This place is seriously awesome. I started going around October and I've been back twice since. Everyone who works here is super friendly and good at what they do and the spa itself is clean and cozy. As soon as you walk in for an appointment they offer you a drink from a long list (I bring my mom with me sometimes and they offer one to her as well, even though she's not there for an appointment). I've had a few different treatments here including a hair cut and eyebrow wax and I've never been disappointed. The price is slightly higher for some services than they would be at other places but I'm ok with paying a little more for the quality of service. The last time I scheduled an appointment was particularly awesome. They were running behind schedule earlier in the day and called me a few hours before my appointment to let me know so I wouldn't have to wait. I was scheduled for a hair cut, eyebrow wax, and hand parrifin treatment (they send you a postcard during your birth month and offer this for free!), all with Meri. I'd heard from the woman at the front desk that Meri had had a rough day with a few difficult clients in a row so I wasn't expecting her to be as cheerful as she was. This is the best salon in the Laurel/Columbia/Balto/DC metro region: true hair artisans. I love everything about Hey Red: the stylists (Meri, Michelle, Doreen, and Deb have all done my hair), Christine (amazing aesthetician who takes the time to educate her clients about their skin), and the product lines. The Image skin care line is second to none. The hair product lines are also good: Eufora, Loma, and Brocato. I love going to Hey Red! for my hair, facials, and hand paraffin treatments. I use their Jane Iredale makeup line which makes my skin look like porcelain. MJ always has a warm, friendly greeting and is absolutely wonderful. The ladies here are all so talented, and they work together as a *team*, no one is a diva. On a few occasions my stylist was out sick, but Hey Red! always accommodated me with another stylist who also did a wonderful service. GREAT HAIR and GREAT SKIN CARE. If you've been to some of the ridiculously overpriced salons in this area (I won't list them here) you'll find Hey Red's prices to be very reasonable in comparison, and you will walk out with BETTER HAIR AND SKIN than what you get in the diva salons. Found Hey Red based on the great reviews this salon has on Yelp and am not disappointed. I've gotten my hair cut by both Meri and Doreen and both have been really great at listening to what I was looking for and suggesting new ideas, but totally not being pushy about it. Everyone is incredibly professional. The products they use are pretty good too, but they don't push them too hard. I like that they email appointment confirmations and reminders, but they also send out a few too many promotional emails for my taste (and unrelated products, for example, skin care announcements to hair cut clients). The only other negative thing I have to say is that the last time I came in, I was seated in the aisle rather than in your standard salon station. The place seemed busy, but seemed to be handling it ok, other than my haircut happening in an unconventional space, with a chair in front of a smallish mirror hanging on the wall. My SO also got his hair cut here, and while the price was a little steep for a men's haircut, was the same price as a women's, and took way longer than mine, his stylist (Angela?) did a great job, and I ended up taking home a handsome guy :) read more

I recently started going to Hey Red after having my hair done at a (much pricier) salon in Bethesda for years. I couldn't be happier with my results. I've worked with Doreen both times I've come in, once for a hair cut and then again for a color and cut, and left feeling great both times. I have curly hair and Doreen did an amazing job, evening out a previous cut the was terrible (the reason I stopped going to my prior salon), and making my curls look great. When I wanted to try out some color, she was very patient and willing to discuss it. I never felt like she was pushing me toward a particular color or option, and I left with a great color that has held up well. The salon itself is on the small side but has been clean and comfortable, and I haven't had any of the other issues previous reviewers have mentioned (staff have been polite, no wet shirt after shampooing, no emails aside from the occasional promotion announcement and one reminder for my appointment). I went to Hey Red for the first time today for a cut, and coloring with highlights. I had an appointment with Doreen. I can't say enough good things about how happy I was when i left today. The color is perfect, which is saying a lot. I have been to some of the most expensive salons in the past and came out not completely happy. I have had more bad luck in getting the right color combination until today. Doreen is an expert when it comes to getting the right color done. She spent a great amount of time explaining things to me and showing me colors, etc. I learned more about coloring and my hair today then I have in the past 40+ years. I showed her a couple of pictures of cuts that I wanted to have and she picked the one that she thought would suit me best and she was right on. I am so happy with my experience at Hey Red and will be going back again and again. I went to this salon to see Christinia for a new makeover, not for hair but for a facial and makeup. As soon as I walked in the salon I was greeted by tons of smiling faces, this made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. Christina took one look at my skin and knew exactly what I needed, so we began with my amazing Oxygen Lift Facial. Ladies let me tell u something " I looked and felt amazing when I was done"!! Christina explained all the products that I should use everyday to keep my skin looking refreshed and healthy. I bought all the products for myself and I am going back with my sister to buy her some products for her birthday, and a wax (my sister needs this lol). I am a lifer and will only allow Christina to touch my face for waxing and facials!! Oh and don't forget to ask for a free makeup lesson, they also had amazing makeup that was a little exspensive but worth it! I went to Hey Red for the first time today. Kat cut my hair, she's been my stylist since I met her at the Paul Mitchell school 1 1/2 yrs ago. I have had 2 cancers in the last 12 months & had to have my head shaved bc of chemo. My hair is starting to grow back now & Kat has been there for me the entire time! Today my hair was actually long enough (about 3") for her to grab w/her fingers! She did a GREAT job cutting my hair! It looks so much cleaner & I feel so much better with my hair under some control. It's very frustrating being an adult and having to wait for your hair to grow out! It will take more than another year for my hair to get back where it was before chemo - but I have every confidence that Kat will be there for me, keeping it all under control! Check out Hey Red! Hey Red is the absolute best salon I have ever been to. When I was younger, I always got my hair cut on Brock Bridge Rd. (can't remember the name), and later started trying out Hair Cutteries around the Laurel/Hanover area, but no one ever did what i wanted. At Hey Red, I ask for something and the outcome has been nothing short of perfect! I've been an upwards of five or six times in the last four years for color and sometimes a trim, and everything has been stellar. Everyone who works there is so friendly + are always asking you if you are doing okay. They also provide complimentary coffee, tea, soda, and water and make you feel at home. Everything there is phenomenal and the ambience is a kind of natural-relaxing feel. The prices are reasonable as well. This is pretty much the only salon I'll go to! read more

