The place is no secret among the denizens of Recoleta; it has a constant stream of customers for the pastry counter, seemingly never-ending! The tortas (mini-quieshes) are ridiculous! I had the broccoli two days running. The medialunes are far superior to those found in typical cafes of this type. Even the cafe con leche is better than expected. I didn't look at their menu but it looked like they serve a full lunch. The service is great: take and deliver your order, then leave you in peace until you make eye contact. Prices not super low, but quite reasonable. Cafe con leche and 3 medialunes for 42 pesos ($4) at time of writing. If you want table service just find a seat and be patient. For the pastry counter, take a number from the red dispenser and enjoy the cornucopia of edibles before you. They carry a small selection of jams, chocolates and other accoutrements above the counter. And they have a restroom for customers.

The place is quite old, I think it was founded sometime in the 1920s, but I could be misremembering. Nevertheless, the decor and architecture is certainly of that time. The waiter was profusely apologetic and stated his mind confused the meat with the fish. 35 minutes later, still no fish, but complimentary glasses of champagne for the delay. At the 45 minute mark, the fish arrived. More apologies and we noted the sauce on the fish had already congealed, so it had been sitting awhile. Coffee with some complimentary dessert bites. Sadly, the elegance and service I remembered was very much lacking. As a 'bonus', 20 minutes after leaving L'Orangerie, someone charged $1200 USD on plane tickets to Chile on the CC I had just used at the restaurant.
