    If I could give a negative 5 stars I would! Please repost & I sincerely ask others to repost as much as possible. In today's society NO ONE should support a company who will treat special needs people & handicapped people in this manner. WARNING to anyone using Hertz rental. Our reservation was for picking up a car at 11pm. Our flight was delayed 15 min & Hertz was notified of the delay by Edinburgh airport employees helping us & pushing my wheel chair. We get to only be informed by not only the other rental company place agents AND actual airport employees (proving it was not slander on the other rental companies) that Hertz had closed & left BEFORE 11pm which was Our pickup time. Numerous calls led to hang ups, no answer or automated answers which hung up before you got very far. They left a handicapped woman, an Autistic teen & my husband & son stranded in a foreign country airport over an hour until other people helped. However at past midnight there were very little transport options. When we finally got a hold of a person at Hertz, they tried to INCREASE the cost of the rental EVEN at a corporate account pre-set rate even though we would have the car 1 day less. This is how HERTZ car rentals treats their corporate customers & handicapped customers. On top of it all we called Hertz & asked to speak to a manager & never received a call back even after VERY clearly letting the Hertz people know the full details & still not a word except to increase the price on us. Please don't help this company continue this atrocious behavior!! Companies like this need to be canceled!!

    I have been standing in a long line that isn't moving at Hertz for the past 30 minutes, none of the other rental companies have a line. This is ridiculous.

    Avoid Hertz at EDI airport! We rented a Tesla model 3 and was charged for a scratch that was not caused by us even though WE SENT PICTURES OF THE SCRATCH ON THE PICKUP DAY! When we picked up the car, there were already many scratches and we had to spend lots of time to take pictures. We even walked back to let the front desk know. The front desk told us that it would be fine as long as we sent pictures to their email Edinburghairport@hertz.com. Since there were many scratches, it also wasted our time to organize and send all pictures out. After we returned the car, we received an email that they immediately put a GBP 399.50 damage on our credit card without any communication with us before making the charge, and they attached a picture showing a small scratch, which was one of the scratches that we have taken pictures on pickup day and sent to them. We immediately emailed them but no one contacting me except auto replies. I was furious because 1, they didn't take a look at my reports; 2 they didn't communicate with me but just placed that charge on my card. We were lucky to at least have a proof because we arrived at a sunny bright day and had time to examine the car so we had pictures of all scratches. If we arrived in dark time and was in a hurry, we would have no proof. I am now waiting for their replies. If they don't drop the charge, I have to go through lengthy legal process to deal with this. We used rental companies in many different places and this one was the worst. Special warning to fellow Americans: Hertz EDI doesn't operate the same way as other Hertz in the US. We trusted this brand, which is a mistake. Hertz EDI presumes all scratches and damages were made by you.

I had to return THREE vehicles, horrible customer service you can't get a hold of, and like lots of other customers was completely scammed when given a defective car that immediately blew two tyres and was then charged nearly 800GBP for the two tyres. they claimed there was also a scratch but couldn't provide a picture. the lines to pick up were 1.5-2hrs each time. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE management choose any other company in edi.

    I had a similar poor experience to two of the most recent posts with regard to alleged tire damage. I drove the vehicle throughout the rental period and I'm 100% certain I did not hit any curbs, pot holes etc. We picked up the vehicle at 6pm on a November night which was dark and cold. Given the slight nick on the wall of the tire that was there upon return, we'd never have seen it on the damage walk around inspection. I was slightly suspicious by how quickly the return agent found the alleged damage. He stated that the fully comprehensive insurance policy would cover the damage. I didn't take out damage insurance with Hertz. So I'm out $200 on a my word vs theirs. The whole incident didn't feel 'right'. I've been driving for nearly 50 yrs and never damaged a tire! One to keep an eye on if you intend to hire from Hertz Edinburgh Airport. My rule of thumb is if 3 people take the time to voice their concerns in writing there's 10 times that amount out there. Be observant.

