Cute ambiance, though pretty small. The service could be on the friendlier side. There's also an incessant doorbell noise that rings even if there isn't anyone actively walking through the door. There are a number of claw machines to keep you occupied while you wait for your drinks, and I actually won something for once! I walked in very excited to try the corn milk tea, but left a little disappointed, as I couldn't really detect the corn flavor. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his Paris tea, though. He noted that the Oreo crumbles were fresh, as there's nothing worse than stale Oreos in your drink.
their drinks are all really good. especially their matcha. The place is decorated really cute and it's such a vibe. The drinks are made really quickly.
Went here randomly with my girlfriend because we wanted to try something new, and we really liked it! The drinks themselves were good, I got Mom's favourite and she got the matcha eispanner. Very rich flavours, and somewhat refreshing considering how horrible the heats been. Service was nice, and I even got a heads up on one of the ingredients in my drink since apparently people get surprised it's in there. I did really like it, no spoilers here though lol. And the place is soooooo cute. All those lil guys used as decorations are adorable! And gotta respect the blind box hustling. It is a pretty small place though, so depending on the day you may not be able to actually hang in there. They have outside seating too though. Would come back and try out other stuff on the menu when in the area!
Gotcha Tea House got me hooked! I looove the cuuute Pop Mart themed decor. It has a happy-go-lucky vibe...putting a smile on my face. My inner child thanks you!! I didn't have to wait too long. The service was pretty quick. Their Matcha Latte was sooo fresssh, riiich and deeelish. I have to go back for some more. The Yelp Community gotta go there!!! I gotcha back with this 5-star review.
Gotcha Gotcha Tea Cafe is located on Kearny Villa Road in Kearny Mesa. They offer fresh brewed teas, milk teas, smoothies, and coffee drinks. They recently revamped their menu and added more in house specials, so I wanted to see if the quality had improved since my last visit. The shop itself is cute but visually busy. There's some seating available, though not a huge amount. One thing that stands out is the number of claw machines and collectible figurines around the space, including Pop Mart style displays. It gives the shop personality and makes it fun to hang out in, though it can feel a little overstimulating. When we visited, it wasn't too busy. There were two employees working and both were friendly and welcoming. Corn milk tea with boba: I ordered this because it sounded different. I was told it leaned sweet, so I chose half sugar. The drink itself was good, but I didn't get much corn flavor. It tasted more like a roasted black tea or Earl Grey milk tea with a slightly nutty and floral note. It was a solid black milk tea, but if you're expecting a strong corn taste, it may be disappointing. It's possible the corn flavor comes more from the syrup, and choosing half sugar reduced that intensity. The boba itself was excellent. It was sweet, bouncy, and cooked perfectly with a good chewy texture. Brown sugar fresh milk with boba: This drink was very sweet. My husband ordered it at standard sweetness and it was sooooo sweet. The brown sugar flavor was strong, and the boba had that classic caramelized sweetness. The texture of the boba was again very well done. If you order this, I would recommend adjusting the sugar level to half. Both drinks together came out to around $13.60, which felt fair for the quality. Parking here is also much easier compared to boba spots on Convoy. It's less crowded, easier to access, and you don't have to deal with long lines. I think this is a solid spot if you want a good milk tea without the stress of busy parking lots or long waits.
The matcha einspanner was delicious and super rich. I got it less sweet which was the perfect level for my tastes. I added boba which was a bit much, but it was still really good. The cream top was super thick and gave almost a milkshake texture. I highly recommend if you're looking for a matcha sweet treat!
I would say that if you're looking for good matcha in SD, this would be the best one! I love how cutesy it is inside, however seating is quite limited. We heard great things about this boba shop, & it definitely did not disappoint. * Double Matcha - 9/10 (the matcha flavor was very strong & the drink had the perfect amount of sweetness. the matcha was very umami & the quality was up to standard. the foam was delicious, but i do wish there was a bit less of it & more drink. overall, i will 100% be coming by to try their other matcha drinks!)
Went here bc my cousins heard good things about their matcha but I don't like matcha so I got this jasmine milk tea instead. It tasted watered down so I wasn't really a fan
I've been to Gotcha Tea a couple of times now. The first time I tried one of their coffee drinks (can't remember which one), but I do remember it being a little too sweet for my taste. Today I was craving matcha and wanted to branch out from my usual spot, Labora Coffee. I decided to stop by Gotcha Tea to try their Biscoff Matcha--and I'm so glad I did! I asked the cashier if the drink was sweet since that would help me decide whether to adjust the sugar level. She said it wasn't too sweet and that the balance was just right, so I trusted her recommendation. Both girls working were super sweet and friendly. The Biscoff matcha is a hit! So good. I got it with oat milk, and it had this nice Biscoff cookie crumble on top of the cold foam--such a nice touch. If you like Biscoff cookies and matcha, you'll love this drink. Only thing--I wish it came in a larger size because I finished it so fast! (Maybe I was just thirsty... or maybe a little too much ice ). Definitely coming back for this and to try more of their matcha flavors. Plus, they're right next to Spicy Lao Kitchen, so it's an easy combo stop!
This place is such a vibe and flex in all the Popmart plushies; gotcha tea more like gotcha labubus. It is such a cute area to hang out or do some homework in. While waiting for your drink, you definitely get distracted by looking at all the decor throughout the small shop. There are also little claw machines that you can spend money on to kill some time. Regarding the drink, it was delicious. I drank the mango smoothie, and it had just enough mango flavor and was not overly sweet. The consistency was super smooth, and you can even modify what type of milk you prefer for the smoothie. I enjoyed the taste of the boba, which is always a make-or-break for me when it comes to a boba shop; it was cooked to perfection. I do think that the service here is pretty slow. I came around 1:30 pm and felt like I left 30 minutes later with only 3 other people ahead of me. This location is nice, right off the freeway and in a shared plaza where you are not fighting for parking.
I've definitely been in my matcha era over coffee lately and have been wanting to give Gotcha a visit. SO happy we did. The service was super quick and friendly! I got the double matcha with my cousins getting the eispanner and double as well. We preferred the double the most of the two drinks! The eispanner tasted more like milk and cream, we felt the matcha didn't fully come through but the double matcha was 10/10. I'd definitely come back for it!
On the lookout for a new cafe, I stumbled upon Gotcha Tea. Despite being in a smaller plaza, parking was fairly easy to find. The interior is well decorated though a bit polluted with flashy lights - not that anyone is falling asleep in here! Overall, the vibes are cute and tailored (imo) more towards kids. The tables and chairs in general err on the shorter end - and I'm not that tall. For drinks, I had their Purple Rice Yogurt at 25% sugar. Service was average, and it took about 10 minutes for my drink. The Purple Rice Yogurt was well made; the sourness of yogurt could be tasted, and the bits of purple rice that were present was a good topping - wish there was a bit more. Though parking was easy to find, seating is a bit harder here. There is some outdoor seating, but overall this is a smaller spot.
Cute and decorative cafe. Great for all ages! They have a couple of card games, board games, and claw machines (additional cost). We ordered at the front and our drinks came out in about 10minutes. There was no wait on a Sunday at 12:15pm. We ordered the chocolate boba smoothie, strawberry match, and ube coffee. The strawberry match was the best! The bobas were fresh and had a great flavor and chew.

