I think the fresh teas are borderline unsweetened, but the appropriate toppings (esp rainbow jelly, lychee jelly, possibly mango pearls) can be the sweetener. Unfortunately, Maui doesn't have many choices when it comes to bubble tea locations. This is the third time we've had drinks here and this last time was a huge disappointment. Hokulani ordered the taro coconut "smoothie" with boba. Ummm...shouldn't it have been blended?!? It was extremely watery and tasted like terrible quality minimal powder. She took a few sips and said that she was done. I told her not to waste and she told me to take a sip. Yikes! Honestly, one of the worst "boba drinks" that I have personally tasted. This is my daughter's favorite place for boba drinks. It's located in the second floor of Kaahumanu Center and seems to be popular with the younger crowd. My honeydew had ample boba, but tasted a little light on the flavoring. They may have been busy, but I wanted my boba drink to me on the colder side on a hot day. Overall, the service was okay. Hawaii's first Hi Tea location has moved spots in the Queen Kaahumanu Center Queen's Market Food Court, taking over the space vacated by McDonald's with a complete renovation. Their previous spot was formerly occupied by long-gone Bautista's Filipino Kitchen and the sorely missed Edo Japan, with a kitchen set up that probably didn't work for them as they serve mainly boba drinks and smoothies. But, they now serve bento lunches which prompts this updated review. I actually spotted food pics on Hi Tea's Ala Moana Yelp page. Excited, I jumped on the QKC location's page in which someone mentioned "bentos" in their review. Curious, I zoomed on in. As I approached the counter, it was lined with mixed bentos of all kinds and combinations - gyoza, musubi, yakisoba, garlic chicken, shrimp and teriyaki chicken, served only during the lunch hour. They looked similar to the ones at TJ's in Wailuku so I had to ask. Turns out they make all of their bentos in-house! Nice! Their Ala Moana location serves made-to-order foods, not bento plates. FOOD: Pork Yakisoba - $5.95 The portion size was very good for the price and definitely filled up my piggy belly. The noodles were subtly flavored but the slices of tender pork made up for it with bold & savory flavors, eliminating the need for shoyu. The only downfall were the stir fried onions which were too undercooked to my liking and very pungent. SERVICE: I was immediately greeted by a smiley and friendly gal. She took the time to explain their bento selections and that they're made in-house. My husband and I came by HiTea on Tuesday late afternoon, a little before 4 pm for some tea. We ended up getting #70 Taro Coconut Milk Tea, $5.16 after tax. This drink looked and smelled really artificial, and well tasted pretty bad too. The drink was rather powdery, which truly disappointed me. I thought it was funny that this place has pictures of fresh fruit all over their drink menu and also does mention that they use fresh fruit.... yeah, it was once fresh before it was turn into a powder.... fail! This drink was too sweet (my husband forgot to request this drink to be made with less sweetener) and automatically came iced and with boba. The boba itself was okay. Even though I only tried one drink from their vast menu, I wouldn't give this place another chance (even if I lived in Maui). By the way, wait time for our drink to be made was not long at all. Majority of their smoothie boba are made with actual fruit (according to their signs). What I enjoy about HiTEA is that they have numerous options for you to choose from no matter what you are looking to try. In addition to boba they have recently started to sell poke and other pre-made food items. Service is fairly quick and I've never had any issues with my orders except for once where they ran out of boba. But the cashier and server at the time was apologetic and immediately offered another option at no additional charge. In lieu of boba I had their grass jelly which was just as delicious. I believe they're all one size, large. Milk/fresh tea cost $4.95 and additional toppings(extra tapioca, mango jelly, rainbow jelly, coffee jelly, soft grass jelly, lychee jelly, passion fruit jelly or Azuki beans) for $0.50ea. Boba smoothies cost $5.75 for all drinks excluding avocado drinks which cost $6.25. Drinks that have the green circle around them are made with 100% fresh or real fruit. Drinks with the purple circle is made with powder. I always get the honeydew and it is amazing! Total was $5.99. They blend it then place it in a cup where is then put under a machine to seal that bad boy up. Super quick service. There were 3 drinks ahead of mines and got my drink in about 3-4 minutes after paying. Sometimes they have food available for purchase. Person with me ordered and let me order next. Girl started calculating the order and we weren't done yet. I start to say my order and she's raising her voice, getting shrill, and getting rude.
