The best reading I have ever received! Debra is amazing! After much research on Yelp, I decided on hex because of the reviews. I was hoping to see one of the previous mentioned psychics from Yelp. However they weren't working that day and so I picked Debra on a whim. Boy am I glad I did! She doesn't have many Yelp reviews because she Is new to the store, but not new to readings. Debra was so accurate and on point ! She gave me all the feels. I said nothing and she just started reading me like a book. She repeated things that have come out of my mouth so many times it was crazy! Debrah is easy to connect with, trustworthy, and empathetic. I've known Christian Day, the proprietor of HEX, for a number of years now and seen his metamorphosis from being the creative powerhouse behind multiple web projects and businesses to seeing his manifesting one of Salem's BEST Witch / Occult shoppes in the country. I exaggerate, NOT. I'm nauseated by the overpopulation of Salem with schlocky, witchy, trinket hocker shoppes with their "love & light" BS while they backstab one another. It's refreshing to walk into an occult shoppe where you know EXACTLY who & what you're dealing with, their mission statement, & their take on the magickal arts. Christian is an open book and his store is as well. Everyone in Salem is trying to spin a buck, and HEX is no different in that - it's a business, why shouldn't it?! - but HEX stands apart in that it's not afraid to tread in some of the black & grey areas and *truly* serving all paths of the occult persuasion. Many other shoppes are afraid of that area of the magickal artes and the "image" they may be brandished with by insane fundamentalists who have NO business in our businesses in the first place. I know the ins and outs of the magickal retail field and am VERY happy to see someone who talks the talk and actually walks the walks. I appreciate HEX's edginess in a city that likes to bathe in whitewashing the Craft and I admire Christian's perseverance through years of adversity and opposition to his creative ideas. HEX & the Festival of the Dead have become some of the greatest occult businesses / attractions in all of the North East. So...if you're a MA local or visiting Salem from afar, definitely make HEX one of your stops. No repetitive Peter Stone pentacles here and certainly no angel-y-foo-foo trinkets. I stopped in here during the week to look around with a friend and I asked Lori how much it was for a reading. $40 for 15 minutes is about average for a really good reading by someone who knows what they're talking about (i.e. not by the guy at the Witch Museum on the Wharf who told a terminal cancer patient they'd have a long life). I digress. I came back on Saturday specifically for a reading with Lori and totally lucked out that her 1PM hadn't shown up yet. We sat in the front window and began. It was a little distracting and hard to take her seriously at first because she looks more like a character with all of her jewelry and her big, dyed black hair, but as soon as she started throwing down cards, it all came together and everything made sense. She knew way too many details about things that she couldn't have just guessed. Overall, I was extremely happy with the service and would recommend her to anyone who wanted a reading. read more

They take all of the time in the world to cash you out, not friendly say with a couple in the front and one person in front of us and the check out girl talked non stop for literally 25 minutes to the point where the girl put her stuff back and walked out and I waited another 10 minutes and did the same. Absolutely no regard to anyone else, no acknowledgement or hello or nothing. If you want over priced small packages of tools and want to waste an hour waiting in line, this is your spot. read more

I had planned on going to the Brooms Closet for a few things, but they never seemed to open (it was a Sunday). By chance I had parked near Hex and passed it on my way home after getting tired of waiting for BC to open. I popped in and was glad I did. It's a very unique store, with lots of energy, great selection of products, and a vast collection of books. I will be going here now for any of my needs ***Update*** I had a tarot reading done by Lori in the shop yesterday. At first I thought the tarot prices were a bit expensive, but now I'm glad I paid it and went to her. She is truly amazing, and such a sweet person. I had three things on my mind, two of which I had discussed with my friend on the ride up to the Salem. Lori hit on all of them, and was dead on!! She even got the name of my husband and asked me about him. I forget the name of the guy who was woking that day as well. Donnie maybe??? Depends on whom you got the reading from I guess... Mine was a disaster, all the answers she provided was vague, even the simplest ones... She was trying to lure and get the answers from me and when I tried to dig into get the actual answers, she was saying something like "we do not have enough time, we need to make a seperate reading for that, sorry got to go.." Sure, cause people are stupid enough to call again to make you earn more money in order not to get answers over a dissappoint reading...So basically, whether you would get a good reading or not is a hit or miss. read more