My friend had told me about Hey Red! a few months ago. Usually, I just get my haircut at a nearby salon and color it from cheap boxes from grocery stores. My first visit at Hey Red was a couple weeks ago and I loved my experience! The salon was very nice and the stylists were welcoming. They even offered me a beverage! I also liked how they allow you to fill out a sheet that lets them know about your hair (what you have trouble with, what products you use, etc) so they can tend to any issues or recommend better products to keep your hair healthy. Kat Warren cut my hair and I am very pleased with her work! She did exactly how I wanted it and even made some suggestions! i wanted to get a new haircut for a long time cuz i had lots of split ends and after a lot of research in yelp i took an appointment with michelle. the staff here is very professional and the products they use are also very good. they take their time to address all the problem you tell them about. i am very satisfied with the new hair cut . got layer cut with a long side bang. and michelle used blow dry to kinda of set it and it looks pretty good now. i am by far very impressed by the cut. the only problem here is that they have a pretty expensive price range. i got my hair cut for 45$. i have long hair and i dint cut off my length that much but still the price is a bit to the high end. i am impressed with michelle. read more

This is a great salon hidden off main street in laurel behind red hot and blue. I have been here a few times to see Meri who is an absolute doll! The staff is so nice and welcoming and offer you coffee, tea, water or soda to drink. The hair washing/scalp massages are so relaxing. Meri does a great job with cutting your hair how you want even if you're like me and don't know how to describe it. She also does great color and blow outs! The prices are very reasonable and the products they use smell so good and like everyone says they don't push anything on you. Although I may get the hairspray next time I go because my blow out lasted for says (somethin I didn't know was possible) and because it smells so good. read more

I was a client at this salon for 10 years. I would travel 20 miles to get it cut and colored after I moved out of Laurel down to DC. The first stylist I had moved away or left and was good. I then switched to Michelle who is the most amazing colorist and with cut. Beyond talented. I then left the area and moved across country. I moved back to the DC area last year and tried to schedule an appointment with Michelle, but sadly Doreen (owner) advised that they didn't have the bandwidth for me to be a client. This was highly disappointing after being a customer of theirs for 10 years. I was very loyal. I truly miss Michelle doing my hair. I see Kat, and always have such a wonderful experience. She is warm, welcoming, punctual, and always listens to all the things i want for my hair --- and does it all exceptionally. if you're blonde or interested in blonding, she's your girl! as for the shop, it's very quaint and on the older side. The staff is so welcoming and attentive that you feel like family from the moment you come in. i love everything about it! the only downside i can think of is that they have old-fashioned shampoo bowls, and they arent the greatest on the back! :) all in all, i love my stylist and this salon, i would recommend it, and will certainly return! read more

my mother and i both have been here a time or two and i really like the shop! we both have been going to Kat ;myself for color and cuts, my mother just for cuts. she's done a great job, and ive never been happier with my hair than i am now. the shop is really tiny, which isn't so great for claustrophobic folk, but it's always busy , and i always see such great work going on when i'm there. i've been with kat since she was at Paul Mitchell, and followed her to Hey Red! from her last shop in columbia. she's brought me from black to blonde to brown since then, and i'm always excited to imagine something new up with her! read more

I used to live in Laurel, and an old friend recommended this Salon for me...I have since moved to DC, but I continue to make the trek to this homey, small town feel, yet chic up and coming salon. Michele cuts my hair and she is awesome. They get sent to training classes to keep up on current trends, pamper you with a complimentary drink of your choice the moment you come in and offer many styling and make up classes during the week to keep it interesting. I went here after seeing the reviews on Yelp and let me start by saying that the lady cut my hair was fantastic and I have had great feedback! Her name was Enida. But I will never return to that Salon again after I was told that my kids who are 9 and 6 were not welcome! The salon manger said she doesn't have the insurance to cover them around sharp objects. And that if they are not getting a service not ot bring them back. She didn't even say it nicely it was rude and disrespectful. So I will never return even though I love my hair!!! read more

I've never really enjoyed getting my haircut, but these ladies are pro at making sure you have a good experience. Everyone there took care of me, and my stylist, Michele, was AWESOME. She took her time, was super knowledgeable, made great conversation but wasn't pushy and I LOVE my haircut (went from medium-length hair to a pixie cut). Reasonably priced, especially when you consider the years of experience you're tapping into for a great cut and style. They've earned my trust and I'll absolutely be coming back! Very understanding! My initial appointment of my hair coloring was good, but the end result was what I didn't like, so I emailed them back to have them fix my hair. Michele did an amazing job redoing my hair a week later! I loved how her co-workers helped her as well, showing that everyone was able to participate in your hair appointment, not just one hairdresser. Five stars, and would definitely recommend to a friend. I've heard good things and decided to check out a Hey Red, it was a bit of a drive going into laurel, but worth it. Went in and got a men's cut from Kat. Not only was the cut exceptional, but the hairdresser was very nice. We had pleasant conversation throughout.
