I've been wanting to try this place the moment I walked past it at UTC. The minimalist interior design was simple, yet so lovely and appealing. The space resembled a tea house, but with its own unique elegance that I quickly fell in love with. What we tried: Cloud Longjing Milk Tea - 4/5 Cloud Matcha Latte - 3.5/5 It's okay... I guess I just had better tea drinks at this point. I really enjoyed the Cloud Longjing Milk Tea, but I feel like the matcha cloud and Viennese cream was a bit too much. I guess I'll just get the simpler version of it next time because I absolutely loved the flavor and aroma of the Longjing tea. I think it's also beyond adorable that you can customize a sticker for your drink--I feel like it makes your cup just a little more special. I have also seen a lot of reviews recommending to put your order online through their app and it was the best advice ever! It made getting our order such a breeze. We went on a Thursday midday, and there were still 30+ drinks ahead of us when we put our order in. It was INSANE! So yes, if you don't want the hassle of waiting 30-40 minutes for your drink, just order through their app. I'm not counting them out just yet. I'm definitely going back, but I think I'll try the Supreme Brown Sugar Bobo Milk Tea and Coconut Mango Boom next time. It's a very hyped place... but cannot compare to other places around, first it took me almost my whole lunch break to get one simple black milk tea. 45 minutes... and I ordered in the app before arriving. Tucked by the food courts lives the best tea shop at UTC mall. This has been my favorite HeyTea yet. I'm not sure if it's because they made my order so quickly. I made my preorder when I was the kids playground and by the time I walked over to heytea, it was ready! I think the other reason I love this spot is that it's the only HeyTea that has seating INSIDE! I'm looking forward to grabbing a drink and catching up with a friend here. Cloud Matcha Latte (8/10): The matcha itself was really good, I just wish the cloud top was a little thicker. I finally was able to come. And I was happy that the line was not so long. They said it was gonna be about a 25 minute wait for my two drinks. That was fine since I'm already here but I think it finished pretty fast actually. The interior is so cute. But it kind of reminds me of Kim Kardashian's house. They had plenty of options. I wasn't sure what to get. Both drinks I got for 75 %sweetness. The first one was the popular mango smoothie thing. That was good and refreshing. We showed up to a line out the door which pretty much told us everything we needed to know about how popular this spot is. The space is pretty small inside with limited seating so don't expect to hang around for too long. Also a heads up for my fellow matcha lovers, they don't offer non-dairy milk options which was a little disappointing for me. I ended up going with the Coconut Mango Bobo instead. The wait was about 45 minutes but they give you a barcode on your receipt to track your order so my friend and I just walked around and did a little shopping nearby. Pretty convenient honestly! When I finally got to pick up and try my drink, it was worth the wait! It was super refreshing with real ripe mango pieces and the boba was on point too. You can shop around the mall and come back later! My go-to is the Crisp Grape Bloom and you might be wondering if the grape flavor tastes like medicine. I can assure you, it does not! I decided to give HeyTea a try since I passed by, and it was the first time I didn't see a line all the way out the door. They had signs hanging in the window that you could place an online order to avoid long wait times, but in pulling up the website they paused online orders since their queue was likely high. When I placed my order at the front, the cashier forewarned me that the order may take up to 30 minutes. The transparency, and the business savvy to not allow online orders when they know their queue is high is excellent service in my book. I ordered the Cloud Matcha latte and their black milk tea, both with bopo added. The black milk tea was good, but mediocre. I loved the lid they used on the Cloud Matcha Latte - you could spin the lid to create an opening so that you could probably taste the cheese cloud. The quality of the matcha was great. The flavor and texture of their bopo was also good. The bopo was bit more sweet than I'm used to, but thankfully I had the foresight to lower the percentages of sweetness in both of my teas to balance the flavor pairings. The inside of their location has seating, but since it was overfilled with customers waiting for orders and customers in line, it was very loud. I definitely did not want to enjoy my tea there and was quick to take it home once my order was ready. If I was craving high quality matcha, I will definitely keep this place in consideration. I may try ordering online in advance in the future. But, if I was visiting UTC mall and spontaneously wanted matcha, milk tea, or any boba drink -- the longer waiting queue would likely result in me choosing a different location at the mall over HeyTea. read more