    Hey, YOU. The one reading this review, considering renting from Hurtz at the Edinburgh Airport. Did you just come off a 13 hour flight and think you'd be able to pick up your car and be on the road within, say, 30-40 mins of getting your bags? NOPE. See the photo above. Do you want your initial experience of Scotland to be waiting for at least 2hours for a car from Hertz? Then by all means this is the place for you! Miserable experience, and they'll make sure to scare the crap out of you to get the insurance. Stay away.

I drove to my hotel and back without incident, so I knew I didn't do it. After a fair amount of arguing I said OK, I paid for the insurance. At that point they informed me I only purchased the basic coverage and not the full coverage and they needed to charge me my $2000 deductible. What a scam these guys are, I have never seen a rental car company act this way. Luckly I also purchased the insurance coverage from Expedia and hopefully they will go after these crooks! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS!!!!!

There, something beyond belief happened. Sixt's employees rejected my VALID EU driving license because it did not have english letters, according to the "company's policy". As a result of this I had to go to EVERY SINGLE company in the rental center, in order to find an available car in the FULL SEASON of August. After THREE hours I finally rented a car from Europcar. My first day of my honeymoon was ruined because of Sixt, as I arrived to Glasgow, where I had booked a hotel, at 23:00! When I asked the employees in what policy they were reffering to, showing to them the official policy from the official site of Sixt, they pointed to me the paragraph for the non EU licenses. When Greece became a non EU country??? Their policy said clearly: "Valid driving licences of all other EU countries are accepted in the UK without further preconditions". Every other company accepted my VALID EU driving license, with my VALID EU ID for translation. They just did not have any available car, except of Europcar, because of the full season. That's why I had made a reservation in Sixt and I paid for this, 8 months ago, in order to guarantee a car. Also, the employees told me that I would receive a mail for a refund and that on Tuesday (13/08/2019) the manager would call me. I did not receive any mail or phone call. They led me to such a hassle and they didn't even contact me!! That is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Stay away in order to avoid a similar hassle!! I paid the double amount of money and I did not received any refund!

We did add in insurance directly from Europcar just in case since we were in another country. The one provided through Expedia was not going to cover a lot of things even though we paid for it already. The coverage was more than the vehicle itself and they charge $100 for fuel and will refund once you bring the car back with a full tank. Very fun and interesting driving on the right side of the vehicle and on the opposite side of the road. Roundabouts are no joke in the UK lol. The car we was given was a hybrid and it was comfortable. The staff was very friendly here. I would rent again if needed. Returning was also painless. My main complaint was just the price of full coverage for the vehicle for two weeks was insane but peace of mind.

On top of that, I had to pay an additional €104 for the new car reservation. When I arrived at the desk, they told me the car I had originally booked wasn't available. They offered me an upgrade for just £20. I refused, and they gave me an old car with a strong, unpleasant smell. I went back to the desk and only then was I finally given the car I had initially reserved. This company is a complete scam and has zero respect for its customers. I will never use Europcar again.

