As a student at the University of Florida, I was very excited when the new Hertz location opened less than a block from campus. I needed to rent a car for the weekend in order to attend a grad school interview in Ft. Lauderdale, so I decided to give Hertz a try. This location failed in their management of both logistics and customer service.
I had reserved my car well in advance of the interview, but when I arrived at the Hertz location, nobody was in the office. I called several times and nobody answered, so I decided to call another branch located a few miles away. The woman at the other branch told me that she would send someone over to assist me (amidst an array of excuses and without an apology), so I waited almost an hour for someone to arrive (even though it's only 15 minutes away). There was nothing posted online or in the store about a closure, and the sales person who arrived told me he didn't know why nobody was there or who was supposed to be working. Once again, there was no apology, and I finally got the keys to a car (after a long sales pitch and this associate's life story) to get where I needed to go.
I understand that miscommunications happen and there will be occasional mistakes. It didn't help that when I returned the car Monday morning, I once again had to wait about 30 minutes for an associate to arrive after calling the Main Street branch. When this person did arrive, they realized that the price I had agreed to did not take into account an additional driver charge, and I was charged $40 more than the original price I had signed in agreement to pay. It was a frustrating miscommunication that stemmed from their inability to do a correct and thorough job the first time.
I have had similar experiences with disorganization at the Main Street Hertz, but nothing was quite this embarrassing for the company, stressful for me, and unapologetically inconveniencing. Please do yourself a favor and utilize one of the other plethora of rental companies - you won't regret it! read more
