Stopped in here half-expecting another kitschy "magic" shop, but was immediately surprised. This place is legit. They have a public altar! I purchased some authentic hand-poured spell candles for my wife. Definitely recommend for wiccan and the curious tourist alike. read more

I have yet to visit HEX, but I have seen the things they sell on their official website and I have to say that I'm very happy to have found a UNIQUE occult shop whose owners don't see magick as having "good" or "bad" sides (I share that belief and know that through personal experience) and they really seem knowledgable and helpful. Have visited this location a few times over the years. Very unique shop. The merchants are always very helpful and open to discuss the products. We've purchased from here a housewarming candle for a newly engaged friend, I've gotten charms for luck and safety, and I believe some other items, but I do not remember. I am in Salem so much I'm considered a local lol, and the one place I have to go to get any of my spirit supplies and say hello to a few local favorite people. You can expect high quality of herbs ( i suggest the frankinses or the lavender !) This is definately a place that makes any rootsy, bayou loving , natural witch or the seeker of wider spirit than mainstreamed by the media then you've gone to the right place. They have some traditional things you would expect like books and herbs and potions and candles but they also have some uniquely made products by talented artsians and places. But what is a good , blood-pumping this ain't your Aunt from the nunnery's with shoppe ( even though they have beautiful Saint micheal pendants and Seven day candle!) without a pyshic reader or two ? Well you my dear will have walked into a perfect place for that! Look to the corner where one of the windows stand with parted thick ebony drapes hang there is a table with a deck of cards on a small intimate round table with two chairs. This place is graced by one of two people on any given day in Hex...the lovely Leanne Marrama and the fantastic Kyri Spencer! Leanne is a perfect example of pyshic and witch . A lady with a powerful talent ( and Fabuluous big curly hair to match !), she is a go to person for a readin about yoursefl ( or a lover past or present ^_^ ) . Compassionate and sometimes tough, she will tell what you need know answer your questions, and even set you straight if you need it ! Of course , a wonderful add to this potent place of magic and energy is Kyri Spencer! Another powerfully talent witch and pyschic, she is someone who will tell you like it is but she is a caring and lovely person. Kyri , a fabulous mix of spunk and sassy flair, she will make you laugh and show you some things to help you improve yourself or of course combine her with Leanne and you'll know how to kick some ass and free yourself at the same time. Both Divalicious ladies fill the place with laughter, friendshhip, and of course the witty sacrasm you should expect from such exciting women of the Craft you can't go wrong! If you want a laught , and even a much need cry, then go down to Hex and discover yourself , or to meet kindred spirits then Come on down and enter with a pure heart though the doors and embrace the magic. Today was my first, certainly not my last trip to HEX. I went specifically for a reading with Lori and it was the best reading I've ever experienced. I have had several readings and this makes the others look like "fakes". My love for this store started several years ago when I was visiting family here on the East Coast. I walked into this store and instantly had a connection. The people were sassy and helpful and I vowed to come back. Fast forward several years and I'm now living in the area. I absolutely recommend getting a reading from Leanne or Laura. Leanne is warm hearted woman who will tell you like it is, not make something up like some people I have had readings from in the area. Everyone is very helpful and generally warm. October is the busiest time of year for them and even though you might have to wait a little bit to get into the store around that time I would highly recommend going into Hex and getting a reading or creating your own mojo bag. My friend and I were in Salem for the day. We had walked over 45 mins in the heat (90) to find a reading. Went to Magika and were very disappointed that we were ignored for almost 15 mins by the guy who sat at the counter and then treated like we were homeless people. We left, walked back in the heat to find Hex. It was before dinner and they were willing to fit us both in. We were able to pay by credit card (Magika said only cash!!) and it was my friend's first reading. She was pretty amazed. Mine was on the money. I believe his name was Stephen. I think this is one of the best stores in Salem. It has an incredibly authentic feel to it. It's a sister-store to Omen. Hex focuses more on the dark side of magic. This does NOT mean devil stuff. While the Omen shop has a prayer altar for the living, Hex's prayer altar is for the dead. The items and info focus more on hexes and spells. The people in the store a great. It's definitely worth the small distance past the end of the pedestrian only section of Essex street. read more

