Hi-Five Doughnuts is a Butchertown/NULU neighborhood of Louisville donut shop that is pretty highly regarded in the city of Lousiville. After having Hi-Five on my to do list for a long time I finally made the trip here the other day on a late morning around 11am on a spring Thursday with my wife and two youngest daughters. You walk into the brightly colored yellow building and the interior is very vibrant and has fun decor. They have a few donuts out in a glass for selections and a decent sized menu. My 2 year old daughter got in the Easter spirit which was a few days away and got an Easter designed donut. She kept pointing at the Pastel colored designed heart and a coconut donut that had a peep on it. We told her she wouldn't like coconuts and the lovely worker must have been paying close attention because when she brought out her heart shaped Easter donut she put a peep on it which made for a happy 2 year old girl. So very nice and sweet of the worker to do that without us even asking her too. They have a combo where you can pick a glazed donut which a few glazed options and double it up with a group of glazed toppings to choose from. I got two donuts from This combo. I went with a chocolate glazed and topped it with chocolate chips and I got a cinnamon glazed and topped it with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My wife went with the unique KY Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich which is a chicken Sandwich that uses glazed donuts for the buns. We both also got some hot chocolates. Everything we go here was great. The donuts are rather large, super fluffy packed with flavor. The toppings were fresh, creamy and delicious. My wife said her chicken sandwich was great. She was cautious when ordering it but she said the flavor was great and the unique combo somehow worked. Our hot chocolates were stuffed filled with marshmallows, sprinkles and cinnamon flavors. I personally thought it was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. My wife said the cinnamon flavor was too much for her which hindered her rating of the hot drink. In another great moment of customer service the worker Overheard my wife and I trying to think of places to sit down and enjoy our yummy donuts in the warm weather that day as there is no interior seating at Hi-Five. Just a counter to order the donuts and some standing space inside. The worker informed us that if we walk behind there facility they have a nice shared patio with the bar next door. So we made the trip outside and enjoyed our snacks in the good weather. Overall I can see what the hype was about. Very good donuts, cool options, solid pricing, great service and cute little setup for hi-five donuts. Absolutely will be back to revisit this place. read more

These ladies are amazing. They were so friendly, patient and informative. Plus, they make amazing donuts! I mean, is there really more to say? Yes, there is... Pricing is reasonable for their creative creations & these bad boys are big. I opted for the (justifiably) raved about chicken sandwich (top of the menu), as did the hubs - with added bacon, egg & cheese. He couldn't pass up the cinnamon streusel donuts, so, he grabbed that too. After his sandwich, he talked about how full he was WHILE eating his donut. Dare I say it's hard not to overindulge. She helped me pick the right pairings for toppings for my donut and told me about each special donut in the case. I posted a pic of the menu so you can see all the different options. It wasn't expensive at all. I got 2 nice size donuts for $6. I think that's a pretty decent price. One of my donuts was a create your own one. I had bourbon caramel and bacon added to it. It was so good and a pretty large donut. Actually all the donuts there were large. Well worth the money. So many different options to pick from. My son got the basic twist with cinnamon on it. He said his was good too. They also sold food. I saw some breakfast sandwiches and they put them in boxes like box lunches. I'll definitely be going back when I'm in the area. It was so nice. I have had this place on my radar for the longest time. I finally made it on a Saturday morning on the weekend of Bourbon and Beyond. There is street parking and I actually had no trouble getting. I go in and and I'm the only customer in there (it was about a half hour before closing time) . There wasn't a very big selection of donuts left and I got the last I want to say Salted Chocolate that was left and a small organic milk to go. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and I would definitely come back here, I would tell anyone maybe come when they open because the selection maybe better. This place was awesome! Stopped with a friend while driving through town. Small, cute and slightly girly inside. Lots of pink and so cute! There are several selections of doughnuts as well as " building" one for your liking. We each chose a doughnut with a frosted flavor... peanut butter, chocolate... etc, then added toppings. I chose the bacon crumbles. The king of the show was the chicken doughnut sandwich!!!! JUST SAY YES AND GET ONE!!!! One of the best and fun sandwich I've ever had! Walked down the street and bought a dozen. Cinnamon roll is an OMG experience! The chocolate icing and old fashion were the other two I tried - that is 3 of the 12 varieties I bought. The wife and mother destroyed the remaining 9!! The following Sunday my sleep was cut short by dreams of doughnuts. I walked down the street early (7 am) for another dozen but didn't get in the door... sigh... they open at 8 am on weekends rather than 7 as during the weekday. This is technically my second encounter with these folks. Many moons ago I had one of their donut at a music festival (probably louder than life) and bought their tshirt. Fast forward years later, I discover thry have a brick and mortar. They have a cute store, and limited to 3 guest at a time due to covid restrictions and no indoor seating. Menu is easy to read and has choices galore. I recommend planning to make multiple trips, unless yoh can eat sweets for days without dying. Their