We normally go to Osaka for Hibachi, but they were closed from Christmas to New Years. We were out running errands, and we decided to give Hibachi Cafe a try. When you walk in, there is a counter where you place your order. It isn't a server style setup. You pay for your items, and they are brought out to your table. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, and my husband got the Rock n Roll to start. I usually get my sushi rolls made with soy paper, but they don't offer that here. Usually, the Shrimp Tempura Roll doesn't come with sauce on it. My husband is a Type 1 Diabetic so had that of been his roll we would've had to send it back with all that sugar. Not sure why this came with sauce. I always get mine on the side. We both really loved our rolls. We ended up taking our hibachi to go because we loved our rolls so much we finished them and were full. We both got Chicken and Shrimp Hibachi. The hibachi was okay. One of the things I've struggled with moving to SC, is how flavorless the fried rice is. The rice was lacking in flavor, and the rest was okay. Right before closing my finance and I ordered a meal to go Hibachi chicken with chicken fried rice I asked them to sub my plain fried rice with chicken rice.. the lady stated that will be an extra $4.... really? I tokd her go ahead and do it so my $11.95 meal went to $15.95. my finance ordered beef fried rice with egg.. she says egg is $2 extra GEEZ! Beef fried rice w egg went from $9 and some change to $11 and some change. Plus tax. My problem is you charge us $4 for chicken fried rice only to find out we still have plain fried rice. Our order was repeated back twice and when given to us she repeated it a third time " hibachi chicken with chicken fried rice and an order of beef fried rice with egg. Shame on me for not double checking behind her before leaving, the hibachi taste okay a little dry but edible. I've eaten st Hobachi Cafe many times before the one Verde with no disappointment. We have driven by this restaurant so many times in the last 2 years and never stopped. We always wanted to but never pulled the trigger. There's a mixed bag here. It's used to be wait staff serving you as other commenters stated. Now it's order at the counter and fill your own drink. Serve yourself, but there's no real tip required or expected, but there's a small tip jar in case you fill generous. Some may not like that part but we didn't mind. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty and good portions as well. We ordered water to cut down on sugar and price too. The dinning room was very quiet so you can have a good conversation and relax. Prices were very reasonable and with the portions given I don't see how you can do better on value. This will be our new "go to" Asian restaurant. I tried to ask myself what could keep this place from a 5 star but couldn't find a reason. read more

Good place for a quick and cheap Hibachi lunch. This place didn't knock my socks off, but it was a tasty hibachi - basically exactly what I expected for a Japanese lunch special. The serving was big, the chicken, broccoli and rice were all scrumptious, and they included 2 side containers of that amazingly delicious, mayo-based, white sauce that is served at a typical sit-down Japanese steakhouse. I can't speak to the rest of the menu (which is pretty extensive), but I would stop here again for Hibachi if I needed something quick and inexpensive and had a hankering for Japanese food. :) read more

This place has gone downhill in the last few months. Been twice in the last couple weeks and left disappointed both times. First, they don't wait on you any longer. We ate here when they first opened, but that was several years ago. An owner of another restaurant reminded me about Hibachi Cafe so we decided to give it another try today after church with the family. When we came in the server sat us quickly and came by to take our drink order and our food order. We ordered entirely too much food, but it gave us a great opportunity to try several of their dishes. The Shrimp Gyoza were moist and tasty, the dipping sauce was especially nice. The Egg Rolls were crisp and roughly the temperature of the son. The sushi rolls were all enjoyed by the kids and accompanied my daughter's salad. I ordered the House Lo Mein and asked if I could get that spicy. The server let me know you can order their dishes spicy on a scale of one to ten. I ordered a spice level of eight, but I received a spice level of zero. They did bring me a side dish of sambol to go with it, but the sambol wasn't spicy either. My wife ordered the beef in Garlic Sauce, which for some reason tasted sweet and a little like catsup. I went here after partaking in a few beers next door. I should have known better & I should have simply turned around and left as soon as I walked in and was overtaken by the smell overly fried sweet MSG'ed American Style Oriental food. On the authenticity scale of 1 to 10 this place rates a1 at best. Typically over Americanized with way too much sauce and flavor enhancers. The $ are low and the portions are large, & in retrospect that is why the place was packed. It certainly was not for the flavor. Now, the wait staff was friendly and the kitchen was lightening quick. A little too quick. My order (General Chou Chicken - extra crispy & extra spicy) was literally on the table in the time it took me to Check in on FB & Yelp. It has temperature hot, but it was not crispy and the sauce was more sweet that spicy. My best comparison is that it seemed like the kitchen took the sweet/sour sauce and sprinkled in some red chillies. NOT impressed. Very much a throw back to my college days of large portion at low prices all in exchange for quality and taste. The only thing saving this from a 1 star is the efficiency and friendliness of the wait staff. I would not return nor would I recommend this to family or friends. We were hungry and decided to go in. We sat ourselves down and had to wait an extended period of time because there was only one waitress and a lot of people sitting at tables. Eventually she took our order. 45 to 55 minutes later we were still sitting waiting for Food to arrive. While the food itself was ok, the rice was tasteless , the eggrolls were good and the cucumber rolls very tasty. This is not a simple place to pop into for lunch unless you have the time. Lunch for about five bucks and dinner for ten? You betcha. Pretty decent grub and service too. We went after church and got right in. Hibachi Cafe is by far my favorite place to get fast, fresh, and delicious Asian food. They have a large menu with many options from curry to hibachi. Their sushi is excellent as well. The prices are low and the portions are large. If you order in restaurant or for delivery, it is ready in under 15 minutes. I often order this when leaving work and it is always ready for pickup by the time I arrive. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Great little spot in Greer. read more

This place used to be our go to take out, but since they changed chefs we've been nothing but disappointed. The tofu used be done well, but lately it's been super dried out and fried to almost inedible. Every time I ask for low oil it comes out with 2 inches of grease floating above the sauce. Terrible.
