Julia for the main course and finished off with the Kit Kat dessert. All a must try! We did miss one little detail about the restaurant's Caesar salad... I blindly ordered it as we were used to it being the traditional way, but it turned out that it was prepared with blue cheese dressing which I absolutely dislike. I mentioned it to our server and he removed the plate as we weren't going to eat it. I would maybe expect that the restaurant points out the difference with a quick comment at the time of ordering perhaps? I really hate doing this (truly look at my Yelp, I only come here to let people know when I had a great experience) Pros: if you like ahi tuna, get it. It was delicious and their cucumber salad was super unique. Also, our waitress could not have been any sweeter. Cons: I ordered a watermelon and mint spritzer off their "mocktail menu" -- it was basically a kiddie cocktail with some mint floating around. After a couple sips I told the waiter it was too sweet and sent it back, asking for the $7 kiddie cocktail to be taken off the bill. She came back and told me her manager said "watermelon is supposed to be sweet, he's not taking it off". Me and my family eat out all the time. I've literally never ever heard of a manager not removing something off of a bill that wasn't consumed. It's a real shame, I had just left a 5 star review for the impeccable service we had received at Del-Bar the night before. While their food was good, we'll likely be heading back to del bar next time for that reason alone. Experience is sometimes more important than the food. I came here on the recommendation of someone who lives in town. Said it was her favorite restaurant. I asked for a place that was local and served fresh locally sourced food. I ordered the pineappletini special drink. Didn't much taste like pineapple, but mostly of vodka. Then I ordered the new special "old fashioned yard bird" a fried chicken sandwich with cheese, dunked in blackberry brandy sauce. When it came out I was surprised that the chicken was evenly breaded. There was no bacon (my bad for not pointing it out to the waitress, she was lovely as was the hostess). I also noticed the lack of sauce. When I bit into the sandwich it was dry, and I noticed it was a formed chicken patty. I was disappointed. It was dry, and not flavorful. I couldn't taste the blackberry brandy sauce. It could have used more sauce. The sauce on its own was delicious. I also had the Apple blonde brownie, which was delicious but the ice cream had an "old" and funky taste to it. We dined in for our Anniversary and we're not disappointed! I had the Cozumel crusted ribeye steak which was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Melt in your mouth! Our server was friendly and helpful and so so kind enough to take many many pics for us to to document our evening. I appreciated her suggestion to put the herb sauce and corn on the side of the steak because I enjoyed dipping to have a little with each bite. My wife had the Harper pasta and enjoyed that as well, very flavorful if you like blue cheese. We tried the Gilly goat appetizer and it was good if you like olives. A tourists traps that's why they didn't care as they knew it only going go be business for a few months in the summer. Definitely a great place to visit when in the Dells for breakfast or lunch. We found it on yelp and it did not disappoint. First and most of all, the interior design is simply stunning! The combination of handmade fork chandelier with creative blinds that look like sails and make you feel like you are out in the sea with your own private chef, is out of this world! The menu is quite pleasing and the prices, for the most part, are ok, except for espresso drinks. I had a $6 cappuccino. No, not the venti Starbucks size, just regular. It was not worth $6 for the size and taste. I ordered the shrimp Benedict and wanted to love it, but somehow, did not quite. I ordered it without bacon, but still got it with bacon. As you can see, I still rate my experience as a five star. Again, the atmosphere comped for that. Bonus points: we were not required to wear masks. Visited in early July 2020. read more

Negative: The sliced Chicken Breast in the Caesar Salad and the Harper Pasta was clearly prepackaged from a food service provider, very overcooked, dry and lacking any flavor. The Friday Fish special (grilled) had only a small portion of fish (maybe 4oz), which is not enough for the price or an entree portion. The menu sounded delicious in its design, but the quality of the ingredients was lacking. Definitely won't go again and could not recommend. read more
