This is the second time in a row renting from this location that I have had a problem. The first time I contacted location rep to ask if my vehicle was in and gave them time I would be there. Upon arrival the rep told me we gave your car away and we don't have anything for you. Asked why if I talked to you and told you what time I was coming in, the rep stated "Car is gone what you want me to do about it". Then just last week I rented again(525362740) from the location since it is closest to my house and encountered more issues. It started with bad customer service, was told to come back when 3 vehicles in my class was outside and available, upon coming back I received a dirty car(inside and out), car is physically damaged in many ways and on top of that an EMPTY gas tank. I was told this is what I have to deal with and I have to make a decision because they are closing. I returned the car and noticed I was charged for gas and other charges that weren't supposed to be there. The branch manager Krystal Fry really needs to look into her employees and invest more time in their customer service because this place is Horrible. I used their app to rent an electric vehicle. I'm on my way to pick up this vehicle. They call me. Them: "We don't have that vehicle" Me: "Okay, cancel my reservation" Them: "Okay" They didn't cancel, so I try doing it. I can't. I call them. Them: "We'll cancel it for you" Me: "Thanks" 2 days later: I get charged a late cancellation fee. Their support people online claim it doesn't exist. Absolutely horrible service. Went to go pickup my reservation and the agent behind the desk said it wasn't available and offered a substitute - no problem, I've had that issue with Hertz before in general. What really was awful though was the car they gave me was *terribly* dirty, like someone had spilled something on the seat (and other messes in the car), and then someone just smeared the spill around with a dirty mop and let it dry. The smell was overwhelming. I went back in and got a replacement, thinking the first was a fluke, but the second car was dirty too. I didn't have time to mess around with customer service, so I accepted the second one but had to take it to a car detail place down the street to get it cleaned (on my own expense). Customer service was impossible to get a hold of. I'll never rent from this location or Hertz again. read more

Worst rental experience of my life. Huge waste of time. Tried to rent a Tesla Model 3, upon pickup, battery was at 20%, washer fluid empty. After spending over an hour charging the battery found out that window was malfunctioning and car would not turn off! Checked forums and spent another hour trying to find a fix but could not even after trying 'hard power down'. I took the car back to swap it for another vehicle and since at that point I had spent half a day messing with a broken vehicle I asked for some kind of discount on the new rental. They offered me a $10 gift card on my NEXT rental, what a joke! I asked to see the manager and I was only told that 'she was busy'... THIS LOCATION NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. After going down the street to the Enterprise (great service) they informed me that they hear stories like mine on a daily basis. If Hertz corporate allows locations like this to stay open, they have serious problems. I will never rent from a Hertz again. read more

After reading some bad reviews, I still gave this company the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, I should've went with my gut. I called them early morning confirming vehicle will be ready by noon. She kind of giggled & said it should be. Called 1/2 prior & she said I was just about to call you. Unfortunately the vehicle you wanted is not available anymore as the other renters extended their rental. She offered the size down, but after looking at it, we knew it w/b too small for our trip. She said we usually have mostly SUV's & normally enough on hand, it's just been extra busy. So needless to say, trying to find another vehicle within a couple hours of needing one was impossible. We give this specific agency 0 stars(Plainfield,Illinois). We made and paid for a car rental 1 month ago. The reservation was for a Tesla and the duration of the rental was for 1 week. We were to pick up the car today, June29th at 6:00pm. We received a phone call from the agency's manager at 7:54 this morning informing us that they could not provide us with the Tesla because they had "overbooked" the car. They would gladly provide us with a different car. We specifically reserved and paid for an electric car to save money 4th of July weekend as we were scheduled to go out of town. How is a gas powered auto going to save us money? We were also informed that this agency only has ONE Tesla to rent out. How can you call a customer the day of pick up that you do not have the car they paid for? Hertz was quick to offer a different gas powered car and kept telling us they understood and that there was nothing they could do. Well they ruined our week's plans! read more

Skip this location! Each time I've rented from this location, it takes OVER an HOUR - Yes, MORE THAN ONE HOUR to get checked-in and keys in hand. No consideration for customers time and schedules. It's so frustrating. One counter rep makes no good business sense. Only one person to check you in at counter, same person goes to clean the car, which was still dirty. Car is not ready for prepaid reservation!?! Saw customers finally leave due to long wait. I had no choice but to deal with the Unbelievably slow process since I have to be in another state for an event. Bet it's horrible being that one worker. These guys are great! I rent cars all the time and by far these guys are the best. Car is always ready on time. They are friendly and always get you out as fast as posssible. The few times I have had an issue with a car they have always been very responsive. They always offer me an upgrade when one is available. I would recommend this location to anyone. read more

