+1 on being way better than Whole Foods! It's really my ideal lunch place-- casual, friendly, healthy, delicious. I usually come with a friend and split the 10€ menu deal that comes with quiche, soup, and three salads. The menu rotates on a daily basis, and I love the variety of creative things they come up with. The daily dish featuring sweet potato is typically my favorite, and it usually runs out first, so if you get there in time make sure to try that one! (assuming you like sweet potatoes, of course) I also appreciate a place that has an interesting drink selection but also doesn't mind if you just want to drink tap water too. read more

One of my favorite lunch places when in the 1st District! (US friends -- think the prepared foods section at Whole Foods!) Each day, a new menu with different prepared salads and quiches. Everything organic and fresh made. Hidden Kitchen is very affordable, and I find the 'Salat Option Klein' to be the perfect size for my lunch. You get to pick 2 salads from their day's offerings, and they'll package it for you nicely to take 'to go.' I also usually grab a healthy, wholegrain cookie for mid-afternoon snack later! read more

way better than the prepared food section at whole foods haha! they have several salads (lettuce/apples/walnuts, couscous/cashews/cranberries, lentils, green beans/cauliflour/curry, avocado/cucumber/peas, squash/feta...) and a couple main dishes too. you can get a small salad portion (1-2 types of salad) or large (1-4 types) or a combo with main dish. perfect way to have them all since you wont be able to make up your mind. they are as good as they look! and way filling! the line was out the door but it went so fast plus you get your food right there when you order. good seating area inside. several healthy food options surround this place also on this little side street. they have sweets too, cupcakes that looked really good. im so excited to go back. read more

The Hidden Kitchen is obviously not so hidden anymore. During the lunch rush there is always a line and if you haven't seen it already, there is a conspicuous Hidden Kitchen in the 3rd district by Landstrasse. The food is generally good, healthy etc. I am a fan, but out of principal I feel it is purely exploitation of popularity to increase prices at such a rate, and change nothing in terms of quality, service or portion size. It reminds me a bit of the MTA, but that is another story. Today's selection was also boring. I like the fact that the menu changes daily, which can be part of the fun dining there, but today was a letdown. This returns me to my initial complaint which is that raising prices on an average of 25% every three months looks greedy. Lunch averages 13-15€ read more

This was a good, fresh meal, which we sought out because of the Yelp reviews. I have no complaints, but it was probably the least memorable meal in our two weeks in Vienna (but all the food in Vienna was good, so this is not a major complaint). It is on a side street, but not hard to find. I was a little confused about how to order and would probably make different choices next time. You walk up to the counter and tell them what you'd like. The salads are pre-made in large bowls and you can do combos with several different salads. Or you can choose quiche and several sides. They seem to have several meat options as well; I think coq au vin the day we were there. The chick pea salad I chose was flavorful; the celery salad was kind of blah, as wer the cucumber and spinach salads. The quiche my husband ordered was, however, the best quiche I have ever tasted; maybe it's that Austrian cheese. I only got one bite, though--so, next time, that would be the choice. The infused lemonade was so spectacular that we asked for the recipe, and the lovely server actually went in the back and asked the chef and wrote it down for us. So, bonus points there. read more

You gotta love Hidden Kitchen! Not only love, you basically want to be the person who has come up with / copied this wonderful concept from London or wherever. Best salads I can think of at this very moment. Your belly is simply grateful after this delicious meal, it just feels right. And I'm not saying this because it is healthy, as salad generally is, but because healthy can be delicious to such an incredible extent. The only drawback is usually a looooooong line during lunchtime, but that also only speaks for them I suppose..... read more

We enjoyed this place very much. You have the option to choose the food from a buffet like display. The food was very tasty and diverse. They also have some lunch specials that seem to be a favorite for the local crowd. Speaking of which - you may want to get there a bit before the lunch rush hour ... This place is awesome! We found it based on yelp reviews, which is good because it's off on a side street, so we never would have come across it otherwise! They have so many amazing options for salads, as well as mains and soups. We didn't try any of the desserts, but they looked good. There were four of us, and between us we got the quiche and lamb meatballs with tahini-yogurt sauce, which were main course options, and both were delicious!!! For the salads, our favorites were the tomato salad, the couscous with corn, the pasta salad, and the sweet potatoes. Everything was pretty healthy and light, but still very filling! Two of us took our food to go, and the other two stayed there to eat (there was limited seating inside with free water on the tables). Overall, it was the best meal I've had in a while, and I wish I could find more restaurants like that everywhere! If you're looking for a healthy, quick, and inexpensive lunch while on vacation, this is the place to go! read more
