The office was chaotic to say the least. They don't focus on one customer at a time. The whole time during our booking (and I had a reservation to speed up the process) he talked on the phone. The selection of vehicles was not that great, he completed no walk through just handed me the keys and walked away. ONE OF THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCES -- HERTZ WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY! I made a reservation with Hertz to pick up a rental car at 2:00 p.m. I specifically wanted a hybrid, and when I arrived, the employee told me the hybrid was not available. Then she told me they had no cars available at all! Why does Hertz allow customers to make reservations if it cannot provide a vehicle? Why wasn't I notified in advance? A simple phone call or notification could have saved me a tremendous amount of frustration and money. I spent more than $40 on Lyft just to get to this location, only to be told that there was no car available. Even worse, because of this situation, I missed a facial appointment for a laser treatment that cost me over $400. My entire schedule was disrupted because Hertz failed to provide the car I had reserved and failed to notify me beforehand. To make matters worse, the employee asked me where I was coming from and why I had paid so much for Lyft. That was completely irrelevant to the problem. My personal circumstances are none of her business. I came there to pick up a rental car, not to explain my personal life. The appropriate response would have been to apologize and take responsibility for the inconvenience caused. This is absolutely unacceptable. Customers make reservations so they can plan their schedules and rely on the company to provide the service they booked. If a vehicle is unavailable, Hertz should notify customers before they waste their time and money traveling to the location. This experience cost me money, disrupted my day, and caused me to miss an expensive appointment. Hertz showed a complete lack of consideration for my time as a customer. I expect Hertz to take responsibility for this situation, address the failure to honor my reservation, and reimburse me for the Lyft expense. I would not recommend this location based on my experience, and I will think twice before ever renting from Hertz again. Very disappointed with my experience at this Hertz location. After returning my rental, I was called and told I had to come back because there was "too much sand" inside the vehicle. I had already driven all the way home, so this meant making an unnecessary round trip. When I returned, the amount of debris was minimal. In fact, some of what they thought was sand was actually sugar crystals from Sour Patch candy. Instead of simply spending a few minutes vacuuming the vehicle as part of their normal turnaround process, they required me to come back and do it myself to avoid a cleaning fee. What was most frustrating was the manager's dismissive attitude. There was no attempt to work with me or acknowledge the inconvenience they caused. A quick vacuum by the staff would have resolved the issue in minutes. I understand charging customers for vehicles that are returned excessively dirty, but this was not one of those situations. They charged me for a cracked windshield when the representative walked around the vehicle and told me it had to crack windshield and that I was OK with that, I was, but I told him they need to park it down. Apparently it was marked down but never processed so I got charged $450. Never never never rent here. read more

