So after posting this review, and calling multiple times to get someone here to hook us back onto our Google Fiber WiFi, we had a few visits from HiFi Buy techs, and FINALLY Gary came here, spent hours checking EVERYTHING and found an old piece of hardware that was mucking everything up. We now have fantastic WiFi speeds, and the coordination of audio and visual components in our house are working great. Thank you, HiFi Buys for getting our systems back online. My experience with this company has been, the only word to describe it, bizarre. The level of frustration and amount of run around I have been getting is nothing short of maddening. In short, I was working with a very nice salesperson starting back in January. Landon was patient, very attentive and available. Part of the problem, in my experience, is the fact that the business runs 100% on commission. So, at times when my salesperson was not available, I could get no one else to step in and help. One time I was in the story waiting for nearly 30-40 minutes since the sales rep was with another customer and no one else in the store was able or willing to help me. I was there to pick up audio cabling for a home improvement job I was doing at my home. As part of the home improvement, I purchased nearly $2500 of equipment - all quality equipment so no issue there. I also was looking at an 83 inch TV to purchase and a custom HDMI cable. The cable was a custom build based on the length I needed. When the cable arrived, I had only a day or two to install it as the drywall was set to be installed. I called the store and asked if they could overnight the cable to me (I live about 40 minutes north). Well, since only my sales rep could do anything at all on the account, the person who I spoke to and asked to do this, left the request as a message to the sales person. Unfortunately, the sales person was on vacation. I had to call him to find out it was not sent and that the company would charge me $14 to ship it but that it would take 2-3 days. Since I no longer had the 2 day lead time, I had to drive to pick it up. When I got there, I asked the person who I initially spoke with why he did not simply ship it the 3 days or so prior when I called. He said only the salespeople can handled this. Then, the lady at the counter relayed to me, unsolicited, that she was told I was too cheap to spend $14 to ship the (nearly $600) HDMI cable. Having already spent $2500, this was just a silly and unprofessional thing to say. It was at this time that I asked the store manager to cancel a TV I had ordered. The store manager was actually very nice and very understanding and agreed to cancel the order. The order was not a "special order" and, if you read the policy on the website, was fully eligible for the refund. If I had ever taken possession of the TV (I had not) then there may be a restocking fee involved but that was not the case. Fast forward three or four months later, I come to find out that the store manager never processed the requested cancellation. In the meantime, my salesperson quit (good for him) to get a much better opportunity and I was having some challenges getting anyone to return my call to discuss the TV. Fortunately, a wonderful guy named Dustin did call me back and apologized for the experience and told me he would process the refund. He was very empathic and wanted to make it right. I sent a confirming email and was told to wait about 3 days for the refund to be processed. I sent another request for status about a week later as I had heard nothing. I still got no reply to the email so called Dustin. Again, very nice man but he told me that someone else processes refunds - it was out of his hands. This seemed odd as he is the manager. I was told that Stacey was in charge of processing refunds. Fair enough. I called to speak to Stacey leaving 2-3 messages. I also followed up with some emails. All I needed was for her to call me back and discuss this. Instead, I was sent what appeared to be stock email responses. The store's position now is that the request for the refund is too late and that I would need to dispute this with my credit card company. I again asked for someone to call me to walk me through this process and to get some of the details -- what date did they charge me and what exact amount. To date, they have refused to respond to any messages or email and have send me a final email saying they have "decided to terminate our relationship" and now say they will not refund my money. Keep in mind, I have never laid eyes on the TV, do not have it, was told by the manager he would handle (based on this I bought another TV as the first one no longer met my needs) it. I need some details on that transaction and also some assistance on the other products I purchased but this company's position is that they have unilaterally terminated the relationship and, I presume, they intend to keep my money. I now have to file complaints with the Consumer Affairs in the state of TN and may even need to retain a lawyer. Absolutely bizarre experience. In the past I have purchased Wilson Audio and D'Agostino products so am used to dealing with higher end distributers and never experienced anything like this at all. I do think those extremely reputable brands need to be aware of how this company treats customers. I rarely publish negative reviews, but potential customers need to be aware. read more

Bought an Anthem receiver($3,000), had problems, still have problems. The unit won't switch video sources consistently and occasionally starts volume at 100% ! They offered no help, wouldn't let me return it. Just moved back to Nashville, this was a great business 20 years ago. I'm buying my new theater out of town. Car audio installation can be tricky, and to get a finished product that looks perfect is rare, but these guys can do it. I turned my BMW 1 series over to Lee for a custom install of a double din unit where a single din was the original equipment. They spent 8 hours on the installation of an Alpine CarPlay unit complete with back up camera, and at the end of the day I couldn't be happier. I love the unit, love the look of the installation, and appreciate the time and effort that went into it. These guys are A+ Most of the associates REALLY know their stuff which makes it helpful for someone like me who comes with a lot of questions. On top of that, while their sticker prices ARE high (usually retail) they