Nachos

I just bought a home not far from here and decided to get dinner for my girls who helped me move. We got carry out. We had: mushroom quesadillas, chips, salsa, guac, nachos and asada street tacos w horchata. Everything was fab, esp the horchata. We will definitely return to dine in.

So I went here because I was waiting on some pizzas to get done for a game night and I have some time to kill. I stopped in and went straight to the bar. Got a shot and a Texas Margarita, it was pretty good. The Frozen one was on tap so I did that to make it a little quicker. The bartender really didn't interact a whole lot, not the end of the world, but having to ask for straws or something like that was a little bit of a hassle. Only because I know about bartending, you kind of want to make sure you address that when you drop the drink off, but it happens. They dropped off some chips while we waited, the trips were actually good. Good sauce on the chips. Came on hot. For a Mexican restaurant, that's important! The environment was super clean. Even the bathroom. There are probably a ton of other Mexican restaurants, but this one was pretty okay. Not something to run to, but if you're in the area, and a little shopping plaza, you can stop in for a bit.

New-ish restaurant in the strip mall by Planet Fitness. It's clean and nicely decorated, rather bright and a bit gaudy. Service is immediate and very friendly. The food is pretty standard, highly Americanized "Mexican" fare. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. There is absolutely nothing authenticly Mexican here, but if you're used to Ameri-Mex and don't mind bland food, it's alright. I had a bowl of tortilla soup, and the enchiladas Rojas entrée. It was a lot of food, easily sharable. After putting a LOT of salsa on it, then resorting to the bottled hot sauce on the table, I got some flavor going. If you want "Mexican", and have that friend or family member that doesn't like spicy food, bring them here.

What a sub-par experience. I stopped in with my fiancee…read moreafter the gym because neither of us wanted to cook. I had been to Dos Pesos before many years ago and recalled it being good. She had not, and it was a poor first visit. We were greeted and seated, it took nearly 10 minutes to get water and chips/salsa. In chatting with the waitress we learned about the specials. Quesabirria is something we had been trying more of lately... so we asked about it and if we could get it in different items or if it was only served as tacos. She had to be new... After placing an order, she came back a few minutes later and told us what we ordered couldn't be customized and we needed to order something else... So we got our menus back and ordered completely different entrees. We also had put in an app of queso fundido to come out before the meal. Naturally, it came out at the same time. The queso fundido was extremly soupy. It said it had ranchero sauce in it... but it was basically enchilada sauce with a little cheese and meat... would not recommend for a cheesey app. She ordered a chimichanga with no sour or guac. Which was correct. She said the chimi was very bland. If it wasnt for the rice and beans, her meal would have been terrible. I ordered the fajitas, i paid extra to get steak, shrimp, and chicken... part of what makes fajitas good..... is the sizzler. It comes out still on a hot plate, smelling up the place, and cooking in front of you. My cast iron sizzler was luke warm at best...i think the cheese they tossed on and put it under a broiler/salamander until it melted and it came out. It lacked seasoning.. lacked heat... just an overall bad experience. Such a disappointing dinner. The bathrooms were clean however, and so was the establishment.. so it wont get a one star, but there is sooooo much more that could have gone better.

I might just have a new favorite taco spot in Ypsi. If you're looking for an unassuming restaurant…read morethat provides killer food at a reasonable price - look no further! I've been to Taqueria La Marqueza a few times now and each time has left me wanting to go back immediately. The food is spectacular, and the staff is super friendly; they were really helpful in trying to understand the best options. My personal recommendation: get the Chorizo! It's fantastically seasoned, and truly leaves you wanting to eat about 7 metric tons of it. It's great in the tacos, and their burrito is an excellent value as well. If you're doing a takeout order, my pro-tip is to get some tacos and order a burrito for lunch the next day! The restaurant's red & green salsas are both excellent -- make sure to grab some extra because you'll probably want to drink it with a straw. Still reading the review? Is Taqueria La Marqueza open? If yes, go order some food!

I'm leaving this review because of the way a mistake with my order was handled--not simply because…read morean item was forgotten. I placed a large takeout order at La Marqueza Taqueria and, after getting home, discovered that my $11.56 chicken quesadilla was completely missing from the bag. Mistakes happen. Someone forgetting a quesadilla would not, by itself, have caused me to leave a negative review. What bothered me was the response when I tried to get the situation resolved. The employee told me, essentially, "I'm not giving you anything. I'm not the owner. The owner is out of town for the next two weeks. I don't have contact with him. I'm here by myself. There is no compensation for you." My choices were to drive all the way back to the restaurant so he could make the quesadilla, or drive all the way back to receive my $11.56 refund. That means the restaurant made the mistake, but I had to absorb the time, gas, and inconvenience required to correct it. I wasn't expecting anything outrageous or trying to get free food. I simply asked whether there was anything they could do to acknowledge the fact that their mistake required me to make an additional round trip. There wasn't. What was especially concerning was being told that the person working apparently had no authority to resolve a customer-service problem beyond replacing or refunding the missing item, couldn't contact the owner, and that the owner wouldn't be available for two weeks. A restaurant can make a mistake. What matters is how it handles that mistake. An $11.56 quesadilla turned into a much bigger customer-service issue than it ever needed to be. A simple gesture or even an effort to acknowledge the inconvenience would have gone a long way. Instead, I was basically told: come back for your food, come back for your money, or there's nothing else I can do for you. That experience definitely affected whether I would choose to spend my money here again.