My friend rented a car from these guys for our camping trip. We stopped by Saturday morning at 8:50 before they opened at 9:00. Come 9:15 and Hertz still wasn't open. No employees, no lights, no sign of life. We ended up leaving with no car rented since there was nobody at the store. What a disappointment! I go to pick up the car and was told, we have no full size cars. I was offered a compact car. I had to ask about the price, no money was offered back for only being offered less than I paid for. Because I asked I got a few bucks taken off. I wasn't offered a larger car which I wanted. Rented a full size car because that's what I needed. Then I was given the wrong car. The car hadn't been cleaned or filled with gas. This location is known to add on insurance without customer knowledge from general manager. I have witnessed her stating to quote them with insurance include. This is a violation of consumer rights. But Hertz at its best.. lie, deny, cheat and steal. Renters beware. You will be duped and over charged. Review: Do Not Trust Them I am extremely disappointed with the deceptive practices of Expedia and Hertz. I booked a "refundable" rental car, with the confirmation email clearly stating I could cancel by the 26th without penalty and that I did NOT pay, just inputted my card down to hold the booking. However, when a family medical emergency forced me to cancel within that window, both companies refused to honor their own written terms and kept my money. Expedia blames Hertz, and Hertz blames Expedia. Neither company is taking responsibility for the "free cancellation" they advertised to get my booking. It is incredibly frustrating to be penalized for a policy that was clearly stated at checkout but ignored when I actually needed to use it. The store rep told me I could go to the airport and exchange it for the car I want. I drove 25 miles to the airport only to be rudely told I can't exchange the car. I would give zero stars if I could. Reserved a midsize SUV from Thrifty (size was the main factor - absolutely necessary for my use). Showed up to pick it up and only saw a Hertz, circled trying to find it, called and finally figured out Hertz is also Thrifty and Dollar but doesn't have signage until inside. Waited in line for 20-30 minutes, listening to them explain to a customer that the reason they're no longer open Saturdays is because it's too much of a hassle for the employees to come in and be so busy with all of the online reservations that came in. Told the other customer that even if they drop after hours Friday, they now have to unexpectedly pay the whole weekend as well because they've decided to close Saturdays. This didn't sound like they care at all about their customers needs or experience. I was next, they processed me and went to the back to get my vehicle. I heard them talking in the back, saying they gave the SUV away, the trainee rep suggested another vehicle and the manager said, No - that's electric! (ie. upgrade). The woman came back and said they had no SUVs and I my car would be a midsize sedan. I said that a sedan would not work and they shrugged and said it was all they had, my SUV had been given to another customer who broke down and needed a replacement (another bad sign!). I kept saying I didn't know what to do because a sedan wouldn't work and they offered no solutions. I asked would the price at least be different? They quoted $3 less per day. I said I need you to speak with a manager and they came back and gave me around a $25 discount total. I had been dropped off and didn't know what to do, but ultimately said I just have to cancel this reservation then because a sedan will not work and I'm not taking a car I can't use. They said they couldn't cancel it for me because it was now past the reservation time, and that I needed to call a 1-800 customer service number. No offer to at least call for me, just handed me a brochure and moved on while I was stuck with my family's spring break trip potentially ruined. It was some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced, I left almost in tears and had to walk back to my office. Later I had to Uber several towns away to find a last-minute vehicle on the Friday before Spring Break week. I went to a major competitor that starts with an "E" and had some of the best customer service I've ever experienced, including an almost new car, incredibly friendly, fast and responsive reps, several comps just because, cold water refreshment offered, and my Uber covered after returning the vehicle. BE CAUTIOUS IF YOU'RE RENTING FROM THIS LOCATION!!! On July 10th, I made a reservation for a rental car and my appointment was at 5 PM. I showed up at 5:04 PM, and when I entered, I saw two customers in-store already, but the associate at the time told me they were closed. Her name was Crystal. I informed her that I had the reservation at 5 PM, and she told me to cancel my reservation. This was pretty upsetting. Not only did I spend over $100 for a roundtrip to and from this Hertz location, but it was a waste of my time and energy. Crystal was extremely inconsiderate and I was notified by her co-worker this is not the first time someone complained about her. I tried reaching out to management multiple times, but have no success. Please be cautious with this location. There are better shops where you will find appropriate customer service. read more

Yes, they did not have the EV I ordered online but they were able to give me Tesla Model 3 for not much more and that's actually what I'd prefer. I was there three times total and I was helped by Kaleb S. who actually helped me a lot - gave some advice on how to cover my rent with the insurance who was supposed to pay for it, checked available discounts for me. Every customer in this store was there trying to get resolution for being ripped off. I will be one of those soon too because I have to go back now that I see they overcharged my credit card. If you have to use this location, check and doublecheck all your paperwork and do NOT hand them your credit card until you know exactly what they're charging. If you reserve a small car and they say they don't have it, they will try to to charge you the rate for the larger car. Do NOT let them do this. Also, do NOT let them increase the 'vehicle license fee' for the larger car. They make it seem like this is a government fee but it's not -- it's set by them and if they don't have the size car that you reserved, they have no right to overcharge you. Insist that they charge you the original price quoted on your reservation, including the original vehicle license fee. What happens next: They will make a big show of going into a back room to "get approval." Then they will come out and say that they have to charge you the higher rate but they will also give you a credit. MAKE SURE THEY PROCESS THE CREDIT, they will try to distract you and get you to walk away without processing it. They are totally dishonest but if you stay on top of their tricks, it may be okay to use this location. read more

Not recommended for single star also. Hertz, you provided worst(life threatening) mini van. I rented 7 seater at Pleasanton CA on 12/22/2023(As per your website vehicle will be highlander or similar). But i got soranto which is not enough for luggages. So we decided to upgrade vehicle. Hertz Pleasanton CA asked us to go to Oakland CA airport and upgrade it. We upgraded Honda odyssey. But that mini van had so many problems. There was huge noise while running car and while applying brakes, vehicle was rattling. Back lights in cabin were not working and driving condition was bad. So i called support and they towed vehicle and asked me to get new vehicle in LoS Angeles Airport.We got struck at airport for replacement vehicle for more than 6 hours without water and your staff says not vehicle available. Family also got struck in hotel. No proper customer service support also. After that we got 5 seater only and we only searched vehicle in hertz parking lot and found another 6 seater. Hertz Ruined our entire vacation. Very worst service. Lot of money waste due to plan change and mental pressure. Also Pleasanton CA location, they didnt hear properly on our issue and your manager also not in office. Do Not RENT car in HERTZ. Update: I contacted hertz customer service many times. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Front desk employee was on the phone bragging about it being her last day. Was told they had plenty of vehicles, when I arrive it's EV only. They claimed their machine didn't read my card and asked me to re-swipe on a different computer. I was suspicious because the POS didn't even state what I was paying for. I Realized they overcharged my card by $100 before I even left the parking lot. Went back in immediately and they told me to call a "complaint line".. I recently rented a car at the Hertz Local edition in Pleasanton. I previously used the San Ramon location, but unfortunately it's closed. I know car rentals are in high demands these days, but the car I rented was definitely treated poorly. When I rented my car, the Hertz clean sticker wasn't on my car. The car was pretty clean but smelled like cigarette smoke. A former renter must've Carrie Underwood'd this car because there was a lot of key marks along the side of my black Chevy rental. The car also only had a half tank of gas so it was an extra stop for me to gas up the car. I prefer the airport locations. They have better customer service, clean cars, and better selection. read more

