I've been coming bi-weekly over the past few months. I really appreciate the high quality of Hewn's bread. I have to be careful though because everything looks so good especially if I see something new. I appreciate how some items are rotated throughout the week. Some of my favorites are the baguette, morning bun, monkey bread, holmenkollen, and durum. They also have special items on holidays such as king cake for fat Tuesday. Prices are on the high side, but for the quality you get, I feel it's worth it!

I wish there were 6 stars!! In addition to their beyond excellent and healthy and wonderful bread, they are currently making pastries with fresh strawberries. Good sandwiches and many kinds of (French bakery) treats. Coffee bar with excellent drinks. Highly recommended. Staff is welcoming, kind, and efficient. Always busy, but the line moves quickly. Check the web site to find the breads of the day and to place holiday orders.

A line out the door on the Saturday morning before Easter should be a good indicator at this place's popularity. The Great Harvest a few blocks down did not boast the same we noticed. They were out of the ciabatta bread we wanted, but we ended up getting a baguette to try. It smelled amazing and was very similar to what I had in France. We also drooled over the chocolate Almond croissant which is so messy but so worth it. The combination of the Almond, chocolate and buttery pastry was heavenly. We also had the canela(sp?) which the very attentive employee explain had a custard creme brulee flavor. It wasn't as sweet as I expected but was really tasty. It would be perfect with some coffee.

Nothing quite like fresh pastries Looking for a great shop in the suburbs? Look no further than @hewnbread!! We stumbled into their Evanston location after a little mishap at their neighbor's (who will not be mentioned, but iykyk) shop next door. But, if it wouldn't have been for that mishap we wouldn't have gotten to try Hewn for the first time!! They had a variety of delicious looking pastries and a menu full of coffees, sandwiches, and other snacks. We grabbed the Everything Bagel Croissant and a Cinnamon Brioche! They were fantastic!! We heated the Cinnamon Brioche for just a few seconds and it was just lovely We're definitely returning for some sandwiches soon!!

Let's be real, bakeries are a dime a dozen in Evanston so it was real nice to find one where the pastries and baked goods are above beyond the rest. Hewn had a simple, open and rustic set up but it's great to see the baked goods all lined up for the day. I also saw the bakers at work in the kitchen, so I know I was going to get good quality pastries. I decided on the monkey bread and sticky bun and they're absolutely delicious! I paired them with coffee and it's even better! The man behind the counter was super nice and courteous and he even explained about their holiday order availability and cut off. Can't wait to come back and try more of their goodies!

I love hewn. Been going to the one in Evanston for years. My one complaint is the " no cash" policy.

Delicious bread but the parking is terrible. Locations are time consuming to reach from the nw suburbs.

Ask the Community - Hewn Bakery

Do they have Cinnamon Bun?

Yes! They have cinnamon brioche buns and I believe the morning buns have cinnamon as well. My favorite breakfast treat is kouign amann.

Do they have a cafe too? Al place to sit and east the pastries?

With Covid still rampant, this is not really a place to sit down. there ARE benches to sit at, but no 'tables' per se. Perhaps in the spring, outdoor seating will be available.

My friend and I decided to get lunch to-go and eat at her place. We both were intrigued by the same two sandwiches, so we decided to order both and split them. I highly recommend this approach since everything is so delicious! We ordered the Chana Melt and the Paneer Tikka sandwiches. Both were so tasty! We had a slight preference for the Chana Melt, but we agreed we loved the Paneer Tikka, so splitting was perfect! The sides are also scrumptious! The coleslaw is crisp and refreshing and the cumin chips are decadent and delicious. I even liked dipping the chips in the coleslaw. Yum! Prices were very reasonable and the order-ahead was super slick and easy. The store front is cute and inviting and the pickup for the food was seamless. No complaints! I can't wait to try Inspired Indian Cooking again, especially the sandwiches we didn't try. Delicious! And vegetarian! Amazing!

I braved the year's first snow day of Chicago to pick up a Bombay sandwich and a cup of chai. It's…read moremy first time here. The pre-order to pick up process via their website was very easy. The Bombay sandwich is extraordinary. Generous amount of ingredients that will satisfy any and all cravings you might have for spicy, sweet, salty, crunchy, pickled, fresh and vibrant. It's not a cheap sandwich, but it's big and split into 2, and since it comes with good quality Indian-spiced chips and a colorful and mayo-free slaw that satisfies the bitter part of the flavor spectrum, you have a complete lunch to share with a friend. I'm really picky about chai. I love it creamy, with cardamom, and with a slight sweetness from condensed milk. The only two chai teas I like in Evanston/Skokie are the irani chai at Complimentary Cafe (on Fri-Mon)... and this one. And both are very reasonably priced. I'll be back to celebrate pay day with a pickup lunch here! :)
