What a sub-par experience. I stopped in with my fiancee after the gym because neither of us wanted to cook. I had been to Dos Pesos before many years ago and recalled it being good. She had not, and it was a poor first visit. We were greeted and seated, it took nearly 10 minutes to get water and chips/salsa. In chatting with the waitress we learned about the specials. Quesabirria is something we had been trying more of lately... so we asked about it and if we could get it in different items or if it was only served as tacos. She had to be new... After placing an order, she came back a few minutes later and told us what we ordered couldn't be customized and we needed to order something else... So we got our menus back and ordered completely different entrees. We also had put in an app of queso fundido to come out before the meal. Naturally, it came out at the same time. The queso fundido was extremly soupy. It said it had ranchero sauce in it... but it was basically enchilada sauce with a little cheese and meat... would not recommend for a cheesey app. She ordered a chimichanga with no sour or guac. Which was correct. She said the chimi was very bland. If it wasnt for the rice and beans, her meal would have been terrible. I ordered the fajitas, i paid extra to get steak, shrimp, and chicken... part of what makes fajitas good..... is the sizzler. It comes out still on a hot plate, smelling up the place, and cooking in front of you. My cast iron sizzler was luke warm at best...i think the cheese they tossed on and put it under a broiler/salamander until it melted and it came out. It lacked seasoning.. lacked heat... just an overall bad experience. Such a disappointing dinner. The bathrooms were clean however, and so was the establishment.. so it wont get a one star, but there is sooooo much more that could have gone better. read more

I Absolutely love Dos Peso on Van Buren Township Michigan. The Food is always fresh snd extremely delicious. Ample Parking and the Restaurant is always Clean. The prices are low in comparison to most restaurants in the area. The wait staff are punctual and attentive. Quaint place. read more

The ingredients are always fresh, the taste is authentic & I leave feeling satisfied & stuffed to the brim. The fajitas are great, I like to order melted cheese on top, 10/10 would recommend. The only bad thing about Dos Pesos is they are far away from my house. Discovered them when I lived in Belleville 9 years ago and I still go back a few times a year. To begin you get 2 free different salsas; hot and mild. I'm not one for spicy so I stick with the yummy mild. They are quick to bring you more if you eat it all. I always get the bean and cheese dinner combination, with cheese on top. My friend always gets the chicken enchiladas and she loves them. The service is attentive and friendly. I love this place becomes the family that owns it works there and it feels homey there. It's not fancy, it's not recently renovated....It's a place with good food and good service at an extremely reasonable price. read more

I ordered a side of chips and a side of cheese along with my entree which was a shredded chicken quesadilla. I'm so dumb and just saw that chips and salsa are supposed to be included in each order and fully thought that the side of cheese was dipping cheese. So I paid for chips and shredded cheese and my quesadilla had beef instead of chicken. I'm dumb and messed up a lot of the order and the entree wasn't right lol. Dos Pesos is not huge food, neither is it all that spectacular a bargain. It is worth a trip though as it is amazingly fresh and tasty. Dos Pesos has single handedly the best guacamole I have ever tasted. It is served as an appetizer on a big plate with a load of equally excellent pico de gallo and is worth the trip to this place alone. The chips are fresh and neither too oily or too salty. Mmmmm. It is definitely big enough for three or four people. Another item I am quite hooked on here is the Quesadillas. The cheese variety are nice with their guac accent but the shrimp variety are even better. Not greasy at all. Just perfect. The Wet Burrito is a hugely popular choice, saucy and big. The Chicken Chimi was good but honestly I just can't think past the Quesadillas. All entrees come with nice beans and rice. The service is efficient yet not friendly and there is just not an air of fun here but it doesn't stop my enjoyment of the food. A word of warning though, you will be nickled and dimed on anything extra here, even lettuce. That makes me a bit sad. You do need to visit here at least once. Try the guac appetizer and some quesadillas and you will be very happy. read more

This is a review I've been meaning to write for awhile now. One of my favorite places when I need a fix. I've been thinking of this place for awhile now. To put it simply, it is fabulous! Being a creature of habit, I always order the same thing. I know I know, I like what I like, why change a beautiful thing? Anyway moving on I get the chicken quesedillas which is really three small flour grilled tortillas stuffed with the most delicious flavorful moist chicken everrr! Melted cheese and garnished with tomato, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. Omg it's hella good! The rice and beans great and salsa yum. To boot each dish is garnished with jicama, a nice touch to clean the palette. Quite satisfying and never seen before as a garnishment at any restaurant before. This place is located in beautiful downtown Belleville, and is very reasonable, with a full bar. Service has always been excellent. A visit really is in order: ) read more