I spent the weekend in Salem with a group of girlfriends and seeing a psychic was very high on our to-do list. Unfortunately there are so many options, as it seems like every store front has a psychic poster! I did a little bit of research prior to choosing, and it seemed like Hex was a favorite. With a line out the door early in the morning, it felt promising. Tim was the psychic of the day and I can't even begin to tell you how incredible he was. His reading was unbelievably accurate- down to health information that I'm currently undergoing. I have to say, this place really intimidated me the first few times I walked by. I only visit Salem once every couple of years, and I think yesterday was the second time I went into the shop. It's totally worth a visit, if you're visiting other "magickly" inclined stores (and why wouldn't you? do you know where you are?). I don't know what it was, but walking by, I just felt like it wasn't somewhere I wanted to go in to, but this time I did, and I was glad of it. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. As others have said, great selection of products and books. I was highly entertained by a psychic reading that got interrupted and a loud discussion that went on about... I honestly don't even know what. I didn't buy anything, but I definitely got the sense that nobody would laugh at my questions there. You wont find reproduced catalog crap here. This shop is the legit real deal. I am a practicing Witch of 12 years so I can tell ya. Anyone who complains about pricing here hasnt been to other shops on Essex. Hex has both high dollar AND modest low dollar items. So anyone with any budget can walk out with something fun and useful. My last day I got a reading with Lori Bruno. I am a rune reader back home in DC and I read professionally. So I know what a good reading is like. First off, I got a 15 minute reading for $40 (which is what I charge myself, and im an amature) but we went for 25 minutes. Lori didnt waste any time and started throwing cards down right away. She called out people in my life by first name and sign. She told me the first name of my boyfriend AND his birthday. Exact birthday. It took my breath away. After the initial validation, the rest of the reading was so moving and empowering I had to fight back tears. She then gave me her card with a spell she wrote for me right there. She told me to call her if I need any help with my spiritual work. This is a witch-psychic who CARES. The old school legit, witch-of-the-village who wants to really help people. Ah, Salem: "the Witch City." For all its rich maritime history, Salem's present-day local economy thrives on exploiting that messy little witch-hanging incident which occurred here about 300 years ago. Nowadays you can't swing a dead cat (if you'll pardon the expression) without hitting some cheesy occult-themed tourist trap: from the stale museums to the palm reading parlors, and, of course, the dozens upon dozens of tacky witch shops selling the same gaudy mass-produced overpriced tchotchkes all over town. It's a true capitalistic spectacle for sure, but for better or worse, Salem has become a mecca for spooky wannabe teenagers and seasoned practitioners of the magical arts alike. But amidst all of the absurd touristy chaos, Hex rises above it all as a TRUE GEM: an authentic Witch shop run by authentic Witches. I have had the pleasure of visiting Hex on two separate occasions now, and I'll be sure to return in the future. The moment I walked in, I knew I had stumbled upon something special. As a Traditional Witch who walks the line of "light" and "dark," I like to see a shop that embraces both light and shadow sides of the Craft. The atmosphere inside is deliciously witchy yet happily devoid of all the dreadful kitch that you'll find elsewhere. Even better, the staff here are very friendly and helpful, which is a breath of fresh air after encountering too many condescending and/or downright dishonest shop owners at other shops in Salem. I'm not naming any names, but... buyer beware. Most importantly, however, is the incredible selection of items offered here at Hex. The shop might not be as large as many others in the Witch City, but the emphasis here is on quality, not quantity. It's obvious that a great amount of thought and care is put into stocking this shop to offer a wide variety of interesting things that you won't find anywhere else in Salem. Hex gets absolute top marks for having possibly best statuary selection I have ever seen, going well beyond the "typical" collection of images stocked by every other Pagan shops, including many statues imported from overseas. Their jewelry selection is equally impressive, again including many styles you likely won't find anywhere else. Their spell candles are of top quality, highly scented with essential oils and blended with herbs to suit just about any purpose. I cannot honestly comment on the quality of their oils or incenses, as I have yet to sample either, but the selection is vast. I will likely give them a try at some point. My ONLY criticism of this shop should be taken with an enormous grain of salt, as I am admittedly a tad biased, but I would really like to see more of the "classic" Wiccan titles on their bookshelf -- more books by Gardner, Valiente, Crowther, the Farrars, etc. would be a welcome addition to an otherwise excellent selection of reading material. Finally, one word to the wise: Hex maintains a working altar in their shop. By all means admire it, because it's absolutely beautiful. And it has a sign on it which kindly asks patrons not to touch it. So for the love of Pete, don't touch it. Both of the times that I've visited this shop, the staff had to (gently) tell some dim bulb to knock it off. I could tell it was a familiar spiel, likely repeated throughout the day. Seriously. I went into Hex looking for a good luck talisman and a few candles, but I think what I was really looking for was guidance and acceptance. I found all of the above here. They have everything from gemstones to candles to talismans and incense. They also have spell kits for anything you may need. The vibe was magickal, for lack of a better word to describe it. What made this witchcraft store stand out among the others that I've been to was the staff: Two witches, one with long long hair who helped me pick out good-luck stones for a charm I wanted to create (I wish I asked her name, she was lovely), and another witch named Laura who does readings in the front end of the store (also lovely). They were SO kind to me. And not the fake I-want-to-sell-you-everything-in-the-store nice. They didn't make me feel like I was a bother and they took the time to patiently answer all of my questions. I think they could sense that I was desperate for some answers about practicing traditional witchcraft and they didn't brush me off like some witches I've met in Salem have. My only regret was not exploring the store in it's entirety, but that just gives me an excuse to go back! read more