On August 11, 2025, we rented a brand new Volvo xc40 from Sixt Manchester Piccadilly. We were strong-armed into buying Sixt's most expensive insurance offering, by Ken Kelly, a sales associate. He assured us that with this insurance, if we had any issues whatsoever, we'd be back on the road within a couple of hours. Because we were heading to the Lake District, with its tricky roads, we were convinced to buy it. We were fooled. On August 18, we had a flat tire. Although the car did have a spare, it was decided that the best thing would be to replace the tire, since a new tire was required. After 4 hours, Sixt Recovery arrived. It was soon discovered that the locknut key provided with the car did not fit ANY of the 4 tires on the car (so the spare was useless). Sixt Recovery's recommendation was to tow the car to the local Volvo dealership - so they left, and again we were abandoned on the side of the road. We spoke to Volvo, and were told that they could help us. After repeated calls to Sixt Recovery and to Mr Kelly, we were going in circles. No one seemed to have any authority to make a decision. The only option we were offered by Sixt was an 8 or more hour roundtrip journey to Manchester to replace the car. This would have had us arriving back at our cottage quite late at night, which we were uncomfortable with. We pleaded for a car to be delivered to us, but Sixt flatly refused. In the end, it was Volvo Roadside Assistance, NOT Sixt, that rescued us. But, the negotiations with Sixt took so long that we could not get to the dealership by closing. A kind man gave us a ride back to our cottage (again no help from Sixt). By the time we arrived, this had been going for over 9 hours. (Calling their Roadside Assistance is like a trip to purgatory, transfer after transfer, each time re-explaining your situation.) The next morning we walked back to the car, where we met the tow truck (arranged by Volvo). He drove us 1 hour to the Volvo dealership in Kendal. Eventually, it was discovered that the car did not even have authentic Volvo locknuts. According to Volvo, who enlisted a local expert with an assortment of locknut keys, the only way to fix that car was to drill out the locknuts on all four tires and replace them. Now we were completely stranded. And again no one at Sixt would help us. We were told that it was Volvo's problem. Again we asked Sixt to deliver a replacement vehicle to us. Again, they flatly refused. At this point - 29 hours later - it was clear that no help was coming. So, we were forced to terminate our rental contract and rent a car from Enterprise in Kendal, at a VERY expensive last minute price. We finally arrived back at our cottage 31 hours after the ordeal began. Losing 2 full days of our vacation. We were lucky that we had that flat tire in the morning and could drive the car to a safe place (the roads are largely single track) with cell service and kind local people who assisted us. Otherwise, it could have been quite precarious. Note that we purchased the absolute best Sixt insurance we could buy, and were repeatedly assured that we would get immediate help and be put back on the road as quickly as possible when we purchased it. Total BS. After all of this, Ken Kelly, called us to apologize and told us that Sixt would NOT be charging us at all for our rental. And that Sixt would reimburse us in full for the Enterprise replacement car. Again total BS. After the dust settled, and several letters to the black hole of Sixt Customer Service, we were eventually reimbursed for only 4 days of rental - the 2 days without the car, and the 2 days remaining on the contract. They refused to compensate us for the expensive rental with Enterprise. And for our two days of lost vacation. Sadly, the verbal commitments were total lies. DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT. They will NOT be there for you when you need them.

I am a safe driver and did NO damage to the car, but was charged over 1,000 pounds for two tiny 10cm scratches after check-in. Outrageous! This company has simply found a way to supplement their revenues and profits from charging for damages that drivers did not incur. I give them a big fat 0 on a 10 scale. Avoid at all costs!

Luckily I had a picture of the scuff mark on the bumper - from when I picked up the car - but they charged me 240 pounds because I didn't have a picture of the tire with the curb rash. For interest this was the charge on my contract: Damage 163.91 Processing Fee for Damages 39.60 On the ground Vehicle Idle Time 76.30 They take advantage of customers as customers are in a hurry either arriving or departing and they can get away with it. In my case they specifically asked when I was leaving, as I didn't seem to be in a hurry (luckily I took the car to the airport the day before we were leaving). To say the least it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when the country is so beautiful and the people so nice! I won't be going back ...

I did look at the car when I picked it up and it looked fine but I admit I didnt look at the tires. I never look at the tires. I've asked at least 50 people if they ever look at the tires when renting and they all said no. This is the perfect set up for a scam. They know people don't look at the tires, people are more concerned with the body of the car, dents, scratches and scraps. I looked at the tire and it had a nick but what I saw that was interesting is that the nick was on a tire that was almost bald and the other three tires were new like. My gut told me this is a scam. Pretty sure it was already there or James sliced it when I wasn't looking. Easy way for the place to get free tires. Claim damage on a car rented by someone from another country so they have a hard time disputing the damage claim. When I did call and file a complaint it took over 3 months to tell me basically to pound sand. They aren't doing squat about it. STAY AWAY from Avis. Look at that tire.... It needs to be replaced because it is WORN OUT. No tread left. Scam scam scam
