I received FIVE-STAR service ! I am not sure of some bad reviews. Preston and Miked help me with my Geico rental. They could not pick me up at home, so they called a Lyft driver to fetch me from my house. Preston processed me in an efficient manner. Very professional. This is a BUSY place, so don't come in expecting to waited on immediately. Especially if it's 5 PM. They had several cars and SUV's to choose from. Gecio had changed my allotted time, (which i didn't know) and Preston called me to let me know, or otherwise I would have had to pay out of pocket expenses. Absolutely horrible experience that continues as of today: 1. Made reservation on 6/26/26 to pick up a Rogue or equivalent at RDU. Later found out that without my authorization, the third party vendor they use for reservations charged my credit card $237 that day for a prepaid reservation. 2. At Hertz facility at RDU, I was advised they had no Rogues or equivalent so I agreed to take a smaller Kia SUV at a much lower daily rate. 3. After returning car a half day early, the next day I saw Hertz charged me $95 which was in line with the agreed upon reduced daily rate. 4. This is where this turns into fantasy land. I examined my credit card statement to find out Hertz not only charged me the agreed upon $95 but also the $237 from the third party intermediary. When I contacted customer service to dispute the $237 charge I was told the $237 was prepaid so I had to pay it, the $95 I paid was for liability insurance on the car I rented (I NEVER take out auto rental insurance) but as a courtesy they would return the $95 since I had already paid $237. 5. As if this writing, after writing to the President of Hertz, they claim they have no record of my renting the smaller SUV at a reduced daily rate and I'm responsible for the $237 payment even though my reservation was for a larger SUV but as an accommodation, they returned the $95 payment I made. 6. Who would have ever thought that a company like Hertz could either be totally unethical or just completely incompetent. read more

My review has nothing to do with this location and everything to do with Hertz corporate. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ Within 2 hours of picking up the car, the oil light came on with the warning that the oil needed to be changed. Being a responsible human and not wanting to damage a rental car, I called Roadside Assistance (from a highway rest stop) for what would be the first of four times, and spoke with the first of five agents. While helpful, none of the instructions provided were accurate. I was instructed to take the car to a specific Take Five location, provide my name, and a voucher number. The Take Five location *the Hertz agent directed me to* knew nothing of this arrangement. They proceeded to seek authorization from Hertz, which took 30 minutes, only for Hertz to decline the oil change request. I had to call back twice, be put on hold twice, and have the call "drop" twice -- after being yelled at by a Hertz mechanic -- the fifth agent to speak with me and the first to tell me that the car had the oil changed *three days prior,* blaming another Take Five location. Okay, fine, but how is this my fault?? I explained to him that I had rented the car that morning and was told BY HERTZ to take the car for an oil change, and he still yelled at me for asking him what I was supposed to do with the car now. For the record, Take Five figured out the oil was too full, extracted some, made sure the error message/oil light was no longer alerting, and sent me on my way. All of this ruined my first day of vacation, including being late to pick up family from the airport, and took over 4 hours to take care of. I then requested a *partial* (one-day) refund and was told I could not get a refund **because I had prepaid.** So, basically Hertz will screw renters at every turn, even when it is their fault. read more

I had booked a reservation for a vehicle and it said there were cars available, but when I got to the Hertz dealer they had told me that there were no cars available until 2pm, which was 4 hours after my scheduled pick-up time. They had also told me there was a queue of 14 people ahead of me to get a car that day as well. Unprofessional!! RUDE!! Smart ass employees!! I cannot explain how nonchalant & unprofessional the employees at this location were during my visit. I went in around 5p on 4/21/2021. First, I called to ensure they had rental cars ON HAND and was told yes. I get there and there are two male employees at the desk. I walk in and I don't hear either employee say hello, welcome, how can I help you, ANYTHING! So I'm standing back looking at them, looking at me. I ask, should I walk up & who's available. Once gentleman says, with an attitude... "I said, how can I help you". *clutch pearls in awe* So I approach his window/area and he's sitting down with his cell phone in hand. He doesn't stand and looks visually