Living room with tv but couldn't watch anything, even with personal streaming. Our house had three bedrooms upstairs: one with a full sized bed, one with two twins, and one with a queen. Don't want to sound like a princess, but the pillows didn't work for me: way too firm/ hard and bulky, or too mushy... There were clean towels and the shower was very warm. I accidentally did not taken any interior photos ..... Beautiful setting; would definitely stay here again.

I wish I could give the houses more stars than last time, but sadly, not much has changed. The houses look a little more tired than before, and the state park still hasn't done anything to make them any more comfortable or inviting. If I was in charge of the houses, I would hang old-timey pictures of men logging, of trains, scenery from other state parks, and black and white photos of the town of Cass from 100 years ago. Give your customers a sense of time and place. Also, these houses still need a lot of love and maintenance. They need new paint, roofs, and other miscellaneous items repaired or replaced. Overall, this is still a very cool place, and I will probably be back. But it's as if I can feel the town slowly dying....without more money and maintenance from the state.

It is definitely an amazing place to take your family. The green and blue slopes are within a short walk and so is the village. You can ski into the back door a short distance. If you are better at the slopes, you can ski right out that door down a black diamond. When you are done skiing, the mud room comes convenient with air driers for your boots and gloves. You have plenty of hooks to hang your ski gear and shelves to store snowboards and skiis. The beds are very comfortable and there owners provide games and a dvd's to watch to relax after a day on the slopes. It is a beautiful set up and amazing place to stay. I highly recommend this place. There is a porch to hang out on and two bathrooms, one for the master and one for the other two bedrooms to use. The master bathroom has a jetted tub and the other bathroom has a very nice walk in shower. This is truly an amazing place to stay and well worth the money! Take your family and enjoy the best time of your life.

My kids scouted just about every trail on the Mountain and kept coming back to Shays Revenge and Cupp Run as their favorites. Both runs start right out the back door from Hutch 8. We could watch the kids arrive on the lift and then either start their run or come in the back door for some hot chocolate. The owner Jeff is very involved and helpful and answered every question from my original inquiry to trip end. The property has everything you would need from a fully equipped Mud Room with ski racks, boot dryers etc. The kitchen has everything you would need to feed your crew and was the cleanest of any property I have rented. Big screen TV, DVD player and a library of DVD's and books to read. Centrally located, we parked on day one and walked to the main Resort Village for shops and restaurants. My grandson had an equipment malfunction on day one with a broken boot. Drove down the Mountain to the Ski Barn which was recommended by Jeff. New boot selected, fitted and binding adjustment and back on the slopes in less than 45 minutes. This is the only time we drove our car in five days. If you want ski on ski off, this is the best location on the mountain.

We happened upon this place while looking for a weekend getaway in the Wintergreen area. My husband…read moreand I both love the outdoors and love to hike, and we were looking for a location that would cater to both of these where we did not need to travel far. When we found the web page for Whispering Oaks, we knew that we had found our place. This home was exactly what we had been looking for! It looked warm and inviting, comfy, spacious, and it was close to many of the things that we wanted to do. We booked right away. The home did not disappoint. We arrived in the evening after dark, but the instructions were so specific for check in that we did not have any delay in finding the home or getting in. Everything was set up perfectly and was spotless. We booked at the beginning of December, and our hosts even set up Christmas cds for us and put movies out as well. We were able to come in and get settled quickly, and before we knew it, it felt like home. We put on a fire (there were firelogs as well as a huge supply of firewood waiting), turned on the television, and enjoyed lounging in the living room. The living room is huge-- the pictures truly do not do it justice. The ceilings are incredibly high and impressive, and it truly does make you feel like you are living outdoors (without the cold that is). The remainder of our stay was wonderful as well. We had all of the kitchen supplies that we needed to cook as well as other basic supplies that we needed to function as if it were our own home. Hiking, our main goal for the weekend, was also incredibly convenient. Our first day in town we ventured to the Nature Center to get oriented for a hike (this was not necessary, however, as our hosts left maps of all of the trails for us in the kitchen, but it is always nice to get a person speaking from experience about the trails nearby). We decided on the Upper Shamokin Falls trail, which did not disappoint- it was both challenging and beautiful. The second day it was a bit drizzly, so we decided to travel the walk around the golf course to the nature trail around the corner. We had an easier trail for this, but it was gorgeous and we still got a few miles in with the walk around the course. There are tons of trails to choose from within a short drive or walk, so no worries on variety. Overall, this has to be one of our favorite places that we have visited in the past few years. If you are looking for a place to stay in the area, Whispering Oaks is a wonderful choice.

I wish I could give more than five stars. I have close friends that enjoy getting together. We…read morewanted a location that was near an airport, had four bedrooms and was affordable. The Gala Farmhouse is owned by Robin and Richard. Ruby (their treasured dog) is really in charge and runs the place. If a blade of grass on the working farm threatens you, she will bark at it. If a bird flies overhead, she will chase after it. Part of the house was built in the 1800s. It was a working milk farm. The family owns most of the land that you see surrounding the farm, including the campground (along the James River) that is walking distance from the house. The house has been renovated and expanded. The mountains and trees and beautiful sky make a great backdrop for photos and fun. Three of the four bedrooms have a queen or double bed. I slept in the room with twin beds (they are more suitable for kids). The dryer is in a closet by the front door. Check in time is 4pm. Check out time is 11am. There is a minimum two night stay policy. The house was rented for eight days. The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishes, pots & pans and most kitchen gadgets that you would want. The refrigerator has an ice machine. There isn't a dishwasher. We spent a lot of time eating meals and playing games in the kitchen. There are little items hidden all over the house that are a fun scavenger hunt for kids. There is also a supply of toys & games. The owners live nearby, which is handy if you need them. Two bedrooms are on the lower floor. The best closet is on the lower floor. Two bedrooms are on the upper floor. The showers are great (no tub). The living room has five seats that recline. We spent evenings visiting and playing games there. There is a giant screened in porch at the side of the house. You can play games or have a meal at the table. There is also a swing and hammock. It gets breezy in the screened in area at night. The other screened in porch is fun for enjoying the view. You can bring a camp chair onto the porch. If you don't want to drive 30 miles to Walmart or 8 miles to Family Dollar, you can walk around the corner to Eagle Rock Grab and Go Country Store (aka Exxon Gas Station). You can buy a lotto ticket, a pizza and essentials, including a life jacket. The trip was a wonderful way to reset and relax. The sunrises are beautiful. The sunsets are spectacular. We enjoyed walking to the James River. Guests of the Gala house have access to the campgrounds and picnic tables. The water is nice. If you don't have a fishing pole you can buy it at the country store. You can also purchase cigarettes but don't smoke them on the property. A highlight of our stay was greeting Ruby every day. She is head of security and farm manager. She isn't aware that she is a dog. She loves to say hello. She rides every where with Richard. We took a tractor ride during our stay. It is a convenient way to explore the property and see the train tracks and farm. The house gets chilly at night. There are quilts in each room. The televisions have basic Direct TV stations. The televisions aren't the newest, but they get basic channels. We didn't pick a place to watch television. We wanted to spend time together. There is WiFi and lots of happiness in the house. We enjoyed day trips to Roanoke, Lexington and Salem. I highly suggest the Lexington Carriage ride. When you are coming to the house, you will use a GPS address that is down the road and not the actual address. Once you see the giant farm equipment, you know you have reached the property. That information is on the Gala Farmhouse rental page on Facebook. The owners are kind. Richard helped fix my tire when it was low on air. We had wonderful days exploring the area and enjoying the beautiful property. Bring great people with you. That will enhance the quality of your stay.