Saw a boba shop on Yelp I had yet to visit and was nearby so I had to come and try their drinks! The shop is in a small but busy strip mall, and parking can be tricky. I ordered the einspanner latte and my husband the gotcha fruit tea. The fruit tea was delicious and refreshing for a summer day. The einspanner latte was strong but not as sweet as I thought it would have been for a latte like drink, could be my misunderstanding of the drink itself. It was still good and gave me the extra kick I needed to keep going for the rest of the day. There are still a ton of drinks to try and I definitely will be back again read more
I have stopped by Gotcha tea twice now and their drinks are great! They only issue I have is that I always order ahead online via Clover but there are issues regarding wait times/missing items. Both times I've had to remind them about the macaron or the flavor I chose ran out. The second time we waited an additional 20-30 mins for our drinks after placing an order and arriving. However, their drinks are really good! My favorite is the Hojicha latte with the cream top and their Ubelicious is also amazing as well. I would come back again and hopefully the online ordering process will be smoother! read more
This matcha spot was seriously so cute! I ordered the Biscoff Matcha and it was delicious. It was on the creamier side, which I loved, and you can definitely taste the Biscoff, it was perfect! The girl working was super friendly and welcoming. They also have cute little claw machines to play (for a cost, of course ), and the whole place is just so comfy and adorable. Definitely a cute spot to grab a matcha and hang out. Will be coming back again! read more

nice boba store with many figurines. staff is nice and ambiance is good. for my drink which is honey kumquat: will say the taste of honey is too strong even has put less sweet and cannot even taste the kumquat. may be need to put extra kumquat for the drink... read more