I was extremely disappointed when a friend and I both recently paid 40$ for a 15 minute tarot card reading with Laurie Bruno at the Hex shop. First of all, in both of our readings she rudely answered her phone, and proceeded to have a conversation in the middle of the reading. If this weren't enough she said the same generic line to both of us, "nothing holds you back" repeatedly, and none of the names or the things she said made sense to either of us. We were both very excited about the great things we had heard about Laurie before our experience, even a tour guide raved about her earlier in the day. Some of the other employees also seemed flustered, I hope this is not the normal, and perhaps we caught them on a bad day. Whatever the reason may be, we were both unsatisfied with our experience. read more

Cute little shop that I stopped on by while traveling to the Commons. They have this neat little altar with candles lit where you can write messages for anyone you know that has passed on, and you leave them there. They pretty much have everything you need if you are interested in the occult, witchcraft, or other odd items. I really wanted to love this place. First disclaimer we were there the week before Halloween. The staff was in attentive and very hard to get someone to help. Many of the items were ummm, kitchy lets say. Premade spells and things which isnt my scene. The alter in the place was AMAZING. Tons of energy off of it and I will say people were not reading the signs about no touchy active alter which made me crazy. I think the owners believe but there shop needs to be a bit less kitch and more for real witches and wizards. That could just be the time of year. Leanne completely missed the mark! Me and my friends went to Leanne recently for individual readings. We had high hopes for some information to come our way and maybe connect with some loved ones we've lost. While Leanne was an extremely nice person, she kept going on about people that I'd lost, but nothing she said described them. She said that my Mom "never liked to cook and would rather grab a drink and sit at the table and watch someone else do it." Wow, that was SO NOT my Mom. My Mom drank very rarely, at a party here or there, and never at home. She cooked all the time and enjoyed feeding her family, and was good at it too. She said she saw my Dad growing up with brothers and uncles and them all fishing at the ocean. That would have been very difficult to do as he lived in Kansas. I started feeling bad so threw her a few crumbs that she could feed off of. She talked about one person, who could have described someone I'd lost, but then went into more detail about the person he was now with and that person was a friend of mine too and that they were together and that my Mom used to really like my friend. Well, she went to far, as the only person she could have possibly been describing was someone who never met my Mom, nor did we have many friends in common. And, the ones we DO have in common, are all still very much alive. To confirm even more for me that this was a waste of $75.00 per person, the friend that went right after me was told that her Mother "walked into the store right behind her and was chatting on and on." Unfortunately for Leanne, that turned my friend right off since her Mom was safely at home and is alive and kicking today. I had read lots of good reviews so was very hopeful and ended up only very disappointed. I guess many of the positive reviews must be bogus and written by friends or employees. Too bad. Can't recommend anyone waste their time and money there. read more

Definitely the coolest store in Salem. This shop is filled with all your witching needs. The lady working at the store was super helpful at explaining how everything worked before buying it. It's such a fun place to look around and impossible not to buy something. Everything is set up in such a visually appealing way. I've been around in Salem, MA for over a decade now and have seen multiple shops come and go over the years so when I heard about this new shop Hex opening up I have to admit, my expectations weren't that high. I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. The inventory there is astonishing due to the fact that there are so many exclusive things that one can find there that you won't find in any of the other shops. (Anyone who knows Salem knows that stock repetition in so many of the other stores is a drag.) And although they have great gift items, what really sets them apart is their supplies for ritual there, it's amazing. So many hard to find things in Salem are right there at your fingertips for your alter needs. I've also lived in quite a few different states in the US and in all of my travels have never seen a store like this. If you are in Salem, a Witch or not, looking for ritual supplies, a gift for someone else, or even just a little something for yourself, you truly owe it to yourself to visit this gem of a shop in Salem. read more

Came here with my partner last year and I love the space its what I would have my house look like if I could. There incense collection is outrageously amazingly large! Very informative shop and and the owner is super funny and down to earth she stopped to talk with me about tattoos, which I thought was cool since the store was pretty busy and she took the time to connect to customers on a personal level! read more

The store used to be one of my favorites in Salem. I absolutely still love the products here but the customer service is absolutely atrocious! All the sales associates hover over you the entire time you step in from the time you leave when the store is really not that big to begin with. When I have called the store the store owner had instructed that the manager to hang up on people if tge store was crowded. If a business is busy the proper way to approach a customer is to say it is very busy right now would it be possible to call you back at a different time and take down the customers number. The readers there have become very snotty when they make a ridiculous amount of money. Regardless of what the house takes or cuts they still make a lot of money every day. Some of these readers even have their own businesses outside of the shop so I don't wanna hear any sob stories that they don't get paid enough because that's a load of bull. Will never come back to the store again! They are the only store that sells what I buy monthly in Salem. Newcomers and tourists be aware of this shop! If you can handle bad customer service and fake people you should be fine but if you're looking for friendly service you will definitely not find it here! read more
