    This empanadas were pretty good

Lots of food stalls, but a typical tourist trap, el hornero empanadas were pretty good

I think Mercado de San Telmo is a worth see in Buenos Aires. It's nothing amazing but it's able to fill up a free afternoon if you have one available if you're visiting. It is definitely touristy and the prices are also definitely inflated but if you're aware of that and okay with it, then it's a good time. It will probably be crowded and on a hot afternoon it was even hotter inside the market probably due to all the food stalls with open flames. We stopped by Hierro Parilla and sat at the bar and we were SWEATING because we were right by the grill. The choripan was very good though, especially the crispy bits of it. I like all the little shops and what not and was able to find a shop that had cute postcards.

San Telmo Market is an indoor market that occupies an entire city block in the San Telmo neighborhood. The vendors inside are mainly food stalls, produce vendors, and souvenir shops. It's definitely a great place to try everything Argentinean cuisine has to offer. But as an indoor market, I have seen bigger and better ones, such as Mercat de la Boqueria in Barcelona. Rather than the shops, the main reason to check this place out is its architecture. The building was founded in 1897 and retains its old features. For example, the outside looks like a 100 year old plus building you would see in Italy. And the iron and glass ceiling looks like old train stations you find all over Europe. It's indeed an impressive looking building.

Lots of food stalls and there were some appetizing options. We got the lay of the land and wound up a food stall that had it's own quasi-restaurant space. The stall was called Fonda and it was pretty good. It was a little grimy in the seating area, but not dirty. The food was good, but the standout was a Caprese Empanada. Truly *chefs kiss* perfect. Now, this review is for Mercado de San Telmo itself, so the experience is more than just eating at Fonda. There were booths that were actual market stalls selling everything from antiques to records, and of course; fresh fruits and vegetables. Some of the booths we were closed, which was a little irksome, but about 60% of them were open on a weekday afternoon. An interesting place to spend an hour or two.

The crowds here were too much on a Sunday afternoon. Shoulder to shoulder in some areas and practically all seating filled with diners. Probably better to visit earlier or later in the day if you want some breathing space. The shops area had less people. Many stores were selling dulce de leche In different flavors and tasting was popular. I picked up a couple alfajores to try. A few blocks away on La Defensa was the Sunday market with more crowds but full of stalls selling local crafts and other stuff. I will try to come back on a weekday and update my review then.

Cute food hall with a lot of other stores to shop. Service in the shops I went into was fine.

Inside we were just walking around.

This won't be the best review because I didn't take pictures:( so I'll just talk mostly about the experience. Visited this place while in Buenas Aired Argentina, it's like an indoor Market with lots of restaurants and small shops. There are tables everywhere so you can sit and eat and they also serve Alcoholic beverages. The empanadas, Steak and everything else we ate were delicious and everyone was super nice. After eating we walked around and purchased some small souvenirs.

Walk down the cobblestone roads created from stones used as ballast on ships that sailed to the New World to reach the Mercado de San Telmo. Located in the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires, Argentina, it is filled with charming cafes, antique stalls and bakeries. Love the colonial buildings that lead to the marketplace. Some of the first homes and elaborate mansions were built in this neighborhood. These homes were quite luxurious with access to gas mains, lighting, sewers, and running water. This led to a growing and thriving community. Unfortunately, this early era ended abruptly when the yellow fever epidemic struck the area in 1871. Although the establishment of new clinics helped slow the spread of the epidemic, it claimed over 10,000 lives. Yellow fever caused many prominent families to abandon their homes with all contents left behind. Hundreds of properties became vacant. Some of the larger homes and land were converted into parks. Many of the abandoned treasures are now sold at antique shops in the area or the Mercado. Many of the homes became conventillos (tenement housing) for European immigrants. Explore the Mercado for delicious foods or a fun souvenir. The stalls are full of so many antiques like rotary telephones, China sets, silver platters, old coins and political posters. Love the old Coca-Cola signs. Although we had a limited time to explore, it was so nice to have a short visit and learn the history of this neighborhood with Patrice from Argentina Elite Transfers and Tours.

Cool place to walk around with loads of food stalls. So many choices and delicious food. There are lots of little shops around to look at.

Mollejas and potatoes, tortilla española, boquerones

De Lucia Tapas Bar. Highly recomendable. Suggest not to go on weekends or not on Sundays (+1hr to get a table). Mollejas and papas in the middle, spanish tortilla and boquerones. Just an 10! Service is good, cash is preferred as usual in Argentina but not a must. Ambience is a little noisy when full so go on weekdays

She put them into the cash register and said thank you and bye like it was something absolutely normal. I asked for the change and she said that table service was 30 pesos and she didn't have another 30 pesos for me so it would be nice if I could leave them as a tip. My Spanish is limited and I couldn't argue and I left. 30 pesos for the service is 2.5 percent more than a regular tip elsewhere - for what? - bringing someone a salad?? There was another worker there and she never asked him if he had it or go to another shop to exchange money so she could give me the change. So I left 60 peso trip for 240 peso meal - that is totally crazy, and she never even apologized and acted like there wasn't anything wrong. I'm never eating there again. I had bought some tangerines for juice from their fruit stand and they are also expensive and the juice tasted not nearly as good, actually sour, as the the one I made from tangerines from the organic market at San Lorenzo where I usually get fruit at a far lower price. I only went to feria verde twice because my market is open only Wednesday and Saturday and today it was closed. And the fruit and vegetables stand at San Telmo verde was also closed, so I had to order from the restaurant, the only organic veggie dish without cheese which they had, because today I broke a 4 day juice fast. And yes, while they advertise themselves as an organic store, there is only one vegan organic dish on the menu - the salad I ordered, and the other organic salad has cheese in it. And all the fruit smoothies, juices and cucumber and ginger water are not organic and they cost 150 pesos each?? They've got to be kidding. I hope I will find another organic place to get fruit and veggies until the Green Shop market at San Lorenzo 371 opens Saturday - not willing to return to San Telmo feria verde for anything, ever.