I had heard about this matcha drink a few different times and finally wanted to try it out. Gotcha tea has such a cute interior with plenty of seating and plushies around to make the atmosphere comforting. They do have a wide selection of boba and tea but I was here for the matcha einspanner It definitely did not disappoint and the taste and quality of the matcha was a perfect midday pick me up! Can't wait to come back and try some boba tea next time read more
This place has the best matcha einspänner I've had so far in San Diego. It's super smooth, rich, and creamy with a beautiful matcha color. It is on the pricier side (around $9 with oat milk), but I think it's worth it for the quality. Their strawberry matcha is really good as well. They have small tables with seating, though I don't think it's the best spot for working or studying. A nice touch is that they always have fresh flowers out, which makes the space feel welcoming. The only con is that there's usually just one person working the front, so they're taking orders AND making drinks at the same time. It can take a bit for drinks to come out, but overall, it's still worth the wait. read more
I gave this boba shop a try after the line at the coffee shop next door was too long. I ordered the matcha einspanner, and while it looked pretty, the matcha flavor was underwhelming. The cream foam on top also had a nutty flavor which I personally was not a fan of. I also tried some of my friend's gotcha tea, and it was aggressively syrupy and strong, I don't think I would have been able to finish it. Our cashier was nice, but they seemed understaffed for a Sunday morning. There were around 8 people waiting for drinks and it seemed like only one person was working, both taking orders and making drinks. Our drinks took around 20 minutes to come out. The interior has cute decorations and they also have claw machines. read more

First time trying Gotcha Tea, ordered the Corn Milk Tea with boba (50% sugar, 50% ice). I was pleasantly surprised at this drink since I've never seen corn as an option for milk tea before. The boba was incredibly sweet so it made the entire drink pretty sweet, which I didn't mind because the boba was made fresh. It literally came out warm in the cold drink!! If I hadn't adjusted the tea sweetness already, it definitely would have been too sweet for my liking. My friend got the House Special Tea (50% sugar) but he didn't end up liking it because it tasted watered down so I finished it. It had a floral aftertaste, but I agree the Corn Milk Tea that I ordered was much better. Not sure if I'd go out of my way to specifically come back to this boba spot again but I do appreciate that it's just two doors down from Pho Duyen Mai and is open until 9pm! read more
The rebrand of Gotcha Tea might have made a comeback! The boba shop is now decorated with cute popular cartoons and figures/plushies and they've added two crane machines inside. I barely remember any details of the old interior, but the remodel looks adorable. I ordered the matcha einspanner. I can't confirm whether they use ceremonial matcha, but the einspanner was very nutty, maybe due to the type of matcha powder they use. I opted for regular whole milk and the drink mixed in was a nice bright green color as a quality matcha would look. I asked for half sweetness, but the drink is still on the sweeter side. I would recommend maybe at least half of sweetness to taste the matcha. There are limited tables, and I chose to sit near the wall by the claw machines. The walls are THIN so you can hear (and feel) everything going on next door, just FYI! Some (deep) cleaning was going on and I could literally feel the rumbling from the other side. read more