I went in to get some advice on how to deal with a specific situation. Tim who is an employee was very helpful and took the time to talk to me and advise me on the best possible way and planetary hours and he was so informative. I was reading some the reviews and although I am not friends with anyone in this store, I have to disagree with the negative feedback. I think Lori is a very warm, loving woman who is especially kind to children so she rates really high with me. I am planning on having my first reading with her this month and then I will review that as well. I have been to many stores in salem to find various items and must say that Tim was by far the most polite, informative, and helpful salesperson I have encountered so far. I noticed on the website that this store sells "orisha beads" which is actually very inappropriate and incorrect due to these sacred beads having to be consecrated properly by someone who is in the lukimi religion. These beads symbolize initiation into the lukimi faith and there is a ceremony that needs to be conducted by the godparent of the new believer. They also should be received in a set. These beads mean nothing without belief in the lukimi faith and without consecration. I believe that the owners of this store should do their research and not sell items that are sacred and require in depth ceremonies that take commitment and devotion. read more

The staff her are wonderful and extremely sweet. Don't be shy, because if you ask for help they are willing to explain anything and everything you want to know. I gave this place 3 stars because I went to have a reading done by Laurie Bruno. Let me say it was a complete waste of my money. I came there for the first time for a 30 minute reading. I was hoping to get some insight onto things since the first time I ever went to a psychic ever was just a year earlier and everything in my life turned upside down the day after, it was a nightmare. So I thought maybe I could turn it right side up or get some grasp on things. Well Laurie sat me down, and literally the second she pulled out her cards as she was shuffling and putting them down she started chatting to people in the store. She left the curtain open which was extremely distracting, it felt somewhat violating since you go to have a personal reading or insight and you have shoppers listening in. And I am sitting here not being able to focus because all she is doing is talking to others while she does everything. Then when she finally focused back on my reading she instructed me to ask 3 questions I wanted answers to, as I am telling her my questions she then whips out her cell phone and says she "hold on" she has to make a call!!!!!!!! No joke. She calls someone and proceeds to talk to them for about 5 minutes of my reading while I sit there awkwardly. Then when she is done she says all my questions will come true as if she never really listened to what I asked her and starts talking to another customer that walks in. I literally think she focused for about 10 minutes max on my 30 minute reading I paid 75 dollars for. I mean no disrespect but who stops someone's reading to make a phone call when customer pays to see you! I basically paid 75 dollars to have her make calls and socialize. I was utterly discouraged. She asked me if I knew a list of names, none of which I did, she predicted all these things that did and have not happened when she said they would.. I think if she focused on the reading instead of everything else maybe I would be able to say she has some intuition. She gave me a number and insisted I call it saying it will change everything. Already discouraged from my reading I hope maybe there was something to come from throwing away 75 dollars. Nope, it was the wrong number to the person she wrote down. When I googled the right number and called, leaving a message as Laurie instructed me to I never received a call back. Again the store is great but do not get a reading from Laurie. I am not a fan of speaking poorly about something but seriously spend your 75 dollars elsewhere!!!! read more

Traveled all the way from AZ to visit Salem. My first stop was to visit Hex. I was hoping for a friendly, welcoming experience. What happened was that i went in this store and was completely ignored the entire time I was in there shopping, despite the two employees behind the counter. The atmosphere was hostile, rude and I felt as if those two could have cared less they had a paying customer in there. I had made quite a shopping list for Hex but ended up leaving with nothing. I went down the street to Crow Haven Corner instead and was treated wonderfully. I bought quite a bit there and plan to go back. I wont set foot in Hex again. Neither will my friends. read more

I can tell she was making up stuff about every card that got laid down on the table. It is about things that are obvious and that everyone in life is searching for. I had heard many great things about HEX prior to my visit last summer and was anxious to take one of yearly sojourns to Salem to visit in person. I was not disappointed. I am very sensative to energies and when I walked through the door it was like I was enveloped in a nice,warm cloak. I have been know to walk in to shops only to immediately have to leave because of feelings of unease, but it certainly wasn't the case here. The products are great...many things that you're not able to find at other shops. Staff was wonderfully friendly and offered assistance without being pushy and annoying (anything thing I can't stand). I would have not hesitated to ask questions if needed and am sure the staff would have given all the time I needed. I did not have a reading while I was there...I'll save that for this years trip! A truly special shop in Salem! It is visual feast for the eyes and full of wonderful spell trinkets, potions, etc. You can tell the owner takes this very seriously and quality is a must. My first solo trip to Salem a few years ago I wandered into Omen and had a reading with the reader in that day, Leanne. From that time on I always go visit with her. Now that she is at Hex, Omen's sister shop, I read with her there. I thoroughly enjoy my time with her. When you sit with her, nobody else matters but you. Not who walked in the shop, not who might be calling her on her cell phone (which by the way I don't ever hear on while she's reading), not who's at the register etc. Leanne is honest.
