So how does a brand like Hertz get a negative review? They allow the local leadership and management justify 3 hr lunches for starters. The office hours are a grueling 8-5 M-F. But lunch is from 12:30 to 3:30. When I showed up to get my 2pm rental, I was surprised to find a sharpie hand written note that they closed for lunch, for 3 hrs. Further, when hertz does not have easy human interaction on chat or phone, and hours are posted in app, the expectation is that there is enough staff to cover lunches. The system reported that I picked up the car but I couldn't. The human when I was finally able to get the local staff on the phone actually justified that they "need to take a lunch!" Like I was asking him to fast for a week. He tried to justify that 3 hrs for lunch is reasonable. I'm not a monster, obviously the office needs to drive to Bakersfield to eat or cooks lunch in a slow cooker. Buy a microwave for this office. Or just close it. read more

Pros: My vacation destination did not have an electrical car charger and I was able to rent a car right away from Hertz and drive back to my destination. The staff was compassionate to my plight. They told me the best place to park my car to avoid accidents and would allow them to keep an eye on it. The return process was very quick. Cons: Veronica was not very warm until I mentioned that I would make a Yelp review and mention a staff member who was tremendously helpful. (Keyshawn is a ROCKSTAR, who saved my vacation! He deserves his own separate review!!!). Veronica also told me that the only vehicle available was a much more expensive SUV, which I did not need. As it was only me and my son and this was an unexpected expense (not to mention high gas prices), a compact or mid-size was all that was needed. If not for Keyshawn who mentioned a Toyota Corolla THAT WAS PARKED RIGHT OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR AND WAS AVAILABLE, I would have had to take the more costly SUV Veronica presented as the only available vehicle. After I mentioned Yelp, she warmed up. Keyshawn is the hero of our vacation. I was not prepared to pay for an SUV and he realized I was being hustled and ensured all options were presented to me. He was friendly, quick to help, honest- everything an employer wants in an employee. When we returned the car, he reminded me to double-check for any belongings left then immediately began cleaning it so that it was ready for the next customer. Pre paid and would not give my car due to a "safety hold" would not allow us to speak to manager and would not give us a refund. Veronica at the front desk was very rude and discriminated against me. we are suing immediately for discrimination. Gave us a bogus 1800 number so they could take my money and run. At this location I was overcharged by 5 days. A simple $40 rental ended up costing me over $300. A month and a half later this situation is still not remedied. When I went in person to sort this out the manager tried to say I had no proof of my return date, and therefore no changes to billing would be made. One of the employees vouched that I returned the car on the scheduled date (apparently she remembered me because I waited in line a very long time). Reluctantly the manager insisted that it is impossible to modify a "closed" transaction. I would need to wait 6-8 weeks for the corporate office to issue me a refund through a live check. I followed up a month later to learn no adjustments were made. The Hertz representative on the phone agreed to reimburse my credit card in 7 days. This is better than waiting for a paper check in 6-8 weeks as I was previously told, but still egregious customer service. Lessons for this location: the manager would have overcharged me if she could; the manager lied about submitting the reimbursement and she lied about the processing time. Perhaps a dip in business will force her to appreciate customers and actually WORK to earn patronage. read more

