I really, really wanted to like Coffee Town, but I just can't recommend it. I visited twice, and this is my review of both drinks: 1) Almond milk cappuccino: overly sweet and overly sour at the same time. Not sure where they are getting their almond milk, but the drink was terrible. 2) Pour-over (V-60 or 'Dripper'): Came out to 100 pesos, or ~$6.50. This was the average price for the options (i.e. not an overly fancy bean). For that sum, I got about 1/2 a cup of coffee. I have been to quite a few coffee roasters around the world, and this was by far the most overpriced cup I've had, including expensive countries like the U.K. and Japan. The coffee itself was pretty average: the pour over I had the day before in Montevideo (for the half the price) was way better. The staff is nice and the wifi free and fast. Besides that, I'm not going back, despite my hostel being only a block away. read more

My friend told me that Coffee Town has some of the best coffee in BA. I don't drink coffee and so I'm absolutely no expert. But I saw that they also have food, so I decided to eat lunch here, located inside the historic Mercado de San Telmo. They have a kiosk right in the middle of the market with a bunch of tables surrounding it, but they also have a spot off to the side where their kitchen is. There bar seating around the kitchen. I sat there and ordered a macadamia latte, a meat empanada, and the lisboa salad. I don't see mac nut lattes usually so I wanted to try it. That came out first and while the latte was good, the macadamia flavor was pretty subtle. I was hoping for a stronger flavor. The empanada was not good. Skip it. I should have known cuz just looking at it, the outside seemed really dry. And the outside was dry and so was the inside filling. It was a disappointing empanada. But the salad was really good. Super simple but very fresh as tasty. It's just lettuce and the there's walnuts, grilled pears and mushrooms, and Brie cheese, and drizzled with a mustard dressing. I was craving healthy salad, and this satisfied me. They also have wifi and take credit card. read more

Exceptional coffee shop in the old San Telmo Market. The staff speaks English in addition to Spanish and are eager to help. The coffee menu is impressive, long, and deep. There is something for everyone, no matter where you like your coffee to come from. There are many preparations available from vacuum press to french press to standard espresso preparation. The area is noisy and busy and a great place to people watch while you enjoy your coffee. Pay attention too, this is actually a VERY big restaurant made up of several different "stalls" or locations, so if you don't see a place you like to sit when you walk up to the first one, look just a little farther, you'll find exactly what you are looking for. This is a must visit if you are in Buenos Aires (where the rest of the coffee in town is average at best). read more

They have the large selections of origins of coffee beans and serve all of them in your prefered way of having your cup of coffee. V60, Aeropress, Syphon etc. They also serve food, good and simple. The best coffee in town. Come for the coffee and nothing else. Granted, the service is great and they do have wifi (usually), but if you want a good hangout spot, check in at Starbucks a block south. Coffee Town is an indoor stand with a few seats. But that's all it needs to be in order to function as the best source of connoisseur-worthy coffee in Buenos Aires that I've found. read more

Very good coffee served properly and intelligently. They understand giving good coffee dignity. It's quite expensive, 100 Pesos per cup or $7USD. 250 Pesos for 100 grams. Thats 2,500 Pesos a kilo, in todays money thats like $164 USD per kilo or $82USD per lb, fucking a thats expensive. Almost cheaper to buy pot and the buzz will last longer, I did. read more

My friend invited me for a coffee in this place and I have to you, this place surprised me. I am coffee lover, but not an expert - so don't take my words as the bible if you are very picky about your coffee. But this place have definitely better coffee than what you usually find in Buenos Aires. You don't expect much when you see the cafe inside the "mercado" building. The environment is very simple, small and not "beautiful", but the coffee is not disappointing! I asked for a Kenia coffee and they literally prepared the coffee on my table, and served me in a wine glass... Yeah, I agree, it's was a bit too much - no need for a fancy glass, but I guess it adds to the experience. If you are walking a Sunday through the San Telmo, take a time to get to know this place. read more

We stumbled upon Coffee Town inside the San Telmo market when we walked in to take shelter from the rain during the Sunday feria. Coffee Town is one of the most sophisticated coffee shops I've ever seen with amazing modern machinery and an extravagant menu - everything from basic cafe con leche to coffee tastings of straight high quality beans. They have amazing flavor options and I ordered a coco (coconut) while my friend ordered amaretto. Both were heavenly and amazing. The cafe con leche was fine but if you have a sweeter tooth, order one of the flavored cafes. It's not cheap but it's worth it. Loved it :-) We think the best coffee in the city is still Full City Coffee House, but this is an excellent alternative in San Telmo. The latte was great and the almond croissants were to die for. The staff are super friendly. The lunchtime mushroom risotto (in the café side of the business next to the coffee hut in the centre of the market) was also very good. I am, what some people we'd say, a coffee snob. I like my espresso drinks properly done. I came to buenos aires to learn their cappuccino it's just a fancy big latte with chocolate and cinnamon on top. If you are like me and enjoy the taste of the espresso with the proper amount of milk and foam, then you NEED to come to Coffee Town; They definitely know what they are doing, very knowledgable and friendly staff, it is also located in a very interesting market downtown buenos aires with some antique stores that will take the whole day out of your schedule :) read more