If I could leave a negative rating, I would... I have rented cars regularly for the past 10 years due to business travels. By far this was the worst experience which last 1 minute. I made the reservation well in advance. On the day of pick up, they call and advised they were aware of my reservation and to notify me they were closing soon. Because of flight delays, I made it close to closing but well before (15 minutes). The door was locked, a young oriental woman answered and said "unless your here to pick the Mustang up, we have no other vehicles." I asked what they were talking about, she proceeded to mention they had no inventory and unable to fulfill my reservation. Keep in mind, I was at the door way, she did not even look up the reservation on the computer. I then noticed a middle aged white male standing at a kiosk (probably a manger). I then advised they had called, with no mention of a discrepancy with reservation, and I asked why was I not informed. The young lady then said "the whole system is fucked up and all reservations had been fucked up everywhere." So, where do I begin with the actual review? Unprofessional, lazy, false information provided, lack of customer service... Nothing will occur disciplinary wise to any of those employee's I am sure. But if I could recommend take your business elsewhere so your not lied to in person, at minimum, please do. read more

The worst experience ever renting a car! We were given a very dirty Toyota Corolla. The windows were so bad it was difficult to see out the rear when backing up, definitely a safety hazard! The inside wasn't much better, it just seemed very well lived in. To add insult to injury, there was a dashboard warning light on. How comforting! That was challenge number one since you can't get ahold of the actual branch without some major maneuvering. I was told they had what I wanted so we went down there. I walked in, the only employee visible was on the phone and started waving her hand indicating for me to leave the store. I was confused and thought she may be thinking I was someone else, so I waited just inside the door. No other customers or employees we're around, this was the middle of the day. H8 Hertz, this location is off airport and we Uber's to pick up our rental car. Located off Hopyard in Pleasanton, and we were dropping it off at the Oakland airport. First, They couldn't find our reservations, luckily I had the reservation #. There were only two employees working, and only us and another customer, phones ring and they help them instead of finishing up our rental agreement - even though I'm a Hertz Gold...We get the car, it's dirty, scratched and only had 1/8 tank of gas...geez, just what I want to do is wash the car and fill it up with gas! Zero stars (but that's not an option, so here's one for nothing). While my husband's F150 is being serviced at a Ford dealership (NOT San Leandro), this rental car company only had a Ford Fiesta but promised to call back the next day with an upgrade. That was a week ago. We have a family of 5, with two kids in car seats. Even if we could fit both car seats in the itty bitty Fiesta and my 6'2" husband wanted to drive with the steering wheel under his chin, he can't -- The clips for the car seat on one side in the back are defective!! We called today and they not only don't have a bigger car to upgrade to but they don't even have another Fiesta that allows the safe transport of children. And they don't know when another car, any car, will be available. This Hertz just adds stress to an already rough time. read more

It took a WEEK for them to close out my rental. All the while, I was getting daily notices from Hertz National that my car was overdue, and they were trying to charge my card $93 every day. The next time, I went in with a reservation and was told that it doesn't guarantee a car, was told they had one, but needed cleaning...so wait. Then told it was damaged and couldn't be rented, so they tried the bait and switch to a more expensive car. Seems like a money grab to me. It's no wonder this location has only 1.5 star rating! Should have looked at the reviews before renting from this location. They are extremely slow even though we got there right when they opened. We use to go to the Livermore location but had no choice but to come get our rental from this location since Livermore closed. WE WERE CHARGED FOR 2 STOLEN HUBCAPS EVEN THOUGH WE PAID $100+ FOR LDW... as shown in the photo, and loss resulting in theft is covered up to $500. The hubcaps were $21 each. THEY STILL CHARGED US FOR IT. We will be calling corporate to report this incident as they did not honor their supplement insurance! I can't imagine if we were to get into an accident, they would probably make us pay out of pocket for the car even if we did purchase extra insurance. Will no longer be renting from hertz! I made a personal reservation using my husband's credit card I travel extensively for my working utilizing hertz quite a bit and have never had a problem. When I went to pick up the car they would not honor the card, as it was my husband. I took out my own credit card same name and they would not honor the reservation.