Trying to modify plans through Hertz rental car and Expedia is an absolute nightmare. Neither of them know what they are doing and they both give you the runaround. I didn't even want to fully cancel my reservation with Hertz. I just needed to change my dates of travel due to family illness. They couldn't even do that. I just got back from my trip this weekend and to begin with I was jumping through hoops trying to find a rental last week for the trip. I went through 3 reservations from enterprise dealing with there dumb policies and I almost gave up and didn't go on my trip. If I could give less I would. Showed up for my reservation, and was informed that they didn't have a car for me. This was at 4pm. When asked for an explanation, i was told "I don't know." When I asked why I wasn't notified, Veronica casually replied "I must have skipped you, but I tried calling most of my customers." I asked if there was a reason why I was skipped Veronica, who is a grown woman, at least 65 years old looking, stated "I guess I just missed your name". Meanwhile, there was a younger man sitting at the counter with his hands behind his head and feet on the service counter. The only remotely helpful person was an older gentleman who handed me a brochure with the corporate number's phone number on it when Ms. Veronica sat there staring at a computer screen. I always heard that Hertz was trash, but with employees like Veronica, they are taking garbage service to new depths. Apparently there is only one employee handling everything and the one time I got her on the phone she said she does not answer the phone when a customer is in the office. Renter beware! Edit to add - Hertz has made this right and will be speaking with those involved to ensure this does not happen to anyone else. We just came back from a wonderful 2 week vacation on the West Coast. We rented a Tesla (2 stars for the cleanliness and well maintained car) from LAX. When asked if we wanted the "optional" coverage for damage we declined as, our insurance and credit card would cover any losses. As we sit and wait for the car to be brought to us, about half hour 45 minutes pass, and no one comes out with our car. We go back inside where the clerk tells us we actually had MORE documentation to sign that her manager had just given her. Confused, but trying to be patient and understanding, as to why we just sat waiting for over half an hour and was never told about additional paperwork. Long story short, they advised us that we could NOT waive the protection coverage because of the car type and model. If we wanted the car (which we needed) then we would have to pay the almost $500 additional to take it. Reluctantly, thinking we had no choice, we signed. Fast forward to yesterday, I reached out to Hertz to find out where this policy can be found in writing after speaking to ANOTHER Hertz rental agent (we had a second rental in another state during our trip), he informed us there is no such rule and to call Hertz to speak with corporate about the lying and the upselling. I did just that. When I spoke to a woman last night she assured me also that because of the model and type of car it was we were required to purchase the almost $500 coverage. I thought huh, Ok then... I hung up the phone and started to search for such a policy online, could not find a single mention of it. I email corporate and got the below reply, CONFIRMING that we were tricked and lied to now by SEVERAL employees. So, renter BEWARE Hertz cannot be trusted! I am sorry for any inconvenience and for any misunderstanding regarding the rental charges billed on your past rental. I understand this has caused you great concern. I reserved a car online for a weekend trip and when I get down there guess what? NO CARS! I got the confirmation via email and everything and they told me there was nothing they could do except put me on a list for possibly renting a car. Given, I did try and reserve the car earlier that day but I was told my the manager that they don't keep real time inventory online. What's the point of having online reservations if you aren't guaranteed a car?? It's 2017 and you should have a better option than to tell people you'll "put them on a list." I was in town on a business trip, and needed to get some wheels that would get me from there to Los Angeles. I made the reservations on-line for a 2 day week day rental and reserved a economy class car as that was what work would reimburse me for. To be honest I'm not picky, and as long as it had 4 wheels, an engine and AC. But I was expecting to have a Chevy Aveo or Cobalt or even at best a Hyundai Accent waiting for me. So imagine my surprise when I got dropped off and the gentleman inside who warmly greeted me and asked if I would like to be upgraded free of charge for a Nissan Sentra and he would throw in a free tank of gas and complementary insurance. Of course I initially was wondering why I was getting such a great deal, and he mentioned it had to do with the car needing to be serviced at one of their larger rental location. The car was in pristine working order, and the service in the office was the fastest I've ever experienced. I think within 5 minutes of walking in, I finished the paperwork and was in the car adjusting my windows. Definitely going to continue to work with them the next time Im in town! read more

Customer service for this location is awesome! I rented a pickup truck to be picked up at 7:30am. The day before my reservation, one of their employees called me and we confirmed my reservation. A few hours later, somehow things got mixed up and I was informed that there was no pickup truck for me and their shop was closing for the day. I was told that they would try to get a truck for me as soon as possible in the morning. I was worried because I really needed the truck. I had hotel reservations out of town for my entire family and we couldn't afford not to go because of the fine associated with cancelling those reservations. Originally, I was upset because I reserved the car one week ahead. On the day of my pick up, I spoke to a woman named Elli (I think that is how you spell her name. She has a thick Finnish accent). She was so nice and I don't know what it was about her but I couldn't be upset at the situation because of her. She was very nice, polite, and apologetic over the phone and assured me that they would have a car for me. I ended up picking up the truck at noon instead of the 7:30am pick up time. When I arrived at their location, they discounted my rental price from $408 to $382 because of the delayed pick up time. Two weeks after I returned the pick up truck, I received a $50 voucher that I can use in my next rental. I will definitely be using that $50 voucher. Now all I have to do is figure out where to go :P read more

