    The table set up

I enjoyed my visit to tea room, located in the Alvear Palace Hotel. We were seated just outside the garden sun room because of my elderly guest who lacked mobility and needed more light. We ordered two regular tea menus and also ordered a couple side items. Everyone enjoyed the food. The scones were served warm. The tea sandwiches were cute as tasty (though ham heavy which is typical in Argentina). The final cakes were rich and tasty. I enjoyed the apple tart, which came with raisins. The chocolate cake was tasty and had strong coffee flavors. The tea selection was limited to traditional teas, not so much fruity flavors. I like that. The service was exceptional. That's a rarity in Argentina. I'll likely try going back to restaurants in this hotel because the caliber of service is likely to remain. Ooh and keep in mind that Tuesday reservations will be easier to make and el include the glass of bubbly for the same price as the regular tea.

Lovely setting, great service. I could've done with more food and hotter tea but it was a great experience. They only have a house blend of tea rather than many options to choose from.

I awoke in my crisp soft sheets in my room at the grand hotel Palace Alvear, wandered down to breakfast, and somehow travelled back to a more elegant time, perhaps the 1920's in Paris? That anyway, is the feel of breakfast in the spectacular restaurant L'Orangerie within the equally spectacular hotel Alvear. We were seated in the greenhouse itself, at a large table covered with crisp linens and set with custom bone china and silver trays. The waiters wore white gloves as they brought us freshly squeezed orange juice, pots of brewed tea, coffee, and steamed milk. Boyfriend absolutely raved about the orange juice for days afterwards. And he doesn't ever compliment anything! It really did taste like it had been squeezed from truly ripe, fresh oranges no more than twenty minutes before. We were treated to an array of amazing breakfast fare at the large buffet. I discovered a new delicacy: Passion Fruit creme- where the pulp of the passion fruit is blended with cream and served in little cocktail glasses. Yes please! For breakfast there were fluffy eggs, thick-sliced bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, cereals, muesli from Switzerland, a smorgasbord of fresh fruits, pastries, fresh bread, jars of dulce de leche, and of course: Chocolate Cake. This must be what heaven is like- Best Breakfast Ever!

This used to be a very solid and reputable restaurant, but they have fallen from grace…read more Their service lacks, their food lacks, their prices pretend to be top quantity. Example, just had lunch with my mother in law and wife, the in-law has fond memories of the place. We took our seats and it was a few min before the waitress came by and gave us the menus. We received and when ready to order we had to call her over; the. We ordered, after we ordered she finally came by with bread and drinks a few minutes later. They charge a table service which includes bread and water (no water was delivered). We got no plates for the bread I ordered a mixed salad and 3 empanadas Wife had a $17 entre salad, and suegra got a matambre al verdeo The food came in decent time... -My mixed salad was equal parts tomato slices , lettuce (not the crispiest) and onion... lotta onions... no love into that plate; but I just put olive oil and balsamic (seemed to be 100% olive, that's a good thing) - empanadas were not hot... the meat one was the one I liked the least it was just puree of beef - wife's salad was a disgrace. A couple leaves of ruculan, beat up mango and old brown avocado... and wet quinoa , and after the 2 forks of leaves were gone it was pitiful. It's supposed to be an entre. This is made by someone who doesn't eat salad and doesn't give a sheet about customers who do; and an establishment that doesn't care to keep good fresh vegetables. - the matambre was tasty, but very tough (super overcooked- probably cooked earlier and cooked again before serving) After we go the food the server NEVER came back to check; she tended to tables near by but made sure not to look in our direction. Seems the staff is trained not to look at the tables. Finally when we were done I wanted to speak to the manager- I noticed who it was and I signaled him over.. he tried to send the waitress but I made it clear that I was looking for him. He wasn't assertive when I asked "are you the manager " he just responded "what's the issue"... we explained about the salad. He says it "normally doesn't come out like that".. and he offered another... we said, the rest of us have been done for a while... no sense in ordering now. He got a little base in his voice about "I'm just offering something to make it up "... we said just take it off our bill.. too late now, (i5 been over an hour by then) What a shame. Bad food, inattentive service, and bad prices

There are two options: in the courtyard or inside in one of the fancy salons of the palace. (Note: When you make an invitation you need to tell them whether you want to eat inside or out.) We were in the courtyard and it was lovely. The food was lighter, international food. Maybe it's Nouveau Argentine? We each had amazing salads accompanied by lovely wine. The service seemed a little, um, stressed. Even our Argentine guests were a little irritated at times and Argentines do not appear to complain at restaurants -- ever. As we were leaving, the hostess asked if we want to see the two dining rooms inside the palace. Don't miss it. The inside is beautiful. One caution: if you're going to eat in the courtyard, put on some insect repellant. BA has a bumper crop of mosquitos this year.

The staff were very friendly given we were Americans which is always a toss up at places like this overseas. Our waite helped me pick out a great Chardonnay to pair with the handfull of items we ordered including the tatine tasting plate, a gorgeous garden burratta salad and the famous Argentine Choripán (braised pork shoulder sandwhich). I only wish I had room for dessert.. and just be prepared to fend off the hungry pigeons that attempt to steal a bite occasionally.