annoyed that me, the customer, is bothering him, the employee, at work. I let him know my car situation, he stared at me blankly, and was zero help. I stepped away, still in ear distance, to talk to my insurance carrier, and I hear "see, this that mess I'm talking about" so I turn around and look at him. At this point, I'm like "nah, I must be hearing things" and carry on with my call. However, I'm almost certain that's what was said. When I turned to look, the rude employee is staring at me and the other is sitting looking like embarrassed like "oh gosh" she's about to snap and say something and bows his head in shame but with a smirk. My insurance carrier was calling the store location and said the line was not ringing. I mentioned to the rude employee she was trying to get through and MYSTERIOUSLY the line started to ring. I'm pretty sure he had the phone on where no calls could could in. The Hertz reservation line was not answering for my insurance carrier to confirm a reservation number. She was calling the location to let them know the case number to bill and to get me in a car that afternoon. The employee was rude and short with the insurance carrier. He told her "I don't do reservations so I can't help you" and basically ended the conversation. Then, he says, I'm not even sure we have any cars available! Long story, not so short, I didn't get the reservation confirmed. I didn't get a car. But I did get annoyed. I asked the employee his name but I've forgotten it. Did some rate searching, ended up with hertz because I was a member and had good rates. Adding drivers was 13$ a day and insurance was 30$+. These are typical costs, but what was the worst was the customer service and the condition of the car. At our scheduled pickup time, we walked in happily, looking forward to our vacation, to encounter a very defensive counter rep who 'greeted' us with something like 'What do you want?" We had used bank-banked Visa debit card at this same location at least four times before, going back at least five years of renting from Hertz. But this Hertz employee refused to accept that, saying three different times it was 'company policy' to require a CREDIT card -- even though Hertz already had accepted our payment for this rental. This review is for Hertz corporate, not the Durham, NC Hertz that just appeared on my screen. I'm curious how you would feel if you discovered that the rental car you'd been driving for 9 days on tortuous Colorado mountain roads had THREADBARE FRONT TIRES??? And when you contact their "Emergency Roadside Assistance", you are on hold for 80+ minutes and then are told nothing can be done about it for 2 days because it is a weekend?? So you have to interrupt vacation plans and drive hours out of your way to a repair shop to remedy a maintenance problem that should have provided by the rental car company?? I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with Hertz! I contacted their Customer Service department 8 days ago, unhappy that they rented us a car that was DANGEROUS to drive. I told them I have photos of bald tires and a letter from a tire mechanic stating tires needed replacement. He asked me to email that documentation to Customer Relations and offered me 1500 Hertz reward points (2 day rental) for our "inconvenience". Inconvenience? I do not consider safety matters an "inconvenience ", do you? I requested a complete refund and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told they would call me back, hopefully within a couple hours or at least the next day. I waited... and waited... and waited for a call or email. I called again after 3 days and was told it could take 7-10 days instead. There must be a lot of unhappy customers if they are that backlogged. I shared my story on 3 different days in the COMMENTS on the Hertz Facebook page (their settings will not allow anyone to initiate a post except Hertz so the comment section is FILLED with dissatisfied customers like me). EACH TIME, immediately a Hertz employee (Caitlyn, then Garrett, then Tristan) asked for me to PM my rental record #, case #, and the last time phone #. I was so hopeful....and each time they never even acknowledged receiving the information they asked for, much less offer me any assistance. Got a call 2 days ago, eight days after I filed the original complaint. Same unacceptable offer of 1500 Hertz points (or $100 refund on our credit card . We paid $1500+ for this unsafe car). This is the same offer I got 8 days ago... and it turns out this guy hadn't even seen my photos and was NOT a supervisor from Customer Relations after all. He told me to keep waiting if I would not accept his offer... We typically rent from Hertz and have been willing to pay more for it when we travel, because we highly value premium service- AND- what we thought/expected was premium attention to car safety. Unsafe car/tires is completely inconsistent with our expectations, and we are extremely upset