It's really too bad also - there was so much lost potential as a result of this poor communication and unfriendly customer service - mostly just at the very end, which tainted the whole experience. I really wanted it to go a different way because I am a supporter of small businesses in general and believe I was a thoughtful guest; my approach was to be forthright and honest and correct a situation, while hers was to take advantage of the situation and profit off of it, just in case, and without saying anything up front. She not only initiated an unauthorized charge, but acted in poor faith in the way that she did it behind the back of her customers, creating a bad taste from the overall experience. Travelers Tip: Tread lightly with these bureaucratic "Karen" hosts.

The house had all the character, quirks, and charm of a place built over 100+ years ago, but all the amenities and features of a new construction. But the big differentiator was John. He was an absolutely incredible host, always with a smile on his face and a wealth of information about the area at his disposal. He helped us set up some great adventures, had wonderful stories of the history of the town and inn, and also cooked a fantastic breakfast each morning for us. The other guests at the inn were very sociable and we walked away having made a few new friends! I also can't believe how affordable the rooms were considering the great level of service and quality. If you love to be outdoors, kayak, or like exploring old towns with lots of antiques, or just need a break from the hustle and bustle of the District, I'd highly recommend the Llewellyn Lodge!

The room was well themed with curated pieces and decorative touches to match the art hanging form the wall. The decorative effect made you feel like you were staying at an arts friend's home not at a B&B, which was great. Nancy and Jan-Willem were gracious hosts very willing to provide area information and recommendations. Breakfast was excellent featuring fresh fruit and veggies from their garden. Their grounds were open and featured a large pond with 3 amazing koi including a golden koi that looked like a mythic dragon. And there are 2 sometimes 3 grounds cats that are either hunting or rolling over for belly rubs. Only minimal down sides; you are about 10 min from downtown Lexington, the front rooms, while nice and breeze do pick up some road noise, and the shower pressure was a bit low, but nothing to take away from a great visit. An old Presbyterian church was renovated back into a large home with four rooms on the second floor. I particularly enjoyed relaxing on the porch looking out onto South Main Street one late summer Friday evening. My room was large, both the bed and sheets were comfortable, and the updated bathroom gave me some ideas for a potential future home revocation. Cheryl and Rob were friendly hosts who make sure you get a full meal to start the day. Visitors to Lexington themselves, as heir weekday home base is in northern Virginia, they appreciate trips out to the Shenandoah Valley as much as their guests! I would certainly recommend staying here, as I got to meet a 23 year old alum back for reunion and a couple from Australia traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Don't be caught off guard when they ask for check payment and enjoy your stay in a beautiful home away from home. Great option to rent out the whole space of you have a few friends in town for a weekend. I'm a loyal Hilton Honors member, but my stay at Grace House has me ready to spend more time in B&B's worth my travels.

Every amenity you can think of was there and Cheryl (and Rob) did whatever they could to make sure we felt "at home." The location of Grace House is close enough to the downtown area of Lexington to walk to, and it also worked out perfectly and was spacious enough for the bridesmaids to gather and get dressed the day of the wedding, and then to have bridal pictures taken there also. They also host spiritual conferences there, we were told. I can imagine it being a good place for a church retreat - the rates for conferences were very reasonable - advertised in the $400 range for a full weekend of meals and activities. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

I'm so glad I ended up staying at Fox Hill b&b, even though there were hotels closer to my race. Charlie and Julie acquired the place during the pandemic, and they're seriously killing it. Grounds. Absolutely gorgeous. The b&b is on a large stretch of land and there's plenty of small mown grass paths to explore and walk around. Mountains around, and of course close by to some legit hiking trails which I hope to hit in the future. Rooms. All I can say is that the pictures don't quite do them justice. Yes, they're quaint. I think I was expecting the rooms to "feel" older, but there were so many cute details, and everything looked new and very well kept. The bed and couch (where I may have watched like 2 hours of qvc) were comfy. They have a few rooms, two with kitchens. We got a kitchen room, and my parents got a non-kitchen room. Both with beautiful views of the grounds. The kitchen was well equipped, literally with everything that I needed (pots, saucepans, strainers, cutlery, bunch of different sized bowls/plates/mugs, etc.). There were also a lot of nice little touches, like drinks in the refrigerator that were gulped down immediately after the race or paw wipes for the dog. FOOD. This is the biggie. I've never ever ever have been to a more welcoming b&b. When I booked the room, about half a year in advance, Julie asked about dietary restrictions. I told her that we were vegan, and she asked me what type of milk I liked to drink (oat) and what I thought about vegan muffins/how I made them. I didn't think much about it because I figured she'd forget and we'd do what we always do - bring our milk, bring our food, just eat out of a can (sigh/lol). When we got there, they had bought oat milk, just egg, and had a recipe for vegan muffins for our breakfast. Breakfast was topnotch. A scramble of just egg with lots of veggies, vegan breakfast sausage, potatoes, delicious blueberry muffins, cup of fruit, and coffee with oat milk. Maybe redundant, but Charlie and Julie were also just good people. And there's some self selection it seems, because all other guests were friendly as well. Some other notes: - Dogs allowed in rooms, grounds, but not in main building (where the kitchen is). - There is an outdoor eating area if you're still uncomfortable eating inside (like my mom is). They had large heaters for the outdoor tables. - Check in between 4 - 7 p.m. They like to know when you get there because they set things up for your stay and like to welcome you in.