glaze donuts are huge! My husband got the breakfast donut. He was going to leave the mayo off but decided to try it in its original state. He was glad..cause it was amazing! I love donuts and I was really excited to finally try Hi-Five. We've been wanting to try them for awhile now. But it was a let down. I got a long John and I liked the texture of the dough but it didn't have much of a flavor to it. The chocolate glaze had a weird flavor. It wasn't necessarily a bad flavor but it was not enough of a chocolate flavor. There was just an overall lack of flavor with the long John. My boyfriend got the chocolate chip donut and said it was doughy, not much flavor, and kind of bland. Like I said, I love donuts but I didn't really want to finish the donut and it just wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. Cute little shop and street parking was really easy. WAIT VEGAN FRIENDS: they didn't forget you, they have vegan AF donuts. They serve various selections daily but the basics are always available as you can top your donuts with various available drizzles, flavors and condiments. They also serve sandwiches. Yes sandwiches that I myself I never would love them. Just like the idea of pineapples on pizza deterred me, yet I tried it and it was traumatic, I wasn't believing in fried chicken on a donut. Oh, I was wrong, that's from a man, and that sandwich is one of the best chicken sandwiches I ever had. Needless to say, I plan to try the rest of the sandwiches options soon. They also cater. Hi-5-donuts also serve cinnamon sticks, drinks, dine in and carry out. They are lovely from dates, friends, family, friends and to impress some one with a gift. Anyway, I just found out they have a food challenge that only four people tried, it goes for $50, win it in takes all and a shirt with 30 mins allowed and lose it to pay and walk away with the left over, 30 minutes allowed. I stopped by today for a quick bite and decided to try the KY Fried Buttermilk Chicken sandwich donut. I've actually never tried a donut sandwich before so I didn't know what to expect, but this was definitely much much more tasty than I could've imagined. It comes with a glazed donut and 3 pieces of chicken strips inside. The chicken is a perfect combination of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's so huge too that I thought I would be left feeling very heavy after finishing, but it was actually perfect. What I liked about this shop is the unique options offered. In their display case, they rotate different flavors each day, I think. They have vegan options as well. In addition to their display, you can create your own by picking the glaze and the toppings that you want. They have an assortment of different donut sandwich options as well. Everything on the menu and in the case looked amazing that I wish I was hungry enough to try more. I did order the vegan strawberry glaze for my friend, and she was amazed by how good it was. Despite coming in large sizes and tasting so good, I do think it's very pricey for donuts. I wish they were a little more affordable, and I would've been inclined to buy more. It also does take a little while- I think I waited almost 10 minutes, for the donuts to come out. I kind of wish there was more in the display to choose from on the spot, but I guess it's also a good thing that it takes awhile cause then you know your food is being made fresh. What definitely stood out to me here was the customer service. The staff is very kind and takes the time to answer questions and give recommendations. My husband and I love trying different doughnut places, so we're excited to try Hi-Five. They did a great job with Covid precautions and even have curbside pickup available. We got 4 doughnuts, two we created ourselves and two from the display, a red velvet and cannoli doughnut. Our favorites were the two we created ourselves. I loved the cinnamon glaze with chocolate chips and that the doughnut was warm! The doughnuts were so rich, so one is enough. We got to enjoy them Saturday and Sunday because they were so filling. I couldn't finish one so that meant leftovers! Both doughnuts were so good; honestly I don't have anything bad to say about them. I brought some home for my family and they loved them also. The Chocolate Chip Pancake was the big winner for the group. I'm so glad my friend suggested we come here because they were the best doughnuts I've had in Louisville. Yay! So glad they opened a brick and mortar! I felt like the food truck had much smaller donuts and they were a little pricey. These are much larger! I guess they changed this up because they wanted to create a product suitable for the price! My friends and I came at 9 in the morning on a Thursday and there were a handful of people in here. Two guys had ordered breakfast sandwiches, which I will have to try next time. They looked good! One had fried chicken and one had the typical egg and meat! One lady was talking to a worker, although she was there picking up a dozen. I will add that this deal is a little pricey, but these aren't your ordinary donuts and they are seriously HUGE. But it'll cost you a pretty penny though. Upwards of maybe $30. I got some Elixir kombucha from the fridge. It was lavender lemonade and very good! I also built my own with the girl at the counter's suggestion. It was bourbon caramel topped with bacon. Wow! I could taste the bourbon! It was filling and messy, so I used a knife and fork to cut it. My friend also built her own and did strawberry sauce with Oreos. It was much too sweet for her but she liked what she chose. The strawberry sauce was a selling point to the donut. My other friend got a mint julep donut. Again, you get that nice bourbon taste. Very well executed! The space is small, but we sat at a bar table against the wall. Other than that, there was one other table in here. Most people don't sit in here. Their space isn't huge, but they take advantage of what space they have for seating. The selection of pre made donuts rotates on flavors, and they also have things like cinnamon roles and sandwiches made with a donut.
