Saw a boba shop on Yelp I had yet to visit and was nearby so I had to come and try their drinks! The shop is in a small but busy strip mall, and parking can be tricky. I ordered the einspanner latte and my husband the gotcha fruit tea. The fruit tea was delicious and refreshing for a summer day. The einspanner latte was strong but not as sweet as I thought it would have been for a latte like drink, could be my misunderstanding of the drink itself. Cute ambiance, though pretty small. The service could be on the friendlier side. There's also an incessant doorbell noise that rings even if there isn't anyone actively walking through the door. There are a number of claw machines to keep you occupied while you wait for your drinks, and I actually won something for once! Went here randomly with my girlfriend because we wanted to try something new, and we really liked it! The drinks themselves were good, I got Mom's favourite and she got the matcha eispanner. Very rich flavours, and somewhat refreshing considering how horrible the heats been. Service was nice, and I even got a heads up on one of the ingredients in my drink since apparently people get surprised it's in there. I did really like it, no spoilers here though lol. And the place is soooooo cute. All those lil guys used as decorations are adorable! And gotta respect the blind box hustling. The matcha einspanner was delicious and super rich. I got it less sweet which was the perfect level for my tastes. I added boba which was a bit much, but it was still really good. There were two employees working and both were friendly and welcoming. Corn milk tea with boba: I ordered this because it sounded different. I was told it leaned sweet, so I chose half sugar. The drink itself was good, but I didn't get much corn flavor. It tasted more like a roasted black tea or Earl Grey milk tea with a slightly nutty and floral note. It was a solid black milk tea, but if you're expecting a strong corn taste, it may be disappointing. It's possible the corn flavor comes more from the syrup, and choosing half sugar reduced that intensity. The boba itself was excellent. It was sweet, bouncy, and cooked perfectly with a good chewy texture. Brown sugar fresh milk with boba: This drink was very sweet. My husband ordered it at standard sweetness and it was sooooo sweet. The brown sugar flavor was strong, and the boba had that classic caramelized sweetness. The texture of the boba was again very well done. If you order this, I would recommend adjusting the sugar level to half. Both drinks together came out to around $13.60, which felt fair for the quality. Parking here is also much easier compared to boba spots on Convoy. It's less crowded, easier to access, and you don't have to deal with long lines. I got an iced hojicha latte with oat milk and no syrup and I loved it. My wife got an iced half sweetened honey cinnamon latte with oat milk and she really enjoyed it. I've been to Gotcha Tea a couple of times now. The first time I tried one of their coffee drinks (can't remember which one), but I do remember it being a little too sweet for my taste. Today I was craving matcha and wanted to branch out from my usual spot, Labora Coffee. I decided to stop by Gotcha Tea to try their Biscoff Matcha--and I'm so glad I did! I asked the cashier if the drink was sweet since that would help me decide whether to adjust the sugar level. She said it wasn't too sweet and that the balance was just right, so I trusted her recommendation. Both girls working were super sweet and friendly. The Biscoff matcha is a hit! So good. I got it with oat milk, and it had this nice Biscoff cookie crumble on top of the cold foam--such a nice touch. If you like Biscoff cookies and matcha, you'll love this drink. Only thing--I wish it came in a larger size because I finished it so fast! (Maybe I was just thirsty... or maybe a little too much ice ). Regarding the drink, it was delicious. I drank the mango smoothie, and it had just enough mango flavor and was not overly sweet. The consistency was super smooth, and you can even modify what type of milk you prefer for the smoothie. I enjoyed the taste of the boba, which is always a make-or-break for me when it comes to a boba shop; it was cooked to perfection. I do think that the service here is pretty slow. I came around 1:30 pm and felt like I left 30 minutes later with only 3 other people ahead of me. The interior is well decorated though a bit polluted with flashy lights - not that anyone is falling asleep in here! Overall, the vibes are cute and tailored (imo) more towards kids. I can't confirm whether they use ceremonial matcha, but the einspanner was very nutty, maybe due to the type of matcha powder they use. I opted for regular whole milk and the drink mixed in was a nice bright green color as a quality matcha would look. I asked for half sweetness, but the drink is still on the sweeter side. I would recommend maybe at least half of sweetness to taste the matcha. There are limited tables, and I chose to sit near the wall by the claw machines. Gotcha Tea (formerly Gotcha Cafe) is located in the Kearny Villa Square which is not in the Convoy District, but it still has the same issue of challenging parking depending on the time of the day. The lot is actually pretty big, however there are too many businesses and not enough spaces. Looking at its website, this appears to be the only SD location of a bubble tea chain that was founded several years ago. The inside of the suite was not large with a few short and high-top round tables plus some sofas for seating. The menu featured fresh tea, coffee, smoothies for drinks. I visited a while back when there was a promotional special of buy one, get a second one for half price. My two choices were a passion fruit green tea and a honey lemon green tea. I asked for each to be made with less ice, less sugar, and boba pearls added. Taller plastic cups with solid plastic lids were used. The smaller diameter allowed the cups to fit snugly into the beverage holders of my vehicle. It took some time for the server to make my order. I could tell when I was sipping the tea that fresh brews were being used. They actually have a farm on which the tea leaves were grown. That can't be said for many boba tea shops. The chewiness of the pearls was okay. The quality and price for my drinks at Gotcha Tea were at a four star level. read more

I got the Matcha Einspanner the first time I came but it was a bit too nutty for my preference (my friend loved it though because she does like nutty notes in matcha). I went in after a shift at work and there was no line. There's a bell that's motion sensor, so they come out to the front immediately after you arrive. The interior was really cute and offered some claw machines, which were filled with cute stuffed animals. There's some indoor seating; I'd say it could fit around 15-20 people tops. There are no outlets --at least where I sat-- so it's not really a study cafe. It was my first time, so I took a little time to decide, but the cashier was nice enough not to mind! I ordered a double matcha and they offered a loyalty program if you add your number (do it, it'll be worth it). It took around ten minutes to get my matcha, but I think it's worth it.