There aren't any physical menus displayed around the shop besides the one at the register. As someone who likes to browse beforehand, it was inconvenient that the store relies on customers to look up the menu online. Even when I checked, the online menu didn't fully match what was available in store. I can imagine this being even more frustrating for people who aren't as comfortable with technology. There's very limited seating along the walls, and those seats were almost always taken. The employees at the front were friendly, and ordering was smooth. We were told the wait would be about 50 minutes, so we decided to walk around the mall while waiting. To pick up your drinks, you watch the TV screen and look for your order number. Our drinks were probably ready a little earlier, but we came back at the 50-minute mark just to be safe. Pistachio Cloud King Jasmine ($8.99 + $0.99 for boba): This was really good. It had a light pistachio foam on top with crushed pistachios, and the jasmine milk tea base was fragrant and smooth. I ordered it less sweet, and it tasted perfect. The boba was bouncy and added a nice sweetness. The cup comes with instructions on how to drink it, but I preferred using a straw since I added boba. This felt like a treat, and I can definitely see myself craving it again. At around $10, it is pricey, but it feels more like an occasional treat. Supreme Brown Sugar Boba Milk ($7.99): This is their take on a classic brown sugar milk drink, but with a subtle nutty flavor. Only a small amount of indoor seating. We got the coconut mango boom and triple supreme matcha latte. The mango drink is similar to other mango, coconut and sago blends that other boba places have. The matcha was different in that I've never had matcha mochi or matcha jelly in a drink but the flavor doesn't really stand out from the matcha latte itself so you only really get different textures. I was expecting the matcha flavor to be a bit more tangy since they mix the matcha with cheese foam but it wasn't. She told me there was a super long wait at her visit so I decided to order online ahead of time for pick up later. Ordering online was confusing although I'm thankful for the option. The phone app told me I couldn't order because it was very busy at the shop and to check back later. After a few refreshes, it doesn't change so I almost give up. I check back after maybe a half an hour and it allows me to order! You can't set a future time to pick it up and it was too early to put an order in so I try again in an hour. It says I can't order again due to the high volume. I try again after some time and it allowed me to finally order which I did. The back and forth was confusing to me and I never had a business do that before. Anyways, it took a good half an hour to be ready which is crazy to me for a drink! We've heard good things about their grapefruit and longjing tea from a friend in SF. The grapefruit is a winner! Even though I had my doubts about potential bitterness the taste was very crisp and not oversweet at 100%. My second drink, the jasmine was packaged nicely so it didn't spill. The flavor didn't come across very strong, so I would try it without ice. The matcha cloud is tasty, because it had a strong and full balanced flavor that paired well with matcha's natural bitterness. Honorable mention to coconut mango boom, my friends fave pick overall. Was excited to try the newest hey tea at the utc mall but unfortunately did not live up to expectations. Firstly there are long lines currently, even in non peak time took about 10-15 mins to even place order, then another 20 mins to wait for the drink. Online ordering is not currently available, and the app is not able to be used to scan for points or discounts. The drink itself is made from good quality milk and tea leaves, and does have a premium feel. The boba were too sweet at this location. All of this is likely part of the growing pains of a new store and could be sorted out with time. What was disappointing was when I got my drink it had no boba (had requested this at the register but the employee must have forgot to put it in). The lady who handed me my drink offered to add boba which I was agreeable too and would have been happy with. Another employee jumped out from behind her and insisted on holding up all other 30 people in line for me to pay an extra $1 to add the boba that they forgot to add in the first place. This was extremely disappointing and bad customer service for a brand charging premium prices and serving a premium product. I hope the customer service improves and the kinks are worked out. The store is small but has a cool aesthetic. For now suggest the Delmar location which has friendlier staff, less wait times, and app compatibility to order online ahead of time. read more

I frequent the Heytea in Del Mar, but this is my first time at Heytea UTC. I preordered and took advantage of one of the in-app coupons. I came around noon so there were few people in the store. The space is small and just off the UTC Starbucks. It is very clean inside with gorgeous, minimalist decor. It smells great, which is always a good sign for a tea shop! I ordered the cloud longjing milk tea, light sugar less ice. My friend got the yingde black milk tea. My drink was SO GORGEOUS. the matcha foam was topped with puffs of rich viennese cream. I tried a bit of the cream itself and it was so creamy, and not too sweet. I aggressively mixed it together before taking a sip, and WOW. just WOW. I had been apprehensive about this drink as I thought that the matcha foam, milk, and sweetener would overpower the milder longjing green tea. However, I feel that the addition of toasty buckwheat helped give the tea more body, enhancing the unique taste of the longjing tea. The first taste that hit my tongue was definitely the matcha, but the longjing lingers on my tongue after. I also tried a sip of my friend's yingde black tea as I was curious about this new drink. It was fine and the black tea was strong and smooth, but it was not especially standout for me. It is not something I would order myself. I'll start by saying that while I don't think this place is worth the line, it was good. In total, it probably took us 30 minutes to order and receive our drink. The pro is that there's a place to order a matcha latte in UTC. Despite how many different types of milk tea or bubble drink places there are, most aren't really specializing in this kind of matcha drink. The rest of them have different milk teas or fruit teas, but not matcha, so it's great to have that option. However, here are the cons. They use regular milk for almost all of the drinks. There is one with oat milk, but they can't sub oat milk for any of the other drinks, which I find so weird! Especially when you're serving a population that is majority lactose intolerant and you only offer milk.