It's hard to find a good cafe that makes good matcha einspanners, but this place does a great job! It's has a strong matcha flavor and not too sweet. They use some good quality matcha, and I highly recommend matcha lovers to come try! It's a small store with a bunch of cute corgi and labubus decors. I tried doing work here but chairs are a bit uncomfortable and lack of outlets. Nonetheless, it's definitely worth a try! read more
Their drinks are a standout--especially the Einspänner Latte and Matcha Latte. Both feature a rich, creamy foam topping that adds a luxurious, silky finish. The Einspänner latte blends bold espresso with sweet, velvety cream, while the matcha version offers earthy flavor balanced by its smooth, cloud-like topping. Don't miss the Ube Vietnamese Coffee--a bold sweet drink with a unique twist that similar to the Vietnamese egg coffee. In this version, the egg custard is switched out for sweet ube. Perfect for ube lovers! You have to try out the rice paper snack at least once! It's so unique since I've never had it myself. Be warned that you should start off at a level 1 for spiciness! The staff was kind and helpful! However service can be a bit slow during their busy hours. They're pretty popular on the weekends! This place is more than just a boba spot--it's a relaxed, social space with great drinks. Ideal for catching up with friends or just chilling out. read more
Gotcha has fun labubu-themed decor with crane and card games. I think it's a great spot for a short hangout with friends. Service is pretty timely, not too long of a wait. Drink Highlights: Matcha Einspanners - 4/5 These are consistently great. I like how you can taste the quality of the matcha with the layered sweet cream. It's the drink that keeps me coming back. Roasted Oolong - 0/5 This one was far too sweet for me, even though I double-checked with the staff and was told it wouldn't be. The sweetness overwhelmed any of the tea flavor, which made it hard to enjoy. Other Drinks - Mediocre I've tried a few others on the menu, and while none were terrible, they didn't really stand out. The matcha is definitely the star here. (Sad they didn't bring the Longan/Jujube tea back in their new opening) read more
Gotcha Tea (formerly Gotcha Cafe) is located in the Kearny Villa Square which is not in the Convoy District, but it still has the same issue of challenging parking depending on the time of the day. The lot is actually pretty big, however there are too many businesses and not enough spaces. Looking at its website, this appears to be the only SD location of a bubble tea chain that was founded several years ago. The inside of the suite was not large with a few short and high-top round tables plus some sofas for seating. The menu featured fresh tea, coffee, smoothies for drinks. I visited a while back when there was a promotional special of buy one, get a second one for half price. My two choices were a passion fruit green tea and a honey lemon green tea. I asked for each to be made with less ice, less sugar, and boba pearls added. Taller plastic cups with solid plastic lids were used. The smaller diameter allowed the cups to fit snugly into the beverage holders of my vehicle. It took some time for the server to make my order. I could tell when I was sipping the tea that fresh brews were being used. They actually have a farm on which the tea leaves were grown. That can't be said for many boba tea shops. The chewiness of the pearls was okay. The quality and price for my drinks at Gotcha Tea were at a four star level. read more

Wanted to try the bamboo charcoal - Good recommendation from the staff to reduce the sugar level as the drink is quite sweet. Staff also recommended the matcha einspanner which was delicious. Decor was very cute, will come back with the kids. read more

So many places in San Diego have been secretly switching to a concentrate method (big batch "whisked" in the beginning of the day) so Gotcha definitely stands out for hand whisking every drink! I got the Matcha Einspanner the first time I came but it was a bit too nutty for my preference (my friend loved it though because she does like nutty notes in matcha). I get the Strawberry Matcha sweetened w/ oat milk now and it's been consistent the past 4 times I've gone! The drinks do take a while to come out as expected because they're whisked to order but the barista was super nice and worked as fast as she could! The inside is super cute and a fun place to hangout although maybe not ideal for studying! read more
The place is so adorable. It is full of stuffed animals and La Bubu! There's a couple of claw machine which is tempting me, but I have way too many stuffed animals. Really cute and pretty place. We got the coffee and matcha eispanner. Both drinks is so delicious!! We can't wait to get it again. My daughter and I already planning our next trip there! The drinks is really good and not to sweet! Service is excellent! They make my drinks with care! There's so many steps to make the eispanner! I came here twice in the span of 4 days because I loved the Matcha Einspanner that much - And I will be coming back in exactly 2 weeks for another. MATCHA EINSPANNER: Not sure what matcha they use, but the matcha itself mixed with the creamy top made for a perfectly sweet, nutty flavor once mixed in. Hand whisked, so I didn't mind one bit when our drinks took awhile to come out. I'm lucky there haven't been huge lines out the door yet because this drink is so fire. STRAWBERRY MATCHA LATTE: Personally not a fan of strawberry matchas, but it was pretty good when I tried my friend's! Not too sweet. Overall, pricey (new average) for drinks but worth it IMO for when you want to grab a matcha outside. Inside is also decorated pretty cute with labubus + claw machines + small cafe tables. read more
Came back to try their new double matcha and it's delicious! I got 100% sweetness and it was perfectly sweet, creamy, rich. You can taste the quality and strength of the matcha. The size is bigger than you can find at most places. One of the top spots for double matcha, I will be back! read more
