Hierbibuena is a healthy restaurant with suppliers that are much much better than the suppliers of other organic/natural restaurants in Buenos Aires. If you are here to treasure all pure locally ingredients, It really matters that those all pure local ingredients be as wonderful as advertised. At other good for you Argentine places, the materials are what the materials are. HERE the raw materials are amazing. * * * How do they get superior raw ingredients to Hierbabuena? There is little doubt in my mind that the owner has very specific arrangements With very specific growers. Those "deals" are life and death for what Hierbabuena wants to do. * * * To see what I am talking about, Order the Greek Yogurt. The Yogurt is yogurt. Lots of rival places can match them on the yogurt. What will change your world and open up your eyes is the fruit. What will also change your world and open up your eyes are the nuts. This is the first time in my life I have had a completely fresh almond. An almond in a bag in a store, an almond in a bin or an almond in a tin can not match the flavor of an almond that is fresh from the field. I tasted those almonds and was amazed. I did not know almonds could be like that. "Red fruits" - a combination of raspberries, currants, blueberries and other berries that you can imagine - is an Argentine staple. They are generic red compote elsewhere. They are completely stellar here. And notably, every single type of berry in the "red fruits" tastes completely different. I never knew what each new spoonful was going to taste like. Strawberries were absolutely sensational. In North America, we have ways of getting fresh strawberries - although we also know what dead supermarket strawberries are like. These were as good as North American fresh from the field strawberries ... But those strawberries were in such good company. Ever had pumpkin seeds that tasted like anything? Guess what happens when you get them fresh. * * * Two other notes. a) They also bake at Hierbibuena. This is health food baking and the desserts are not sweet. BUT The desserts are both light and filling. (You can try to figure out how they pull that one off.) They are not sodden - which is what most dismal health food desserts are like. More importantly, they have tastes that sneak up on you. I had their version of an alfajore (stuffed big cookie) that was the size of a small dinner plate, as thin as three nickels, was made of cacao, but had no cacao taste (by design) ... and had a mysterious thin layer of brown paste inside. Usually an alfajore has dulce de leche. This brown paste was sesame peanut paste. The layer was no more than two millimeters thick. You only got sesame peanut taste in about 1/4 of your bites. But those 1/4 of the bites were absolutely sensational. The cookie was meant to fill your stomach, be light and not be overwhelming. It was meant to take a back seat to your coffee. On that plan, it was perfectly executed. It was the best breakfast cookie I have had in Buenos Aires. b) The place is gorgeous. Inside is all early twentieth century green tilework. Outside is a wide boulevard, cafe seating, shady trees, and 1920's granite and wrought iron historical architecture. For sheer picturesqueness, you can not beat a Hierbabuena breakfast. * * * Good looks, good baking, amazing ingredients and it is all good for you too! The perfect way to start a day! read more

First, the food was delicious and out of the ordinary. We were thrilled to stumble on a place that is vegetable-forward and adventurous. We shared a green smoothie (excellent) and an avocado and chicken salad sandwich (generous, messy, rich). They brought us each a cup of delicious gazpacho and some bread, no charge. We liked the informal ambiance. Service was fine and friendly. Food was made to order, clearly. By Argentine standards we found the restaurant a bit pricey for the kind of informal, organic place it is. But we would happily go there again and explore their menu. read more

There's something to be said for a place that is stylistically immaculate in both its decor and menu items. I've never heard of half the inventions on the menu (avocado gnocchi? yerba mate juice?) but the ones I've tried --and I've tried a lot-- are delicious and reach a depth in their flavors that is otherwise hard to find off the parrilla. Plan to stay a while when you come. It's not a grab-and-go kind of place (although there's a bakery next door if you do prefer that option). The decor as I mentioned before, is amazing. Mixed textures, painted walls, shelves filled with trinkets slapped with the restaurant's logo. All in all, a magical place for anyone who appreciates beauty in all forms and flavors. read more