We just moved to Belleville and wanted to try out this Mexican restaurant that was nearby. The good: Service was good. The woman who waited on us was attentive and very friendly. Chips were filled and I got the cheese chorizo dip. Cheese tasted just like taco Bell nacho cheese that I hadn't had since I was a kid so the nostalgia was neat but kind of a poor quality taste. The bad: I got chicken enchiladas. It comes with beans and rice. At most Mexican restaurants I look forward to the beans and rice but they tasted like... Nothing. Really disappointing, dry, bland. The enchiladas had a lot of thick cheese piled on top which I find to be really unappetizing so unless you're a huge fan of cheese, ask for light cheese. The chicken inside was like canned shredded. Also tasted boring and dry. Enchilada sauce is usually predictable in taste but something made it taste really bitter. So after some unsatisfying bites of shredded chicken and bitter sauce, I was done. I should've mentioned it to the server but I got a stomach ache and just wanted to go. I've been eating at Dos Peso for over 25 years. The owner and his family are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! The food is really good and the portions are plentiful. The restaurant has always been very clean when I've been there. I recommend Dos Peso for a great big Margarita and some good ole fashioned tacos!! read more

I've never written a one-star review, and if writing a poor review has to be prefaced by a bad restaurant experience, I hope never to have to do it again. We went here on a recommendation from a co-worker and were extremely sorry that we made the drive. The tacos and enchiladas hovered around the quality of junior high school cafeteria food. I'm all for fusions, so my gripe isn't about inauthenticity. Yes, the food is inauthentic Mexican, but its real sin is in being soppy, flavorless, and leaving an aftertaste of Wonderbread soaked in fat. The paste-filled enchiladas are covered with a frightening sauce, and the flour tortilla tacos with bland ground meat are covered with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. Yes, these toppings help to hide the disasters beneath them, but they don't enhance the eating experience. I'm also not comparing this to fine dining, because I'm all for slumming it with cheap food (it's not nearly cheap enough here either). This stuff was just terrible food, as if all the evils of canned refried beans possessed everything else with their lardy badness. All that said, the waitress was very nice, and it seemed like everyone around us was really enjoying their margaritas. This may be the key, but my friend's margarita was too weak to have a beer goggle effect on her food. Everyone (er, almost everyone) is entitled to their opinion, and this place has a bit of a love it or hate it response in Yelp. Guess you'll have to try it and see (but hide some cilantro and hot sauce in your pocket to throw on the food). If you don't like the food, think of your higher than expected bill as a contribution to the local economy of Belleville. read more

I really wish I could give this place another star but the food is just okay at best. I'm a Texas native so I practically bleed enchilada sauce and miss some of the great Tex Mex joints from back home. The food here isn't terrible and a lot of people seem to like this place, it's just not for me. Beans taste canned, rice is not very flavorful and tortillas are store bought. (If you have not tasted a made from scratch flour tortilla you don't know what your missing.) This is one of my favorite places for Mexican food. While the experience may not be quite like going downtown to Xochimilcos. My husband and I feel that this is the next best thing. The guacamole has got to be the best that I have had anywhere. It is chunky with very little lime bite. I don't like my guacamole pureed to green slime and doused with lime. I'm very particular about my guacamole and having ordered at hundreds of restaurants, this is hands down the best guacamole that I've ever had. I really like the chicken filling. It is chunks of white meat and clearly discernable as chicken, not some stringy mess of dark meat. It isn't overly spicy either which appeals to me. The unique garnish of jicama is also notable. I like how it takes the heat out of a spicy bite. We have eaten at several area restaurants that serve Mexican fare and prefer Dos Pesos based on the freshness factor and the fact that the dishes are not overly spicy. They have recently added Flan to their dessert menu. It is amazing! read more

I'd like to write a better review for this place because the owner and management are so nice but alas i cannot. Dos Pesos drops the ball on one of the biggest areas of discrepancy in mexican food: bang for the buck. A steak quesadilla should not be over 10 dollars. The only reason I leave this place full is because of the chips and salsa. There's a wide variety on the menu and the waitstaff is nice enough, but the price for a lot of it just doesn't seem justified for the portion size. The salsa is a B-, it's not bad but its nothing special. This place could also use a decor refresh, as it seems that they've had the same setup since they've opened. read more

