Needed a car for a couple of days. I spoke with a kind gentleman on the phone confirming the models available. I came in that afternoon and picked it up. The car was clean and in top working order. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone showed me the features on the vehicle, there was minimal wait time, and I was in and out quickly. Returning it was quick and easy after hours with a key drop at the door and the final cost was exactly as quoted. If we need to rent again, we will definitely contact Hertz. read more

The worst customer service I have ever encountered from a transportation agency. Rented a car well in advance of travel. I'm the kind of person that understands extra fees and I try to smile and grit my teeth through it. All of that depends upon actually being given a car, though, and despite assurances that we would have a rental waiting, was told that they already rented their entire stock when I arrived. No problem, I was assured that in 45 minutes two more cars would arrive and I would get one of those. No word from them so NINETY minutes later I called and was told those two cars were also already rented to people. No ETA on a new vehicle. I asked if I would get the next rental that showed up. Keep in mind this is over 4 hours after our rental time, by which I should have been arriving at my destination. After FOUR HOURS of this, I was told that I was "on a waiting list" for a car, of which I was the third person in line. Meaning I was actually initially the fifth person in line. Oddly enough this was the first time a "waiting list" had been mentioned in this process. Look. I'm as understanding of a person as possible. I try to always see the other side of things and understand that things happen and there are more variables than I can count on the other side of the counter. To wit, this is my first negative review I've left in more than a decade. But after 4 hours: 0 cars. 0 notices. 0 updates or contact attempts by Hertz. 0 mention of a wait list. 0 concessions or anything offered other than the most token "I'm sorry" ever, effectively stranding myself and my family 1500 miles from home. 0 chance I'll ever use this complete sham of a company again. read more

This is the worst customer service I have ever had with a car rental agency. The manger, Mike K, is disrespectful and aggressive. I will never rent from Hertz again. This Hertz location rented me a vehicle with a nail in the tire. I didn't notice it on pickup. There tire had lower pressure when I picked up, but still in the normal range. After a day of losing pressure and me refilling it and losing pressure again, I called Hertz to organize an exchange and was told it would be fine. When I arrived, Mike K refused to exchange the vehicle and began to SCREAM at me. He cut me off multiple times and screamed and screamed at me. He belittled my partner. I phoned Hertz and the agent on the phone heard him screaming. Because he refused to honor the swap request, I was forced to go to Discount Tire to have the tire fixed for free, at my time expense, since the closest swap was in St. Louis and it was unsafe to drive the vehicle. Horrible! On vacation with my family when car malfunctioned on freeway, losing most power including power brakes and steering. Rented car from Hertz and limped on over to salvation. Nope! No cars available today, sorry! Or tomorrow, for that matter. Are you kidding? Not even an apology when I told them our vehicle was dead in parking lot with family and two dogs in sweltering heat. We sat in parking lot trying to get assistance for 4 hours right in front of empty store. Do you think maybe they'd offer to have us come in to the AC or have some water ? Nope. The worst customer service one could ever dream of. I would NEVER use Hertz, even if it was the last car rental in the world. The worst part is that between the time I rented car and arrived for pick up, a walk in came in and rented the SUV I rented 30 minutes earlier. Thanks for nothing... The store was an absolute mess, leaves everywhere and mud on the floor. The car we got was good and no issues with customer service that is until the $50 deposit. After returning the rental we never got it back we tried calling customer support and they told us it was our bank since they sent the transfer numbers. Called the 6th St store and they told us they never took the money just had a hold but we never saw the $50 again. Ones telling us they sent it back and one is saying they don't take money. It sucks because $50 is really something we needed. read more

My experience at the Hertz office on 6th Street in Springfield was perfect in all regards. Quick service, friendly associates, clean car and so forth. I left my vehicle on site which was helpful. I returned the vehicle on Sunday, as scheduled, and the return process was simple and quick. All of this rates a 5 star review for the 6th street Hertz. BUT, there was an issue. When I reviewed my monthly credit card bill I saw a Hertz charge for $45.61 3 days after my rental. The local Hertz office did not know what the charge could be for and noted that the rental was returned on time and with a full tank of gas so they saw no issues and suggested I contact Hertz corporate. I did this by email and got a response several days later that said the charge was a "No Show" fee and that "after a thorough review" they would be issuing me a credit. I thanked them but expressed surprise that they would impose such a charge without contacting the local Hertz office. Further, I questioned the effectiveness of their systems and wondered how many customers inadvertently paid such a fee without noticing it on their bill but was grateful to them that they did not report the rental as stolen by me, which has happened to other customers. So, rent from Hertz but carefully check your credit card statement afterwards. read more

If I could leave less of a star I would. Do not use this rental company. You will potentially see hidden charges or charges or options changed without your knowledge. I utilized an option to prepay for fuel at 2.47 a gallon and they pumped 13.5 gallons upon return return but charged me the 16 gallons the car was told it could hold. I called corporate and they back this policy and they think it's fair. When I called about the contract the office actually changed the option of prepay to a flat rate option that I wouldn't have caught because you are not given visual proof until you sign and it's complete. The company reasons that if I brought back the car full of gas, they can charge me morally and legally all the fuel the vehicle for 16 gallons of gas since they don't provide credit for fuel left in the vehicle upon return. This was a smaller vehicle and I lost 6 dollars. If it's a large vehicle you will lose a lot more. You are better off filling it up where it was upon rental if you don't rent elsewhere. I would recommend a better company that won't defraud you out of your money and fully justify doing so. I will continue to push this issue with the corporate office and will never utilize them myself or allow my company or friends to utilize them either. read more