and disappointed. Why pay premium pricing for substandard service, for a car that has been deemed UNSAFE to drive? We were nervous driving on those roads in what we thought was a safe car- glad we didn't know our car had no tread as we were driving narrow roads at 12,000 feet or we would have freaked out. And I'm totally thankful that we didn't have a blowout and go off a cliff. But the next guy they rent a dangerous car to might not be so lucky.... I took my personal car to be serviced a few days ago back home and showed the mechanic the photos of the tires - his response... "You are lucky to be here". Wow, everyone except Hertz is appalled at the condition of the tires, which, by the way, came from their upgraded Gold Five Star lot. We have 2 upcoming reservations with Hertz which at this point I cannot imagine keeping. It's sad because we have had good experience w Hertz in the past and would like to chalk this up to a dangerous and uncharacteristic mistake at the Denver airport and not the standards of the larger Hertz company. However, we have been waiting 11 days now for Hertz to make this right and are getting nowhere, not the call back I was promised 3 different times. They just don't care. We do not feel they value our safety, our expressed concerns, our time.... and we aren't one bit happy about that. SAFETY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE NEGOTIATED. For all you folks out there looking to rent a car - This is not the place. I was moving and reserved a full-size pick-up (10 days before I needed it). Called 4 days ahead to ensure they would have my reservation. Walked into the lobby to see two staff working on their computers (I was the only customer). 10 minutes later was offered assistance. I was offered a mid-size truck instead of the full-size truck I had reserved and paid in advance for. The mid-size was not going to work for me. I was moving from western NC to Durham and had to do it in one trip - hence the need for a full-size truck. Called customer service and was only offered a refund. I was totally screwed. I had to cancel my reservation, wait 7 days for a refund, and pack as much as I could in my car, leaving behind things that wouldn't fit. I gave 1 start only because you can't give a 0. I rented a car at the last minute since my car had not come back from being repaired that day, hour before I needed it for the evening. I called this office at at and was quoted one price. When I got there at around 4:30 (closes at 5PM, the price went up by double. He wrote that there was a vehicle upgrade ($50)- didn't ask for that. I asked if that was the cheapest car rental they had and he said yes (I wonder if they are rewarded for renting more expensive cars). He asked when I would return it and I said I could return it in the morning, but didn't give an exact time- didn't think it mattered since car rentals are for the day (24hr!) He put in 8AM which I didn't notice until the next morning at 10AM. I called and complained- car rentals are for 24hr!! He said if I got it back by 11AM, he would not charge me more. This is just such a scam. Do not rent from this location or from Hertz for that matter!!!! read more

This was by far the worst customer service experience I've had renting a car. We also had to pay almost $100. for my spouse to be a driver. Enterprise doesn't charge additional fees for a spouse! Pick up was easy and Lauren was extremely efficient and friendly. The ports (2) didn't work in the car, we didn't find that out til 3am when we were leaving for our road trip. We couldn't charge our phones and couldn't use our GPS! We got lost twice. The Hertz in NY was also NO help! 5 days later, We filled the car up with gas 2 blocks away and returned the car. We told them about our inconvenience and showed NO empathy! Then he said he'll waive the gas penalty for our inconvenience! We just filled the car up! It only took $4.40! I work in customer service and would never treated a customer that way! I will definitely go back to using Enterprise from now on! Hertz will NEVER get my money ever again! One would think that with a company getting essentially a blank check from my insurance company they would actually attempt to keep their potential customers happy. I've had very pleasant experiences with this car rental location, which is very close to my house. I often rent for work through them, so I'm usually booking online, then going there to pick it up. I have on occasion called them directly to arrange a rental on short notice, and it hasn't been a problem. I recognize several of the staff members, and they have sometimes given me upgrades at no charge. They also have often been able to get me in a Nissan Altima, which is very similar to my personal car and very comfortable to me. They also are usually willing to give me a ride back to my house, which is about 3 miles away. I don't know if that's a standard offering, but I always appreciate it because it saves me a $10 Uber ride. I'm a Hertz club member, so I expect to continue using this location for work and personal rentals. read more

