We visited here last week and we got the cheese enchiladas dinner which came with rice and beans. It was really good! My husband got a taco dinner which he ate all of it and said it was very good. I got two cheese enchiladas and one chicken. The chicken here is like minced or something. It was very good and had so much flavor. The cheese they use for the enchiladas was so good! Definitely of good quality. We also loved their salsa, however wished the nacho chips were hot. We also ordered the queso cheese dip which was pretty good. If you combined the salsa with it, it was really good. Altogether we will be back to try other items on the menu. The waitresses were very kind and on top of things. This was our first visit to Hidalgo. The restaurant is located off the beaten path in a small strip with other businesses. Don't blink or you will miss it. We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday right at opening (noon), so the place wasn't busy yet. We were told to pick our seat which was kinda nice. The place is spacious and clean. They have a message board as soon as you enter with all their specials for the day. I loved the salsa - hot and regular. They had a slightly different flavor from each other. Both were loaded with cilantro and onions! Yum!! The restaurant offers their lunch specials everyday from open to 3 p.m. This was great for me since I don't need a huge meal. I ordered two enchiladas - one with chicken and one with cheese. I preferred the cheese over the chicken. I also had beans and rice which were just average. Hubby had pork carnitas and he enjoyed his meal also. We ended our meal with a must-have piece of key lime pie - oh my!!!! It has the texture of cheesecake and comes loaded with whipped cream. Ive never been to this place but i loce it. I have a friend who moced into the neighborhood so I decides to check it out. And I'm glad I did. They were magnifico! Very patient with this 1st timer. Hidalgos was my favorite Mexican restaurant, but however the last three times I got takeout I was disappointed. I got street taco dinner every time as I always do except the last few times there's isn't enough chicken between all three to fill even one taco.... Don't let the exterior and lack of decorations inside fool you. Hidalgo's food is authentic, well made, and served by their attentive, friendly staff, who knows their menu inside and out and are great at making suggestions. We've had enchiladas verde, steak fajitas, quesadillas, wet burritos and more, and enjoyed each main course immensely. Their beans are usually very good, especially with a little bit of sour cream. The rice is standard--nothing special. Meals come with free chips and salsa. Be warned, their hot salsa is HOT. Even mild has some kick. I love Hidalgo. I don't eat a lot of Mexican food but when I do, Hildago is the only place I go. The food is sooo good, everyone who works here is so friendly and you get a ton of food for the price. This is the only place we go to where when we call the chick knows who we are, what we most likely want to order and who will be picking it up. They are the total package. Right off the bat what you notice is how clean this place is. It is literally the cleanest restaurant I have ever been to. All these years later it still looks like the day it opened. I'm embarrassed to say this place is probably cleaner than my own kitchen and dining room. My family and myself have had quite a selection of their menu and we have never had a meal we didn't like. Some of my personal favorites are the beef or chicken chimichanga and the chicken enchilada suizas. My all time favorite though are their pork tamales. I have never been a tamale fan before but these ones from Hidalgo are something to behold. They are moist, they come with this gravy/sauce on them and melted cheese and they are REALLY delicious. I'm apparently not the only one who is fond of them because 3 out of the last 5 times I've ordered here they were completely sold out. Hidalgo's location isn't the greatest, it's kinda off the beaten path so I felt it was more important than usual to write a review for them so out of towners would consider making the trek out here and giving them a try. The food here hails from the Hildalgo state in Mexico and so is set apart from some of the "regular" Mexican or Tex/Mex food served elsewhere. It's authentic because the owner/chef is from Hildalgo. Always check the white board at the entrance for daily specials. Anything there or from the menu will be muy bueno! And if you are looking for a good margarita, you've found it! This place is always spotless and the staff is very attentive and informative about the menu and ingredients. They also feature gluten free. We have been looking for authentic Mexican food nearby and found Hidalgo. Their food was very tasty and service was fast. We have eaten inside and picked up carry out. All the food was good either way. We love the barria quesadillas and tacos with the au jus on the side. Crystal R inspired me to try this place. My parents had been and had not been hugely impressed so I did not bother to swing in until recently. If you are not a Belleville regular you will find this place difficult to find, it has a smallish sign and is in a strip mall that is hidden behind other buildings. The restaurant itself is pretty unassuming but the people who are running the place are extremely friendly and eager to please. Food is decent, prices are fair. There is some nickle and diming on things which is a peeve of mine. Paying for extra salsa, etc. I guess that is pretty common but it still irks me. The enchiladas suizas I tried were respectable (although I wish pork were an option as a filling) as were the pork tamales my husband sampled. Neither were awe inspiring but neither were they disappointments. The egg dishes from the chilaquiles to the huevos con chorizo all seem to work, gosh I do love a jazzed up egg. I am sad to see that they are limited on meat selections for a Mexican place touting themselves as authentic in big capital letters but I realize my expections of authentic Mexican can sometimes piss my fellow Yelpers off so I will not push the point further. You can slurp up some tasty-ish menudo here, which does ease my stance at any rate. For Belleville, it works. read more

After finding out that I have to avoid gluten in my diet, we had to stop going to our old favorite Mexican pace. We heard from a friend that Hidalgo was very friendly to those with food allergies. They also sponsored the musical at Lincoln High School so we definitely wanted to try them out. I'm so glad that we did! We have been twice now. Both times the service was excellent. We never had to ask for refills on anything. The food was superb. We have a couple of younger kids and they couldn't wait to go back after our first visit. That is high praise from them! The adults in our group were very pleased with our food both times as well. The salsa is a wonderful chunky homemade version. It's great on the chips as well as just about everything else. The tacos are great. The burritos are too. We've tried several of the daily specials and been pleased. For those with food allergies, they are willing to take time to go over everything on the menu that you can eat or that they can modify so you can eat it. For gluten allergies this means about two thirds of the menu is available to you. I would recommend Hidalgo to everyone without any hesitation. Try it, you'll like it! read more

The last few times I've bought food and drinks from here, I haven't had a bad experience. The first time I had visited here, I had forgotten my ID in a different pair of pants and the manager said despite forgetting my identification, they told me I appeared to pass for well over twenty-one years old. The last time I was in the area, I tried their house-made Sangria and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was even though it was the first time I had Sangria. Very very good. Went tonight for the first time and had two of the specials for the family. Both were incredibly tender. The first, a pork dish over rice, and the second, a beef dish with peppers. Very unique Ordered take out, which was nice since I was able to enjoy a beer while I waited. I have now tried this place twice and both times were amazing!! I tried to remember to take pictures but ate too fast:) I have ordered the Diablo Shrimp and the Belleville Boat. Both were outstanding. The shrimp had the perfect spice. Even the side of Rice was tasty. It is very hard for me to find carry out Mexican food that I enjoy however this place is 5 stars. The service is also 5 stars. Both times when I called she was very very polite and helpful. When I ordered today I had someone else pick it up. When she walked in to pick it up the young lady greeted her by name. The place has been extremely clean both times.
