Wow this place was definitely hard for me to find the first time. There's no sign that says Hidden Cafe (or you know maybe I'm just super blind). But seriously, this place lives up to its hidden name haha. When I first ate here, I was amazed at how fast the staff moved people in and out of the place. It was crazy. The staff are super helpful and cheerful. Drinks are always refilled and there are no absurdly long wait times. The food is good, but what makes this place great is the fried chicken and the loco moco. Man.... just writing about the loco moco makes me want to go there now! haha. With all that being said, if you're a fan of pacific islander food, or were in the military and stationed at places like Guam or Hawaii, I would highly recommend coming here. The loco moco is great and fried chicken mixed with their finadene sauce is just amazing. I hope you guys have a much much easier time finding this place then me. Biscuits and gravy! Yummy.....their Country Benedict is delicious. I can never find biscuits and gravy anywhere so when I do see it on the menu I must order it. It reminds me so much of my mom's version too. Homemade gravy ontop of soft buttery biscuits and poached egg oozing into the creamy mess. It comes with sausage inside it too- I personally like it without. They also serve mimosa's and bloody merry's with your breakfast- can't find that at many places around here. This place definitely stands out and their menu is large. We also ordered their buttermilk pancakes- so fluffy and tasty- they have a banana nut version that looks really good too. For a place that's this well hidden, and open for only half a day, you would think they'd be sure to make every customer interaction flawless. You'd think, but they don't. You'd also think that, since they have a "Rate Us On Yelp" sticker on the front door, they'd be more conscientious. I should say that the food my party ordered (Country Eggs Benedict and Chicken and Waffles) was very good. The chicken and the waffles were exceptional. The Benedict was nearly there. The country gravy was a bit gelatinous, so you could tell they used cornstarch rather than a proper flour and butter rue. Still, the food - overall - warrants a solid five stars. However, the service leaves much to be desired. When we entered, the chef was standing in the middle of the place (it's very small, so he was hard to miss in the white jacket) and 7-8 service personnel (waitresses? they were all wearing black) were clustered near the front. Three were actually working. Two waitresses seemed to be handling the tables and one hostess was near the front, seating people as they came in. This wasn't too often, so she mostly stood around looking bored. The other 4-5 were gathered around a table (right in front of the door) yakking and going over notes of some sort. I guess they were going over financials? At any rate, even if they were tackling the NY Times Crossword, what is the staff doing crammed around a table at the door? They were loud and constantly moving about, so - if they weren't drowning out our conversation - they were bumping into nearby tables and generally being distracting. To make this decision of location even more questionable, the two waitresses who were working were getting slammed. It took no less than 25 minutes to get our food. This was after a 15 minute wait before the waitress even took our order. No one - not one soul at that table - could get up and help? If they were off duty, then what in the world were they doing in such a visible and obstructive location? The chef (owner?) also just stood there talking to the same table for 20 minutes before wandering around - looked at us, said nothing - and then disappeared. This place looks like a candidate for Restaurant Stakeout. All said, the food was good, the prices were great - but the service was horrible (except our waitress; she did the best she could). Looking at the other reviews here, this is an issue typical to this location. Until they fix this, there are many, many other options within a 10-15 minute drive that have good food with the service to actually match. read more

This was my first visit and I will definitely return! I was with four people, everyone order something different and everyone enjoyed their meals. The waitress was nice, attentive and never let our coffee or water go below half before refilling. The food was fresh and delicious. The patio dining is great, it has a heater that actually warms the entire area so you can dine in comfort. Everything was clean and neat in appearance. We found this place on Yelp driving north on the 101 and decided to stop for breakfast based on the positive reviews. Wow, we were totally happy that we did. Their name is no lie. You would never find this place without a trail of bread crumbs, a compass and a seeing eye dog to lead you to their door. I ordered the Country Benedict (two poached eggs with sausage patties served on a homemade biscuit and topped with our special homemade country gravy). Absolutely delicious. The gravy tastes homemade, not out of a can and the biscuits were perfectly moist. We all talked about the quality of the ingredients of our dishes and how well everything was prepared. They know how to cook a mean breakfast. We had great service, prompt refills on coffee and a pleasant server. Before we left, I told her how much we enjoyed our meal and how much we wish their restaurant was closer to our home. She brought the owner over and introduced us and we reiterated our positive comments. I love locals places like this where quality food trumps corporate profits. You peeps in Camarillo are lucky to have this place. Next time we're driving in this area, we'll stop by again. And I can't wait to try the chicken and waffles. read more