Be wary travelers (especially English speaking travelers)... I've been ripped off in Argentina before (charged a premium for being a US traveler), but never to the degree that we have been at Coffee Town. Its really a disgrace; it ruined my ability to trust the vendors for the remainder of my trip. I ordered a decaf coffee, which at most cost around $4 USD in Argentina. A decaf coffee at the most upscale coffee vendors in San Francisco (Blue Bottle, Ritual, etc..) costs $4. Imagine our shock when when were we charged over $20 USD (over 300 pesos) for a single twelve ounce french press of decaf coffee and two media-lunas (tiny croissants). They served us 12 ounces of coffee in Cognac glasses with plastic straws. After expressing our confusion, they preached that the reason for the glasses was that you needed to take in the "single origin" coffee scent, much like wine before you drink it. The coffee was watered down (too little time or/and too little coffee). Living in San Francisco and traveling to NYC, in my 30 years of drinking, brewing, roasting, and experimenting with coffee, I had never seen coffee served in liquor glasses. Bizarre, but a very creative way to target an unsuspecting tourist. Stay away .. You can get a better cup at cafe Martinez, or even one of Starbucks "single origin" coffee at a fraction of the price. If you can't resist the other reviews, you would be wise to see the menu (la carta) before ordering to protect yourself. read more

I visited the store on a typical Sunday afternoon on San Telmo wanting to check out the flea stores at the mercado before they closed, therefore I asked a double cappuccino "para llevar". Not only it cost double than any other speciality coffee shop in buenos aires (that is 76 pesos when in other places the same costs 35-45...) but it took them 15 minutes to take my order and another 10' to deliver it. There was no one in line ahead of me. The milk was burning hot and slightly acid because it was oversteamed. I don't care how big their claim to fame is in the barista world in BA. Terrible service. This is a small stand in the middle of the San Telmo's old market.It really seems quite out place because of its surroundings and the seating is very limited, that's why I took a star off. That being said, the coffee is excellent. They surely know their craft. They also sell their own coffee, which they roast themselves, so can you take it and enjoy at home (tip: do it!) Good coffee is hard to find in Argentina. Most is weak or just crappy. Argentines prefer cafe con leche, but for purists like me that like "cafe solo", a great cup of black coffee or a solid americano can be hard to find. This place is the best I have discovered after the last week of drinking coffee in Buenos Aires and the lakes region of Patagonia. They have a real deal La Marzocco machine here. ENGLISH: Coffee Town reminds me of the coffee spots in LA .. but waaaaay more down to earth. Coffee in Buenos Aires is good anywhere. But here, coffee is science - they got a huge menu of their beans (mostly organic and all fair trade). They are able to brew through different systems (french press, aero press, pour over, and many more). Once I picked a bean (papua new guinea- i always tend to like beans from there) I asked for a suggestion on brew method. They ended up suggesting aeropress in order to balance the acidity of the bean. See? they are very knowledgeable. They also brought out the beans for me to smell both whole and freshly grounded. Best of all, first time I have coffee in a fancy glass like the one they gave me (like a cognac glass). My mom had a espresso based coffee and it was really nice and balanced. The menu has a huge selection of items - coffees, fraps, etc. but ALSO which i found pretty difficult to find in Buenos Aires - healthy items like fresh juices, salads, omelettes, etc. CASTELLANO- Coffee Town me hace acordar a los cuantos cafecitos de Los Angeles. Pero con mucha mejor onda. Cafe en Buenos Aires es bueno en todos lados. Pero acá, el cafe es una ciencia. Tienen un montón de semillas de cafe para elegir (casi todas orgánicas). Y te lo pueden hacer con varios aparatos para hacer cafe (como el french press, aero press, pour over, entre otros). Elegí el cafe de Papua New Guinea porque casi siempre me gustan los de ella. Y me sugirieron de hacerlo con el aeropress para que sea mas suave. Me trajeron las semillas para oler - enteras y molidas. Lo mejor fue cuando me trajeron el cafe en una copa tipo para tomar cognac! If there is anything we have learned about Buenos Aires it is that you should not trust strangers who come to help you clean bird droppings off your clothing (he's trying to pick your pocket) and that the coffee is generally of very poor quality. But this coffee shop is an exception to that last rule--located in the middle of the lovely San Telmo market, the coffee is truly delicious, from the simplest espresso to the flat white (almost as good as it is in New Zealand) and the mochaccino. The selection of pastries is not huge, but the alfajor I had was very good, if a bit on the dry side (I think that is intentional, however). And the service is very very friendly. Go, treat yourself, but watch your pockets as you make your way there! read more

we struggled to find a real world-class espresso in BA and (at first) we found it at Coffee Town's pop up in San Telmo, with an absolutely wicked, transcendent shot. But when we went back the next weekend and ordered an 'espresso' (single shot) what we got was some weak shit, one of the regular, tolerable, but unremarkable italian espressos that dominate the city. This may have partly been out fault --- the owner sort of hooked us up on our first visit and I think what we had was technically a double ristretto. But on our second visit we were just asked if we wanted single or a double, ordered the double espresso and were bummed out. So, in short, ask for a ristretto here and skip the rest. read more

Got their Mexican coffee brewed with the dripper. Literally the best cup of coffee of my life. Then paired it with the Niza salad, grilled apples with fresh greens, sprouts, blue cheese, and a peppery spice which was excellent, like the salad *is* the meal kind of excellent. Now sipping on an espresso, which like everything else is superb. Will be picking up some of their coffee to bring back to the States, and will definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

Great for solo travelers! I came here on a Sunday afternoon and had no trouble getting a seat at the counter. (They had tables open as well.) The service was excellent--very friendly and quick. There was a mix of locals and tourists and they were very nice and and able/willing to speak English to those of us who speak limited Spanish (and to those who did not even attempt Spanish). BEST place to get coffee in San Telmo! We visited daily during our week stay in BA. Other reviewers complain about the expense and I agree it is expensive BUT it is so hard to find good coffee in South America (seems odd doesn't it?). Anyway, we tried a number of coffees from the pour-overs, Americanos, lattes, etc. All were great. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. A definite must stop at while in San Telmo. read more
