Restaurants seemed to be few and far between in the area we were in but we eventually came across Sapporo Japanese & Thai Restaurant. Although we were hungry, we opted for their a la carte menu, rather than their AYCE Sushi. We ordered Spicy Basil Beef and Thai Curry Chicken. Both dishes were very reasonably priced at $10.00 and $12.00, including rice. Pretty good deal! The flavours were actually quite good and the portions were more than reasonable. We fished it ALL, with my friend even asking for more rice. She really enjoyed it! With good food and friendly service, check this place out if you're in downtown Hamilton.

Love the vibes, very casual, and the server was really friendly too. She was super enthusiastic when our group requested sake bombs. This was my first time going to an AYCE izakaya, and it made me wish there was one where I live. The highlight was definitely the beef teriyaki - comes out sizzling hot. The chicken teriyaki felt sad in comparison lol. Sushi was pretty good quality as well. Melona bars to top off the night! Would come back here always if I was in the area.

Let me state up front that the food is great. It's fresh and there's a good selection…read more My reason for giving 3 stars is the choice of seating and the service. We went as a group of 7 with a reservation. For some reason, instead of seating a larger group at the stand alone (but combinable tables) at the front of the restaurant, they decided to sit us at a booth that holds six with the +1 in a chair in the pathway to the bathroom. Ordering food is done on 2 pieces of paper - one for sushi and one for all the other food. Unlike many other AYCE restaurants, there is no description of the food and there's no iPad to see a photo of what you might be ordering. It makes it very difficult to select, and the waiters are really not around to ask questions. They wanted all 7 of us to use the single paper. I explained to the waiter that I wasn't at a restaurant to do math and add up all the pieces and orders and go person by person. Could we possibly get a second set of papers so we could split the table into 2 groups? Yes, but with great difficulty. The food started to come. Overall, very fast from paper to food. So, where did they put the food? Right in front of me as one if the people sitting at the end. They would place plate after plate in front of me. Often with no explanation of what food it was. Apparently, it is the person at the end of the table's job to announce the food and identify the person(s) who it belongs to. So, with the number of dishes ordered, there was little opportunity for me to eat. There was also no place for me to place my food on the table in front of me. It was beyond frustrating. Along the way, they began forgetting to deliver food that was ordered and they began delivering food we did not order. I believe the restaurant should have placed us at the tables at the front of the restaurant. All large groups would benefit front this and all would be able to enjoy the food.

BUT WAS I WRONG. Although the prices were higher, it made up for it with the HUMONGOUS portions and surprisingly fresh fish!! We've tried a variety of their specialty rolls and dinner sets. I'd personally skip out on their tuna sashimi, but everything else we've had so far was delicious! I recommend calling in advance to place your order (usually takes ~20min to prepare). The owner has always been pleasant and packs our order nicely. Definitely our favourite spot to get take-out food in Fergus :)

I typically order the sushi boat: Momo Combo and you can taste the freshness in the sushi pieces and sashimi. This boat typically serves 2 people. Service was a little bit slower the last time I went but usually they're really friendly. Absolutely love having Nicki as our server because she always remembers us and our orders. She works very efficiently and always served us with a smile. As for the interior of the restaurant, it could use a bit of work/renovations to make it feel more like a Japanese restaurant. It kinda gives off a western vibe. They took away some tables/chairs so there's limited seating now. Due to this reason, we sometimes call in to reserve a table during weekends and peak times, and to pre-order our sushi boat before arriving. This way our meal is ready when we arrive and we also don't have to wait for a table!

I've gotten the katsudon a couple times too, and it's a good meal. Comes with miso soup and salad. Which, the salad is basically a leaf of lettuce with a bit of odd carrot dressing. The all you can eat is as you would expect it. It's nothing to write home about. The quantity of the sushi definitely outweighs the quality, that's for sure. The interior is quite small, but it's cozy. There's a couple back areas for larger groups. I want to sit there one of these days. All in all, it's worth it's price, but make sure you go with a good group of friends to keep you entertained while you wait. It does get busy!

Service was friendly, and the food came out at a good pace even though it got a bit busy during our visit. We ordered a few items to share. The hwe dup bap (sashimi rice bowl) had fresh sashimi over rice with vegetables, it was light, refreshing, and a good choice if you're not looking for something too heavy. The chirashi bowl came with a nice assortment of sashimi and generous portions. The fish tasted fresh and there was a good variety. We also tried the salmon avocado roll, which was a classic, simple combination done well, and the spicy salmon roll, which had a mild kick and good texture overall. Overall, this was a solid spot for fresh sushi with good portion sizes, especially if you're looking for a casual place to eat in Waterloo.

The quality was decent, though it felt a bit pricey for what was served. That said, the experience was still pleasant thanks to the very friendly staff, which made us feel welcome despite the late hour. The restaurant itself felt a little dated and could benefit from some renovations, but it was a solid, reliable option when choices were limited late at night.

Here's why: PROS: Location - off a main road, easy to find, parking is free Menu options - Good selection of items Taste & Presentation of food - Very good... food was tasty (with the exception of the Pad Thai in my opinion) and the seafood was fresh. Portions were good too. Service - Very attentive, quick and professional staff; conversation toward the end made them even better! Value - Price for all you can eat was very reasonable, worth it if you ask me! CONS: Ambiance - Floor was slippery (literally the entire floor surface, as though it had buildup of substance, it was odd.). Also the seating and general look of the place is quite old & outdated. IN SUMMARY: Overall ambiance is a factor in deciding on a restaurant, but is more important to me for a special occasion or on date night. When I dine out, taste, service and value are what mean the most to me. As for this restaurant, I would for sure go back! It's a great little local spot. As I upload the pics I'm also getting hungry again and that's always a good sign!!!