This place is fantastic! We come at least once a week for breakfast and my week is not complete without it. The food is spectacular everytime, no matter what we get, and the service is amazing. The family that owns it is friendly, helpful, and fun. They gauge well who you are, joke and chat with those with whom it is appropriate and simply serve those that it isn't. I would recommend it to anyone! We have never waited for a table, whether it be mid-week or Saturday/Sunday mornings there is always room. I'm not sure why, but I hope it stays that way! We will soon be moving from Camarillo and honestly this is one of the big reasons I'll be sad to cut my husband's commute down. SO GOOD! I love Hidden Cafe! It has been a long time since I have been here, and decided to stop by for a late breakfast. I ordered the Chicken Chicken fried steak and it was so good!! I thought it was a little smaller than it used to be but did not disappoint in flavor. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak and he wasn't sure he would get it as he thought it lacked in flavor. It did take a while to have our waters refilled but it was very busy. I agree with one of the earlier posts...A lot of staff and very little service. After finishing a cup of coffee, a waitress passed by and asked how we were doing - we had just given our order to another waitress. We said "fine" and asked for some more coffee. After five minutes passed with no coffee, I got up from the table, went over to the coffee pot with my cup, and helped myself. There were three staff standing by the cash register talking amongst themselves. Nobody batted an eye as I poured the coffee and returned to my table. My dining partner then did the same...The place was not crowded so I think that the employees need to circulate a bit and pay attention to details. Another couple came in and were told they could sit anywhere. They asked about one table and were told, "No, not there. It's not cleared." Cinnamon roll, order it, eat it before your meal arrives, hate yourself for doing so just for its gooey buttery deliciousness, do it all over again. I didn't even know these existed here my first 5 times coming in. I normally order the ham steak or chicken fried steak. My girl is particular to the omelets. Any of these is on the better side in portion and deliciousness in comparison to local breakfast spots. Plus, one of the former head cooks from the ol' Uncle Herbs owns the joint. I cannot believe that I walked in a tiny little restaurant like that and not a single waitress or anyone took notice of a family of 4 standing there for about 3 to 4 minutes. So we then walked out and said forget this place. We've been to this place a couple times and the food is good but each time we been back the service has gotten worse - until today where there was none! Unless management acknowledges this review to tell me that they will fix the problem it is very unlikely we will be back. I am absolutely shocked as I work in the service industry to see five to six waiters, waitresses and busboys standing no more than 10 feet from me and couldn't even say hello - we will be right with you. read more

When I was pregnant, I always wanted to go here for breakfast whenever I visited home (Camarillo). The people that work here are so friendly. I love their loco moco, especially with sauce that comes with it (kinda vinegary with a green onion? Not sure, going based on taste buds). You can't keep a good thing down though, it seems to be a pretty popular breakfast spot and once you try your food you'll understand why. One of the best places for breakfast in Camarillo. It is truly "hidden" as we had a difficult time finding it the first time, but I'm glad we did. The service and food are consistently satisfying. This place is a gem. It's literally a hidden cafe off the last exit before going up the grade near Camarillo Springs Golf Course. It's a family owned restaurant, and they are awesome. I feel welcomed every time I come in. I love their Fried Chicken and Waffles, Ribeye Steak and Eggs with Fried Rice, and they're Loco Moco (not all at once ;p) However, their menu also has a variety to choose from as well. Cute little spot, located in a small business complex in Camarillo Springs. The wait was only 20-30 minutes for a party of 3 on Fathers Day, and all the staff were working really hard to make sure everyone was taken care of quickly. I ordered the Garden Benedict while my father had the classic version. I enjoyed my meal and they did a great job cooking the hashbrowns instead of leaving them raw in the middle like so many other busy breakfast places seem to do. My father wasn't a huge fan of their hollandaise sauce, but that didn't didn't stop him from eating everything. Service was friendly and attentive. I will be back in the future. read more

Drove around a few times looking for The Hidden Cafe. I ordered the Loco Moco Deluxe. It was delicious. I had to try the Fried Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was exactly how I like it. Crispy and light. The waffles remind me of when i was a kid. We had the same waffle iron at home. Fresh cut lemon wedges with my iced tea. Quality ingredients. Generous portions. Everything on the menu looks really good. On Friday and Saturdays they are open til 8pm. Nice brand new restroom facilities. I haven't been this excited about a local food spot in a quite a while. Great food! Excellent service! And so close to home! I ordered turkey patty and eggs, which was cooked to perfection (turkey wasn't dried out and the eggs were not runny). They brought out ketchup and hot sauce without me having to ask (that's quality service!). My main squeeze ordered the ribeye steak with fried rice and eggs -- most breakfast/brunch spots have a tendency to overbook the ribeye, but this place cooked it perfectly. One thing I can always appreciate about a place is bottomless coffee and water...without having to ask! This place was def on top of things! First timer...and will def be returning!! This is my favorite and best go-to breakfast place, and my friend and I come here to catch up over breakfast as often as we can - usually several times per month. The food is consistent, tasty, awesome, and fairly priced for the area. Best of all, they have LOCO MOCO and other treats with a Pacific Island flare! It makes me miss my time in Hawaii. Best veggie omelette I've EVER HAD! And I've had quite a few, and many good ones. The veggies were very fresh, cooked al dente, and well proportioned to the egg and cheese. The cheese was a tasty addition, but didn't overwhelm the dish, as I've experienced elsewhere. The fruit side was fresh and sweet. The pancakes were light and fluffy - perfect. I've known owner and chef Jesse since his days at Uncle Herbs and Cafe Amri, and if anything, he's only gotten better over time. If you're ever in the vicinity of Camarillo, stop by for a bite. I believe a good breakfast place is marked by two things: how delectable their cinnamon rolls are and if they offer flavored creamer. Hidden Cafe has both of these, but I'm primarily impressed with their cinnamon rolls. They are ginormous! It looked liked a soufle when the waitress brought it out. As soon as you cut into them, they ooze butter...dieters be forewarned, because these babies are irresistable. I love that they offer fried rice with breakfast. It is a nice Hawaiian touch, and very well made. The coffee, pancakes and sausage patties were also very good. I will definitely be frequenting this place in the future.
