Stoped here for a night on our honeymoon. Staff was amazing, everything was really clean and nice. We stayed in a deluxe cabin. We did notice a stab spot on our door... my husband put his knife in it and it fit perfectly. So someone in the past literally stabbed the door with a knife... kinda creepy. But overall was a good experience. The mini golf is old and falling apart. The staff member said that they were planning on redoing it this year. read more

First trip here. Booking online was easy. I was unsure about not knowing my site ahead of time but it worked out. Checked in and the young girl behind the desk was very helpful and informative. Went straight to our site and got set up. If you have children, this is a good location, there's two inflatable bounce houses with roof, bikes they can borrow, a pool seasonally, putt putt golf and a playground. There is a K9 park but it was pretty small so not sure it was worth it. The campground itself is small and sites are somewhat close together but it wasn't a busy weekend thankfully. Not sure if I'd enjoy it during a busy weekend. There was a gentleman who drove around in the evenings on a golf cart asking how things were. I noticed a lot of people only stayed one night so I was curious as to why they chose to just pass through or if there was a problem. Overall, I'd probably visit again just maybe in the shoulder season vs prime season. read more

An absolute GEM! The owners and employees are the sweetest folks! A very great property, well maintained, lots of activities to do! I love how this is way off the beaten path, secluded surrounding beautiful corn & soybean farmland. The site is well covered with shade, this is a MUST stay. The owner was even sweet enough to call me ahead of time and give me an alternative route since they had some flooding down some ways from their camp. Our cabin was very clean, tidy, and had all the basic supplies so we could GLamp great grill and fireplace, great outside seating. The pool was fantastic, the mini golf, the bikes, the park were all great as well the bouncing pad was not operating because of COVID, but that's ok! There is enough to do anyway! We stayed at this rv resort and in the morning Linda saw me come from the trailer to the laundry room and she came in there and asked me if I came from spot # and I said yes and then she said that check out is at 12pm and she had someone else coming in for the spot we where in and we need to leave and it was only 11 and so I went back to the trailer and Packed up but there where only 5 other trailers there so I don't know why she was rude to use then she jumped in her car. read more

When we pulled up at the "Stop Here Sign" we saw a woman in a yellow KOA shirt getting on her golf cart. As soon as she saw us, she shook her head in obvious annoyance that she had to go back into the office. I thought to myself "well that's a great greeting." But, I'm a kill them with kindness type of person so I smiled and said hi. I saw here name was Linda. We are VIP KOA members and have camped all over the United States (30 states so far) in many, many KOA's. I wanted to use some of my KOA reward points to take some money off of our stay and she told me that's not allowed for 1 night stays. I know that's a lie because I have used that reward many times for one night stays. Linda seemed annoyed that I even asked but I did not want to push the issue. After research I found out Linda is the owner of this KOA. And many people have had issue with the way she can treat some people. Honestly, I've never come across such a unpleasant worker or owner at a KOA as Linda was. With Camping at a KOA I have certain expectations. And one of them is the KOA motto of "Making it Great". Linda is failing at that. First impressions really are everything. And Linda failed miserably at KOA's "Making it Great" motto. I did not use the facilities so I can not review that part. Both directions into the camp you have very narrow roads with sharp blind curves. If you come from the west you will have to cross a narrow one vehicle at a time bridge. The cell service is 1 bar AT&T 5G with spotty service. And 1 bar Verizon lte with ok service. Sites are very close together. Roads inside the campground are decent. I would NEVER come to this campground (Springfield KOA Journey, In Rochester, Illinois) again, based on Linda's unpleasant and rude demeanor, the cell coverage and the roads to get to the park. read more

