Heval Café located along Spadina Ave near Cecil St. is the newest coffee shop in the area selling coffee and pastries (made in house!). The word "heval" is a Kurdish word meaning "friend". The coffee shop is primarily take out only although there is a small bench at the back of the space if you'd like to have your items there. The space is also accessible, although there is a small step to get to the entrance. They recently opened where it is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. The coffee shop is open daily from 8am to 6pm.
Menu wise, there is coffee as well as pastries. Coffee wise, they have your usual espresso based drinks (espresso, cortado, americano, flat white, cappuccino, latte), as well as matcha, cold brew, filtered coffee and seasonal lattes. All their pastries are made in house where they have butter croissants, a pistachio rose croissant, chocolate croissant, a blackcurrent matcha Danish, a vanilla custard croissant, almond croissants, as well as focaccia sandwiches.
I stopped by Heval Café on a Monday morning around 10:30am. Upon entering the café, the smell of freshly baked pastries consumed my senses. The coffee menu was simple where I opted to order a cortado. The great thing is that I was also able to choose my coffee bean of choice (one being more chocolately/nutty and the other one being fruitier). I also opted to grab a pistachio rose croissant as well since the pastries on display looked so delicious!
Service was friendly and another customer also stated that the focaccia was great a well. My cortado tasted great and the pistachio rose croissant was heavenly!
Overall, a great new coffee shop in the area for coffee and pastries! read more