I usually rent from this location and get excellent service, Friday I went to pick up my car with reservation confirmation in hand at 5 PM and they said that if I made the reservation same day, it would not show on their reservations, but the biggest disappointment was that when I asked if they could help me find a car else where the answer was NO. I got dropped off at 5 pm, no car and no where to get one, they said that I should have called first, really, how was this my fault????? It wasn't find fault but certainly my problem! Had they made an effort to help me, I would have given them a 5 star for effort but telling me they were sorry and that they were only the messenger, yes he said that to me! is why I did a one star, trying to make it right rather than defending it would have made all the difference in the world. read more

What they don't let you know is that the advanced day reservations are priority and if they are there to pick up their vehicle, you have to wait. Reserved an economy car online. When I checked in at the desk, the woman at the counter said they did not have any economy cars and I had to upgrade to a full size car for more money. I was in little position to argue at the time since my car was in the shop, but reflecting back on this, this leaves me with a pretty unfavorable impression of Hertz, as both a customer and a [now former] shareholder. First problem is the website accepting a reservation for a car that was not available (I made the reservation minutes before I walked into the office). Second problem is forcing me to upgrade. Proper customer service would have been to honor the price that was shown to me on the reservation confirmation. I've since sold my shares in the company. If their business practices angered me, they are on the path of alienating whatever is left of their customer base. read more

ACCIDENT UPON ACCIDENT... I was in an accident and needed a rental. My insurance uses Hertz as their rental company but as soon as i selected "need a rental" online they called me within 5 minutes to confirm my reservation. Not only that when I went in to get a car the guy up front Steven made it extremely easy to get a car and be on my way. 1 week after having my rental my car was parked on the street and an older man backed into my rental from the drive way across the street. (yes I was devastated) I called the 1800 # and the gentleman (I wish I remembered his name because he was awesome!) helped me QUICKLY to fill out my accident report and give me a case #. The damage made the driver side door difficult to open so i decided to called our Hertz store in town and again Steven answered, I explained my situation and he kindly explained that its no problem and to come in and exchange the car. SO awesome and i'm so grateful that this whole experience was as "easy" as it could be because of Hertz. LOL. read more

To begin this hertz didn't give me the midsize suv I ordered. They gave me a small suv. I ordered a midsize specifically because I needed a midsize. So they switched me to a truck which was all they had. So I had to wait while they cleaned the truck. Both the small suv and truck were given to me with no gas, barely enough to make it to the gas station. The truck was filthy, dirt caked into the vents, a random white gunk caked on near the seatbelt, smelled foul. It took me 45 mins to clean the interior and a whole canister of Clorox wipes. So about an hour later I begin my 12 hour driving overnight trip. Within an hour the truck dash started beeping at me saying the tire air pressure is low. I tried to ignore it but the dash shows you the #psi and it went from 38 to 24 in a short time. I stopped to fill it up. Got back on the road and the warning light came back on. Sure enough I stopped and now both left side tires were clearly low, going flat. This happened over and over. My entire 12 hour overnight driving trip I had to keep stopping at sketchy places to fill the tires. I finally make it to my destination 13.5 hours later. I switched the truck at a bigger hertz location when I made it to my destination. With the new midsize suv I received I made it from my destination back home in 12 hours like the trip there should have been. I'm obviously not happy with spending the time cleaning a nasty truck, not getting what I originally ordered, spending lots of time and money filling air in tireS and receiving no discount or anything for the trouble and hassle. This is quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced when renting a car. My husband and I temporarily relocated to Visalia for 4 months. We arrived yesterday evening and started looking today for a long-term rental car for him. We stopped in at Hertz around 11:55a (not knowing they closed at noon). We told the woman at the counter that we were looking for a 4-month rental to start today. She sighed a big sigh out loud and told us she was actually closed and couldn't help us. She said we could call the 800 number on Monday but she couldn't help us. She made no effort to help us in any way, and offered no apologies.