I was supposed to stay here for one night, but circumstances required that I stay for four. This campground as well as the owner/ manager Linda are EXCELLENT! The grounds as well as all of the facilities here are very well maintained. If you come here to camp with children I guarantee that you will be more than pleasantly surprised by the variety of things for they and the adults to do. I will not address any of the negative things I've read as I have not experienced anything negative about this campground. I have been on the road for more than three months and have stayed at 37 campgrounds. This KOA ranks at the top of my list for an enjoyable stay. My husband and I stay at KOA's all the time. we take our grand children for a birthday weekend instead of buying presents, this KOA is OK had a good pool, playground was nice, and there was jump pads, not a big jumping pad as advertised in pics. The Put Put course needs a lot of help, rotting boards, cutting turf all tore up you could hurt yourself if you don't realize where the boards are rotten. All in all, it was a good camping experience. Now, for Customer Service and the way, the staff is is another story. They are not helpful, willing to look things up for you, and all in all just plain rude at times. I was asking why the pool is not open they let me know, I started to go into the store, and the gentleman said, are you gonna ask them to very sarcastic, I said no, that I was getting Hershey bars for s'more's. He lost his attitude there. this is the second time we've stayed there and as I said the accommodations are OK, but we will never go there again because of the staff and their representation of not being great. read more

Beautiful place and well maintained! Lots for kids to do and in early evening, the deer come wandering out. It's only a few minutes off the highway (well marked with KOA direction signs)..... and no typical road noise! Our space was level (gravel) and easy to keep a toad attached to Class A Motorcoach. We drove to Springfield to see the historical sights, easy 9 mile drive. Local grocery is Country Market or Walmart Superstore, both about 10 minutes away. We hope our travels take us this way, as we will stop in again! read more

We are KOA campers and usually love them! This one, not so much! This is our 3rd visit and definitely our last. The sites are very small, muddy and not much grass. The lady at the front desk was snippy with my husband for asking her a question?!? The final straw for me was terrible internet. I know we are camping but for the price, it should be easily accessible. We will continue to camp at KOAs but we finally learned our lesson on this one. read more

This campground was clean and well maintained. Although the bathrooms, laundry facility, and rec room were a bit antiquated they were still very clean. Laundry room was open 24 hours. It was $2 for a washer and $2 for dryer. There was a nice playground which included a jumping pillow (but you had to pay extra). The miniature golf course had no weeds and it was clean when we stayed here. Pool was clean as well. We did not have any trouble with a staff member on a golf cart. The staff we spoke to wouldn't win the hospitality of the year award but wasn't rude either. I would say kind of short. Some of the tent spots looked very cool because they were tucked under a forest canopy and off to the side by themselves. Also another big plus is that this KOA is away from the city so it was quiet at night. I would stay here again. read more

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend so it was super busy. Almost every site was full with some coming and going. So to start off, the sites are rather close together, some more than others. We had site 44 and actually really liked it. It was a tight squeeze with the neighbors but we didn't have any problems. It's a super shaded site with the exception of the evening sun, but that doesn't last long because it's a mostly covered site. It rained a lot the first evening we were there and a lot of low spots flooded within our site and around the campground. It dried up fairly quickly though and it wasn't a problem the rest of the weekend. There is a review on here about the sites being backward and the hookups are on the wrong sides. There are a couple sites like that in the middle. They looked as though they could be meant for buddy sites (where you can face each other). However they were spaced further apart than most sites so it appeared to us that it wouldn't be a problem if you had one of those sites. We also were tent campers for years so open areas and seeing your neighbors isn't new or unusual to us. The shower/restroom house was always clean. The floors tend to stay wet so be aware of that, but even though there's a designated cleaning time I saw people in there throughout the day cleaning up. The shower heads were kind of rough. Maybe they have hard water build up because the water comes out of two of them really strong and stings your skin. At least in the women's because my husband didn't feel it was like that in the men's. Does't go well with skin that has gotten a little too much sun. There was always plenty of hot water and you can't beat that!! The pool area was clean and though it had it's moments, it never got TOO crowded. We didn't actually play the mini golf but it was well kept and looked like fun. The jump pad was new and the kids had fun on it. They had basketballs to borrow and a pool table inside. They had special events for the kids that included a scavenger hunt, ice cream social, and kites the kids could have. One of the biggest points to make about this place is that the kid's activities are included within the camping cost. It's not as big as some other KOA's but you don't have to pay extra for the bikes, jump pad, or the mini golf. The kids get wrist bands when you check in and that's all they need to do any of the activities. It really worked out well. Everyone working there was helpful, and out and about everyday doing routine things and would speak to you as they passed. It felt very family oriented and like you just knew everyone. read more