The best place to enjoy healty and tasty food in BA in my opinion. Wide range of different dishes both for lunch and dinner. They make a lot of juices, smoothies etc. One of the better places for juice/smoothies I have tried, ever. A bit expensive maybe, but worth the money. Their portions are huge normally :) But one thing is annoying when you get the check. They recommend 10% tips. When can restaurants/bares or who ever who runs a business understand that tips is not something you should recommend to people to give. Place is a hidden gem --- Great for vegetarians. They have a tomato appetizer dish that might be the best thing I've ever eaten. I would love to get one shipped over to me. Only issue we had is that my fiance got sick from one of the veggie juices. Think it was bad luck, but would be 5 out of 5 stars if the juice didn't get us sick. They also have non-veg options. I came on a Saturday around 1pm and was seated immediately. There's outdoor and indoor seating. I started with a latte and they had two vegan milk options. I had the vegan sushi rolls and vegan quesadilla. I could barley finish the quesadilla after the rolls, but when you have the option to get a vegan quesadilla you go for it! Delicious! The place is pretty pricey, but they give you a lot of food for your money. We originally wanted to do a brunch here; however, the price was a little too steep for us. We ended up getting lunch instead, which was outstanding. The ambiance of the cafe & location deep in San Telmo is the perfect escape from the rest of the city. They are doing a lot here with fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations that you often don't see in Buenos Aires. Don't miss their breads and bake goods either. A decent restaurant that pretty much only serve vegan food. They also offer all kinds of green detox smoothies/drinks. Definitely a restaurant that serves health conscious food. I would normally give a higher rating but I'm not a huge vegan food lover and the taste was a bit strong for me to give an average rating. However I must say that the starter dish (pancake serve with a pink color sauce) was very delicious. I ordered a pasta served with matcha and vegetables. I didn't quite like the dish because the sauce was too creamy and too sour. The rest are okay. The drink was very nice though and has really good green vegetable ingredient. read more

I read about Hierbabuena in the Pick Up the Fork blog, who emphasized that it was vegetarian friendly. Having two vegetarian friends in town for a visit, we decided to check it out for lunch on a week day. Make a reservation online if you can, because the place is tiny and fills up fast. We were 15 minutes late for our 1pm reservation on Thursday and they had already seated our table (understandable) but luckily there were a few tables outside still empty. I ordered from the 90 peso menu (99 if you dont use cash) and it was incredible. Comes with a generously sized bottle of fresh squeezed raspberry lemonade instead of the standard water or soda. The vegetable soup was delicious and fresh, and the main course, a fish dish with roasted squash, tomatoes and other fresh vegetables, was amazing. Even the bread and buttery spread (not sure what it was...maybe even cashew butter?) set out on the table before the food came was delicious. Our one complaint was that one of us ordered the fig guacamole with chips, but the chips were obviously from a bag, not house made, and they were pretty sub-par, broken and a little oversalty. A restaurant like Hierbabuena which seems to take pride in everything it serves should also hold its chips to the same standards or just not serve them at all. We would have been happier for some toasted bread instead. Besides that, a great meal. We'll be going back for sure. read more

There may be delicious things on the menu, but I made the mistake of ordering the mushroom vegi burger. It was maybe one of the yuckiest things I have ever tried to eat. The burger was a strange mushy texture that tastes nothing of mushrooms. Not a trace of mushroom.The strange mayo substitute was beyond my powers of description. And then there was a very strange sweet spread of mashed beets. Altogether just plain yucky. I will never go back. We went there for our last lunch in the city, unfortunately or fortunately, was our last day there, cause otherwise I would probably be tempted to eat there every day and just miss out all the other places! Everything we ordered was delicious, their menu is quite extensive and I really want to be back to BA and try their other beautiful dishes! They brought fresh and warm bread with smoked eggplant spread to our table, that was divine! We ate all and after our eggplant spread was finished they just refiled it! We ordered an appetizer that was huge and two mains! If we new about this fresh bread and delicious spread plus the free soup they offer you before your main, we would not have ordered an appetizer, we were absolutely stuffed and could hardly finish our mains, their portions are quite big. This place is a heaven for vegetarians and non-veg, I would recommend it for both! They have lots of nice juices and smoothies, we had lemonades mixed with other fruits, the one with raspberry was delicious and very refreshing! Stumbled upon this place and so happy we did. Ate the best sandwich I've ever had in Buenos Aires. The avocado sandwich has an egg, avocado, chicken, tomato, melted cheese and homemade bread- the bread is delicious and the ingredients are fresh. The carrot power drink (carrots, ginger, passion fruit) was light, refreshing and frothy. Unfortunately we came before the dinner hour (several items looked great).