have never had a problem giving me anywhere from 20-50% off of ANYTHING I've bought their (speakers, receivers, headphones, subwoofers, cables you name it) I see a lot of reviews on here comparing their prices to places like Best Buy. I have never walked out of this place paying nearly as much as I would for the same product at Best Buy. In fact, besides TVs and car stereo stuff(which I don't care for) most of the stuff these guys carry is much higher quality than what you see at Best Buy, and you never pay sticker price if you're nice. I got a pair of B&W 683s, and HTM61 and ASW608 for $750 off and the same speakers at Magnolia would have cost me $2940 since they sell at sticker. The guys here at Hifi Buys WANT your business and are eager to please and know how to keep people coming back. I also got a P5 promo pack for $150 and a P7 pair for $300, you CAN'T find those prices for these things brand new. Not on ebay, not anywhere. My only request would be some more realistically priced audio cables. Even when discounting the Audioquest cables, they are still a little absurd in price. Also, it would be helpful if they carried some DACs in store, but they do let you order Rega equipment through them at great prices. I was looking for a speaker upgrade for my 2018 Camry, I stopped in a few different shops close to home and they just didn't feel right for me. I knew of Hi Fi Buys from when I was in my 20's, trust me a long time ago. So I drove to south Nashville where I grew up, stopped in Hi Fi Buys and was greeted by the car stereo professional, Scott Comiskey. What a great guy, Im telling you this guy has been in the business for years and he was so awesome working with. I read someones review how they push JL Audio, not the case at all. Scott took me into their car stereo room and showed me several different setups and listened to the difference. I decided on the Alpine R series with an Alpine 5 channel amp and a JL Audio sub woofer. What a awesome sound I ended up with, incredible sound over what the stock speakers had. Scott then worked up a date for the install, told me everything about the install. He suggested the dynamat for the doors to help with sound deadening so you don't lose sound thru the doors, this is a must for premium sound. The technicians at Hi Fi Buys are long time employees and they know their stuff. Some of the shops I stopped at to get a feel on where I wanted to spend my money, I wouldn't want inside my car washing windows, much less trying to install stereo equipment. Bottom line, if you want a premium, top notch sound system installed in anything you drive. Go see Scott Comiskey. When you try and save a few dollars by going to some half ass sound shop, you most likely will be disappointed with the lack of service or installation. CAR AUDIO BEWARE! I had them install a complete system in my Corvette and Jeep in February/March. The Corvette system was almost $3,000 and is fine. The Jeep was $4,300 and sucks! I repeatedly told Lee Dobson what I wanted out of the Jeep system...repeatedly! He assured me that the recommended system would deliver. It didn't. First off, Hi Fi Buys had the Jeep 7 1/2 working days. When I voiced my displeasure to Mr. Dobson he replied "you know we run a tight schedule here." Well that's not my problem. It's very evident he over books installs and then holds your automobile hostage. Then when I picked my Jeep up he asked me to come back in a week to show me how to navigate and fine tune my system. At that point I let him know I'd be taking this $4,300 system elsewhere to get it up to my expectations. He then wanted to sell me the components I wanted. What nerve! I've been a customer of Hi Fi Buys since the 80s. After dealing with this guy I will never walk back into that business again. Btw..since February I spent close to $9,000 there. Yep, $9,000! I trusted Lee Dobson. That was my mistake. He's a salesman first. I asked probing questions when he didn't want me to buy anything but JL Audio components and found out that when they buy a certain dollar amount of any particular brand they get them at a reduced cost thus raising their profit margin. I fell victim to this practice. Hi Fi Buys car stereo department didn't have any other brand to listen to in their listening rooms. Now I know why. Before you go there do your research. Google up car stereo in Nashville and you'll find several other places with great reviews and I promise you more of a variety of speakers and components to listen to. Since this debocal I've bought a new pre amp and DAC for my home stereo system but not from Hi Fi Buys. Typically I would have given them my business but not anymore. Their home theater and stereo salesmen and products are top shelf but I can't walk into that place knowing Mr. Dobson is there...which makes my blood boil! Hi Fi Buys cost me a lot of money and I don't appreciate one bit. You know..sometimes a business can be judged not only by the good reviews but by the poor ones and the nature of the deal. I truly believe they believed if they priced me what I really wanted that I may not have done the deal so Mr. Dobson sold me less than I wanted just to do the deal. That's the only thing that makes sense. But wait...there's more. When we talked about my system I adamantly stated I wanted the newest and best Alpine head unit installed. Between the time I put down the initial and mandatory $2,300 (non refundable btw) and the date of the install (approximately 3 weeks later) I called Lee twice inquiring about the head unit. On both occasions I was told he was awaiting a call from the Alpine rep and didn't have any information to pass on. Well guess what? When I picked up my Jeep low and behold the Alpine unit is one that came out in 2016! Just so you understand, I am a blue collar worker. I have been all of my life. The amount of money I've spent may mislead you. I've just worked hard and saved to be able to recently buy the Corvette and Jeep for my personal retirement gift. That's what ticks me off even more. I called the day before to get info on a RF Universal remote. The guy said he would get some info together and call me back in one hour. He never did so I called back again and still no call back. I went to the store and was basically called a liar because the rep didn't believe I purchased my receiver elsewhere for a better price. "No that can't be true I don't believe you.". Then he asked if I was going to program the remote. I said no, I have a professional to do it. He looked flabbergasted, we are the preferred programmers. Who do you have that can do it? He was rude and I will not purchase anything from that store. Lastly, they post prices on the items that are not really the prices to make it look like you are getting a good deal. Their staff are knowledgeable about the equipment they sell and are easy to deal with. Their equipment prices are in line with most other audiophile retailers around the country, though accessory items like cables are not a bargain. They've always given me great service and even helped me track down a replacement tube for my McIntosh amp on a late Saturday afternoon. That's the type of service that has made me a fan. read more