We stayed here for 1 night, they were very nice and helpful but the park is a bit old. The pool was nice, the playground with the jumping pillow was fun. The miniature golf course was rough, lots of weeds and needed to be maintained. The spots were big, it didn't feel too tight. LOTS of bugs, bring bug spray. read more

Our family camps regularly and comes to expect a certain level of hospitality to be upheld by a KOA. With that being said, the grounds were well maintained and bathrooms were more than acceptable. The main issues we had were with the customer service. The manager was rude to us and many other guests, and the support staff was generally inhospitable. We are unlikely to return to this facility. read more

Looks like it's been a couple of years since this place was last reviewed, so keep that in mind. I visited June 2016 for a tent camping spot with electricity. The description of the tent camping electric spots needs to be clearer- no A/C on electric sites would lead most people to refuse a reservation, since most people would associate "no A/C" to mean "no household current" rather than "No air conditioning units." I think that's my only real criticism. Other than the bad description, the hosts bent over backwards to make my stay comfortable. I was camped near the pool, and their filter was malfunctioning a bit. Not only did they figure out how to take care of the high-pitched whine it emitted, but just in case, they showed me how to get the filter to stop making the noise. I didn't need to know, though, since the second it started making trouble someone was out there apologizing. The grounds are SURROUNDED by lovely, dense woods to explore. Since I am used to some type of desert, it was a real treat to be able to walk along the mowed path - and then leave it to experience what real vegetation is like. Lots of wildlife everywhere. If you love insects and spiders, and you should, bring your cameras and your macro lenses. I visited a nearby zoo while I was there (don't go to that zoo, it's depressing) and it didn't have half the wildlife and excitement that this KOA did. I would say that the clubhouse could be made more welcoming to guests, but there's nothing really wrong with it - and I like a place that is set up to encourage you to get outside. Their wifi also does not put up with streaming video (fine for everything else) so put down the iPad and enjoy! read more

We camped in a fifth wheel. The camp sites are built back wards. Can't reach both electric and sewer. Since the temps were in the 90's, electric was a must to run our air conditioner. Road in was very narrow and rutted. The road in the campground was narrow and challenging to navigate. We were given the "least favorite site" and told it had power boxes in the front yard. Because of those boxes, there was additional difficulty placing our trailer so the slide outs missed the hookups in back, and miss the power boxes in front. Then there was a big dirt trench running the length of the front yard that would have been useable for us. All in all, this was a very poor area and should not be used as a site. We also noticed that our neighbor was unable to get his sewer to reach to hook up. So, while full hook ups are available, the campsites are arranged so that campers cannot take full advantage of the hookups. They outright state they do not spray for any bugs. It is called "country camping and one should expect flies, mosquitos, spiders, rodents, wood roaches, snakes, owls, etc.." Flies and mosquitos made being outdoors miserable! The club house was old and tired. The staff was short and somewhat cranky. Will not come back here again. Would not recommend it to anyone. read more

The place was clean and grounds well-kept though the main building smelled of a lot of mold and the mini-golf course was full of weeds. We only wish that the staff could have been more kind. The operator, Stan, seemed to get frustrated with everyone and was rude though he seemed to feel he was being funny. We came to relax and he had us and other campers uptight as he roamed the camp in his golf cart supervising everyone and calling out anything that he didn't think was optimal; exact position of a camper, placement of picnic tables, posted signs that were unreadable. He would need to dial down his approach if we were to consider returning. read more