I arrived at the Plainfield location after traveling for many hours. I presented my European pre-paid conformation #, ID & payment card - but was denied the rental. I was told that I had to have a paper verification / voucher - of which, I wasn't informed of. I asked if I could have it emailed directly to them; He said "NO." I asked if I could use their computer and printer to find, retrieve & print it; He said "No, I can't let you do that." I then informed him that I AM a Christian recording artist that had a performance tonight, wedding tomorrow & 3 services on Sunday; is there any other way; He said "No." I then asked why wasn't I informed of needing to present "paper" verification and why are you demanding this now? He said "we've had problems with these pre-paid vouchers downtown and we must have it now in order to give you the car. I then simply stated "You're not willing to work with me much at all huh? He said "come back tomorrow with that paper because I'm not giving you a car. We are closed now and I'm gonna ask you to leave... So, even though I pre-paid, presented conformation #, ID and payment card, was from out of State, he still refused to give me what I had already paid for - and had all the fore-informed items needed to pick up my rental. Horrible customer service. The manager, Jason is arrogant (as stated in previous reviews) and argumentative with customers. Beware of Sunday returns and their "convenient" lock-box. I actually chose this location because it was one of the few suburban locations allowing for a Sunday return. I even clarified the process at pick-up with the employee. In the end, I was charged for an additional day for turning in a vehicle 1.5 hours late on a day in which the location was...closed. While I could have lied on the return jacket, I did not think it was necessary and that is not how I operate. I have never had a car rental company charge me down to the minute, even less so at a location with a drop box. I live in the area and would have potentially used this location again...but not after this experience. Short sighted manager. read more

Neither my boyfriend or I smoke and we never have. It is a month later and we still have not received the money back in our bank account. This Plainfield Hertz location rocks! No waiting for service when I arrived. Car was ready when I arrived. Staff very friendly. Professional service by taking photos, which I appreciate for my (and their) protection. Staff goes out of the way to show you how to operate the vehicle. This was opposite of my experience at Naperville location (Ogden and Aurora) from 3 visits there. Never going to another Hertz location again, only this one in Plainfield now. read more

Our under 25 sons needed an SUV to rent for a weekend academic trip with three friends. We found Hertz online offering a Toyota 4 Runner for a reasonable price. When the boys picked up, they came back with a tiny SUV. We went back to Hertz to exchange for the 4 Runner or similar. The branch manager, Jason Skores, was incredibly arrogant and rude. He adamantly insisted that the tiny SUV was the same size as a 4 Runner even though a quick Google search proved at least a 10 cubic foot difference. We returned the rental on principal of bad customer service. Jason's only apology was 'I'm sorry you feel that way', regarding the undisputed fact. We cancelled the rental and today see a charge from Hertz for $593. There are plenty of car rental options out there. Consider rewarding another company with your business instead of a rude and dishonest business. read more

AAA reserved a SUV rental for me at this location. I heard a lot of road noise and was told by a professional the rear tires were bald and not safe to drive on! I called Hertz, the first person I spoke to really didn't care and I asked to speak to the manager, Jason. He said they will have the tires checked out. If your rent from here make sure you check the tires! This makes me wonder how well they maintain the rest of the SUV/cars! BE AWARE FOR YOUR SAFETY WHEN RENTING HERE! If I could give this place a 0 I would. Needed a rental as my truck was in the body shop. Received a rental with a check engine light on and a flat tire. After 2 weeks went to return the rental to find that they had moved locations without notifying me. Was told that they moved down the street. Went to look for it & after unsuccessfully finding the new location called them. Line was off the hook for 15 minutes so I couldn't get through. After I finally got through was told that they are only in Joliet now. Woman on the phone was incredibly rude even after I told that I needed to pick up my truck from a body shop an hour away and needed to resolve this issue immediately. She simply said to leave the keys at the old location & gave me no further information regarding my deposit or bill. Never again will use a vehicle from hertz. I made a reservation for 12/22 @ 4pm. I arrived at to pick up the car early. I got there at 2:10pm. When I arrived the office was closed as I was told that they went to pick up another car. I was told they would be back within approx. 15min. as they had already been gone approx. 15 min. I waited, 30 mins. went by. I called the office number, even though I was sitting in the lobby. The Naperville office answered and said they should be back within 10 min. another 15 min. went by. I called again, Naperville tried to contact the rep. but, said she was not answering her cell phone. Approx. 45 mins. later Ashley and another young lady arrived. It was approx. 2:56 pm. I told Ashley I had been waiting almost an hour to be able to be helped. I explained I was there to pick up my car. Ashley told me my reservation was for 4pm. I agreed but, told her I did not think I could make it by 4. She then stated she did not have a full size (my reservation) car available. She had a car coming in at 4. I went on to ask what type of car? Was it coming it at 4pm? to both questions she stated she did not know but, knew it would be there at 4pm. I was not happy at all. I left. I then came back at 4pm. Ashley stated that she still had the same Corolla but had "re-routed" my reserved car because she "thought" I was not coming back. The conversation did not go well because I had never cancelled my reservation. I never stated I would not be back. Ashley said she "thought" that but, agreed I had not told her that. I told her I was leaving out of town and needed the full size car. I asked if another location had a car up to and including the airport. She said No. My only option with her was to take the smaller car. I asked to speak with her manager (Adam). She stated she tried to call him but, she could not reach him. I left pissed, with no car. I then went to my car, called the 800 number but, they said they had no way of reaching a manager. They then kept transferring back to the Plainfield location. There was absolutely no resolution. Ashley was the worse. I have worked with Adam and/or Malcolm in the past and was very satisfied. I rent cars often. My dealing with Ashley completed turned me off from Hertz. Her customer service was the worse I have ever experienced. Depending on Hertz for my holiday trip left me stranded with no resolution on their part. Never again. I was able to get at full size car from Enterprise at the 12th hour and make my trip. My advice is to NEVER depend on Hertz/Ashley in Plainfield. You will be greatly disappointed!!!! read more