Went to Best Buy and loaded up on absolutely everything and half the stuff ended up not working together. Took some of it back and went into Hifi Buys. Their prices were better than Best Buy and walked me through a number of options and price points for speakers for my living room. They also scheduled a service call and came out to the house, mounted the TV, installed speakers, hooked up all 4 of my different components and set up a brand new universal remote that controls everything and is incredibly user friendly. I've been a Home Theater enthusiast since 1993. I started like most people at a big box retailer shopping price and upgrading as components became obsolete. ( which was all of the time ). Then I stopped in HiFi Buys Nashville and spoke with the sales staff who introduced me to components that last much longer, sound and work much better, work all of the time, and if I decide to upgrade the resale price is very high. If I were to do it all over again I would rethink my financial strategy and shop sales events at HiFI Buys at first to get going and then buy a piece at a time. Overall its cheaper to buy a more expensive item up front and keep it compared to a cheaper item and deal with problems and frequent replacement. Don't get me wrong. Big box - price only stores have their place, but some people ( like the previous reviewer ) don't understand business models and planned obsolescence. read more

I have a 2007 Toyota Sequoia that I have thought of trading many times, but always drive away from the dealership thinking I really like this vehicle except it needed the ICE updated and needed a backup camera as you cannot see anything behind you that's below 4ft. I had taken it to a couple of shops through the years and felt like I knew more than the salesperson so I didn't upgrade. HiFi Buys and Lee are the exception. Lee laid out different options based on price point and knew the connections, etc. required for MY vehicle, not just a generic install. He was excited about making the change from the stock system and his energy is contagious. Great guy, great company, and a great install! I was looking for a home theater system. I had shopped Best Buy, Electronic Express, HH Gregg, etc... and, after seeing their website, I decided to stop in Hi Fi Buys. I'm very glad I did. The sales associate I spoke with was very knowledgeable (he'd been there over 12 years) attentive and was intent on meeting my wants while also keeping my budget in mind. I found they were very competitive pricewise and had better quality than any others. I LOVE the separated, isolated rooms so I could listen to different systems without a lot of other noise. Just walked in there with $10,000 in cash, yes $10,000 actually fits in a wallet, tightly and doesn't close right but does fit. Sold a boat and hadn't go to the bank yet. I had called the day before and told the guy I would be there between 11-11:30 as I Have just a few month old baby so it takes a little more time sometimes. I walk in, nobody looks at me, Im 6'5" 300lbs. So hard to miss me. Finally I ask where that said saleperson is and they say he left lol. Wow. Then the guy who asked me say there awkwardly and then reluctantly ask " I mean can I show u something?". No dipshit I just came here to say hi. I then tell the guy my budget $3000 and he looks pissed at that price, he then shows me the speakers he had only to not even know the size of the woofer in them. Funny because I just heard about them the day before and yet this guy is telling me how good they are and yet doesn't know the size of any of the speakers in the box. He the basically said we have another pair but made it like I couldn't afford them, I then told him I had a hook up on those and that I could but that I was impatient and didn't wanna wait for those that I was hear to buy something HERE and TODAY. He took me back in the room and started to demo the speakers, I then asked if I should sit in the middle of the room and he looked at me like WHY, which I basically said u have to sit in the middle of the room to get the true effect of 5.1 as sitting by the tears does nothing. He then looked at me like I was crazy and said "are u not impressed?". NO I'm not I told him, and he just kinda shook his head like I was nuts. I then just walked out. I walked around hoping someone else would maybe help me but to no avail. When I finally walked out not one person say thanks for coming, by, or have a good day. I finally called the manager as I NEVER DO THAT, and he just said sorry, I'll talk to him and let me know if I could do anything for u in the future........ I basically laid out a red carpet to my wallet telling him I was impatient, and ready to buy TODAY and ANY good sales person knows how to up sale. I used to work part time at an electronics store on my days off from my real job just because o loved them. I have had people walk in looking for a pair of headphones and leave with $4500 worth of merchandise. I now own my own company and have trained many a people how to sale and this was just awful. I'm a dude that had all the cash and would have been EASILY be talked out of more cash for this system. I also told the guy I just sold my $9200 tv and was looking for a bigger one, which I could have financed so the sale could have been much bigger. This is the 3rd time I have been there and I can tell u only ONE guy has ever talked to me and he has been there since the opening I think but he wasn't there today but they have always made me feel for the most part like I was wasting their time and a friend who also just spent 14,000 there last year said he would go back and wish he had given his money to someone else.