After a flight cancellation in Raleigh on Saturday September 22nd, in a desperate attempt to make it home in time for work, I booked a flight out of Charlotte on Monday September 24th. On the morning of Sunday September 23rd, I booked a rental car from this location for the following day to travel to Charlotte and received a confirmation message. Upon arrival on Monday morning, I was told that there were no cars, not one single car, available for me to make my flight, regardless of my reservation. I was told that the faulty computer system should never have let me book this vehicle and was told it was my fault for assuming there would be a car available. Again, regardless of the confirmed reservation. I made several calls to surrounding locations, still no cars available. I then found one last car online that was listed as available in Chapel Hill. I booked the reservation, received confirmation, and called an uber to begin to head in that direction. I called that Hertz location on the way to ensure I did not experience a repeat of this situation, only to be told once again that the reservation was invalid and there were no cars available. No one was able to tell me why I was allowed to book a car that was not there. No one made any effort to reconcile this situation. After three hours, I had no way of getting to Charlotte, causing me to miss my flight, and had to scramble to spend $500+ on a new, last minute flight home so that I did not lose out on another full day of pay. read more

The manager looked at the armrest saw a few flecks of beach sand and told me that someone has been smoking in the car; nobody has smoked in the car. I pleaded my case to no avail to get hit with a 300 dollar smoking charge. Two other people were in line with the customer service rep and they too were being harassed. Horrible customer service. The guy told me he wouldn't answer my questions in regards to renting a car that I had already reserved which he would've known if he would've let me speak. My masked had a string broken so the guy said he can't speak to me (as he's speaking to me) unless I wear my mask properly and he will not answer any questions. So I asked him if he had another one that I can borrow so he can "answer my question" and of course he says no. So I step outside the door and call the store looking directly through the window to ask him the questions I needed to ask him standing directly in front of him. His co-worker had more common sense as he helped me minutes before I had walked in. Only to receive different treatment from this other guy who I didn't care to get a name for. Obviously common sense is not common. Felt like the 3min conversation over the phone could've been handled in person instead of being rude. I obviously canceled my reservation and went down the street to ENTERPRISE on hillsborough with way better customer service ...and the same mask lol. Got a way better car and easy simple return. Also ENTERPRISE doesn't do a credit check if you're paying up front with a debit card. For some reason this location does. Overall horrible experience. Your upfront guy obviously lack training in customer service and common sense. Being that he literally made the situation completely unnecessary forcing me to step outside and use the phone to talk to him instead of answering my questions standing in front of him. That's like going in to order food and they tell you hey no...you gotta go outside and call us to order! I am sure they were very busy, so he did not have to go out there and check the car for me. This was literally the worst customer service experience I've ever had with any organization. First I tried calling 45 times to confirm availability of the car I wanted however as I observed once I was there the staff does not answer the phone.I waited an hour and a half to pick up my car despite a reservation and they didn't have the car Class I wanted. I took what was available With the intentions of exchanging it later in the week. Again many times to call Were unsuccessful, although someone did pick up twice and put me on hold only to never return. When I finally spoke to someone, Preston, he not only raised his voice at me but explain that reservations don't guarantee cars will be available and I would just have to settle. He then proceeded to hang the phone up on me while I was speaking. This location Is a blemish for hertz and certainly impacts their reputation. After an abysmal experience at this Hertz location back in the fall, I decided to give them another try, primarily based on an online deal that was too good to pass up. What I found this go-round​ was a complete 180 from the previous rental in Oct-Nov: I got the car that I had reserved, the tank was full and I was impressed by the fast, efficient, friendly service.