Dos Peso is your average Mexican Food stop. There were a few things that take it down a notch for me. In general - when Mexican restaurants have to "water" or "dumb" it down for the Caucasian local crowds. It really bothers me. Basically - those restaurants are not "great" and certainly can't be considered authentic. Unfortunately - the Caucasian raving about bland Mexican food is what propagates these types of establishments (not in a positive way). Dos peso food is the bland run of the mill taste. They have a more authentic approach / spin - no doubt; but what they gain in some more authentic menu items they lose in the bland taste. Everything seemed to run together and taste like you were just eating a pile of refried beans with some meat and cheese mixed in. I felt the chips (with salsa) were stale and maybe had been around a while. They were not warm (like some good establishments) and just not appetizing. The salsa was average (certainly have had better). We had the Botana as an appetizer and it probably was the best part of the meal. Had a lot of fresh ingredients (Avocado, Onion, Tomato, Olives, etc.). But, it lacked in that it did not really blend or meld together well. So you couldn't get the full impact of all flavors and tastes as one. I had the burrito (wet) - my wife the enchiladas. For myself - the burrito and the "gravy sauce" was a nice touch and basically score a "good but not great" rating. Over the course of eating it - it again - just sort of ran together in correlation to the beans and rice and I didn't feel anything exemplifying about it. My wife's enchilada's had a nice red sauce and may have been better (she seemed to enjoy it). The wait staff was friendly and prompt. I have not complaints there. But - as I was sitting there I happened to take an extended view of the restaurant and looking up at the ceiling - noticed cob webs the likes of something you see in a Halloween Scare House or your Michigan Basement Crawl Space. I think that may have ruined it for me to be honest. Anyone doubting my comment - there still there (believe me - they don't just turn up one day like that) so go take a peek for yourself. I only imagine what might be happening back near the cook line if they can't take care of the front. The entire restaurant itself is really outdated and shabby looking (not to pile on). I guess - if I was a restaurant owner I think I could AT LEAST once a year do a thorough cleaning and wipe the place down. That includes ceiling cob webs. In conclusion - and who names there restaurant "Two Pesos" / Two Weights (The English translation for Dos Peso). Seems odd. But then again - it's Belleville. Dos Pesos has a very midwest diner feel to it... that's ok though, because it is a locally owned establishment that has authentic mexican food. Guacamole is delicious. Also - not sure who their vendor is, but the meat is always tasty, and I love that about this place! Not too extensive of a menu, but has the basics that you would expect from a mexican cuisine diner. Probably a little more expensive that is should be... still enjoyable overall, though. read more

Again, I really want to see local restaurants do well here in Belleville, but after stopping in at Dos Pesos for the first time I feel compelled to write a review. My wife and I split a jumbo Margarita which was without a doubt the lowest quality restaurant margarita I've ever had. The drink was separated and didn't have close to enough ice. Also, there was a thick frothy later on top and the taste of low low quality tequila was overpowering. Service was sub par. We got our food quickly enough but our group did not have silverware when it arrived so we sat and looked at our food for a few minutes before we could eat it. My wife and I split nachos botanas which is our favorite at other Mexican restaurants. This dish did not compare. The onions were overpowering, the cheese was not nacho quality and weirdly there were whole green olives on the entire thing. The best way I could describe the dish was dry and full of past ripe vegetables. Needless to say after our first trip here, we won't back. It's worth a few minutes longer of a drive to find decent Mexican food. read more

Wasn't the worst but certainly not the best. The prices were a bit high in comparison to their portions , and the chips were blah and lacked flavor. The cheese dip tasted like off brand nacho cheese with odd clumps in it. My chicken quesadilla was decent but the chicken was super watery - so when I picked it up to eat it - it spilled out of the bottom and got everywhere. Beef tasted like home made taco meat with cheap seasoning and greasy - not like regular taco meat from a Mexican restaurant. Husband got steak fajitas with melted cheese which were great but $16 , and the entire platter fit into 3 small tortilla shells. Normally when we get fajitas , there is enough on the sizzling platter to make 5-7 fajitas at any other restaurant. It was Ok for a quick dinner while in the area waiting for next day flight at airport. Wouldn't come back , but it wasn't the worst. read more

Dos Pesos is my favorite Mexican place. It isn't fancy, but it tastes really good. The portions are good. You won't be hungry when you're done. The service is good. The chips and salsa are brought out as soon as you sit down. They are my favorite chips. Fresh, crunchy, lightly salted with great corn taste. The guacamole is the best I've had in a restaurant. For dinner I recommend the wet burrito. The beef stew that they use to top it is always cooked to perfection. I've tried most of the tortilla based traditional entrees and been very happy with them. The only thing on the menu I can't recommend is the fajitas. They needed more seasoning in my opinion. read more