This rental car gave away a car that I prepaid for and forced me to pay an extra $150 since a luxury car is the only one they have available. Again, this is despite prepaying for the car. They allow third party groups such as Priceline to create and accept payment for a reservation with a pick-up time that they know are OUTSIDE of their business hours. I will be submitting a formal complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as this practice is unethical. read more

This is our second time renting from this location. We have had zero problems with them. The gentlemen are always friendly. Check in and paperwork is always quick. We always book online and prepay. We are always able to leave our personal vehicle on site while we are gone. I would only suggest slowing down and explaining better when you go over the final breakdown of cost. I did not question the 200$ deposit because I have rented from them before so I knew what it was. I could see how someone who had not been there before would be thrown off by it being added to the total. They also prefilled the gas tank and charged me. I wasn't given the option to decline. Not complaining because they charged me less than the gas station was advertising down the road. I will continue to rent from here. read more

Can I give them less than 1 star? My husband and I went to the 6th Street location to pick up a car for a trip. Walking in the door, the two women at the desk were clearly unhappy with being there. The "Manager Trainee" asked my husband what he needed and those were literally the last words she spoke until the end of the transaction. We had rented and pre-paid for a car online and as she started to process the rental she got on the phone and made a call. While on the phone, she asked my husband to sign the contract without going over anything and then proceeded to charge our card for an additional $200 "deposit" without explanation. When we asked her why, she stated that was there policy. When we asked where it stated that, she told us online. (I have attached a picture of the online notification) She wouldn't tell us why we were being charged that deposit and didn't give us a chance to refuse and rent someplace else because she didn't review it with us. Finally, she threw the key on the table and got up and walked away...didn't even tell us what car we had rented! I know this is long but PLEASE save yourself some trouble and DO NOT rent from Hertz. I booked a rental weeks in advance. The rental agency gave vehicles in the group to two walk in rentals that arrived just before us. They tried to "upgrade" me to a larger vehicle, which was not what I wanted as I chose to rent a vehicle for better gas mileage for a trip. Issue is, we had to drive 25-30 minutes to go get that vehicle. Took time out of our schedule because we had to do the work of the Hertz dealership. I am very disappointed with Hertz for the fact that I prepaid and scheduled for a pickup and the employees gave those vehicles away to walk ins. What's the point of reserving a vehicle? And then having to drive around due to their lack of consideration? Ridiculous. read more

After emailing back and forth, I was promised a car would be delivered to the auto shop my vehicle was having work done. Go to drop off my vehicle, no car for me. I called and they said I hadn't given them all the information needed, even after confirming the drop off date and time through email. I rented a vehicle from Hertz from the Fort Walton-Destin Airport and when the clerk asked me if I wanted any damage insurance, and I verbally declined. Then he asked me to sign for the vehicle, which I did. The next thing I know, I have a $253 charge on my credit card for damage/ liability insurance. I went through the proper channels with Hertz and they refused to refund my money. I would NEVER accept damage insurance for $253! That's insane! I will never rent from Hertz again based off their poor customer service. I have read this has happened to many other people as well. This is very unfortunate and a bad business model. Do not use HERTZ period!! Worst company to deal with from all aspects!! This location misinformed me on how to book my rental online and ended up costing me an extra day of rental fees. When confronted about it they said sorry, nothing we can do. Bank wouldn't reverse the extra charges because it was all verbal and I had nothing in writing. So good for you Hertz, you have your money, but now you also have a really ticked off customer that will tell everyone I can about what a POS company you are, all over 40$. Would love to do 0 stars, but couldn't get this to post without selecting one. Do NOT rent a car from this Hertz location. I had a reservation to pick up my car at 5:00pm. I called ahead at 4:57 to let them know I would be 5 mins late as I was WALKING there in rainy/wet weather. The man I spoke with told me flatly that they close at 5:00pm. I asked if he would stay a few mins until I got there. He just kept repeating when they close. Why on earth would a company let you make a reservation for the time they close? I worked in retail for decades. I know it's frustrating to have a customer come in right at closing or ask you to stay late. Not ONE single time did I ever turn away a customer. I most certainly would not have under these circumstances. What really frustrates me is why he didn't tell me that earlier in the day when I called them with a question? I asked if they would bring me the car (like they advertise). I was told curtly they don't do that. Why would a company advertise that if it's not the case? This is HORRIBLE customer service! This was our first time using this company and will NEVER go through them again. We paid for our rental 2 weeks in advance and they told me everything was good to go. We went to pick up our rental and they asked if we wanted to put the insurance on and we said yes. We had cash in hand and he ran the card with the $125 for the insurance plus $200 for the deposit and added on a tank of gas. He ran the card BEFORE telling us they didnt accept cash when they clearly saw we had cash in our hand ready to pay. The card declined because we were going on vacation out of state and we had pulled everything out in cash. I called their corporate phone number and that was no help at all. All she told me was that if the card declined then there was no reason why he couldn't reverse the transaction. This place was rude and it felt like they had a "sucks to be you" attitude. I will never use them or recommend them. Terrible customer service and no willingness to help fix the situation at all.
